Japanese Calligraphy Experience In Osaka

It was an interesting and creative experience. Ryusho, our teacher was very helpful, respectful and patient. He gave us a short introduction into his art and calligraphy.

I took a class yesterday and was lucky to have a one-on-one lesson with Ryusho-san. He shared an insight into the art through his paintings and videos of his performances, then patiently walked me through creating my very own piece. I was a bit hesitant at first, but his instructions were filled with encouragement and now I have something to fill the empty space above my desk with :). Getting to learn from someone of his caliber in a private setting is something I'll remember for a long time!

It was a wonderful experience! If I come to Osaka again, I would book it again. Also the online-lessons sound very interesting. I will check it out. Thank you very much!

On a rainy afternoon we did a Calligraphy class with a well known and award winning calligraphy artist and teacher - Ryusho Tanabe. He does calligraphy on a large scale with oversized brushes. His art is beautiful. In our class we learned how to do one symbol - mine was Happiness. I highly recommend this activity, we really enjoyed it.

Ryusho is an amazing teacher and very high caliber calligrapher. He made the experience so personalized and really took the time to explain each step while including green tea and sweets. Being able to take home our artwork is a big bonus. Highly recommend Ryusho and this experience!

This Japanese calligraphy experience was outstanding! Tanabe san was an excellent instructor who was incredibly patient and encouraging. He taught basic technique and guided our practice. At the end of the class, every member of my family had a work of art we will be proud to hang upon a wall at home. I highly recommend this experience.

I really enjoyed the experience of learning about Calligraphy as well as trying it out myself. Ryusho Tanabe was very good at helping me improve my skills with each stroke of the brush as well as keeping the atmosphere light and enjoyable.

Ryusho is so talented and such an amazing teacher! I booked this class for my husband and I to do while in Osaka because when I was in elementary school, my school brought in a Japanese calligraphy artist to teach in my art class :) My husband said this was his favorite activity of all that we did while on our 2.5 week honeymoon across Japan!! Ryu welcomed me very warmly. With great patience, he explained to all of us the details of his art, his technique, and the origins of the calligraphy he practices. Our instructor was so pleasant and patient. It is a difficult art form but he made it fun and was genuinely excited for our work. Great family fun that was different than the normal experiences around here.

I had a wonderful time trying calligraphy with a very passionate and knowledgable teacher ! I could practice many times the kanji on Japanese paper before making my final work. The teacher was really helpful and his English is really good ! I would totally recommend this workshop !

It was a really great experience! We loved every minute of it, and you go home with a great souvenir.

We did the calligraphy experience as a mum-daughter activity and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very knowledgable and extremely patient teacher led the way and we managed to create a very nice keep sake to take home.

Incredible experience with the calligraphy course! It was a fascinating introduction to the Japanese writing system, followed by helpful and attentive guidance during the practice session. Both my daughter and I were glad and had a unique experience we would surely continue! Our class was private, so it was just my wife and I. Ryusho was incredibly patient with teaching us both the history of Japanese calligraphy (even after we got a bit lost and showed up later than our scheduled time). You can tell this is his passion! We had a GREAT time observing and then practicing the fine art. We definitely have a new appreciation for calligraphy after his class. P.S. if you’re reading this and have a connection with the LA Dodgers, Ryusho would be honored to perform his art some day at Dodger Stadium, and meet national hero Shohei Ohtani. Ryusho is very humble, but his resume speaks for itself. Let’s make it happen! :)

Today I learned that Japanese calligraphy is fun. Thanks to master Ryusho Tanabe I draw my very own piece of calligraphy. Ryusho San is a wonderful, passionate and patient teacher and he is very dedicated craftsman and performer. His directions helped me improved step by step while emphasizing that this special art combined careful motor control but also acts as a mirror to our mind and soul. I really enjoyed the experience and I believe everyone should consider doing this class at least once in their trip.

It was a wonderful experience to get a deep taste of Japanese culture. Under careful guidance, participants learned about the history of calligraphy and how to use calligraphy tools, practiced a choice of 12 different kanji characters, and completed original works of art. They also enjoyed tea and Japanese sweets and enjoyed traditional Japanese culture. Conveniently located in Shinsaibashi, we were able to concentrate on our work in a relaxed atmosphere. I am very happy that I was able to experience the depth of calligraphy and take home my work as a wonderful memory.

Ryusho is an amazing calligraphy performer and an experienced teacher! First he explained about letters, calligraphy, and tools. Then he taught us how to write one stroke at a time with a brush and we practiced writing. Then he let us choose the kanji we wanted to write. He held the brush with each of us one by one and helped us to write so that the participants could write well. He also gave us frames to display our works at the end of the workshop. I showed off to my familyl and displayed it in my room! It was a very satisfying and fantastic experience. I highly recommend this experience.

I couldn’t wait to discover calligraphy, it’s done. I was lucky enough to have a class where I was alone, Ryusho first introduces us to the art of calligraphy, then asks us to choose a word! We do a few tests and then we can walk away with it! Great experience, I recommend!
