Lots of walking but the tour guide was great! Learned a lot about Osaka and the history of the castle, the city, and Japan!

Nile is a rockstar and made the tour very enjoyable for all with a good mix of history, laughs, and spooky tales. Well priced and group size was small allowing for everyone to ask him questions and understand the stories. Easy meeting location and good timing on length of tour. Beautiful night tour and stroll through the park.

Very enjoyable! The weather was perfect (October) and the views outstanding! Our guide, Nial (I hope I spelled it right) was fun and knowledgeable. It’s a lot of walking but worth the views of the surrounding areas of the castle and learning more of it’s history. It’s probably best for adults and teens with no physical issues (uphill grades, dark areas, and steep steps). My (adult) daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening perspective to compare to our visit during the day. Our only hiccup was finding the meeting place. We started out early but our taxi driver dropped us at the wrong area. Thankfully we walked in and finally met the group about 7 minutes late- no worries- we were happily included by all and acknowledged and had a great time.

Niall knows super much about the history of Japan en Osaka. It was a very informative and amusing tour. He was also flexible; there were only 6 places left, but we were with 7. Contact was easy and he gave a quick response via Whatsapp. Would definitely recommend!

This is an absolutely fascinating and fabulous ghost story tour around Osaka Castle! The guide is incredibly personable and engaging, sharing captivating insights into the castle’s rich history alongside chilling and thrilling ghost stories that truly bring its mysterious past to life. He takes you to haunted places around the castle, telling spine-tingling tales of wandering ghost women, restless spirits of fallen warriors, weeping women, ghostly female monks, horses that supposedly still haunt the grounds, and so much more. This tour was probably the best we have ever been on! Niall was an amazing guide! I wish we would have had many more hours to hear him go into depth about all the history of Osaka Castle. The ghost part was so well done, not hokey or silly at all, a fantastic mix of history and spooky stories. I would say some of the topics could be sensitive for littler ears, so maybe older teens or grownups for this one to get the full effect! Just do yourself a favor and book this tour!

Really good tour, the guide was really friendly and certainly knew what he was talking about. My family enjoyed hearing the ghost stories as well as the castle history. As a fan of the Shogun TV show, it was good to find out the differences and similarities with the real history. I would recommend any day, the tour was also family friendly, but might be a bit scary for younger kids.

The tour was awesome! Your man Niall was a great guide, really knowledgeable about the castle history and Japan in general. There were great places to take photos too, Niall even grabbed a few pics for us. Honestly it was a great tour, we had a good laugh aswell along the way.

This tour was better than we even thought . Niall was absolutely lovely even when we messed up the meeting place. He was very knowledgeable with everything to do with Osaka castle and surrounds. We had a few weared things happen when we were walking around on the tour which was unexpected. 100% recommend doing this tour.

The whole experience was very informative and engaging, my wife said she felt chills and wasn't sure if it was from the area or from the story telling! Our guide was amazing from the get go, the meeting place was ideal and we were guided very naturally to all the best picture spots along the way. I would highly recommend you do this with your time in Osaka, not only do you learn the history you can feel the weight of it around you and get a sense of the lives lived at the castle

Niall met us outside the castle and kicked off the tour with the basic history of Osaka and the area where the castle is located. Then he took us on a guided tour all around the castle grounds, stopping at various locations to talk about history associated with the castle, construction techniques, and both historical legends and spooky experiences both he and members of his tour groups have had! 👻 It was thoroughly entertaining and Niall was a great guide who did an excellent job of answering our questions and catering to our interests. He guided us to serval good locations to take photos and was kind enough to take pictures of our family when we asked. One tip: if Niall recommends using bug spray (which he had on hand for the tour) take him up on the offer! There are plenty of mosquitoes on the ground during summer.

We booked the night tour and Niall shared fascinating historical knowledge while showing us around the castle grounds. He told us about the castle's history, the area around it, and what kind of spooky paranormal sightings occurred. Despite a surprise rain shower, it was super fun and genuinely so interesting. Niall was very knowledgeable and kind, and I can recommend this tour very much!

The Tour around the Osaka Castle was really good. Listening to the Legends and the Folklore, whilest also learning about the history about this beautiful Castle was really interesting. The mixture of facts and everything was really good. Thanks to our Guide I got to learn a lot about the history around Osaka, the Castle and the people of hundreds of years ago! Great experience much better to experience visiting these locations in this way, kept things fun and constantly engaging, tour guide was a lovely bloke really knew his stuff and has clearly been there a while and all of us enjoyed it thoroughly.

This was easily one of my favorite historical tours to date. The tour guide is a pleasure to talk to and is a joy to spend time with. His knowledge and passion for the history and subject matter is palpable and I appreciated it. The "haunted" aspect of the tour isn't overwhelming or gimmicky, but rather the contrary. The guide uses the history of hauntings to further boost the tour of Osaka Castle while including the accounts and locations of spiritual "encounters". As I prefaced, this tour is truly one of the best. I cannot suggest it more.

What an incredible tour! I have wandered parts of the Osaka Castle grounds before, but we were also taken to locations that I hadn’t been to before, and the combination of completely new information and the information and anecdotes that built on the little I did already know made the experience all the more interesting and memorable! I felt like I learned a lot more about the people who resided in and around the castle and their lives and deaths. Each of those places we stopped by now holds much more meaning. I think that many people with varying interests would all find this tour fascinating and worthwhile and I sincerely recommend it to anyone at all interested in the people, culture, and history of Japan. It’s very clear to see that not only did our tour guide, Niall, know a lot of information and background about the castle, the grounds, and the battles and politics and history behind them, as well as the figures that passed through them, but he also has a wealth of other knowledge and information about Japan and its history, including some lesser known folktales and local stories and opinions. This is the kind of information that you can’t get from just reading the plaques around the castle, and it was presented in a much more interesting and compelling way. Also, aside from enjoying the various anecdotes, I really appreciated getting to understand the history of the castle and grounds in chronological order with details about the people, their relationships, the lives they lived, the ways they died, the politics, negotiations, plans, battles, hopes, and stakes, which were all so fascinating and memorable. It really felt like listening to a story! Niall was a wonderful and knowledgeable tour guide, and was very nice and easy to talk to personally as well. He also brought us to some great photo spots that have a unique nighttime view! The tour was around 2 hours long and so worth it! I truly had a marvelous time and would definitely go again in the future! Whether from the eerie or historical standpoints, I highly recommend this tour!

Naill is a knowledgable guide who helped us learn about the history of the castle as well as stories of hauntings. We had a great time and felt we were hanging out with a friend who can tell gripping stories. A must for fans of the Sho-gun series on Hulu because you will hear some of the inspiration for story lines in the series. I’ve recommended Osaka Haunts to friends visiting Osaka and highly recommend him to all.

My husband and I had a great time! Our tour guide, Niall, gave us great background history and relevant dark (ghost) stories while taking us through the quiet and eerie parts of the castle and park grounds (as well as some great photography spots). We were surprised at how empty the place is at night. Very different feeling than if you go during the day time. Really some fascinating stuff. Highly recommend!

We joined the Haunted Osaka Tour because we wanted to learn more about Osaka Castle. To be honest, we were a bit worried beforehand that the ghost aspect of the tour might feel gimmicky, but it turned out to be an incredibly fun and highly informative experience. We were also lucky to be part of a very small group, which made the tour feel extra personal and engaging. Niall truly does an amazing job, you can immediately feel how passionate he is about the stories and the history behind them. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Osaka who wants a different and memorable way to discover the city’s history.

What a wonderful experience! For sure a highlight of my 2026 Japan trip! The guide was super knowledgeable, funny, and respectful. He took us to amazing vantage points of Osaka castle. He was engaging and genuinely fun to be around. If you have the opportunity to go on this tour I would highly reccomend it!

This tour was perfect. Niall, our guide was extremely knowledgeable and we were able to visit and learn more about what made the locations haunted. Without the bustling crowds and with it being in the evening, it made the tour even better and a bit eerie. I’d recommend this tour over visiting inside the castle, which has been rebuilt and houses a museum with no sections showing what it may have looked like in its time. He also made sure we captured images in the most beautiful spots on the grounds.

Tour is well worth it and is great to know the history behind what you’re looking at. Tour guide was spot on as well. Very knowledgeable, friendly and approachable and we felt like he was very easy to get on with. Would highly recommend. (Tour guide also recommended where to go after to get on the drink and his recommendation didn’t disappoint)

This was such a fun experience! Niall (our tour guide) was so knowledgeable and informative. From start to finish we were hooked, learning about some of the history of Osaka Castle and it’s grounds. A fabulously eery evening! Niall was professional and friendly, also answering questions we had along the way. This is a must- book tour. Niall was an amazing and super knowledgeable guide. Properly scary, including taking flashlights into the woods around the castle. I was looking over my shoulder more than once and our imaginations were captured by all the history - bloody and violent though it was. Five stars!

This tour was amazing! I’ve done ghost tours before and I really wanted to do one in Osaka and I’m so glad I booked it. Our guide, Niall, was super knowledgeable about Osaka castle and was incredibly thorough. Osaka castle at night was so beautiful and we had many photo opportunities we wouldn’t have during the day. It was super peaceful and the tone of the tour made it spooky. I think i captured a ghost in my photos which really pleased me! I would definitely book again with this tour company.

We had a great time with Niall! He taught us a lot about the castle and its history. It was a small group so you can get involved and you don’t feel like you are disturbing anyone. We had so much fun that time flew even though it was 2 hours long which is amazing. The vibes were eerie,scary, fun and you’ll learn loads about Osaka history.

The experience we had on Osaka Haunts was better than we could’ve expected. Niall was an interesting tour guide and just generally a nice person to talk to. There was so much we learnt about Japan than I’d have never know if I hadn’t went on this tour. The tour lasts around 2 hours and it was totally worth it- the photo opportunities are stunning (especially on the night tour). If your interested in history or ghost activity I’d definitely recommend Osaka Haunts!

To the person who will read this review to see what the tour is like, you're honestly in for a fantastic experiance. A friend of mine had heard about this tour wanted us to go, and as someone who has been on a few "not the most riveting tours" in the uk, I want to take a moment to express just how impressed I was with this experiance. Niall (the owner of the company and tour guide) clearly know what he's talking about, having done all the research himself. You get taken to some really beautiful locations around Osaka castle (which you would not guess from just walking around has *so* much history and moments of great importance there), the tour was light hearted and actually funny when it needed to be, as well as deeply respectful and serious when that was needed as well (the discussions about the beliefs and experiences of the supernatural was handled really well). My friend and I really enjoyed ourselves on this tour, it was nice to learn so much from a guy that's clearly very passionate about not only Japan as a country, but it's history. You will thank yourself for spending a bit of time with Niall, learning about what helped to make Osaka and this country what it is today (as well as the souls that might still be there), you will find yourself really thinking about that history as well the stories/hauntings well after.

We did the haunted tour today and had a truly great time. Not only did we lear a lot about the history of Osaka Castle, we got to know a little more about the spiritual side of the place. Even if you don’t believe in ghosts, it still is a great tour to do. You won’t just go around and learn about a few spots and some details, you’ll dive into a well researched history of Osaka Castle, which is delivered to you as a coherent story from a true history buff. Absolutely recommend and would do it a second time as well.

Neil combines ghost stories and history really well, so the tour has a great balance. I would describe myself as a skeptic, but even I got really spooked at one point – maybe it was Neil's storytelling or something more eerie after all... My husband and I really enjoyed the tour and can highly recommend it to anyone visiting Osaka.
