This tour was a highlight of our time in Osaka. We definitely went to places that we would not have found ourselves! Oisin was super personable. He provided a lot of information that helped us better understand the city and its food scene. Everything we ate was delicious, and the trip included some surprises. Highly recommend!

Itinerary
Explore this centuries-old neighborhood filled with shops and restaurants. Places and people both old and young, and an assortment of just generally interesting sights abound. We spend about 45 minutes walking around and talking about some of the more noteworthy ones. With our 45-minute cultural endeavor behind us, it’s time for a drink and some food. Depending on the night, the restaurants we go to vary, but you can be sure there will be a variety of dishes to choose from. We’ll also explain the sights and sounds of the typical “tachinomi”, or standing bar-restaurant. We spend about 30 minutes here. Part two of our Tenma walkabout takes us deeper into the restaurants and food markets area. This offers a great chance to see the locals out having a great time, since many of the restaurants are open to the street. This walk is about 15 minutes. We’ll make sure the second food stop has different tastes and a different vibe than the first. We’ll spend about 30 minutes here
After a brief train ride (your fare is included), we arrive at Kyobashi. We think a good Osaka night tour involves more than just one neighborhood! Kyobashi was once the primary gateway when coming from Kyoto, and it still is today, albeit to a less hectic degree. An entertainment district with a different breed of restaurants, our short walk around this area will show you things not found in Tenma, let alone somewhere like Dotonbori. Within about 30 minutes from when we departed restaurant #2 in Tenma, we’ll be heading to our final foodie stop. We hope you’ve still got space, because we’ve got a third restaurant in store for you. Again, different food, different vibe. We’ll spend about 30 minutes here.

Loved experiencing local restaurants, food and drinks off the tourist path. Thank you to our guide Joshua for an awesome tour!
This was a highlight of our trip! We were so happy to be introduced to the areas of Temma and Kyobashi. Loved the vibe and the food. Tommy was our guide and he put together an amazing selection of locations with excellent atmosphere and food. The walk in between was part of the fun, we had great conversation and learned a bit about the customs and culture of the area. Recommended for sure.
Had a great time and saw a lot of new things and tried things I would never had before. Our guide was fantastic and was very knowledgeable about everything
Amazing time with an incredible guide! If you’re in Osaka, please do this tour with Hugo. Highlights and insight into the unique Japanese culture only found in Osaka. Highly recommend!
He once again patiently answered all my questions about living in Japan. Showed us some really interesting eating & drinking spots the locals enjoy. Explained Osaka culture and the differences between the different cities. Another great value tour. Highly recommend.
This was a fantastic tour! Hugo took us to three excellent choice restaurants. Even better, the places we went to and the food dishes he chose and ordered for us were so varied and so interesting that I think over two thirds of the many things we tried were completely new to me and I consider myself well travelled. There were lots of culinary surprises, giving many a raised eyebrow, but as is needed in these food tours, it is best to just get on with tasting and eating, which we all did, and there were just empty plates left at each stop. The dishes were not something I would know to order from a menu or would even have thought to have as either a main course or an appetiser so to get to try so many things in one meal tour was amazing. Hugo was probably the best host and guide that we have had out of our many food tours: informative, friendly, engaging, welcoming and entertaining. Even though two groups had to be combined on the day due to illness of another guide, he handled the ten of us very well. (Of note, Qudos to the tour company who emailed us to apologise for having to have a larger group than the maximum 6 as promised, but also offered full refunds if desired, available up to one hour before the tour start. No one took that option it seems and they were right not to. The group size was fine and we all had a treat.) Lastly - the Wagyu beef optional upgrade, available at the time of buying the tour, was well worth it for us. We were the only two on the tour who did this and I suspect others regretted not buying it. It isn’t cheap, but Wagyu beef isn’t, and the 100g portion size gave each of us 8 large mouth sized chunks to savour. There was more than enough food to eat in the basic tour without the additional Wagyu, but we pre-ordered it because we knew we would be unlikely to go to a steakhouse and have a Wagyu meal another time. The Wagyu steak was so delicious, tender, juicy and tasty that I would recommend it to anyone who eats meat, whether you think you like steak or not. Don’t leave Japan without trying it (and this is a great way to do that) 10/10 for this tour even though I’ve had to rate it 5/5!
This was a wonderful group experience. Kevin our tour guide was very social and informative. Would recommend for newbies and those returning to the city. Thanks you Kevin for such an amazing experience, Marge & Max.
Three tastings with drinks- food was good and different in each place. It’s not really a food centric tour because the tour content is more about Osaka culture and some of it is pretty dark. If you want more of a culture and history experience with food then this might be for you But if you want a more food focused tour this may not be the right one especially with you have teens or younger with you The guide was very knowledgeable and paced himself to the group.
Our Osaka night food tour with Ferdinand from Pinpoint Traveler was an absolute feast, both for our stomachs and our social skills! As a Frenchman, he brought top-tier food wisdom and the effortless charm of a fashionable sophisticate. With just four of us, it felt like a VIP feast. 10/10 would waddle away again!
Our Osaka food tour with Bryan was nothing short of extraordinary. We journeyed through the vibrant neighborhoods of Temma and Kobayashi, where Bryan introduced us to an array of unique tapas-style dishes— which included some very unexpected ingredients! Beyond the food, the tour was an immersive dive into local life. A detour to a nearby supermarket provided a genuine slice of everyday Japanese culture. We also experienced the city’s pulsating subculture while walking past local clubs and bars, offering a deeper understanding of Osaka’s dynamic social scene. In every way, this wasn’t your typical food tour. It was an expertly curated exploration of Osaka’s culinary delights and cultural nuances, making it a standout highlight of our trip to Japan. Highly recommended for anyone eager to experience the authentic and unexpected sides of this incredible city! Thank you Bryan!
This was the worst food tour I have ever done. Way overpriced for what you get. Little food and our guide Damien was more interested in the ladies bars and hotels where locals go for one night stands and where men go when they cannot get with ladies in ladies bar afterwards. I booked this tour for FOOD not the red light district tour of Osaka. It looked like he did not want to be there and kept looking at his watch and rush us. I do NOT recommend this tour if you want to to know more about food of Osaka.
Wonderful guide on this food tour. Great experience. Fascinating Japnese night culture. The food was delicious.
We have friends in NYC who recommended this tour. Were they right!! We opted for being picked up at and delivered back to our hotel. It is great that you offer this service for an added fee. We had been in Osaka but a few hours and did not know our way around. Kevin met us and escorted us to the meet up place. Everyone was prompt. We are old enough to be the parents of the other 5 guests. They were wonderful, smart and curious. That was really fun for us and I hope it was OK for them, too. It was an international albeit English-speaking group from the US, Germany and Ireland. Kevin explained a whole lot more than food. He is so intelligent and well- informed. He is a native of Los Angeles and a multi-year resident of Osaka. We saw and learned things we never would have on our own. He is a great guide. He had a well-planned route and pivoted smoothly when one restaurant lacked space. There were three drinks per person allotted but I stuck to water. The number of plates - tapas-style - was astounding. He accommodated pescatarians and vegetarians with no trouble. He even was kind enough to include an Osaka specialty I really wanted to try because I had less than 24-hours in town: okonomiyaki. It was delicious! I wish I had known of your other tours in other Japanese cities in time to take them.
The tour was amazing! Our guide was Ferdinand, he made a terrific job taking us to local restaurants I would’ve never visited on my own. I had so much fun. 🤩 Thank you Ferdinand, it was a great experience.
I would highly recommend this tour. It combines sightseeing, cultural facts, and great food and drinks. Bryan was an excellent tour guide. He was engaging, informative and very friendly.
This is a great way to guarantee a quality foodie experience in Osaka in a small group 3 or 4 quality spots with different concepts and food. Levy the guide was right on the money and knew his stuff and with a good dry sense of humor. It is hassle free and should one wish to have an extra sake or beer it is well managed..... pay the extra drink and move on to the next stop. We all had a great night !!!
This is without doubt a great way to experience the best Osaka has to offer from a foodies angle. a good overall view and 3 well selected and different options to sample the delicacies in Osaka. The guide Levy was verk knowlegdable and pleasent making the tour relaxed and fun for all. The quality of the food was great , nice tables , vip treatment - well worth it .... we would do this trip again
Alejandro was a knowledgeable and interesting guide for our Osaka Food-n-Fun tour. The food and drinks (beer, saki, soda) were delicious and plentiful. Alejandro shared interesting tidbits of information that were enlightening as well as entertaining—surely info not to be found in a guidebook!
This was a fantastic tour and made more enjoyable by our tour guide, Alejandro. You will see some traditional Osaka eating and drinking spots on this tour. Definitely worth the time and money. I highly recommend it
Brilliant tour. Ferdinand knows what he’s about. A great mix of culture and food. We were a small group and we were truly stuffed by the end. I enjoyed the banter and the walk. Thanks. Note: this is not a gourmet food tour, it’s a bit of everything and it’s local.
Our guide, Kevin, was extremely informative, giving us real insight into the true culture, infusing his insight and tips with humor and fun. This tour and our guide Kevin really enhanced our fun and knowledge of Osaka. I highly recommend this to all!
Great experience! The group was a great size - 6 people in total plus our guide - so it made for relatively easy flowing conversation as we traveled to our various stops over the course of the evening. The guide was knowledgeable and we got to eat a lot of interesting (and tasty!) items that I never would have found on my own.
Our guide (Brian) was fantastic! Knowledgeable, very funny, great with our young teens and did everything to make sure everyone had a nice experience. Highly recommend this tour - especially for a short visit to Osaka.
I was looking for a tour that didn't go through the usual touristy areas like Dotonburi and this tour with Alejandro was perfect. We got to explore a few standing izakayas around Tenma, eating as the locals do.
Our tour guide, originally from Paris, was very knowlegable and interesting. We had a fun evening learning about the Osaka custom and culture.
We had a blast during this food tour with our guide Joshua. We toured the Tenma and Kyobashi neighbourhoods and we learned about Osaka’s culture along the way. We ate at 3 different restaurants : small restaurant in a bustling alley, standing bar, izakaya style restaurant. We shared plates of amazing dishes and had lots to sample from (kushi katsu, sashimi, seafood, meats…). We got drinks at each spot (non-alcoholic was an option). We had a fabulous time and would recommend +++
Our guide to was great. It was also a great walking tour of the back streets. He also gave us interesting points about Osaka culture.
Our excellently knowledgeable, super friendly and fun guide Lito made this tour so great. We ate so many delicious things we wouldn't have tried otherwise and were so pleased to experience the Temma area with expert guidance.
My husband, in-laws and I had a great night out with Lito. He was a lot of fun, and answered all our random questions about Osaka. A really great intro to the city, with some fantastic food along the way.
Amazing tour - Amazing guide Ferdinand - Amazing food. Best thing you can do is book this! You come away with a full belly, new friends and new experiences. Small group - perfect size to fit in local food places, great background information.
The local flavor and knowledge . A unique approach to an introduction to a bit of the food scene. It was nice to be with a group of interested folks with similar motivations.
Fantastic time exploring the streets of Osaka with Kevin. Kevin was great with our kids (teenagers) talking about local culture, food and people and we explored some great local spots we would have never found or had the courage to walk in as tourists in a big city. Thanks Kevin!!
This was a fantastic tour. The food was excellent, and Ferdinand was an awesome tour guide. We a great insight into life in Japan, some history along with trying some really delicious food.
We had an amazing time. Ferdinand was super passionate about Osaka. Truly felt like we had an authentic experience. The food was amazing. I would highly recommend this tour.
Ferdinand did an excellent job of mixing local history, cultural and culinary aspects to the food tour. There was a wide variety of food to try and we were all full of food and drinks by the end. He asked if there were any food aversions which we all denied but realized that things like horse and whale aren’t really even considered food options in North America. We would highly recommend this tour of Temma and Kyobashi as these areas are unique and should not be missed.
We didn’t enjoy this tour. We weren’t expecting eating strange and unusual food. Somethings we found disgusting
Loved the streets and off the track small cafes we visited. Levy is a wonderful guide with huge knowledge and sparking sense of humour. Can highly recommend this tour folka
Had a brilliant night and learnt a lot about the local area and also about japan as a whole, the food was amazing, the sake was out of this world and our guide was brilliant, I would definitely recommend the tour!
Our tour guide was great. However for a food tour the food was not great. We had three stops. At number one the sashimi was very good, but the fried food was just OK. The second stop was better food but nothing amazing. We couldn't get into the third place so went to a standing servery and the food was like cheap takeaway. For the price we paid I would have preferred to go to a good restaurant. Maybe the tour was more about the experience than the food.
Fantastic tour-- Bryan was a great guide. I've been traveling around Japan for about a month, and the food we got still shocked me, it was great.
Our guide, Ferdinand, was outstanding. He took us to fantastic places to eat and provided us with local color. We truly got a well-rounded exposure to the food of Osaka. The pace of the tour was perfect and we enjoyed every minute of our experinece.
My husband and I had an amazing experience on this tour! Joshua was an incredible tour guide and was very accommodating to my shellfish allergy. We learned so much about the food, culture, and attitudes of Osaka, and Joshua took the time to give us even more places to go and advice for our next days of our time in Japan. We highly recommend this tour with Joshua!
Matthew was a fun knowledgeable host, took us to lots of different places to try food. We had an awesome time and would recommend him
Small group of just 4 people made it easy to traverse the trail through Temma with our guide Damien. So much fun dining in little stand up cafes that I’d be too intimidated to enter without a Japanese speaking g guide. Tried so many new and exotic dishes. Also loved our visit to a big supermarket to see all of the exotic fresh ingredients available for meal prep and be taught what each was. What fun hearing about Osaka and it’s vibe which is very different from other Japanese cities. Highly recommend for adventurous palates!
The food was great and the guide was very helpful. But the tour was not what I expected and much longer too.
Took us to local spots that we never would have discovered! We learned a lot about food, Osaka, and Japan in general. Best thing we did in Osaka.
Damian was a very knowledgeable guide who taught us all about local cooking and we tried a number of new (and surprising) dishes and locals only spots. Glad we got to learn more about the local Japanese culture and see a side of Osaka we wouldn’t have otherwise seen!
We had a great time on the Isaka food tour with Matthew. He was very knowledgeable and funny. He made wonderful food selections for a wide variety of food tastings at truly local establishments. Highly recommend.
This your with Mathew was great. He really had a passion for what he was showing us and giving us to eat. Showed us how the locals do it and all in all was a great guide!
