Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion)is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. A breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its dazzling golden exterior and serene gardens. The name Golden Pavilion is derived from the gold leaf that the pavilion is covered in. The gold employed was intended to mitigate and purify any pollution or negative thoughts and feelings toward death. The Golden Pavilion is a three-story building on the grounds of the Rokuon-ji temple complex. Each floor has a different architectural style. The pavilion successfully incorporates three distinct styles of architecture, which are shinden, samurai, and zen.
There are around 30,000 Inari shrines in Japan, Fushimi Inari Taisha is the head shrine, to worship the Shinto god of rice, Inari. The shrine is renowned for Senbon Torii, thousands of vermilion red torii gates, which create a stunning and immersive tunnel-like pathway up the sacred Mount Inari. In the 1300 years since its establishment in 711AD, people have gathered here to pray for bountiful harvests, business prosperity, the safety of their home and family, and the fulfillment of all other wishes.
Nijo-jo Castle was built in 1603 as the Kyoto residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo Period (1603-1868). It is one of the best-known castles in Japan, its palace buildings are arguably the best surviving examples of castle palace architecture of Japan's feudal era, and the castle was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Nijo-jo Castle can be divided into three areas: the Honmaru (main circle of defense), the Ninomaru (secondary circle of defense), and some gardens around them. The entire castle grounds and the Honmaru are surrounded by stone walls and moats. The admission ticket for Nijo Castle, which includes access to the Ninomaru-goten Palace, costs 1,300 yen. Please ensure you have the appropriate cash for entry. Thank you. ( During the days when Nijo Castle was closed, visit Heian Jingu Shrine instead. This Shinto shrine is located in Sakyō-ku, Kyoto, and is recognized as an important cultural property of Japan. )
The bamboo forests of Arashiyama are a must-see when visiting Kyoto, serving as a symbol of the city. This stunning and serene natural attraction is known for its towering bamboo stalks and tranquil ambiance. Walking along the peaceful paths surrounded by lush greenery will help put your mind at ease. You can truly feel time slow down as you take in the beauty of nature. The groves are especially captivating when a light breeze dances through, causing the tall bamboo stalks to sway gently back and forth.
Nonomiya Shrine is a Shinto shrine in the Arashiyama district on the west side of the city of Kyoto. Unlike most shrines that feature iconic vermilion torii gates, Nonomiya Shrine has a distinctive black torii gate known as a kuroki torii. Despite its small size, the shrine has a lengthy history, founded in antiquity as a purification shrine for imperial princesses who were appointed as priestesses for Ise Shrine. Nonomiya Shrine has a reputation for helping and interceding on behalf of women, and many parishioners are women who want to find love or wish for children and a safe childbirth. Many of the omamori on sale at the shrine reflect the theme of women’s happiness, and you can find a variety of amulets available at the shrine office.
The Togetsukyo Bridge is the most iconic landmark in Arashiyama. Originally built during the Heian Period (794-1185), it was reconstructed most recently in the 1930s. This famous bridge spans the Katsura River and provides picturesque views of the surrounding mountains and riverscape.
The Kimono Forest is a distinctive textile art installation made up of 600 clear acrylic cylinders, each standing 2 meters tall. These pillars are adorned with vibrant kimono fabrics featuring a range of designs, from elegant floral patterns to geometric shapes and traditional Japanese symbols. The installation showcases 32 traditional Kyo-yuzen designs. The Kimono Forest is a must-see attraction that provides a unique and enchanting perspective on traditional Japanese textiles and craftsmanship.

Great tour covering the most beautiful landmarks in Kyoto. Our guide, Jack as wonderful. Very personable and informative.
Great experience. Nicely guided tour. Well organised and the guide was so friendly and cooperative. Enjoyed it.
It was a great experience, we had time to understand the history as well as time to walk around to explore the surrounding places
The visita at the temples and other sites are not guided. The Guide was not well presented and his english was hard to understand.
That you will visit many special and historic places in Kyoto. We visited temples, shrines, bamboo forest, beautiful rivers and bridge and my favorite golden temple! Chris our tour guy went beyond to help my husband and I to locate the tour bus. He also took care of me when I wasn’t feeling good. He made the tour fun and informative.
Make sure you check your What’s app so the leader can keep in touch with you. We had a lovely day seeing the most popular attractions in Kyoto.
Well organised tour and tour guide Mr Chan was very helpful and very good with his Japanese history.
Entry fees are not included. Larger group than expected. Full day with massive crowds. Anson was a great guide full of knowledge. I liked that when we arrived at some destinations Anson would explain where to go and then let you explore on your own.
The day trip to Kyoto was awesome. Kyoto is a beautiful place and our tour guide Anson was great! Wow!
Expect 20k plus steps, interesting tour, guide (Chris) was excellent had a lot of interesting information and knowledge about the sites. Very friendly. Chris serenaded is with ‘my way’ from Frank Sinatra and he was quite good. With all we saw it would have taken us 3 days on out own to do what we did in 8 hours from Kyoto. Well organized. Highly recommend. Ask for Chris. He clearly enjoys his job.
Anson was a fantastic tour guide. He took us to four great stops and gave up plenty of time to explore on our own. He was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He also communicated well and kept everyone on time.
Chris, our guide was very helpful and good at his job. Explained a lot of the attractions, which we wanted to. Suggested very very much!
The tour itinerary was very well planned out. The instructions were clear and I felt like it was a good combination of guided tour and time to explore on your own. Chris was an exceptional tour guide. Very personable, funny and considerate of everyone’s different abilities. He was also a wonderful photographer! I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone’s first trip to Kyoto.
A quick paced tour with a tonne of walking but not the kind of tour where u spend more time in the bus and have to run through all the activities. We managed to see all the sights with a bit of time to spare in each stop. Our guide Laura was awesome. She gave us a good amount of information about the various places before we got off the bus and further explained the importance of each place at the castle, the temple and the bamboo forest. The castle was classy, the temple was picturesque. The bamboo forest was serene while the Fushimi inari was vibrant. Laura helped us take a lot of pictures at the right spots. She was overall very helpful and knowledgeable. She did a great job and we had a great time.
Tour was excellent! Sites we visited really highlighted the rich history of Japan and the area. The tour guide Anton was a local and shared what information that we would rarely get with other guides. He made sure everyone understood and was on time. Most enjoyed the Golden Palace and grounds. My only reason for a 4 rating is the bus itself. It was older and lacked tables, electric outlets, etc. other than that, great tour!
Excellent tour! Guide was fantastic! Visited lots of different places and was able to see different side of Japan! Our guide made the tour a very personalised experience.
Anson was very informative and helpful. He was great with my 5 year old. The tour was great, we had lots of fun
Guide gave introduction to the varied excursion and general info on the coach between sights. At the sights she pointed us in the right direction and gave some advice how to make the best of the visit. No detailed commentary of historical facts that we’ll never remember! Guide Scarlett very engaging and full of fun.
Theodore was a wonderful guide. He was very informative, knowledgable and friendly. Transportation in the air conditioned bus was great as it helped with the heat and humidity. Definitely recommend Theodore as a tour guide.
Good day out. Action packed sight seeing getting in the locations. Professionally run day from Theo making the day enjoyable and informative. Recommended.
Anson was a great tour guide. He provided just enough information during the tour to ensure we knew the history and evolution of the areas visited on the tour. He was quite personable and always made sure we were happy and comfortable during the day.
We had an absolutely wonderful day with the group and with our tour guide Chris. He was fun, informative and just a kind person. I would highly recommend booking a tour like this to better understand the culture. I learned so much at Nijo Castle where Chris was answering all of our questions and really painting the picture of the historical times.
Jack was AMAZING!!! He is friendly and explained everything clearly. He was very patient with our entire group
Anson was a brilliant guide, able to show us a number of key cultural highlights of Osaka. His knowledge was excellent and very enthusiastic, ensuring all guests were engaged. Thanks Anson
the best trip ever, its really worth it. It hit all the Best of Kyoto and its history. I highly recommended it
This was an excellent tour with our guide Chris. Chris was very knowledgeable about the areas we visited and took great care of us all. He was also a fantastic photographer! 😊 There is quite a bit of walking, but there was still a good amount of time at each stop and you have the option to do as much or as little as you like. We would highly recommend this tour.
We had a nice experience with our Kyoto tour guide Cali. She was friendly, patient, and especially kind to our kids. We were about five minutes late for the meeting point, and she kindly waited for us. She also surprised our kids with small souvenirs, which was a thoughtful touch. Thank you for helping make our family’s Kyoto trip enjoyable!
The guide Cris is Very helpful and take care of customers. Very good trip Driver very good Guide explain things very well
We had an amazing experience of Kyoto highlights tour despite the sweltering summer heat. Our tour guide Scarlett was so fun to be with, she’s very knowledgeable and fluent in different languages as well.
Chris was a great tour guide - friendly, knowledgeable and very organized. We had a wonderful day out in Kyoto and saw all the sights in a way that felt both efficient and in-depth. And most of all, Chris took the time to take photos of each person on the tour at all of the most scenic parts of each location. Highly recommend!
Chris, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the sites, history, and provided helpful context, all the sites were amazing to see. The staff was also very friendly and accommodating. I had a good time.
We found the instructions to find the tour guide very confusing and nearly missed the trip!! However once we found Frederick (or he found us) it was an amazing experience with just the correct amount of time at each place. It was a very hot day when we went so Frederick made sure the coach was there early so it was cool when we got onboard. Would highly recommend
Nice tour. Anson is a great guide- very organized and gives very clear instructions. We saw a lot of nice places. I am very happy with the tour
Anson was excellent. Very knowledgeable and explained things well. He deserves 5 stars. . However, the tour itself was too long. We didn’t need all that time at the shrines. All It did was make people tired in the heat.
This experience is an opportunity to know some of the most important historical places to see in Kyoto. Our tour guide was Jack and he was friendly, professional and punctual. Thank you!!
Even though it rained the whole day the attractions were fabulous and the Tour guide was superb. Knew so much information about the attractions and Japan. Spoke very clearly and his English was amazing.
This bus tour stood out to me compared to the others. Our tour guide, Lee, was excellent at managing a large group while keeping everyone engaged. He created a WhatsApp group for all participants and provided clear instructions, updates, and Google Maps links throughout the day, which made everything very easy to follow. As we traveled between destinations, Lee shared the history and background of each site before we arrived, giving us valuable context and helping us appreciate what we were seeing. We visited Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Temple), Arashiyama, and Fushimi Inari Shrine. His explanations brought each location to life, and his humor and storytelling kept the journey entertaining from start to finish. The tour was very well organized, allowing plenty of free time to explore each attraction while still benefiting from Lee's guidance and local knowledge. Exploring Kyoto was easy, informative, and enjoyable with him leading the way. I highly recommend Mr. Lee to anyone looking for a memorable and well-organized tour experience in Kyoto. Pro tip you can leave the last site early and catch a train back and reach your hotel by 445.
FANTASTIC tour of the main attractions of Kyoto! The entire day was well executed at a relaxed pace. We boarded the bus thinking it was going to be a miss of an excursion because of the incessant rain but it turned out to be the HIGHLIGHT of our Japan trip! The rain was there throughout but there were less crowds and the scenery was beautiful! But our wonderful guide Chris was the miracle worker here!! We cannot recommend him enough!! From the onset Chris had made a good plan to communicate with all of us on the tour via a WhatsApp group. He reached out before the tour started and made us all at ease as to where and how to locate him outside of the busy Tokyo Central Station. He was so chill and kind …. We didn’t bring any cash with us and he lent us some until we could withdraw money at the convenience store on route. That was the first indicator of a kind and good person who would guide us through the day with fun jokes and anecdotes . It felt like we were touring with a family member because he took his responsibility personally instead of as a job. He treated everyone with respect and patience while accommodating individual requests at lunch and for bathroom breaks. He always consulted with our group before making an executive decision on time spent at the different sites . We actually all got emotional saying goodbye at the end of the day because Chris and all of us had bonded! Thanks for making a truly great trip in Kyoto for all of us Chris!
Anson was an awesome tour guide. He knows a lot of history and facts and really took the time to share his knowledge to us. Lots of trivia. He is really friendly and energetic. Great tour guide and gave us plenty of time to explore everything.

Tour guide Lee was very humourous and helpful. Great communicator as well! Would highly recommend! Covers all the important sites so you don't feel like you're missing out on anything major!
I rate our experience 5 out of 5. It’s was well organised throughout because instructions were in simple English and very well understood. We hardly raised any questions throughout the tour and was never at a lost regarding where to meet or which direction to proceed in the tour.
Fabulous day despite the heavy rain. We were able to see 3 of the 4 areas. It sadly drained way too heavy to see the bamboo forest and kimono forest. Our guide Anson was extremely helpful, informative and fun
The tour conveniently starts with first pickup in Osaka (7:30am) and second pickup in Kyoto (9:00am). Kyoto is also easily accessible by train from Osaka for a reasonable cost. There are several good restaurants around the Kyoto station where one can have dinner after the tour. Drop off is in reverse order making for a very long day for those starting in Osaka. Our tour guide Chris was very knowledgeable and showed great care for the members of the group (about 25 people). During transit, he explained the various sites along with related stories. The mood within the group was very good throughout a long day even with soaring temperatures during a heatwave. The only negative is that the Tour Company Viator did not include admissions for two of the sites and the tour members needed to reimburse the guide for the admission fees in cash. This made things a bit awkward as some did not have cash on hand and had to scramble to find an ATM. To his credit, the tour guide helped with that as well. Chris is a very kind and caring person who prioritized a good trip for everyone.
Our guide Javkson was very good. The tour was good but it was a rainy day, so the bamboo garden, and the last stop we could not enjoy much. Good tour, good guide, if you have one day it will cover the best attractions of Kyoto.
The trip was very informative. Pickup was convenient and guide was courteous and knowledgeable. The sights we visited were amazing. I definitely recommend this trip to those visiting Kyoto. Congratulations to the organizers.
Great day with the tour bus. The guide was knowledgeable, the driver was safe, and they give you plenty of time to roam free which is ideal for large groups. Communication was clear and meet times and locations, with location pin drops, were always available in the group chat in case you forget (or are directionally challenged like me). Highly recommend!
Good organization with plenty of time at each stop. It's a really good way to get between several major destinations that aren't very close to each other. The guide was not super informative, though - it would have been really nice to learn more about the significance and history of what we were seeing. The focus was much more on logistics.
Great historical value. Excellent time of the year, not too cold and not too warm. Great exercise. Will come back again to visit Kyoto. Our guide was very knowledgeable with all the places seen.
