We did a food tour in Osaka with Kevin from Arigato Japan Food Tours and really enjoyed it. Kevin is a knowledgeable guide (originally from Kent in England) and gave us loads of information about the local food and culture. He also had some funny stories and ditties about Osaka's history and nightlife that made the evening even more enjoyable. Would definitely recommend.

Itinerary
Starting on the the bright and busy Doutonburi area we will learn about Glico man, a Filipino sprinter named Fortunato Catalon who inspired a nation and a company!
Similar to Shibuya (its counterpart in Tokyo) the lights and sounds of Dotounburi often lead you astray to overly-commercialised restaurants with queues of tourists outside. We want to take our guests to places they would certainly miss without a local's guidance. We will take secret alleys, not long after we begin the tour, toward the shrine wedged out of sight from the average passerby.
Enjoy Osaka's famous street food on this 3-hour food tour

Fantastic time and great food!
We had a really fun time on the tour and not only did we get to try many different delicacies and popular snacks, Aiden took us to a local shrine and Tower Knives which was excellent. The tour was about 3-4 hours and was great for an evening.
We had a great time with our guide Justin. He took our foodpreferences into consideration and adapted the tour accordingly. He showed us some great spots we would never have found without him and also took the time to give some information about non-foodrelated places we passed. Would very much recomment!
We shared a wonderful evening with Kurt in Osaka. We were lucky to have him all to ourselves and enjoyed getting to know him and benefit from his local knowledge of the district - we got off the main drag and into some less touristy areas. Great food, great drink and great conversation as well as sightseeing in a 4 hour tour of Dotonbori - wouldn't change a thing! Thanks, Kurt!
We had a great night out with our Guide Akiko who not only showed us great food to eat, but gave us valuable tips for eating in Japan. We spent our time around the vibrant Dotonburi area of Osaka
We had an amazing experience! We did the Osaka food tour on our last night in Japan and it was the best ending to our trip! Ken and Rio were both amazing and extremely knowledgeable about the food and culture. We visited two spots for appetizers and then one for the main meal. It was so much food we were so full by the end of it! We then went to get traditional deserts and it absolutely hit the spot. Could not recommend this tour more to anyone who wants an amazing tour of Osaka and amazing food. Thank you Ken and Rio for an unforgettable last day in Japan!
This was not a real street food experience. Instead we visited a few low end restaurants with low quality food. Food value i estimate to be 20 euros on this a 200 euros trip per person. This is basically cheating people. I recommend strongly to avoid this trip.
The tour was excellent and just what we were looking for as a food tour and taster for Osaka generally. We had a fun evening in the heart of the city, with plenty of variety food-wise. Tomo was an engaging and knowledgeable guide. We highly recommend this tour.
The Tour with our guide Miyuki was phantastic.
Fantastic guide! Highly recommend.
I was met by Jahmelah from Arigato Travel and did the Nightlife Osaka Street Food Private Evening Tour. It was fantastic. I loved every minute of the 3-4 hour tour of street food and night life. The food was delicious, fresh and interesting. The nightlife was fun and so educational about Japan! I highly recommend!
Really enjoyed our tour with Matt O as a way to get familiar with the area and try out a number of new foods. The Taiyaki and Kushi Katsu were definitely highlights. Matt was very helpful with recommendations and historical information.
We were taken on the Osaka food tour by, Sebastian, he was very knowledgeable, entertaining and friendly, we enjoyed the experience very much.
This tour was a blast. Melissa was a great guide and showed us some amazing spots and food. She made sure we were having fun, asked about our tastes, and helped take photos. It was a great time.
We had a wonderful Osaka foodie tour with our informative guide Natsumi. She showed us various little known points of interest along the way. Natsumisan knew her away around to delicious food. She was very patient and calm when she waited in a line to get our dessert from an outdoor vendor too. Sorry we took so long to write review. We misplaced the business card and the email must have gone to our spam folder. Gomennasai! In any event, you will enjoy this tour!
We had an amazing time with our guide, Lee, who was very knowledgeable and fun about the area we toured and led us on a delicious food tour. We ended up very full and satisfied. A "must do" foodie tour in Osaka
We had a great vegetarian food with Miyuki in Osaka. We loved the places that she took us to, especially the first one. It was fantastic and she was very knowledgeable.
The tour was excellent. We sampled all different kinds of Japanese food and drink. Kevin our guide was great. He is originally from England and is fluent in Japanese. He was very knowledgeable and took us to an amazing local sushi restaurant. I would highly recommend this tour.
We had booked through Dial a Flight/Inside Japan. First class tour and given the circumstances that it was a Japanese national holiday weekend, our guide, Miyuki, certainly knew her stuff (and food). She managed to avoid most of the crowds and we eat in interesting venues. The best of which was the Japanese "Skewer" restaurant. Apart from the eating, Miyuki, gave us explanations of the sights we walked past. All in all we had a good time in Osaka, thanks to our guide.
Melissa was great!! Very personable not just a tour guide, very kind very interesting! Amazing tour guide and person!
We had a great time with Miyuki as our guide for the tour. She was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and had all sorts of insights into Osaka's culture and cuisine. The places we stopped for food were all very enjoyable and were local dishes.
This is a must-do when you visit Osaka! Melissa is so knowledgeable & fun. She introduced us to new foods, Osaka specialties, and tailored it to my husband’s gluten-free requirements. Such a great way to start our time in this town.
EK and Kurt were fantastic guides, taking the group to laneways, and great eateries. Along the way they explained the history of the Dotonbori area.
Matt was so friendly and fun and a great tour guide. My daughter and I enjoyed each restaurant and walking around the city and learning about the culture!
Even thought this was in a super busy area, the route picked by Melissa avoided the crowds and allowed us to get to know the little alleys and hidden gems in busy Dotonbori. As someone who’s been to Osaka many times before, this tour changed my perspective on a lot of things about the city and the touristy areas. Im grateful for Melissa for guiding us with so much passion and joy. It was memorable! Thank you!
It was fantastic. First time in japan and honestly, the food we ate I really liked. Diante was very friendly and taught me somethings I didnt know about Japan. The small guided tour and expliation of the running man was a nice touch. I felt like it was great experince, and I would do it again.
What an amazing experience! Our guide Kentaro was passionate about Japanese cuisine. He was highly engaging and very thorough in his explanations of Japanese food and culture.
We heard that Osaka was the food capital of Japan, and it did not disappoint on the tour led by our guide Asli. She led us through the area around the Dotonbori to four different restaurants that offered different styles of food for which Osaka is known. Asli also showed us the famed view of the neon signs, including the Gilco Running Man, from the Ebisu Bridge. While walking through the Chuo Ward, she explained the different types of restaurant signs and how to decode what they mean. This was a great and easy way to dive into Osaka on our first day.
Great evening with Natsumi sampling typical Osakan food. She was really knowledgeable and picked super places to eat. She spoke excellent English and we enjoyed our conversations with her over the evening. We had a great time. Thank you
Best food tour I've been with Jane she is best. She was very informative and personable. Thr food she had us try was amazing
My husband and I had the best food tour with our guide Ron. He took us to so many places we would’ve never gone to on our own, and all the food was delicious. Having a guided experience made Dotonbori less overwhelming and ensured we got good food and not touristy stuff. Also, it felt more like hanging with a local friend on a night out vs a tour. Ron was so easy to chat with, answered all of our questions, and gave us so much insight into Japanese culture. We can’t say enough good things about him and are recommending his tour to all of our friends.
Tonight we had a street food tour of Dotonbori. This is the classic neon light, street food and entertainment area. Our guide Sebastian an English speaking fun, warm, and informative guide who introduced us to friendly and foodie spots off the beaten track while helping us understand Osaka through it’s history. . We started out with the octopus balls, better than you could imagine with different sauces followed by breadcrumb everything-pork, shishitos, shiitake, beef, cheese, ginger, then onto stay a while bar where you drink & eat. We had a little of all the rest of Osaka’s specialties , special delicious noodles, dumplings, sliced pork in an omelette, plus tuna rolls, edamame and sake runneth over. Of course we finished with desert a fruit rice ball. Excellent food intro to Osaka. Thank you
Melissa was an excellent guide! We learned a lot about Osaka, its history, culture, and food! We recommend booking with Melissa!!!
Our day trip with Myuka was amazing - away from crowds and in the Old town of Osaka. Seeing local areas and experiencing where the locals eat and buy their produce was memorable. The food and restaurants were very different to our other Japanese experiences which we loved. We loved the 85 yr old still making special pancakes.
Great evening with Matt, very knowledgeable and a good host. We shared the tour with another couple, and enjoyed an evening of excellent food together.
Thank you for a guided culinary and walking experience that introduced myself to the history and traditions of Japan through its local cuisine. I had a lovely evening tasting the different types of Japanese local food at popular restaurants and street food stalls. We were a small group of 6 people who shared a passion for food. The tour guide Ike was an expert on local cuisine and entertained us by incorporating stories and local insights as we went along.
We had the most enjoyable experience with Ken on our food walking tour in Osaka along with another couple from the UK. He had a great sense of humor and treated us like we were all old friends. The different food options were great and they were definitely choices that none of us ever had before.
I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Our guide Russ was knowledgeable, entertaining and enthusiastic. We learnt about and ate some extremely delicious local food. We went back to our hotel feeling full and happy.
We had an excellent time, tried lots of different Japanese food we wouldn’t have done otherwise and went to some great restaurants. Melissa was good fun and very informative. We highly recommend this tour.
Such a fun night! Perfect way to spend the evening eating and walking our way through Ōsaka. Our guide Melissa was fantastic, she made sure we enjoyed our night, highly recommend ❤️
Our guide Ike led an amazing tour of Osaka. He took us places we never would have found on our own, sharing his vast knowledge of the region and food traditions along the way. Highly recommended!
If you’re visiting Osaka and love food, this walking tour with Melissa is an absolute must! From start to finish, it was an incredible experience that gave us a true taste of the city—literally and culturally. Highly, highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to go beyond the tourist traps and dive into the heart of Osaka’s food culture. Thank you, Melissa, for such a memorable evening
Really excellent experience with a very good tour guide, Mickey. She went out of her way to make everything great for us. Not only did we eat delicious food along the way but we got a brilliant insiders view of the city and some corners which we simply would not have found ourselves. Highly recommend it.
We spent one day in Osaka, and ended with the food tour. Very good tour, with lots of interesting stops, including a knife store, and a Shinto shrine, as well as fun food. We were three people, ages 78, 82, and 20. We all enjoyed it.
Never been on a food tour before so did not know what to expect, but our tour guide was very friendly and knew where to go to get the best and different types of Japanese food. Will definitely try more food tours on our future trips, thank you Arigato.
This was such a fun experience! We met Akiko in an iconic part of Osaka, learned all about the history, and were able to sample some unique foods! She also took us to a couple of game establishments and a cool knife store. Well worth the time. The food was plentiful, and there was something for everyone. She also asked our preferences--for instance,"were we adventurous eaters?" Had a great time and highly recommend!
Our last night in Osaka we had a food tour with Kevin. I did not expect much because I thought we were going to go to the food stalls. Not so! Kevin took us to 4 different off the beaten path places to dine. We had everything from takoyaki to sushi and many other dishes topped off with taiyaki, fish shaped cakes. Kevin was fun and very knowledgeable. We had a memorable time. Take this tour!
Everything perfect. A real nice trip with Yvette in Osaka. We had a lot of fun and a nice experience! Thank you for all! Wolfgang
Had a great evening exploring some restaurants with our guide, Mio. She brought good vibes to the tour and we enjoyed chatting whilst wandering the streets checking out the sights and trying some great food. Gave us an awesome recommendation for a brilliant backstreet curry restaurant too, which ended up being a great end to our time in Osaka the next evening. We also tried a couple drinks I might not have otherwise experienced, and continued ordering later into my trip. I was wondering what to expect with the food after checking a few of the lower star reviews, but if anyone is left wanting more to eat, that definitely isn't on the tour operator lol. We were all thoroughly stuffed full of delicious food and couldn't possibly have eaten any more.
