Edit: While the hotel did move us to another room with a different type of bed, the room was unfortunately a downgrade, a much smaller room and the request for 2 extra soft pillows was not met. Extremely disappointed ! How is this acceptable for a hotel? I am genuinely shocked by how uncomfortable our stay at Hotel Grasmere Osaka has been. My partner and I are booked for 5 nights, but after just the first night, I am seriously considering cancelling the rest of our stay and finding another hotel. The bed is unbelievably hard. I am not exaggerating when I say it feels like sleeping on a wooden floor. I asked reception whether there was any possibility of a softer bed or a different mattress, and was told there were no alternatives. While this is disappointing, I can accept that a hotel may have a standard mattress throughout the property. What I absolutely cannot understand is the ridiculous lack of choice when it comes to pillows. There are two pillows on the bed. One is so incredibly soft and flat that it may as well be a piece of paper. The other is extremely hard and feels like it is filled with rocks or pieces of straw. Neither is remotely comfortable. I asked reception if they had any other pillows available, expecting that a hotel of this level would have at least a few different options. Instead, I was told they only have soft and hard pillows. Seriously? When you already have an extremely hard mattress, why would you not offer guests a reasonably supportive, comfortable pillow somewhere in between? Having one pillow that is practically flat and another that feels like a bag of rocks is not what I would consider an acceptable range of options for a hotel. The result was that I got barely any sleep at all last night, constantly waking up and trying to find a comfortable position. I woke up this morning with significant neck pain, which is certainly not how I expected to start our stay in Osaka. A comfortable bed and pillow are the absolute basics of a hotel stay. I simply want to be able to sleep comfortably. The fact that we are now considering leaving a hotel we have already booked and paid for because we cannot get a comfortable night’s sleep is incredibly frustrating. The lack of basic attention to guest comfort is extremely disappointing, and based on our first night, I would not recommend staying here if getting a good night’s sleep is important to you.
Very good hotel if you're wanting to be in the thick of the Namba action but far enough away to still get sleep. Hotel is located a 5 min walk from the Dotonburi area, with plenty of food options near the hotel as well as a few cafes and convenience stores. There's a Namba train station entrance right outside the entry so getting on trains is super easy. The rooms themselves are great, although the shower head in our room needed some fixing (super hard spray) and the pillows were very firm. Great views, air conditioning worked well and there was a lot of space for Japanese hotels. There's 3 restaurants in the hotel if needed, but we didn't get to try them. Would recommend for families or couples.
Hotel Monterey Grasmere Osaka was a very comfortable and convenient stay, especially for exploring the Namba area. The location is excellent, with easy access to JR Namba/Osaka-Namba Station and Dotonbori within walking distance, so food, shopping, and sightseeing were all simple to plan. The lobby on the upper floor has a polished, classic atmosphere, and the reception area felt calm and well organized. The room was clean, cozy, and more practical than expected, with a comfortable bed, desk space, bottled water, amenities, and a bathtub bathroom setup. Storage space is a little limited, but the room layout works well for travelers. The city view, especially at night, was a real highlight. Staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast had a very good variety with attentive service. A solid choice for staying in central Osaka 😊
The Hotel Monterey Osaka offers a charming and distinctive stay with a European-inspired design that sets it apart from typical business hotels. The interior has a classic, slightly vintage atmosphere, which gives the hotel a unique character and makes the experience feel a bit more special. The rooms are clean and comfortable, though not particularly spacious. The location is convenient, within walking distance of Osaka Station, making it easy to access transportation, shopping, and dining areas. Staff service is generally polite and efficient, ensuring a smooth check-in and stay. On the downside, some facilities may feel a bit dated, and sound insulation can vary depending on the room. Overall, it’s a solid choice for travelers who appreciate a bit of style and atmosphere, offering good value and convenience without being overly expensive.
