About Activity
Explore the enchanting Marino Ballena National Park, a place where the beach takes on the shape of a whale's tail. This untouched paradise covers 171 hectares of lush jungle merging with pristine sandy shores, along with 5,375 hectares of sea featuring rocky coastlines, caves, islands, mangroves, and a vast coral reef.
From your selected hotel, the touristic van will transport you to the community of Uvita. Once you arrive to the operations centre, the professional naturalist guide will give you your life vest, snorkeling gear and the safety recommendations that you have to follow along the ocean exploration.
After a short walk of 100 meters from the National Park entrance, you will board the tourist boat directly from Uvita Beach, so get ready to receive some splashes, as there is no port or marina on the beach.
Along the 3 hours boat tour, you will enjoy the scenic beauty of the coastline of Ballena Bay while the experienced captain navigate the ocean in search of nature wonders.
You will have the chance to see from the boat the islets with its pelagic birds and most of the beaches that protects this national park including Ventanas beach with its amazing marine caverns that were carved by erosion over thousands of years. If weather conditions permit, the captain will try to navigate the boat through these wonderful natural water passages to give you a spectacular view.
Unexpectedly, you will be able to see the resident dolphins that love to play and jumping with acrobatic displays but undoubtedly one of the most unforgettable moments will be the wild encounter with whales.
The bay of this national park has the ideal temperature needed for calving of humpback whales. The baby whales are nearly 1 tonne when born and the adult whales can be between 12 and 16 meters long. Just imagine yourself feeling this extraordinary energy and hearing that mysterious sounds at just few meters from the boat.
Afterwards, if ocean conditions and visibility allows, you will have around 30 minutes for snorkeling around the coral and rock reefs to observe the wonderful marine wildlife, you will be surprised that you could see crustaceans, mollusks and plenty of colorful tropical fish. The sites for snorkeling are located close to Whale Island on high tide and the famous Whale's tail at low tide.
