Great experience. Highly recommend. Excellent guide with environmental knowledge. Well paced excursion.
It was really interesting and a great trip with a perfect guide. We learned a lot about Mangrove, and had a great break with fresh pineapple and coconut.
This was a wonderful kayak tour of the mangroves in Puerto Jiménez. The company was very easy to communicate with and our guide, Tamar, was excellent – she taught us a lot about the different kinds of mangroves and animals who live in that ecosystem, and scratched herself up in order to get a very special and unusual fruit for us to eat from one of the plants along the banks. There was a cruise ship in Puerto Jimenez that day so we were in a large group and there were several other large kayaking groups in the mangroves – if you want a more intimate experience you might want to make sure you’re not going on a day when there’s a big cruise ship in the port.
Happy a lovely afternoon learning about the different types of mangroves. It was a very chilled relaxed paddle. Saw a few birds and some crabs but not much else in terms of wildlife. Also got to try the little fruit that was like a pineapple/banana/pear mashup. They were delicious. The fruit and water at the end was a nice treat. They use sit on kayaks so a sarong to cover your legs is helpful to keep you cooler and from frying your legs.
Awesome experience! Our guide was very knowledgeable - learned a lot about mangroves and the biodiversity of the area. The kayaking was hard work at times but fun!
We had an excellent experience on our kayak tour of the mangroves. Tamara was very knowledgeable and passionate about nature and the living environment of the mangroves. Organizing the tour directly with Alberto was easy and he was very responsive. Highly recommend.
Do t miss this tour if you want an incredible tour through the mangroves and to learn why these trees are so essential to protecting the environment. Alberto is so knowledgeable about birds , the mangrove system and an excellent kayak instructor. I spent 4 wonderful hours recording , learning and enjoying the tranquility of the mangrove passage . It was fabulous!
We absolutely loved our kayak through the mangroves. Our guide was so knowledgeable and kind. We enjoyed a delicious meal afterwards at the cafe. I would highly recommend this company!!
This kayak tour with Alberto was incredible. Alberto knows so much about the mangroves. He was informative and very kind. It was an amazing activity.
Our group recently went on an early morning kayak tour. We started out in calm, open water as the sun came up. After about an hour, our guide, Alberto, led us to a beach stop on the Golfo Dulce, where he cracked open a coconut and served it with some fresh pineapple. The second half of the excursion was through the Mangroves. Trees and shrubs survive in salty, brackish waters and can tolerate being regularly flooded by tides. These specialized plants play a crucial role in coastal ecosystems, providing habitat and nursery grounds for many species. It required more paddling against the current on our part and dodging snags and branches in tight canals. But we saw more wildlife up close. I've toured Mangroves before but never in a kayak. I'd highly recommend it if you have the chance.
We did a 3 hour mangrove kayak tour, an incredible experience with amazing guide, he was really knowledgeable about all life in the mangrove and even cut up a fresh pineapple and a coconut snack and even showed how to open, slice and drink from a coconut! It exceeded our expectations and would highly recommend, fantastic experience
We had a great time on this tour! I’ll admit I was a little skeptical going in but it turned out to be one of the best excursions we did in Costa Rica. Our guide Lino (I hope I’ve spelled it correctly) was awesome and just an all round good guy and interesting to talk to. I highly recommend this tour!
This tour exceeded our expectations and would definitely recommend. We started at 7am during high tide and had a very tranquil paddle through the mangroves. Minimal physical exertion because the water is so calm and we went slow, and they also have tandem kayaks. Lino was a great guide and showed us many things to paddle over and look at. The mangrove forest was really cool, and at the end we stopped and watched a family of capuchin monkeys playing. On the paddle back we stopped at the beach next to the river and had a swim break in golfo dulce which was very refreshing, and Lino cut up fresh coconut and pineapple for us. We didn’t get bit by many bugs and some of the river is shaded. Only shoes you need are flip flops for the hot sand on the beach. Great tour!!
Such an awesome experience! If you’re in Puerto Jiménez, be sure to check it out!! It will exceed any and all expectations.
The guide was very good. Good equipment, nice snacks. They had showers which people can use afterwards. Only two other kayaks (plus the guide) when we went allowing detailed conversations. We saw scarlet macaws and sandpipers
We have enjoyed every minute of the Mangrove Kayak Tour. Our guide Lino did a great job explaining the flora and fauna of the Plantaranes river. The twin kayak worked well for 2 adults and 2 small kids. We would recommend the tour for the morning or the afternoon to avoid the midday sun. Thanks to Alberto for his great consulting and customer service.
This tour was a lovely way to start the morning here in Puerto Jimenez. The water that you kayak on throughout the whole trip was very gentle and the mangroves were beautiful. Our tour guide Lino made sure to teach us all about the plants and animals in the area. Towards the end of the tour we had some delicious fruit on the beach before heading back. I would recommend wearing sunscreen as half of the tour is in direct sunlight.
Had a great morning paddling mangroves. Saw plenty of birdlife and lizards/iguanas. Laura our guide also gave insights into mangrove ecosystem. Paddled at a leisurely pace and stopped on way back at beach for swim/refreshments. Staff were very helpful/professional in dealing with the demands of a group with very small children and the other end of the age spectrum. There is also a nice cafe attached for post paddling refreshments.
This turned out to be a mangrove + sunset + bioluminescence tour which it didn’t say when we booked on Tripadvisor but which was really nice and we enjoyed it a lot. Special thanks to our very knowledgable guide who knew so much about biology!
Super friendly hosts and guide and a great group on the tour too. Great value, loved every minute and highly recommend!
It was very peaceful and took a while getting used to it as we’d never done it before. But very enjoyable
Our tour guide, Alberto is a very informative, patient teacher. His gentle guidance allowed some family members to be more energetic while taking care of the smaller and slower travelers. His knowledges and love for the Mangroves shows. Watch out, his love for the mangroves may wear off on you.
Professional and super knowledgeable, the Robleto family's passion for the Golfo Dulce, it's biodiversity and mangrove ecosystems make this an unforgettable experience!
This is the best tour on the Osa if not all of Costa Rica. Guides are passionate and knowledgeable. I feel I should get college credit for all I learned about the ecosystem.
Our guide Esteban was wonderful and very knowledgeable. I enjoyed learning the workings of the mangroves and their importance in the coastal landscape.
What a wonderful place, staff and tour! Make sure you treat yourself in the little cafe they have and pet the lovely cats! Our guide lino was so sweet and knowledgeable about the mangrove ecosystem. This company really make sure they fulfill all three sustainable dimensions. Everything from supporting a local community and economy to respecting the wildlife and taking a few minutes to just listen to the noise of the jungle and encourage us to live in the moment. We got treated to a swim before heading back and our guide showed us how to crack a coconut and make a pina colada. Thank you so much for a lovely experience! /Amanda, Anton, Eva & Leif.
A very enjoyable, gentle exploration of the mangrove forest by kayak. With our very knowledgeable guide Esteban. We enjoyed the peace of the forest from the kayak, saw some wildlife, lizards and birds. Esteban explained how the mangrove forest came to be in Costa Rica, how they grow, how the leaf system works, how important the mangroves are for the ecology of the area and how many other animals and plants need the mangroves. Esteban also demonstrated how to open up a coconut, drink the milk and eat the lining and how to make a non alcoholic Pina Colada! One word of advice, avoid getting sun burnt, wear long sleeved clothes and maybe leg covering and use a lot of sunscreen. We both got burned in areas we forgot to apply a lot of factor 50!
What a wonderful day. Alberto was our mangrove kayak guide. He was amazing! Knowledgeable about the mangroves and the animals who reside within. He answered all of our questions with ease and a smile. I highly recommend Aventuras Tropicales for your Mangrove tour needs. Great for singles, couples and families. Alberto went above and beyond to assist us even after the tour was complete. Our vehicle would not start, and Alberto came to the rescue. Incredibly enough, he was able to get our vehicle started, and we were on our way. Kind beyond measure!
We loved the half day mangrove kayak tour. Diego was a fantastic guide, and was great at giving us kayaking tips as well as spotting wildlife and teaching us about the area. Near the end of the tour, we stopped and had a chance to swim in the gulf (perfect water!) and Diego cut up fresh pineapple and coconut. I will be forever sad when I have pineapple at home because it will never live up to the pineapple we had on the tour! Staff is friendly and helpful at the main office and stored our bags with them, and there was also a place to rinse off our feet. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Be sure to put on a lot of sunscreen and bring water, since the beginning and end of the trip is not as shaded. One of the highlights of our trip, would absolutely recommend!
By far our groups favorite activity. The guides are extremely nice, knowledgeable, and fun. They prepared an amazing lunch for us as well as two snacks through out the day. They will teach you how to open a coconut with a stick and it will blow your mind. I wish we could have had these guides for all of our activities in Costa Rica! They know a lot about the area and are fun to spend the day with.
We loved our kayaking tour through the primary mangrove forest. Our guide taught us about the difference between the red and black mangroves, and she described some adaptations for each. Highly recommend this tour!
We went on both their mangrove tour and their sunset + bioluminescence your later. They provide everything. The groups are very small (We had 3-5 kayaks on each), We have never seen anything like what we saw in their bioluminescence tour in our lives! It was truly magical!! My husband left his camera there and Laura called several times to try to find us and eventually she put it on a plane so we could pick it up in San Jose before we left the country the next day. Exceptional service! Thank you!!
1. Guide Laura taught us how to open a coconut with merely a hardwood stick on the beach. I tried her method the following day in Corcovado and the rangers were impressed, for a gringo. 2. The deeper into the mangroves we paddled, the bigger the wildlife got. Crabs, raccoons, birds, and fish. Hoped to see some reptiles but they were hard to spot. We had heard howler monkeys all week and finally saw one. 3. The kayaks are handmade by the owner! They track with ease across the gulf and up the river. Superior boats to the rotomolded plastic ones from sporting goods stores. 4. Beach for snacks had great view of sunset, soft sand, and all the pineapple we could eat. 5. Moonlight / dark paddle across the gulf after snacks was beautiful and calm, our first time paddling at night. Wish we could have gone further!
Great tour and fun for kids too if they are not afraid of the dark. Our guide was very knowledgeable and attentive. Booking was easy and they reply quickly. The coconut and pineapple was very refreshing.
That was a great experience! Kayaking through the mangroves and a break with pineapple and coconuts. Great staff and nice team. Recommended. Thank you!
We actually didn't plan to stop in Puerto Jimenez but after a good recommendation we decided to do this tour. And it was all worth. It has been one of our favourite tour so far. While paddling through the mangroves we've seen lots of animals. We enjoyed a private tour guided by lovely Alberto sen. Alberto has a huge knowledge about nature which he shared with us in perfect english. We had a stop at the beach with a fresh fruit snack before we swam and paddled in the ocean. To see the bioluminescence was just unbelievable.
Sortie très belle avec un guide super intéressant et très sympathique. Petite baignade dans la mer ainsi qu'une dégustation durant la ballade
The place is amazing! The kayak service is very complete, the tour is beautiful. Also, after the boat tour you can enjoy coffee, they prepare delicious food. Totally satisfied!
The mangrove tour by kayak was one of our highlights in Costa Rica. From our guide we could learn a lot about the mangroves and paddling in the woods was impressive and was just fun. Thanks for the great tour!
Kayakear in the mangroves of the Sweet Gulf is an unforgettable experience if you are in the company of tropical adventure guides. They have a very reliable Enterprise and are also very committed to the community! They are definitely the best option in Puerto Jimenez! We love working with them.
