If it hadn’t been for the terrible experience in the Proof Bar, we would have been happy to visit this hotel again. On top of it, the assistant front desk manager, Tushar, lied to us to convince us to stay and try again and have dinner but on the house. So we did and in the end one appetizer and one desert was taken off the bill and we had to pay for the rest. He even took down our room number when he made the offer so I thought maybe it would be removed after. It was not even after following up with the hotel. Tushar sent us a sympathetic response repeating everything I shared in my email but no offer to reimburse us as promised. As a result we will not stay there again when we go to shop in Yorkville. We would have been happy that they just acknowledged the poor service etc. as they did and stop at the promise to do better as they did. Just taking responsibility for a bad experience is all customers are looking for. Not a free meal. But when management chooses to make the offer they should follow through.

Very convenient location, friendly concierge service and spacious rooms. Loved the free water bottles at the front desk too 😂 lots of cafes and the ROM right outside your door. Restaurant food was fine but gargantuanly overpriced. A $9 + tip espresso?! One must laugh. All in all though, we had a great stay. And really appreciated the silly animal art / theme on the room cards. A little bit of personality goes a long way
I booked a room for my girlfriend and myself over two weeks in advance for an anniversary weekend. Upon arriving, we were immediately told that they could not accommodate us at all. The manager refused my requests to give us ANY available room which I was willing to do to stay in the area, as the whole long weekend was planned around being in walking distance of various attractions. We were provided with a hotel around 20 minutes away. They also refused to cover my overnight parking which I had payed for, and since I had to take my car to the new hotel, no taxi was provided either. The worst part of this was that we were not informed of any issues until we were at the front desk, tired, parking paid for and heavy bags in hand. The manager, Tushar, justified this by lying and saying they did not have my contract details. He also promised a full refund which has yet to come through 5 days later. Will update if it does. The Royal Sonesta has provided me with the single worst hotel experience I've had. I have never had a hotel say they couldn't accommodate me - I guess they needed the space for corrupt politicians billing taxpayers for their stay.
Excellent location and lovely accommodations. My only complaint is that our room had terrible lighting. There was only ambient lighting near beds and in the bathroom, no overhead lighting in sight! Had a very difficult time seeing especially during dusk and evening when sunlight wasn’t available. Another complaint: you can definitely smell dog. They allow dogs (pets) in the rooms, but the hallways had that faint dog smell. Also, there was a dog staying in one of the rooms down the hall and barked constantly whenever it heard someone walking by. The location is great, but a lot of homeless people, littering and loitering nearby.
Great Hotel in a very central location. Rooms were big, modern and nicely designed. check-in experience was a little bumpy but the rest of the stay was great and made up for it. Shout out to Vincent at the front desk who helped us a lot.
