A Convenient Place to Stay, but Little More The Lord Elgin Hotel enjoys a convenient location close to downtown Ottawa’s most emblematic areas and attractions. Its central position makes it a practical base for exploring the Canadian capital. The rooms are large, and the bathrooms are spacious, providing a reasonable level of comfort for a city stay. The hotel’s location is undoubtedly one of its strongest points, particularly for visitors wishing to explore Ottawa on foot. Unfortunately, the overall experience does not live up to the expectations created by the property’s reputation and location. The restaurant is nothing particularly special and would benefit from stronger management and a more consistent approach to the dining experience. Cleanliness is another area that requires attention and should be treated as a priority. The service is generally acceptable, but it lacks the warmth, attentiveness and attention to detail that would make the stay genuinely memorable. Staff interactions were correct, although at times the service gave the impression that asking for additional assistance was an inconvenience. The concierge service was a good example. While the assistance provided was adequate, it did not go beyond the basic expectations of the role, and the experience was not particularly impressive. It is unfortunate to have to say this, as the hotel has a convenient location and offers rooms of a reasonable size. However, the overall service, cleanliness and dining experience fall short of what one would hope for. The Lord Elgin is a functional option for a stay in Ottawa, but it does not stand out for its hospitality or overall quality. There are better hotels in the city for travellers seeking a more polished and rewarding experience.

Nice well located hotel with just a few too many things not quite right to give a better rating. Rooms functional if a little small. As is so often case some amenities a little difficult to use. Only 2 of 4 lifts operational on a weekend. Getting a seat for breakfast was a challenge and seemed a little short staffed. Buffet breakfast was ordinary but a la carte was much better. Staff excellent.
Lovely hotel, well situated to wander around. Beautiful interior. The beds were comfortable with a large number of pillows available. Room air conditioning was quite powerful when operating on thermostat. So I personally went from feeling quite warm at times while sleeping. My husband was fine. We ate at the restaurant first night as we arrived late. Very accommodating to our dietary needs. Also ordered breakfast pancakes through room service, which were absolutely delicious. Light and fluffy.
I had one night in Ottawa this past July and am glad this was where I stayed. It's a very beautiful old hotel but the room was nicely modernized. My room was small, and possibly the smallest hotel bathroom I've ever seen, but for a solo traveler for one night, it was totally sufficient. Check in was a breeze, greeted with pure Canadian niceness. Valet parking worked great for arrival and departure. Tons of nice seating areas around the lobby for meeting up with folks. The location looks like it'd be really nice if you were in town longer and trying to see the sights of Ottawa. For the level of amenities and class and historical value of the building, I'd expect to pay tripple in most US cities. Would definitely stay here again.
Lord Elgin Hotel is terrific. The level of service is excellent! The employees you deal with are all lovely and very helpful. They do a great service to the hotel. You really cannot get a better location unless you stay at the Office of the Prime Minister. You are close enough to be walkable to almost everything, yet you are not subjected to noise. Our room was delightful quiet and calm. The beds were comfy. The rooms are spacious and nice. I would say they are getting close to the time to update the decor. It's all very nice and clean. It's just starting to show age with the actual decor choices, not the quality.
