My wife Audrey and I stayed at the Sand and Tan Beach Hotel in Ocho Rios, and I want to publicly recognize one employee in particular: Lacey Hicks. Lacey provided us with truly exceptional service. She didn't just do what was required—she repeatedly checked on us, made sure our concerns were addressed, and followed through when we needed assistance. When we experienced an issue with the safe in our room, Lacey made sure the matter received attention, and Alex ultimately came and helped resolve it. What impressed us most was Lacey's genuine concern for us as guests. She was attentive, professional, caring, and consistent. In my opinion, she represents the kind of hospitality every hotel should want its guests to experience. I previously took the time to send the hotel a detailed letter specifically commending Lacey and recommending that her outstanding work be recognized. I was therefore disappointed to learn that, as of this writing, she apparently has NOT received any acknowledgment of that commendation. That is one reason I am posting this publicly. I want there to be no question about what Audrey and I experienced: Lacey Hicks did an outstanding job, and we believe her service deserves to be recognized. I also want to recognize Alex, who assisted us with the safe, and Celine at the front desk, who was kind and helpful during our stay. The Sand and Tan has a beautiful location by the water, and scenery aren't what ultimately define hospitality—people do. Employees who genuinely care about their guests can make all the difference. Lacey certainly made that difference for us. Thank you, Lacey, for the way you treated Audrey and me during our time in Jamaica. Your kindness and professionalism did not go unnoticed, and they have not been forgotten. — Harry & Audrey 🙏🏽❤️💪🏽

The hotel is situated at a beautiful location. The sea view is exceptional and you are right by the river. The food was good at the restaurant on property and the staff were helpful and friendly. However, the room was right above the bar and there was loud music playing all day for the entire weekend. It was torture and left me with a horrible headache at the end of the weekend rather than feeling refreshed by the experience. If loud noise doesn''t bother you, it's not a bad place to stay.
This was my second time here and I wanted to try again before I gave a review since I went right after Hurricane Melissa hit. Love the beach, love the food and love the customer service. I will definitely visit again, the staff is friendly and responsive. The rooms are okay for a boutique hotel, could use a bit of sprucing up but apart from that both stays were great
In my honest opinion they are ok. I had high expectations but I was disappointed. There main manager is heaven sent but other staff members need to take a page from her book. The rooms were nothing to write home about, outdated. The kitchen cannot manage high volumes of customers but the bar service was good. Rafting was excellent and affordable, the beach was also clean and nice. I believe if the owner invest properly in the property and re-trains staff this place would be a gem.
The staff and amenities were good, but we have given this property a five star rating for its location, setting and vibe. It is further down the coast from the big gated resorts and is close to the white river. If you’re independently minded and like doing your own thing - perhaps with a rental car as we had, or even if you don’t- then this offers more freedom than a mega resort . One other thing we liked was that it is popular with Jamaican visitors, not just tourists . It enabled a lot more cultural exposure. The breakfast is excellent, with eggs cooked to order, or a Jamaican breakfast . A small quiet beach and colourful murals as decor make it feel quite personable. There is a bar and an ocean deck. There is also free parking. The accommodation is actually a beach hotel and not a resort like others in Ocho Rios- with multiple pools and the like. It is also a slightly older property with a rustic charm. If you want a flashy and new resort, where you’ll only meet tourists and staff, this is not the place for you. If you want an authentic, decent quality beach hotel vibe and a great base for exploring then we strongly recommend the Sand and Tan
