Perfect place for an escape to see the stars in summer. Excellent service, good breakfast and exceptional saunas set as an extra plus. Small details like good cosmetic or a small welcoming treat are making the experience even better. The rooms are not super-sparkly new, but in a good condition, and very clean.

Great classic venue, managed with care and attention to detail. Especially desk staff is very attentative. Thank you. If ever possible at your next remodelling: start getting rid of carpets also in the remaining areas - its simply not appropriate anymore. Restaurant: very decent menu, loved the grilled shrimp with the lobster soup. Venison was nicely prepared too - bit too much extravaganza on the side decorations - less is more. Veal was excellent. Consider to have at least one classic bavarian dish in top quality as a main on the menu. Most of the places in your vicinity moved to convenience cooking and its merely impossible to get a decent Semmelknödel in Murnau these days. Might be your opportunity to revive bavarian kitchen dedication… Breakfast: excellent selection and display. A classic plus of Alpenhof. Loved the scrambled egg, much better than the regular „5 star“ watery canister egg. One suggestion: if you have pancakes on a selection menu: you can do better than two flat, lukewarm, dry, pree-cooked pancakes with no decoration whatsoever and a sad tiny bowl of maple sirup. Either do it right and make them fresh and add at least a few berries - or simply skip them from the menu. If people realize you prepare stuff fresh, they will always appreciate it. Thanks again for a lovely stay, I will certainly be back
The hotel’s best feature is the staff, which is outstanding. Location is excellent with incredible access to hiking and biking. The public areas are great. On the improvement side (and I spend more than 100 nights/ year in hotels) are the hallways and bathrooms. They are dated and in need of improvements. Particularly the bathrooms: in which 5 star hotel do you still need to climb into a bathtub to take a shower and then have the shower unit on the length side, rather than the head? Also would expect a double sink. Lastly, in this day and age an air conditioning system in a luxury hotel is mandatory.
I spent five days at this hotel. At first glance, the property makes an excellent impression and has all the ingredients of a true 5-star hotel. The facilities are beautiful, and the hotel clearly has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, the service experience did not live up to the standards one would expect from a hotel in this category. The check-in process was smooth and professional. However, the first signs of shortcomings appeared shortly thereafter. The elevator buttons, both inside and outside the elevators, were unusually difficult to press. When I needed an iron, I tried calling both housekeeping and the reception several times, but no one answered. Eventually, I had to go down to the reception desk myself, where only the night staff was available. I received the iron the following day. Another noticeable issue was the complete absence of any luggage assistance. Neither upon arrival nor departure was help with luggage offered, which is normally a standard service at a hotel of this level. More generally, I had the impression that cost-cutting measures were visible in many areas, unfortunately often in ways that directly affected the guest experience. The dining experience was also disappointing. The salad buffet at dinner was very limited and lacked the attention to detail and presentation one would expect. The dinner menu itself was rather small and not particularly inspiring. I therefore opted for the à la carte menu. The beef tartare was acceptable, but it was served without toast or brioche. We had to repeatedly ask for bread, and the response from the waiter felt dismissive rather than service-oriented. The schnitzel was fine but certainly not memorable. The dessert selection was particularly underwhelming, consisting of only two sweet options: Bavarian cream and ice cream. For a hotel claiming 5-star standards, this felt surprisingly limited. One area that deserves special recognition is the bar. The bar staff were consistently friendly, attentive, welcoming, and professional throughout my stay. They created one of the few moments where I genuinely felt valued as a guest. Unfortunately, this positive attitude was not reflected across the rest of the hotel. The following morning, I arrived at breakfast around 9:00 AM. The buffet already looked largely depleted. There was very little cold cut selection and almost no bread left. When I asked for whole-grain bread and additional cold cuts, I was told that they had run out because not enough had been ordered. Hearing this explanation as a guest in a hotel of this category was quite surprising and left an unprofessional impression. What disappointed me most was not any single incident, but the consistency of these issues throughout the hotel. There seemed to be a lack of attention to detail, proactive service, and genuine hospitality. The property itself has the infrastructure and appearance of a luxury hotel, but the overall guest experience falls short of that promise. Finally, during check-out, nobody asked for feedback or even offered a warm farewell. As many hoteliers know, the last impression is often the one guests remember most. In summary, I would currently rate this hotel 3 out of 5 stars. The facilities are strong, but the service standards are not up to.tge game.. What is missing is not luxury, but the sense of care, pride, and hospitality that transforms a beautiful property into a truly exceptional hotel experience.
I really like Murnau and this hotel is very peaceful and located in a very quiet place. I love the saunas and the outdoor pool. The rooms were kept very well. The dinner menu was exquisite with course meals. The staff was very attentive and helpful and enjoyed every bit of my stay. Very recommendable
