Would recommend, Jane was a great host, and gave us the history behind the dishes we made. Dishes were delicious, as were the cocktails! Our experience would have been made even better if we each had our own cooking station, as we have had in other classes elsewhere. Each couple shared a burner on the stove, which was surprising given the price point. The room was very hot during the cooking. Some stoves had fans above them, ours did not. Of course it’s Mexico, so expect heat- but this was excessive. On balance was fun and delicious, and enjoyed our time with Jane, her helpers and the other students.

Took the Street Food class with Jane. All round awesome experience. Loved going to the small village where the class is held. Super Easy as they arranged for pick up and transport from our hotel to the class. (About a half hour drive). Fun and informative cooking class. We loved the food and drink.
The cooking class was amazing. Jane provided a detailed history and influences on the food of the area. We made salsas, tortillas with a variety of toppings. The location was about 20 minute ride from Huatalco resorts in a beautiful oasis in the hills. Refreshments beer, wine, juices , cocktails were provided to enjoy with our midmorning snack and lunch where we enjoyed our efforts. Jane’s assistants were wonderful & certainly saved our tortillas from being squished out of the press!
Such a great experience. We learned a lot and really enjoyed the cooking. Jane is so engaging. Learned a lot about Mexican food traditions and history. It is very warm in the teaching kitchen so dress appropriately.
One of the best food travel experiences I’ve ever done. Learned so much about the history and people of Mexico through its food. Food was delicious.
This was one of my most memorable moments of our trip to Huatulco! Jane is a wealth of knowledge, a gifted chef, and so fun to learn from! Take this class if you want to experience Huatulco culture and food!!!
Great venue. Jane is spectacular! We had amazing food, learned a lot about the region and of course how to make some delish meals and drinks! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
March 2025 This is hands down the best cooking class I've ever had. Jane is a food historian. While learning about preparations of local foods she is teaching you about the rich history behind the origins of certain ingredients being used. She is fun, lively, and committed to supporting the locals in her village through scholarships and employment. The food we prepared was delicious and eating together under the shade of a beautiful tree on her beautiful property was a treat. this is a must do when in Hualtulco. She also has a restaurant closer to town.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our cooking class with Jane and crew. The facility was very clean and quite comfortable. We met other travellers who also loved, and appreciated the wonderful tastes of Huatulco. Jane was very informative with her instructions of cooking, and also her in depth knowledge of the state of Oaxaca and Mexico. I highly recommend this class, you won't be disappointed. Thank you Jane! Deb & Tom Northern Ontario, Canada
Very nice class. The driver was on time and easy to find. Cooking class was enjoyable. We learned about the history of the area. It was a very hot day so the heat was a factor for us.
My partner and I experienced an anthropological cooking class with Jane and her sous-chef in a small town. We were picked up among other tourists and brought to the cooking class where we spent three hours learning about the history of Mexico, drinking margaritas and prepping several dishes. It was the highlight of our trip!
Highly recommend Chocolate and Chiles street food cooking class. It’s a bit of a drive from La Crucecita but worth it. We loved the education/history lesson and creating amazing salsas, fillings, and a margarita! The location is beautiful. Love the cookbook that has the recipes in it so you can make at home.
What a wonderful experience! Jane is genuine, passionate and appreciative of all things cooking and Mexico. Her knowledge of the national and local culture, history and food brings the whole cooking class together. It’s easy to read a recipe book or watch a video, but Jane’s personal stories puts a memorable bow on the whole experience. The setting was perfect too!
Very nice cooking class. Jane is very Knowledgeable and make the class both fun and informative. Loved it. Laura Marling
Jane did a wonderful job of making everyone in the group feel comfortable. Explanations of the ingredients that we were using were in enlightening. We not only learned a little about cooking but about history. The trip out to the cooking school was interesting. It’s always fun to be able to see some of the countryside. We got a good variety of tastes because each team made a different flavor of the same item. The meal that we shared was delicious. And we all helped to make it.
So much fun learning to cook Mexican street food, but it was the wayJane wove in her knowledge of and passion for the local culture and history that really elevated the experience. Delicious food, great setting, and have fun, relaxed atmosphere. We’re really glad we decided to do this.
Jane was amazing! Very knowledgeable, super fun cooking with her and the other guests! We’d also done the street food walking tour! Was an amazing way to taste the foods we otherwise wouldn’t have. Her restaurant Cafe Juanita is fabulous also! Thanks for everything Jane! Steve and Penny
DON’T HESITATE! Jane was amazing. Pick up at cruise port was smooth. The cooking school is off the beaten path but so worth it. You will learn cooking tips plus so much rich history. The food was exceptional. Jane was a great host. Communication was top notch!! You will not regret this tour!!!!!!!
We had an amazing time with Jane at her cooking school learning about local recipes, techniques, culture, and history. We all agreed this was our favorite activity while we were in Huatulco. Our 11yo jumped right in and was learning from Jane right along side my wife and I. Our 9yo even helped out where he could and Jane was awesome engaging with him and finding tasks he could enjoy doing. And when he got bored, he was in charge of petting the resident perros who lazily slept on the porch. The location of the cooking school is remote but that is part of the charm. It is an absolutely beautiful spot on the high banks of a river. The Street Food Class was perfect for our family including the youngsters. We loved making everything on the menu but the standouts were the tortillas and the salsas. I also liked the fresh Jamaica Margarita. ;) 5 out of 5. We cant wait to go back and try a different menu.
Fun Activity! Our Street Food Class was truly an exceptionally interesting and fun family activity. Jane is a very warm, knowledgeable, organized teacher who helped create a wonderful family experience! We enjoyed all the fresh, delicious food. I especially loved the Red Salsa and the refreshing beverages made from scratch. We expected to learn how to make some traditional Mexican foods, but we didn’t expect to have our experience match, or beat, our other enjoyable experiences in Oaxaca! Although I didn’t get to Jane’s restaurant for a dinner, which is currently available Tuesday evenings, it is at the top of my To-Experience List for next time. If you are looking to eat out, Cafe Juanita is conveniently located across from Dreams and comes highly recommended. Thank you so much Jane, I feel grateful to have met you ❤️
It was really cool using the same cooking methods they use in the country. Jan is very knowledgeable and amazing
We had an excellent time all the knowledge imparted was fabulous. Learning about the history of Mexico and the foods from this area was great. Hopefully we have time to go to your restaurant before we leave. Otherwise, we’ll certainly stop by next time we’re here. Todd and Karen.
We the 3 amigo's had a class all to ourselves. Jane is very knowledgeable in all of Mexican history we had a great time cooking and eating and learning. Definitely a must do in Huatulco!!!
Oh my gosh, we loved this and loved Jane! We learned so much about Mexico and about cooking and the history of food in Mexico. Also, nice to get out of city center and see how people are actually living away from where we were staying in an Air BNB. The chilled hibiscus margaritas were the best way to end the day. I appreciated that we received the recipes and can’t wait to try out some of my new knowledge at home. It was very hot, so dress appropriately because there is no air conditioning. Would do it again, or would do one of her other food tours or would eat at her restaurant Cafe Juanita on our next visit. A great activity for a group of friends, a couple, a single person or a family. 🇲🇽 Thank you Jane 💕
A great and enjoyable experience. Juanita is so well versed on not only cooking, but the history of Oaxaca. It was as fascinating listening to her as it was to cook! The kitchen was set up beautifully with 4 cooking stations. Everything was well organized by her efficient assistant in terms of any ingredients or kitchen ware we needed. The best part was taking all this wonderful food and beautiful Jamaica Flower cocktail to the picnic table under the trees to share and enjoy together.
We had an amazing experience and learned a ton about the cooking culture and history of Mexico. Would definitely recommend taking this class
We enjoyed Jane’s class so much. Can’t wait to make homemade tortillas. We look forward to trying her restaurant as well
Fantastic course and the history lesson was the icing on the cake. I learned so much. Loved making the salsas all so different. I will now be investing In a pestle and mortar, and tortilla press. Everything tasted so delicious. I will return here one day and for sure take another course.
My husband and I took this class and wow what a great experience. We learned so much about mexico, the local culture and cuisine. Jane has a passion for the food and the people. We enjoyed making and eating all the different salsas, tacos and tluydas and washing them down with a hibiscus margarita. Totally recommend.
My son and I chose the Mexican Street Food cooking class. We were eager to learn more about Oaxaca's traditional foods and learn a few tips for cooking this delicious cuisine at home. The class itself was delightful. In addition to guiding you through recipes and discussing ingredients, Jane takes you on a veritable historical journey of Mexico. My son and I were both incredibly engaged in the class and came away with so much more than full tummies and special recipes. When I return to Huatulco, I will take more classes here as the experience not only enriched our holiday, it has left me wanting to learn so much more about Mexico! I 100% recommend Chiles & Chocolate cooking Classes. Treat yourself to a culinary and historical journey!
I took this class with my husband and mother-in-law, and we all agree that this was a wonderful experience! It was more than just a cooking class, as Jane's instructions were interspersed with information about the various events in history that influenced the food of the region. I would highly recommend taking a class with Jane.
Amazing cooking class on the local street food combined with story telling on the history of Mexico and Oaxaca in particular Beautiful setting
Not only did we learn how to make some delicious cuisine, we learned about the foods we used to prepare them, and the history of Mexico. Jane had wonderful hospitality and a beautiful location to not only cook, but enjoy the foods we made. As an extra bonus, we had an amazing brunch at Cafe Juanita's and purchased some of the salts we used in our salsas. Highly recommend and we will be back for sure.
A wonderful time. Not just a cooking class, but history, an amazing outdoor atmosphere, new friends!! The food was delicious and her beautiful outdoor table made this a very authentic Mexican experience. What I thought was going to be a little day filler on my vacation turned out to be the high light! This definitely earns a 10 taco rating!
If you want to learn the history of Mexican cuisine, learn how to cook it, make new friends, eat a great meal and experience “real” Mexico, this is the class for you. Can’t say enough what a great overall experience this was. Ten stars 🌟
We had a fantastic day learning to cook food from Oaxaca with Jane. A taxi picked us up from our hotel and drove us to Jane's kitchen in the countryside. The garden was beautiful and the views stunning. We learned lots of interesting things in the class about how Mexican history has influenced the cuisine. She taught us about different cooking methods that local people use, and we tried some of them out. We made a delicious red sauce with fresh tomatoes and Chipotle peppers, and a green sauce with tomatillos. We made quesadillas and tlayudas, and homemade tortillas. We also ate the fruits of our labours at lunchtime with hibiscus margaritas. We got to take home a recipe book and Jane emailed us the recipes as well.
My friend and I attended the Mexican Street foods cooking class yesterday. Awesome experience. Learned how to make some interesting dishes with ingredients we haven't cooked with before. Jane's knowledge of Mexico, culturally and historically was very interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and would encourage anyone to attend a class if they have the chance.
This was a highlight of our trip! It was more than a cooking class. The class included local ingredients and history of the region in a relaxed atmosphere. Shuttle to and from the facility was included and we ate our meals together at the end. I cannot recommend this enough. We will absolutely being doing this again!
Would highly recommend you learn and appreciate the history of the food you would be cooking not to mention you get to eat it when you’re done Jan dairy knowledgeable
The logistics were super easy and the class was extremely informative about Mexican culture, history, and food. The lady was lovely and the group was friendly. An overall fun experience.
We had a fantastic time with this class. We also learned a lot about the area culture through its food . Jane is a terrific host and teacher. I would say that all of the guys who got talked into joining the class ended up enjoying it just as much as the girls ! I know I did !
What a wonderful and fascinating experience this was. Jane was so full of information about the history of Mexico and the traditional foods available there, and the food we made was delicious, and in such a beautiful surrounding! We loved this cooking class
Very enjoyable experience, gained so much knowledge about food and culture in Oaxaca! Would totally recommend
I thoroughly enjoyed taking the classes at Chilies and Chocolate. I took the street food class and the seafood class. Both were excellent. Jane is so well prepared and we do a variety of things in each class. It is very hands on and a very friendly atmosphere. Jane is great at connecting the ingredients with the history and the culture.
My wife and I learned quite a bit about Mexican food history as well as cooking techniques in this class. Jane has crafted her own recipe for an informative and enjoyable cooking experience which we would highly recommend to anyone with an interest in Mexican food and culture.
What a great experience! Jane is a fun and engaging instructor, and along with the amazing recipes she taught us, she also provided great historical context for the food and culture. The setting for the class is beautiful and we’ll set up, and really contributed to the overall great experience. I’m very motivated to try my new recipes!
Jane's cooking class was well organized, fun, and incredibly informative. The cooking school set-up allows participants to experience every stage of the process hands-on, and then enjoy the results. While cooking, we learned about the history of the area and the original of the foods we were cooking. I would definitely go again!
I cannot recommend this experience highly enough. It wasn’t just a cooking experience, but also educational. Jane is a wonderful teacher and the recipes we’ve learned are simple and delicious. I can’t wait to go home and cook for everyone.
A must when visiting Hautulco. Loved the field to table experience and the hands on culinary trip. You make, you eat....wonderful fun 4 hours. The small groups were fantastic way to meet new people.
