This was hands down one of the most inspiring and memorable experiences we’ve had in Oaxaca! As someone who absolutely loves street art, I was excited about this tour, but it exceeded every expectation. We spent two incredible hours walking through the streets with a talented local artist who shared not only the history behind the murals but also the deeper meanings, symbolism, and personal stories behind the artwork. Her knowledge was extraordinary! She knew intimate details about the artists and what they were trying to communicate through their work. We even had the privilege of seeing some of her own pieces along the way! What made this experience especially meaningful was how beautifully she connected the art to Oaxacan history, traditions, and culture. We learned about the significance of the cicada as an informer of weather and even got to create our own cicada block prints! She also gifted each of us a beautiful metal-pressed hummingbird while sharing the belief that we become hummingbirds when we reach Ilhuicatl. Such a beautiful and meaningful sentiment. This wasn’t simply a tour where someone points out murals and tells you who painted them. It was an intimate look into the heart, soul, creativity, and cultural identity of Oaxaca, shared by someone who is genuinely passionate about preserving and celebrating it. I walked away with a much deeper appreciation for the artwork, the artists, and the stories these walls tell. If you appreciate art, culture, history, or simply want to experience Oaxaca beyond the typical tourist attractions, DO NOT MISS THIS TOUR! It was an absolute highlight of our trip, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you for sharing your talent, knowledge, passion, and beautiful city with us. This is an experience I will carry with me long after leaving Oaxaca! ❤️🎨

This tour was a great experience. Oaxaca has so much street art to see and appreciate. Sara is a wonderful tour guide. She even gave us the chance to create our own art piece. Do not miss this tour.
Sara was a wonderful guide on this amazing tour. Oaxaca is full of incredible street art and murals. She took so many great pictures of me with the murals (including her own) and had prepared a short craft activity as well. Please don’t skip out on this opportunity!
Our guide Sara was very passionate and provided extremely interesting context to all of the most impressive murals of which there are a ton! I honestly can’t say enough good things about this tour. If you’re a total dummy when it comes to interpreting art, don’t be afraid, Sara’s got you covered. You will feel like you have a PhD in Oaxacan street art and block printing by the time the tour is over.
Sara is an amazing tour guide! She explained all the art pieces and told us about the artists we saw on the tour. We had ample time to take pictures. She showed us places that I would not have thought to go to on my own. I highly recommend this tour! Thank you Sara!
What an incredible and unforgettable time we spent walking around Xochimilco and Jalatlaco neighborhoods with the kindest, most gifted and interesting artist and educator Sara. Her tour included sweet and thoughtful details, like her generous offer of agave and cicada linoleum cut outs, which we used to make beautiful prints on a quiet square. Her own murals are stunning and hearing her speak about these was an absolute highlight; we’ve even returned various times. We also enjoyed the visits she arranged with a local weaving family (with the 99 year old patriarch proudly receiving us) and tin artist family. Highly recommend!
Sara was an amazing guide, she spoke clearly and knowledgeably about the meaning of the artwork throughout town. She showed us a couple of her pieces as well as several of the more popular ones among Oaxacans. We loved experiencing this aspect of the city.
Our street our tour in Oaxaca with Sara was one of our favorite tours we have ever taken! It was the perfect amount of time to see tons of art throughout the city (including some of Sara’s own pieces, which was incredibly cool) and we got to discover neighborhoods we would not have otherwise found. We ended the tour at a cool artist co-op where we were able to purchase a few items from some of the artists we had seen on the tour. This tour was worth the price 10 times over and we would recommend it to anyone traveling to Oaxaca.
Sara was a fantastic guide for this experience being an artist herself. I learned so much more than if I just walked by myself. I even got to make some art. Sara also is from the neighborhood so she was able to layer on the history of the area. Thank you Sara for a great afternoon.
This was a very interesting walk through two neighborhoods in Oaxaca, both off the main tourist corridors, to learn about their many murals. The leader, Sara, is herself a local artist and very knowledgeable about the art and the larger historical and social contexts of the works (a few were works of her own). It’s also a great introduction to the two neighborhoods, Xochimilco and Jalatlaco, and their history and contemporary challenges. Highly recommended.
This tour was amazing. We absolutely loved the murals and art, but Sarah was what made the tour so great. She was so knowledgeable about the art, the artists, the meaning behind the murals, the culture, and the history. We stopped at a park and she even taught us how to block print. And we got to take ours home. It was an extra surprise to get to see some of her murals and block prints in the tour! Highly recommend this tour! We had a great time!
Sara was an amazing guide, hugely knowledgeable and passionate about Oaxaca and the art. Her own art is amazing and I would urge anyone to do this tour and see Oaxaca at its best
Great mural walk through Xochimilco including visit to tin and weaver workshops, and then the beautiful murals of Jalatlaco. Sara was accommodating, knowledgeable and very pleasant!
Sarah was delightful, interesting, and a brilliant artist! The tour was interesting, not too much walking, and there was a fun interactive activity illustrating a printing process.
Sara is a fantastically knowledgeable and personable guide as well as a talented local artist. She has a well planned itinerary that is flexible enough to include individual interests. I highly recommend this tour as an introduction to the artistic neighborhoods of Xochimilco and Jalatlaco.
What a great experience with Sara! Oaxaca is a wonderful place to see all kinds of beautiful street art and Sara led our group to see some of its finest - including her own contributions. She explained the background and symbolism to help you understand more about what you were looking at. We also really enjoyed the surprise hands on activity. Thanks Sara!
Fantastic guide. Lots of local history. Good introduction to Oaxaca and great art. Our guide spoke English well. We really enjoyed our tour.
This was wonderful tour. As an artist herself, our guide Sara Gubits is deeply connected with the Oaxaca artistic community, and tells rich stories about the muralists on the tour. We visited the Barrios of Jatatlaco and Xochimilco, saw murals in a wide variety of styles and media, and visited two workshops along the way as a bonus. We felt very connected to the scene, thanks to Sara’s open, friendly demeanour and willingness to share.
The guide was very informative about the history and meaning of street art. Her English was excellent. We did a little art creation activity that was fun.
We really enjoyed the tour interesting art, history and cultural perspectives were covered. Our guide was kind and attentive.
Authentic and articulate guide. Fantastic detail of the history and full range of art in terrific neighborhoods. Definitely a must do while in Oaxaca!
Great walking tour of two hours that goes into neighborhoods in Oaxaca that are known for having a variety of street art. The tour guide, who is also an artist, was very knowledgeable and I learned a lot about what the different murals represent. I highly recommend the tour
Our guide Sarah was very knowledgeable, her English was excellent, the neighborhoods very off-the-beaten-path. Overall, her tour was very interesting and I would recommend it.
Sara was a wonderfully informative guide who was able to give us insight into the stories behind each mural and even shared a few of her own in the two neighborhoods we visited . There are lots of them and each one is better than the next! Fabulous tour!
Great tour! Loved the art but I also loved seeing a couple of the neighborhoods out of the Centro. The guide is wonderful!
Loved this experience! We learned so much about Oaxacan art and culture, and Sara is a great guide. We are so glad we did this and highly recommend it. You’ll see incredible murals, understand some key iconography of Oaxaca, and explore some neighborhoods you might otherwise skip. Don’t miss it.
We loved this tour! Our guide, Sara, took us on a great walking tour of a neighborhood filled with beautiful, creative murals, in a neighborhood we may not have discovered on our own. These murals are all recent, since the pandemic. She explained the cultural symbolism and political meaning of the murals. Then she showed us several that she herself had painted. Sara was fun and friendly and let us detour for a chocolate shop. The tour ends in a famous graphic art collective called Subterraneo where you can buy prints, but no pressure to buy.
We loved this tour. Sara was a delightful guide --and artist -- who shared her thorough knowledge of the graphic arts scene in Oaxaca, as well as neighborhood history. The well-designed tour introduced us to two neighborhoods beyond centro, included a nice mid-point break (with a mini art activity), and ended in a working art collective. Highly recommended.
Fabulous tour with street artist herself sharing insights and Oaxaca culture to murals around town. Hands on experience of ink blocking as well!
Great tour, nice and knowledgeable host. The itineary corresponds to the description. Artists' shop available at the end.
I booked, and was very much looking forward to this tour, through Viator. I had to clear that time frame (tour was supposed to be 4-6pm). I walked there from City Centre - about 20 minutes each way. I arrived approx 5 minutes prior. There was no one in sight at meeting location. I went inside of cafe the meeting was supposed to be in front of and confirmed address. I tried messaging the operator of tour at approx 4:10pm with no response. I then contacted Viator confirming my location with photo of cafe. They contacted tour guide which did respond to them saying "they appologize, but they never saw my booking." Sure. They offered another day, but I was busy and leaving so was refunded. It appears (my investigation) they need at least 2 people to book for them show up for this, and I was the only one.
Sara was delightful and had a lot of knowledge about the street art of Oaxaca. She is an excellent tour guide and artist. I highly recommend taking a tour with her.
Absolutely loved the street art tour in Oaxaca. Walking the city brought the murals to life in a whole new way - full of history, culture and meaning, insightful. inspiring, and a must do experience.
The street art tour was amazing! My guide Sarah was great. I'm actually not that into street art or murals myself, but in Oaxaca it's such a rich part of the culture that you have to check it out! I also got to explore the artsy neighborhoods I otherwise wouldn't have like the areas north of Centro and Jalatlaco. I took some great pics. Definitely schedule this tour if you can!
Sara is very good! She is very knowledgeable about the stories behind the murals. I really enjoyed the trip today
Such a lovely tour. A kind and knowledgeable guide! Could have gone for a few more hours. It was well-paced and she always had time for questions.
Sara provided an excellent tour, we would definitely recommend booking with her. You also get to see some of her artwork!
We really enjoyed this tour. Sara is very knowledgeable and passionate about art, as well as being a talented artist herself. Her explanations of the stories and history behind the art was really interesting and we visited parts of Oaxaca that we probably wouldn’t have found on our own. The pace of the tour was just right. We have loads of fantastic photos of the amazing art. I would also recommend Sara’s Street Food and Market Tour which was also amazing.
We had a great time and learned a lot. We appreciated our guide so much - we had a rainstorm roll in while we were on the tour and she just rolled with the punches. We went to a cafe to talk further and then continued on when the weather cleared. Would recommend to anyone.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable. Provided hands on experience and connections to local artists. I walked away with a great appreciation for the craft and culture of the beautiful art seen in the Oaxacan streets.
This was such a great way to explore neighborhoods around Oaxaca and learn about and experience local artists. Sara was friendly and very knowledgable, and she's an artist herself! It was really awesome to see her work.
Had such a great experience here. Sara was our guide and she was awesome! Super friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the art and artists that represent Oaxaca. We walked around two different neighborhoods and discussed a variety of murals. She went in depth about their significance, especially many of the murals which have political and cultural messages. I feel like I really got to understand more about the culture of this town and the current issues that Oaxacas people face, politically, socially and environmentally. We ended the tour at a workshop where some of our guides pieces are displayed. It was super special. The group size was about 7 people so it wasn’t too big. Definitely recommend! Also a great way to familiarize yourself with the city ◡̈
The tour was fantastic. Sara was a brilliant tour guide. Very knowledgeable and gave us a great education about local art. The pace was suitable to our groups wide range of fitness levels. The workshop at the end of the tour was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this tour.
Insightful tour of the street art in two neighbourhoods by a knowledgeable and congenial artist, Sara. Nice introduction, in general, to both neighbourhoods. Also enjoyed seeing artists at work in workshop at the end of the tour.
The guide was great—passionate and knowledgeable and directed us to hidden streets and workshops. She connected the art to history and values and symbols of indigenous people and modern artists. Terrific experience.
It's a trip through a fun neighborhood with a wonderful artist guide. You'll see beautiful community art.
This walking tour was excellent. Our guide was a working artist whose work we were able to see her work. Loved everything about this experience.
This was an incredible experience where we learned the meaning and significance behind the beautiful works of art and murals that we saw. Learned a lot about history and the beautiful culture and spirituality of the Oaxacan people. Sarah was an amazing guide who deeply cares about the Oaxcan people. It was very special to see the beautiful works of art that she created. I am looking forward to coming back with my adult children to share this experience with them.
Sara was a fantastic guide and artist. She took me throughout the city to show me types of public art and talk about social/cultural constructs associated with each.
Great walking tour to not only learn about the street art but to also learn about the culture and history as well.
