Great trip! Santiago and our driver were awesome. Group of 6 total, which is a nice small group. The artisinal bakery stop was interesting and we had an amazing tamale. Hierve el Agua is stunning. It was too cool to swim, but the hike was gorgeous. Then a really fun and tasty authentic mezcal distillery tour and tasting. A great day!
An unbelievable experience and one I would highly recommend when visiting Oaxaca. This tour ran incredibly smoothly and our guide was awesome! Thanks Keren!
I do not appreciate the lack of transparency in the tour description. However, I want to mention that our guide was really kind; well intentioned and the driver very professional. The guide even bought a bottle of mezcal for the group to have all a shot. Firstly the group was not small. We were 18 persons and we merged with other 2 groups to multiple attractions The bread tasting is a scam. A place with hundreds of people and bread broken from a package. In Oaxaca there are a lot of super good bakeries and coffee shops. We could have just stopped to one of them instead. The guide was however super nice and to Aqua del Hierve he explained us the way to do the hiking/ walk around by ourselves. Beautiful scenery. The water was a bit chill. Lunch it is a self service with other of hundred of people around. It was interesting seeing the plantation of mezcal and the guide provided really good information about the production process. We had 12 small tasting, but half were mainly sweet mixtures. I belive it was a very commercial tour and I would have preffered transparency regarding no of people . I would have chosen something only with Aqua de Hierve and the mezcal tasting.
We had such a great experience on this tour, Hierve el Agua was beautiful and the mezcal tasting was informative and fun. Thanks for the day trip!
Small group (just my husband and I with one other couple) led by Santiago on a great tour! He shared some history while on our drive and was very passionate and kind. Loved each step of the tour and recommend it as a good way to get out of the city and see multiple sites
Amazing place to visit. The hike is a bit strenuous but only adds to a wonderful experience. Santiago, our tour guide, was so attentive and accommodating. Great value, great experience, highly recommend. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen.
This experience was magical! Expanding my experience of Oaxaca to some really magical nature, a hilarious mezcal tasting & beyond. Santiago & Luis were truly what made the whole trip for me. I mentioned wanting to see the Tule Tree, & as a surprise, they took us there at the end. The guides were one of a kind — ask for them if you’re doing an experience like this!! PS - the hike was long and hard. If you just want to swim in the water, you won’t regret it ;)
We had a great day ! Our tour guide, Santiago, was punctual picking us up from the meeting point in Oaxaca and was so kind. He gave us explanations of interesting landmarks along the way and in the stops of the tour. He was also very flexible with us and allowed us to enjoy our time fully. We really enjoyed him as a tour guide. He friendliness and attention to each individual guest on the tour really made us feel like we were receiving a 5 star experience! Another plus was the mezcalería. The owner, Mr. Tino, was very knowledgeable, kind, and fun. We were so pleasantly surprised about the entire tour experience and would definitely repeat the tour with Santiago.
This tour was beyond amazing in every way possible. Unlike other tours, this one was not rushed at all and we were even taken to some other fantastic places as an added bonus and had only one other great couple with us to share our adventures with. Our guide, Santiago was an absolute gem. He spoke English incredibly well and shared his vast knowledge in history of the area throughout the tour. He made sure to get us to Hierve el Agua while it was not overly busy and let us take our time hiking around to see all the incredible views while still getting ample time to soak in the ever refreshing pools. Our afternoon lunch break took us to an authentic Oaxacan buffet which had endless items to try, most of which were absolutely amazing. The mezcal tour exceeded all expectations as well; very informative and we were able to taste so many different types without getting any pressure at all for purchasing some of their delicious products. A shout out is also necessary to our driver, Louis, who was very patient while waiting for us at all our stops and ensuring that we made it back to our starting point safe and sound. If I could give this tour an 11 out of 10 I would do so without any hesitation!

The whole day was perfect from start to finish. Santiago was so interesting and managed the day perfectly. We had plenty of time at Hierve de Agua to do a hike + swim in the natural pools. The place we went for food in between was delicious with lots of vegetarian options too! The Mezcal distillery was so enjoyable, everything was explained well and we got to taste so many different types of mezcal. Highly recommend this day out for anyone in Oaxaca :)
We had a fantastic day seeing Hierve el Agua and tasting many many mezcals. Santiago was a very knowledgeable guide and made the day fun and relaxed. I highly recommend this tour.
The trip was exceptional. We would give 10 stars if we could. Santiago, and his trainee, Annie were extremely informative. Louis, the driver was great also. We always felt safe with him. Everyone should go on this tour! We had a blast!
We had the best time on this tour! Our guides were so incredibly knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time to explore and enjoy the tour. Everything was so easily organised and comfortable. We would 100% come back and do this same tour in Oaxaca as we had the best time !
Santiago was a lovely, fun and knowledgeable tour guide. I would very much recommend him and this tour. The pools were great as was the mezcal tasting!
With a group of young girls Santiago was the best tour guide, he made us feel comfortable and educated us on a few cool historical facts. Asell as gave us clear instructions on getting to hierve el agua. Was the best experience and albaro the driver made us feel safe on the driver there and back! I would recommend this tour to anyone :)
Hierve el Agua was spectacular and the day produced some of our trip’s most dramatic photographs. The walk down to the bottom is steep and, though not long, the walk up requires a decent level of fitness. Sergio was an excellent guide: knowledgeable, friendly, and focused on our interests. We had a fun day.
What an amazing experience! Tour bus with ac and stop at an artisanal Oaxacan bakery. Then on to Hierve. We hiked to the bottom-which was quite a trek-almost 4 miles(?) back to the top to the pools. Took about an hour and then spent time cooling in the pools-not too crowded-and then went thru the markets to get a much needed snack. Take good hiking shoes, hat, sunblock and plenty of water. The trek back up to the falls is quite vertical. We had the option to just stay at pools or hike but we wanted the whole experience! Met back with our guide and headed to a local restaurant for a buffet style meal, then a quick bus ride to the mezcal distillery where we tasted many different mezcal types. Santiago was very friendly and informative about the area and culture as well as mezcal. Our driver Saul kept us safe and cool! Thank you so much for an amazing tour!
Such a fun time! I went with my 11 tear old son and we had a blast! The tour guide and driver were so sweet and fun and had lots of good info to share with the group without going overboard on chatter haha. Highly recommend!!!
This was an excellent tour. Our guide Santiago and our driver Juan were both professional & friendly, making sure that we got from each destination safely & without delay. Santiago also took the time to explain relevant cultural & historical context for the sights we passed during the drive, & made sure ti point out interesting features such as the Yagul cave painting. As vegans we didn’t expect the bakery to have any options for us, but Santiago went out of his way to make sure we knew what foods & drinks we could enjoy at each stop, including the little pieces of chocolate that he handed out as a welcome gift. We also had plenty of time to enjoy Hierve el Agua ( including a self-directed hike to several viewpoints as well as some time in the pools), a leisurely lunch, & many tastings of mezcal during the tour—& even made it back to Oaxaca in time to freshen up for dinner. A perfect day & highly recommended for anyone interested in a good outing during their Oaxaca visit..
Santiago was an amazing friendly tour guide, was always open to feedback from the group. He started the trip by giving us each a piece of chocolate that his mother (I believe he said?) made which was so sweet and personal! We loved that! Easy meeting spot, bus ride felt like an hour but wasn’t notified of two stops before the hot springs- wish we knew that we’d be stopping at an arboretum and bread shop because it added a bit of time to the expected duration of the trip. The hot springs were an easy trail downhill and they were a little crowded (and the water was actually a bit chilly!) but otherwise what I expected based on other peoples tips. The mezcal stop was close to the hot springs and we also tried a wide variety of flavors which was nice, then about an hour long bus ride back to our starting point.
Santiago was an amazing tour guide! Lots of fun and felt very safe! The trip was very varied with stops along the way. It was a great day! Would highly recommend!
Santiago our guide & Saul our driver were very attentive during the entire tour. Santiago made sure we were not only comfortable but content with all of our activities. Our group size was small & drive very comfortable.
Our whole group really enjoyed our tour! Getting to sample the local flavors at a bakery and Mezcal distillery was fun and a cool way to connect to the gracious community. I couldn’t recommend our guide, Salvador enough; he answered all of our questions and was a fun conduit for trying mezcal. We felt that we were in safe hands with our driver, Alvarado as well.
Santiago and Álvaro were great! Santiago is very knowledgeable about the area and our trip to hierve el agua was so great and memorable. The mezcalería distillery was a wonderful learning experience and the mezcal was top notch. We got to learn a lot and see quite a bit in just 8 hours. A must do for anyone coming to Oaxaca.
Santiago our tour guide and our driver were great! He was really knowledgeable and made the tour fun. I really appreciated the small size of our group.
This "tour" was really just transport to and from Hierve el Agua. I expected our guide to accompany us to through the site and share relevant information while there. That was not the case. We were dropped off at the entrance and instructed to meet back there within a couple of hours. After our time at Hierve el Agua we made our way to the mezcal distillery which was a huge disappointment. Their partner at the distillery was not available so we didn't get to learn about the mezcal-making process. After a quick walk through the facilities we got to try a few of their mezcal offerings.
Karen made the whole trip relaxing, enjoyable, and informative. It was great to travel in a small group instead of a tour van. The time line of this trip was good too. The stop on the way to learn about and taste bread in Tlacolula broke up the trip well. Hierve el Aquas is beautiful so I appreciated having 3 hours there which was plenty of time to hike, swim, and eat. The Mezcal tour on the return trip was interesting especially because we got to see the different types of agave growing in the fields. The itinerary was well planned and I was grateful to return to El Centro before 5pm. Overall it was a very Oaxacool Trip!
Karen was an amazing guide - from sharing a cafe de hoya in the morning, all through the tour. The time was sufficient to do a short hike, and jump in the water if you wanted to. The mezcal tasting was perfect!
This was such a great day. The weather cooperated and Hierve del Agua was gorgeous. The mezcal tour was really fun. It was great to be in a small group and Adriel the tour guide was fantastic. He shared so much about the region and people and history. (The drive whose name I forgot was also a super nice person.). Definitely a highlight and recommend if you visit Oaxaca.
We had so much fun hanging out at Hierve el Agua. Our daughter loved it! Our tour guard was so knowledgeable of the history of the area and was so accommodating.
Kerenn and Guillermo were amazing. They gave us a great tour and history of Mexico. We had so much fun and love Oaxaca even more after the tour. Fully recommend this to anyone traveling to Oaxaca soon!!
The trip was a good length, we were a small group of 4 which was nice, maybe didn't need 3 hours at hierve el agua but no complaints.
My partner and i did this tour yesterday. There were three more persons on the tour. The booking process was a little bit of a hassle at first because in the beginning there weren't enough bookings (just us 2), so the tour got cancelled the day before. On the next morning luckily oaxacool tours texted me if we were still up for the tour because 3 more bookings came in. Our tour guide Adriel and our driver Betto made sure we have a great tour. Adriel was the perfect guide for our tour. He started the tour explaining us a little bit about the current ongoing teachers demonstration. Also he dropped lot of infornations about Mexico as well. After that he showed us around the bakery, drove us to the waterfall and at last to the mezcal tasting. Our group had lots of fun with him. On the way back we even had a discussion about music because the whole group liked the same music. Really cool. Would recommend Adriel as a guide to anyone!
Once in a life time experience. Loved the cold springs and our guide was so down to earth and knowledgeable!
Shout out to Adriel for being a fantastic guide and host. Mezcal tasting experience is great and you have plenty of time to enjoy the petrified waterfalls
Amazing experience! I am not a huge fan of tours but we really wanted to go to Hierva Agua so we got this your because it gave us more time there. Adriel made our entire experience worth while! What an incredible guide. If you are wondering if this excursion is worth it, the answer is yes look no further. We had an incredible group with the best guide who made us feel like old friends.
The best tour we ever had! The tour is very well thought through. The tour guide Adriel and driver Obev (if we spelt correctly) were great! We learnt a lot of Oaxaca history and lifestyles of locals. Tours itinerary and tour guides as well as the drivers, of course also the vehicles are all so important. They were spot on for everything. There were only 5 of us in a vehicles with them both. The lunch spot was well thought through too. It wasn't any random spot but we get to try every local delicacies like mole, enchilladas and so on. We had a good time. This tour is the highlight of our entire trip. That said, 2 hrs at Hierve Al Agua may be insufficient for some people who want to dip in pools alongside with hiking to bottom of the waterfall. We didnt do either and time was just right. There was option of 3 hours though so it could be fine.
Honestly, our guide Avriel made the trip amazing with interesting and unique information on history and culture; he and Guillermo, our driver, made our time valuable and pleasant. Of course, the views of Agua el Hierve were spectacular and the mezcal distillery and tasting far more interesting and fun than I’d hoped. 10/10 recommend!!
We had the best day with Adriel as our guide, and Jorge our driver. We were a small group of just 6, which worked so well for the day. Adriel had an incredible amount of knowledge to share with us - his passion for history and learning is infectious. An absolute must do - thank you so much Adriel and Jorge for making it such a great day.
Weather was very hot. Inclesr instructions where to leave bags, no pesos for restrooms. Ok but not great. Guide was vey knowledgeable.
the tour guide was cool and understanding. accommodated everyone’s needs. great people. i’m not writing 100 words tho.
What an amazing experience from start to finish. Our tour guide Adriel was so knowledgeable, and very professional. We have learned so much about Oaxaca, the surrounding towns and the Mexican culture. The bread was delicious at the artisan bakery, accompanied by a briefing. We arrived at Hierve el Agua, and it wasn't crowded so we enjoyed the hike, swim, views, and petrified waterfalls. It was absolutely stunning. We finished in the Mezcal factory, and the drink was high quality and delicious. The small group size made such a difference, and great value for money. Keep doing what you do, it was brilliant.
The trip was very informative and our tour guide Adriel was excellent. Adriel was extremely helpful and went above and beyond of what was expected of the tour.
We had such a fun time. Our guide was so knowledgeable about the area and I really enjoyed listening to the stories and legends on the drive to Hierve el agua where the views are amazing. There were 4 of us in total on the trip. I recommend for hierve el agua to wearing swim wear underneath clothes and wearing trainers for the walk. We found it easy enough to find the waterfall and had enough time at the pools. I’d take flip flops in your bag and a towel as the ground gets very hot on the feet walking between the pools - I couldn’t be bothered putting trainers back on in between. There are changing rooms there. Afterwards we sat down for a beer and some fresh fruit. We headed on to the Mezcal tour and learned a lot about the process. The sampling was so much fun, I asked for smaller measurements and I’m glad I did as there is quite a selection to sample (recommend a large breakfast before you go!) and I know I’m a lightweight! We ended up going for drinks and food with the two other ladies in the group after.
the whole day was great our guide adreil knew the area very well, many stops lots of history, i would highly recommend the local tour guides iat hievre (now)they work for tips they know
Great small group tour with a total of 7 guests, in a comfortable air-conditioned van. Excellent service by the team on WhatsApp prior to the tour, and Adriel the guide provided a lot of information on Oaxaca, the culture and history. The Hierve al Agua was pretty with several instragram spots if you bring your swimsuit. Good amount of time to enjoy and laze around before heading off to the mezcal distillery, where we learnt about the different agave and sampled 10 different types. Overall a fun day spent learning about Oaxaca and its people and practices.
Fantastic tour!! Small group, we got 4 people. It was so fun! Our guide Adriel was fantastic! So full of knowledge and very kind and fun! We hiked down to the the bottom of the falls and then found our way back. Lunch was delicious and the Mescal Tasting was EXCEPTIONAL! so nice to be taken into a local distillery and be able to meet the makers. Highly recommend!
Great experience, knowledgable and passionate guide. The day wasn’t too long and flowed nicely. Hierve el Agua was the highlight, amazing day!
