Fernando was a great guide. Native to the area and really explained the history well. He answered any questions we had and kept the pace reasonable and not too fast or slow. For Monte Alban, I would strongly recommend hiring a guide because unless you know Monte Alban really well, you're going to be staring at ruins without context.
Fernando was a wonderful guide! His knowledge of Monte Alban was amazing and he gave us such great insight to the culture and history of the location. Great experience with Fernando! Ahead of the pick up he was communicative via I text and even arrived early for our pick up for the half day tour. Fernando’s English was excellent and gave us an in-depth tour of Monte Alban and answered all the many questions we had about the site and more. I’d definitely recommend him for future tours. Monte Alban is spectacular! We chose a private tour because the history of the site is complicated and wanted a more in-depth guide experience to better understand the history and archeology of the site. Our guide Fernando was outstanding and he was expert in all things Monte Alban. He was patient with all of our questions and led a well paced tour based on our interests. Pickup at our private accommodations was on time and he was an excellent guide/driver with perfect English skills and great preteip communication via the app. This was one of the highlights of our trip. General advice- go early in the morning before it gets too hot, take water and wear sturdy shoes.
Excellent tour guide (in English) for a family of 8 including 2 kids under 5 and four grandparents, one with mobility issues. The guide provided a clear and detailed history and framing so we understood the origins of the ruins in the broader context of Mexican history. The guide provided walking options for the kids and the grandparent with mobility issues. Would recommend this private tour over and over again.

Fernando is fantastic!! Highly recommended. He grew up nearby so he's been coming to Monte Alban since he was a child. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Oaxaca and it's history. There wasn't one question I asked that didn't open up a well of knowledge inside him. And even you don't care so much about history, Fernando knows all the best picture views (and is happy to snap them!) Plus he's super nice, with a lot of patience.

We really enjoyed our trip to Monte Alban. The history and ruins were much more impressive than we anticipated and our guide was very knowledgeable! Definitely bring sunscreen, water and a hat! There is very little shade and numerous precarious steps, but worth it!
One of the best archeological tours we have had. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, pick up was right on time, we went straight to the site. Everything was planned so we didn’t have to fight crowds. There was no pushing to buy souvenirs, stopping at mandatory for tours like that stores. It was just a tour of the ruins with detailed explanation of everything we were seeing.
Fernando picked us up right on time in a pristine and spacious SUV. On the way, he shared history and knowledge about Oaxaca. His credentials allowed us to park close to the site. Fernando is an enthusiastic guide who is an expert on Monte Alban. His English is excellent. I’m only sorry that we didn’t book other tours with him during our stay.
