The tour started early before crowds and we left before it was too hot. The tour guide was amazing - funny and knowledgeable.

Really great tour! Very well organized and Miguel was an absolutely fantastic guide. He's very knowledgeable and passionate, he was happy to answer all of our questions. I really recommend taking this tour instead of going alone as it gives you so much background about the ancient cultures.
Perfect tour. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. the tour was just the right duration. Two bits of advice, and neither relates to anything within the control of the tour company: first, bring enough cash to pay for your entry ticket. There are machines at which you can use a credit card, but they were broken on the day of our tour. The entry fee is $210 MEX per person. Second, although the park closes at 5:00, in theory, it really closes when the guards decide it does, which on the day or four tour was before 4:30. So, when you are released by your guide to explore on your own, go to the far end of the city and work your way back, which is exactly what our guide suggested. You will have plenty of time, even if the guards chase you off early, but don't dawdle at the beginning of your free time.
A great way to see this site and well priced . Well organised for the amount of tours going there . Would tecommend
Great experience, great price and a super knowledgeable and engaging guide. You can’t really go wrong with this.
I have been on many tours and this was one of the best ever. Miguel was a fantastic guide - very knowledgeable, a great storyteller, engaging and interesting. The tour was about 2 hours long and we stopped often so that it wasn't tiring for those who might struggle with a bit of climbing. There was time at the end to explore more before meeting back at the bus. I highly recommend this tour. We could have wandered around on our own but we would not have learned much about the history.
A wonderful experience, much more interesting than I had anticipated. The scale is awesome inspiring. Our guide Miguel was fabulous. My only 2 suggestions are to include admission or, as our guide eventually did, arrange for group ticket price as the entry to site was a little chaotic with card machines not working. Remember, cash is king. Also, there were 3 members of our party who were deaf and so some printed summaries of our guide Miguel’s commentary would have allowed them a more informed experience.
This was one of the most amazing magical places I have ever been! Our guide was incredible and I learned so much. Weeks later I am still pondering what I learned. It would be a shame if you went to Oaxaca and did not go here.
This is a ‘must do’ experience. Only about 20-30 minutes from Oaxaca. I’m not site if we were particularly lucky, but our (English-speaking) guide, Miguel, was just incredible! He was knowledgeable, passionate and very funny. We were a large group but he wrangled us all, and kept us all completely attentive and fascinated. Monte Alban was incredible and I feel privileged to have been able to visit.
It's breathtakingly beautiful. We got so lucky because our guide turned out to be an archeologist who worked at Monte Alban and other surrounding archeological sights. We wouldn't have known either, if it wasn't for one of the other guides who pointed it out. The visit was informative and it didn't feel rushed. I felt like I was able to truly take in what we were being told with plenty of opportunities for questions.
Excellent experience. Well worth doing. Miguel was very informative, talking not only about the history but also the varied flora around us.
We booked this tour and were so pleased we did. Our tour guide had a knowledge of the ruins that was so impressive. He has a passion for the history of his people and we could feel it in his presentations. We learned a ton and loved every minute. My suggestions would be to book the early tour. We did 8 am. It was not very busy at this time of day and not so hot. It warms up quickly after that tour. When we returned to the bus at our agreed upon time, The parking lot was packed. Also some sunscreen and a hat would be good.
Our tour with Miguel was amazing. His knowledge of the area, its history and the civilization was impressive. Also his extensive knowledge of other similar civilizations around the world lent valuable context to what he told us. The history of Mexico and of the Zapotec is fascinating, and he brought it alive for us. We have taken a lot of tours in many parts of the world and this was certainly one of the best. Thank you Miguel.
The tour guide is great and knows a lot about the history! They also give you time to explore and try different things and give you great tips about the site!
Interesting excursion to see the pyramids. Our tour guide was excellent and super knowledgeable. I would say if you’ve previously been to see other great pyramids like Tikal, that Monte Albán is not a “must see”, but if you have the time it was an interesting way to learn about local ancient culture.
Fantastic tour. Our tour guide Miguel made it even better. He was so knowledgeable and funny. Highly recommend this tour of this magnificent place.
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. The whole experience could not have been better, absolutely worth it!
Miguel was incredibly knowledgeable, a great story teller and really made this experience great. He not only showed us the place but allowed me to get a sense for what it might have been like to be here 1000 years ago. Highly recommend.
Miguel gave us a wonderful tour, and helped us both understand the history of the Zapotecs as well as making through lines to the current times. It was also great to have our own time to explore and hike the pyramid.
Incredible guide (Miguel), was an incredible storyteller and communicator. Incredible history and location.
Our tour guide was very informative and the experience was just the right amount of time. Highly recommend!
Miguel was a great host who was engaging and very knowledgeable. 8am start was great to beat the crowds. 30 minute drive to site from Oaxaca, 2 hours guided tour and then 1 hour free time to roam. Back by approx 12.30pm
Guide was informative and had a great personality. Plus the views from the pyramids were fantastic, better than the ones outside Mexico City.
The guide was extensively knowledgeable about the history of the site, including prehispanic and posthispanic developments.
We enjoyed the tour. Miguel was an excellent guide. Would recommend this tour and Miguel.
Miguel makes this tour worthwhile. He is so passionate about sharing his knowledge. Monte Albán came to life through his stories and explanations, and I learned so much. My only gripe is that the address on the ticket is not where the group actually meets, so everyone was lost and arrived late. Tour is well worth it tho. Love that it's only a half day. I recommend the afternoon for no crowds!!
Fun, informative, and interesting experience with guide Miguel. One thing to be aware of, though, is that they asked for $210 MXD cash per person for entrance fees after everyone had gotten on the bus. Seems like that should be included in the pre-pay and notes. Lastly, not a critique of the company, but I wish I had set aside more than the 4-hour/half day trip for Monte Albán.
Transportation was easy and comfortable. And our guide at Monte Albán was outstanding! This was a highlight of our trip to Oaxaca.
We had another guide have to cancel our original tour, so thankfully, we were able to book this one last minute. Our guide was very smart and knowledgeable. He Cf presented the information well and was easily able to answer everyone’s questions. I enjoyed the bit of free time before leaving Monte Albán.
Our guide Miguel was great! Super knowledgeable, funny, and engaging. Our driver was also safe and efficient, and I liked that the tour started quite early in the morning - we were the first group at Monte Alban!
Bring water, wear sturdy shoes and bring a hat. It can be quite hot although we had comfortable weather. There is a ruin you can climb up on to see an amazing view but it’s steep and uneven. There’s a rail on one side which can provide some security. This is an incredible site but you need a guide to explain the history. I suggest visiting the museum of cultural events at the temple de Santo Domingo in Oaxaca either before or after because of the discovery of tomb #7 which was filled with incredible artifacts. Our guide, Miguel, was very knowledgeable and informative. Answered all our questions and some. Great tour experience.
We went on this tour with our two-year-old and they were very accommodating. There was some confusion with the meeting point because of the multi-day protests at the Zocalo, and while we were fine with taking a later shuttle the attendant was very helpful and got us on the earlier shuttle. the tour itself was very interesting - Miguel explained much about the Zapotec and their fascinating and gruesome history/culture/lifestyle and the whole group was very accommodating of our toddler. Reaching the first summit and having a view of the entire archeological site is breathtaking and completely worth the short trip out of the city.
Wear walking shoes and trek amongst these ancient wonders A spectacular day I'll never forget Our guide Miguel made it extra special with his passion and knowledge
Truly a highlight of any tour even if you're a casual history buff. The best part was that it started much earlier than most tours, which meant I got to walk up and down the pyramids and take in all the site had to offer before the big groups showed up. The 2 hours allowed to freely explore was more than enough. Just bring some comfy walking shoes, a jacket or hoodie (it does get a bit cold because of the high altitude), and an umbrella (it drizzled a bit towards the end of the tour).
The Monte Albán excursion was great! Our guide Miguel was excellent, I learnt so much about the history of the Zapotec civilisation, his knowledge was exceptional!
The experience was great. Our guide was great - good commentary and helped me down the stairs. We arrived early which was great - it was hot! Meet up point is not clear - got lost several times and found 2 others waiting in the wrong spot.
Miguel our guide made this a very informative and interesting tour. He was a very skilled and relaxed speaker with a wide range of knowledge about the ancient civilization we were visiting and how it was import and related to our modern society. I enjoyed the tour, the information, and the visit
We had a great tour with Miguel. You need to make sure you he’s your local guide. So much knowledge on the area and Monte Alban and this history. He’s got a gear sense of humour and we loved the trip.
Well organized tour and well paced. Miguel was a fantastic tour guide - very informative, good sense of humor and open to answering questions.
Very knowledgeable guide Miguel! The tour was well organized including the transfer. You had a flexibility to stay longer or leave earlier thanks to shuttle buses
Monte Alban is incredible and beautiful!! We went in September so it was a lot cooler than previous months and there weren’t as many people. Our tour guide, Miguel, was incredible. He carefully took us through the ruins and gave us the history and details of each part which was fascinating. He is a fantastic tour guide and by the end we still had a little over an hour to explore the ruins ourselves and check out the monte Alban museum. I would note to make sure to wear and bring sunscreen because the ruins reflect a lot of sunlight.
More interesting and extensive than i expected. Hope you get Miguel as your guide since he was highly informative on history and culture— important. Suggest going to room III of the Oaxaca Museo de las Culturas beforehand. Ascending pyramids not difficult due to wide steps.
You have to do this! The tour guide was incredible and answered all of my questions. After the tour, you have time to roam around, visit the museum, and grab a bite to eat. This place was unlike anything I've ever seen. If you love history and learning- this is a must.
Nice experience, close to town so we didn’t have to ride so long to get there. Knowledgeable guide, amazing to be there in the ancient site.
Totally worth it! Learned so much outside of the plaques and just the added context made the experience and visit so much more valuable. Miguel was a great storyteller and really knew his stuff. Other reviews that mention doing this prior to the museum were spot on! Def save the museum visit for after so you have more appreciation and knowledge of what all you’re seeing.
Our guide Ricardo was extremely well-informed and gave us a fascinating window into the world of the Zapotec people. We highly recommend the tour and the guide.
Miguel was the best guide any of us has ever had on our tours around the world. He was deeply interested and interesting in the evolution of humankind. This was our third time to Monte Alban for two of us and Miguel rocked.
Excellent guide. All very well organised and a 1/2 day tour is just perfect time. Not rootless and not too much. Monte Alban is a must see when in Oaxaca.
Tour guide was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of the history of Monte Alban with us, but also about Oaxaca. Monte Alban is super beautiful and definitely worth the visit!
Amazing history. And probably the best guide I have ever had for a historical tour. Really enjoyed the whole experience.
