We went on a sunrise tour. Met our guide at 5:45 and drove about 30 minutes to launching site. It was just my husband and I and our wonderful guide Juan Carlos. Took a short boat ride to get to the kayaks. We basically had the lagoon and mangrove to ourselves except for the multitudes of birds and occasional iguana. Paddled around for a few hours and learned about the ecosystem and took lots of photos. Capped off the morning with a beachfront Oaxacan breakfast. Totally recommend this company. A bit more expensive than some- but well planned experience that was essentially a private tour and excellent guide.

Itinerary
We will be going on an amazing kayaking, birdwatching and sunrise adventure! Pick up will be early morning at 7:00 am. Once picked up we will be driving for 25 min North to the lagoon of Puerto Suelo. Here we will do a crossing on a small panga boat to reach the Ocean Side, an absolutely breathtaking view. From here we will board our kayaks to start our adventure throughout the lagoon to observe a variety of endemic and migratory bids,(depending on the season we will be able to see from rosetta spoonbills, herons, hawks, parrots, aningas, pelicans, king fisherman, storks, and many more), after going along the mangrove tunnels we will head up river to enjoy the breathaking views that the ocean and mainland have to offer. We will continue throughout the river until we reach the sandbar and return back to the kayaking dock.

This was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it to anyone that appreciates natural beauty and doesn't mind waking up early on vacation! I will never forget seeing the sun rise on the lagoon as the birds floated overhead. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, and we even enjoyed coffee while kayaking! I think we were out on the water for around two hours, but honestly my partner and I were so immersed that only the sunrise marked the passage of time. When we went there was one other tourist joining us in addition to the guide. Lunch on the beach after was also splendid. Really a breathtaking experience that I would gladly do again.
It was amazing, efrain was an amazing guide and brought us to this small location, where the 3 of us (my girlfriend me and Efrain) took off in our kayaks. The view was nothing like I ever seen before. Beautiful birds everywhere. An other comment said it reminded them of jurassic Park and I can only agree. What an amazing experience, I would recommend it to everyone.
Absolutely stunning scenery. Like being dropped in a prehistoric lagoon. I was ready for a giraffe or dinosaur to appear.
This was a magical experience and a highlight of our time in Mexico! We did the 6am trip and saw loads of local birds and fauna in calm and beautiful surroundings. It was really interesting to learn about the mangroves and our guide, Mario, was helpful, informative and friendly. There was an opportunity to get a snack and some coffee before we got into the kayaks.
This was the highlight of our whole trip to Oaxaca. Mario picked us up from our hostel and drove us through beautiful farmland, telling us about some of the challenges regarding tourism-driven development, environmental protection, and water management along the way. We arrived at a riverbank, where we were ferried across to a magical sandy peninsula between the ocean and the river. After a short walk, we boarded kayaks and paddled up the river (no current) to the lagoon. The kayaking required virtually no skill or prior experience (just be prepared to get a little wet from paddle drip). It was like being in Jurassic Park. We’ve done a lot of kayaking in coastal areas, but this was beyond anything we had experienced. The beauty of the mountains in the distance, the lush forest, the winding channels through the mangroves, and above all the absurd profusion of birds, left us awestruck (even the sometimes surly teenager). We saw many bird species we had never seen before. And even familiar ones we saw more up-close than ever before. Mario was an expert on local wildlife, and guided us gently through the lagoon, never rushing us. After returning, we watched the sunset from a palapa on the seashore while drinking from coconuts. This is a very special experience, and I hope that this place remains wild and free forever. Mario was prepared with everything and his personal stories really added to the experience.
Private tour of the mangroves with Mario. Such a beautiful spot. We saw a good amount of wildlife. My partner was not really into birds but he loved it. The breakfast was delicious. It was a privilege to visit Puerto Suelo and their charming community.
Excellent experience! Our tour guide Antonio was pleasant and full of knowledge. He made our experience absolutely memorable.
The sunrise was memorable. Good kayaking and a pleasant host .. we had expected a much more variety and numbers of birds especially as being sold as a bird trip
We had a beautiful sunrise paddle in a warm and very calm laguna. Our knowledgeable and friendly guide pointed out the many types of birds we saw, and a few iguanas too. It was great that the transportation to and from was also included.
Who knew Puerto Escondido boasted such biodiversity and ecological consciousness? Mario had a wealth of knowledge of every bird species and explained how mangroves cleaned water and provided safe haven for birds, iguanas, shrimp and crocodiles. The pace of kayaking was slow enough to allow us to spot 6 different kinds of herons, take pictures and be still in the lagoon. We ended our trip with a visit with local family on beach watching sunset and drinking coconut water. I appreciate the cooperation of this company with locals and concern for environment. Come prepared to be awed!
Had a fantastic kayak tour with our guide Kiko. The whole day was perfect from start to finish, Kiko is super knowledgeable about nature and wildlife, we felt super safe and had so much fun! It was almost like a safari, we saw so many animals. Would 100% recommend.
