It was a fun afternoon, seeing a variety of vendors (tortillas, cheese, bread, vegetables) and trying different foods (in several off the beaten track restaurants) with a very engaged and interesting guide.
The Puerto Food tour with Indra was excellent. Great variety of food types and stops. Wonderful visit to the centre of the city including the market. Indra is a local guide. She was enthusiastic, very knowledgeable about the food, the restaurant owners and the history of the city and Oaxaca state. We could tell she had authentic relationships at each stop on the tour. This was definitely an excellent way to see the real puerto Escondido
When they say “come hungry” - believe it! Be ready to taste a lot, learn a lot and walk a lot! Our guide, Indra was fun, knowledgeable and welcoming. We loved our food tour and highly recommend it as a way to become familiar with the wonderful food and culture of Puerto Escondido.
This was a fantastic tour. We went Saturday, January 17 at 3pm. Our guide (Indra?) was amazing. She kept us moving, on time, and made certain we were together and safe. There were seven of us. The tour was paced well with eating at different spots and proper portions. We learned about food, the culture, and the history of Escondido. We learned about different moles, coffee, cacao, and mezcal. We made our own tortillas. It was worth every penny and the 3.5 hours time. We left with bread, snacks, candy and a map of places visited and what we had there all in a gift bag. That bag came in handy as my wife and I bought coffee and tamarind mezcal.
Indra was an excellent guide who made a great effort to teach and entertain while touring us from one quaint culinary stop to another. We tried a great range of tasty local dishes and drinks and were all completely full by the end. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
We were fortunate to take in the Puerto food tour with Indra. We have taken a number of food tours in multiple countries and have to say the this one ranks near the tops. From beginning to I go to end, she was knowledgeable and engaging. We spent time at 4 market vendors before trying 5 other local restaurants. For anyone interested in experiencing Oaxaca cuisine and learning about the origins, this tour is a must.
Our guide Indra was fantastic. We tried food that we wouldn’t have found on our own and really liked it. Glad we did the tour
Don’t miss this super affordable chance to learn more about Oaxaca culture Ask for Ingra, she’s knowledgeable and fun to be with.
We had an amazing tour tasting so many different foods from the markets and restaurants. We highly recommend this tour!
Indra was a fantastic guide! We learned a lot and enjoyed some amazing food! Definitely go hungry - we were stuffed by the end! The tortillas, the cheese, the chilattes, the ceviche, the empanadas….. all incredible!
The host was lovely! Mostly leaving a 3 stars because I think it's extremely overpriced. I think this tour should be $40.
Iyari was such a pleasure to have as our tour guide. She made the experience so amazing and enjoyable. My husband and I had a super time exploring Puetro Escondido’s food culture and neighborhoods with her as our leader. All the food was tasty and delicious. I appreciated how many of the eateries visited focused on women, indigenous, and Oaxaqueños culture and traditions. Cocofam was our favorite!
Our guide Indra was exceptional and her stories of the origins of the food and ingredients were well told and really enhanced the experience. We try and do food tours everywhere we travel and this one was one of the best! Thank you!
You should not miss this food tour! Everything was great. We learned so much about the area and the culture. We left very full, no need for dinner after. Indra’s knowledge, excitement, and energy were awesome. She was such a great guide. Anyone coming to this area should take this tour!
Two Americans traveling on holiday. Indra gave us a tour through Centro part of Puerto Escondido. We really enjoyed it and would recommend it for anybody visiting. The food, drinks, cultural background lessons were all excellent. Indra was very knowledgable and the staff at each stop were very friendly. Our favorites were the mole negro and the fish tacos. We hope to make it back someday!
Indra was a great guide. We enjoyed learning about Oaxacan culture and culinary traditions. We would never have found these foods, or understood the history and traditions behind them without her and this tour. Highly recommended!
This food tour is a great way to enjoy some delicious Oaxacan food while learning about the culture and history of Oaxaca. Indra was a fantastic tour guide, who took us to 8-9 (I lost count!) different stops, explaining the history and cultural significance of each along the way. The small group made it a wonderful opportunity to ask questions and get to know each other. I would highly recommend!!
This was a really fun experience. We learned a lot about the various local foods and vendors. We would never had known about all the variety and local specialties. Even though we just sampled the various dishes, it was far too much food for lunch and we were stuffed. Good thing there was a fair amount of walking involved! Our guide spoke English fluently which was appreciated. The price seems a bit high but was worth it.
We had an absolute blast and ate so much delicious food! You’d be a fool to miss this awesome tour! Our guide was fun, knowledgeable, and super well organized!
Indra was fantastic. A Puerto Escondido food tour was the highlight of my family’s trip. My two teenagers loved the history and the different foods. I would do it again.
The food tour was excellent. We loved the selection of family businesses and Indra our guide answered all our questions and told us about the history of the city as well. Definitely recommend this great experience to any one who wants to see a bit more than the tourist hot spots
Indra lead us on Such a fun tour! A mix of some of the market and local restaurants. It was a great mix of being educational and trying some amazing places we wouldn’t have ever gone! Highly recommend
The food tour was great. So many good stops. They were all excellent and our guide was amazing. There were many types of food and great insights into the culture and origins of the food as well. Thanks again!
We’re glad we came hungry, because the food and drink were delicious and plentiful. Iyari was knowledgeable and a delight to spend the afternoon with. Would highly recommend this tour!
We first did this tour 5 years ago and loved it so much that we knew when we visited again recently that we had to share it with our extended family. The tour stops were all delicious and Indra did an amazing job as our guide. We had a pretty big group with a bunch of kids and the kids especially enjoyed tasting the different cheeses and chocolates, and making fresh tortillas. We now have a tradition to do this every time we visit Puerto!
This tour was fantastic! We recommended it to multiple people we met on the trip. There was drfiiitely more walking than anticipated, but learning so much about different cultural food was worth every step. Indra was so informative and fun!
Indra was great !! (Our tour guide) A must, tour….to experience the culture, the food and the little town of Puerto Escondido.
I only wish we'd done this sooner! Indra was our guide and she was awesome, we never would have discovered the places she took us on our own. The food was excellent, the people we met along the way were awesome and we tasted things we've never tasted before. Highly recommended.
Best food tour ever! Had such a wonderful experience and a awesome guide (Ceci). I am Mexican and I learned new things about my own culture and food! I enjoyed immensely every single bit.
If new to the area, this tour is a must and very worth it. Indra was awesome!! Not only was the tour about food but the rich and beautiful history of Puerto Escondido. You’ll be having all of the classic dishes that this part of Oaxaca is known for, even mole. One thing I’ll say, be ready to eat and eat well!
Ceci was so personable & sweet. 200% recommend taking this tour! Amazing food, company & experience!
I would highly recommend doing this tour at the beginning of your trip, so you can sample the local favorites and get advice for the rest of your dining experiences. The tour includes a variety of foods and drinks from different stands, restaurants, and shops; you can tell it's thoughtfully curated to give you a well-rounded sample of Oaxacan cuisine. I'm not typically a mole fan, but the ones you'll try on the tour are incredible. We enjoyed walking around the market and downtown area and hearing about the town's history. Our guide, Indra, was pleasant, passionate, and accommodating. She ensured the pace of the tour was to our liking, and we enjoyed talking with her throughout it. Add this tour to your itinerary!
Fun tour. Good food. Nice way to see the city. Fun tour. Good food. Nice way to see the city. Don’t have more to say but I need to have a minimum number of words.
Great afternoon exploring Puerto and learning more about its foods. A wonderful tour guide. Recommend it highly.
This was an interesting tour in and around the main market area of the city. It began with four stops, to introduce some staples of Mexican food; Tortillas, Cheese, Tostadas and Bread. We then proceeded to sample some of the more complex foods: Mole, Dobladas and Seafood. We were introduced to a traditional rice based, organic Energy Drink. The final stop was a delightful restaurant/shop where we had explanations and samples of Coffee, Chocolates, Mexcals, Granola, Peanuts and Hot Chocolate. Overall, it was an interesting tour which covered a good variety of foods from a number of locally owned and operated businesses. Some history of the city and area was also provided. The guide’s English was good, she was most helpful and showed an interest in what she was doing.
Tanya was an amazing guide! She shared a lot of Puerto Escondido history especially the history of the restaurants we visited. It was great to visit the heart of Puerto Escondido where the locals shop and eat. The food was amazing! We even sampled a few different Mezcal. Definitely would recommend this tour!
Great crash course to Puerto history and food culture. However, considering stops at the market and restaurants visited, the tour is a bit overpriced.
Incredible experience! Such a wonderful way to experience Oaxacan culture. The organizers of this tour are so kind, thoughtful, and helpful. 10/10 worthwhile experience for everyone visiting!
Great experience, led by Indra. I especially enjoyed getting to try our hand at making tortillas and the last stop at the coffee place where we learned about chocolate and tried honey and coffee. Also as a few months resident several items including chilate were new to me. Wish I’d done sooner during our stay. Can recommend! We had to reschedule due to sickness and the team were super lovely and accommodating. Thank you for a great overall experience!
It was a wonderful way to see a part of Puerto Escondido that we had not seen before! We were told there was a maximum of eight people tour, and they were nine, but it was not a problem.
I had a wonderful experience on my food tour with Ceci! The tour itself stopped at many restaurants where you typically do not see tourists so it felt like I got an insider’s guide. Ceci was very knowledgeable and informative about the foods we ate and just a personable individual overall! I had a great time on this tour!
We had a great time on our food tour! Our guide was Indra. All of the places we went had special stories and delicious food. Highly recommend!
This food tour was awesome! It was my first time visiting Puerto Escondido, and I truly felt like I the tour allowed me to try many different special foods that I wouldn't have otherwise found without going with our tour guide. She was very friendly, and knowledgeable and made the whole experience worthwhile. I would highly recommend doing this early on in your vacation to PE so that you can re-visit all of the special places!
The whole tour was an amazing experience! I was able to sample local dishes and get some history about where it came from. My guides were friendly and knowledgeable and really made the experience memorable. Before the tour, I’d only eaten in more touristy areas and this was the deep dive into delicious Oaxan cuisine that I was looking for. If you are staying in Puerto, you have to take the food tour!
I have been to Puerto Escondido several times and I thought I knew the best places to eat local food. Big surprise, all the places we visited were new to me!! I love it. Sofia was very friendly and told us several stories about the city, about the food and about the places we went to. I think this tour is a perfect plan to do while visiting Puerto Escondido and YES, come hungry because you will eat really good food. =)
The overall price is a bit high, but ultimately it is worth it. Sofia was incredible and really cares about food in general, but the history and authenticity of food and drinks. She is incredibly knowledgable and enthusiastic. Sofia will show you some of the best market vendors, best places to get local mole, seafood, coco drinks, coffee, mezcal, sweets, and other local cuisines. It was beyond surface level and never would have been able to find any of these places on our own. She gave us a great overview of the history of the city as well. I would STRONGLY recommend starting off here when you arrive to PE for the first time to gain a good sense of the food and culture before trying to venture on your own.
Our food tour was awesome we learned a lot thanks to Sofia, she was the best!! 10/10 I recommend taking this tour!!🙌
Loved the tour. One of the best we’ve taken. Guide is so nice and knowledgeable. Food you can’t find on your own at traditional family businesses. Would definitely do again. We’ll done!
Great experience! Great guide! So much fun and food) Comfortable route and timing. I would never find this authentic places by myself. Highly recommended!
