It was okay, but I think the experience could have been more varied. For me it was too focused on one market rather than a showing a range of local foods and markets.

Had such a fantastic time, bryant is wonderful tour guide, explains everything to everyone. Also fortunate for a good group and we all interact and had a wholesome experience. You can really see the authencity of the market and walking to get there was like a labyrinth but no one got lost.... as we know of.
A great sampling of foods available at the market! Brian and Alex were super guides…so friendly and helpful. My favorite things were the Oaxacan quesadilla and the shot of mezcal!
Lots of walking. 4 stops for food in the market. Pablo was a great guide. The only thing I would recommend is that the tour give out water or stop somewhere to get something to drink. Fun tour
Pablo was an amazing tour guide. He brought us through the warrens of the Oaxaca city market, introducing us to friends of his across the market at trusted, hygienic stands to try the different famous foods of Oaxaca. He’s so passionate about the market and the food of Oaxaca - a complete expert. Would highly recommend if you want to understand more about the city, not go to tourist traps and ask as many questions as you want while tasting amazing food.
Excellent range of moles and tortillas. Enthusiastic guide lived to teach about his foods. Delicious!
What a great fun tour! You should try it
Incredible tour of local market, personalized to our preferences and requested experience of Oaxaca food. Highly recommend Edgar perfect English and patience with our practicing of Spanish, very thoughtful, and ensuring we were both comfortable with food options and atmosphere highlight of the experience was the people Edgar our guide and getting to see only a fraction of what is a very large market called El Centro. Would definitely recommend booking this tour is looking for Waaka immersion experience.
Terrific tour and tour guide. Good energy, good at checking in with us on our food interests. The market he took us through was amazing to experience with someone who knew it well.
It was a really great tour, definitely worth the time and the money. You get to really experience the Oaxaca market as a local. I tried a lot of different foods and drinks and fruits and herbs. The tour guide was great and very knowledgeable. I spent my last day in Oaxaca doing this tour hoping to hit many of the amazing foods I missed while in town and it didn't disappoint.
Edgar was a great tour guide. I really enjoyed eating authentic foods from Oaxaca. Everything was delicious. I just felt the experience was too short. I was hoping to try a tlayuda but unfortunately it wasn’t included, Overall a great experience.
I did my food tour with Edgar, and it was absolutely amazing! Edgar knows a lot about Mexican cuisine and culture, as well as the food scene in Oaxaca. He is also very enthusiastic, which is truly contagious. Edgar’s English is excellent as well, so you can have great conversations and ask plenty of questions. It was such a great experience!
We enjoyed incredible food and experienced it as a local while being guided by a Oaxacan resident who taught us a great deal about Oaxacan food and culture. Definitely recommend for food and culture lovers!
Our guide was Brian. He's excellent: knowledgeable, enthusiastic, very pleasant and patient. He's fluent in English. The food was delicious, we made our own tacos. He introduced to the typical regional foods, explained them and then we tasted them. All guides should be like him and all tours as thorough and enjoyable as this one was. .
This was one of the most fascinating and engaging tours we have taken. Our guide, Brian, was excellent, knowledgeable about the history of the foods we sampled, and just a delightful person whom it appears every food vendor in the market knows. There was a huge variety of foods and drinks we tried, and each of us has several favorites. We learned of so many ingredients that can be found only or mainly in the area around Oaxaca, including the seeds from the pod of the tree that gave the city its name. The tour ended at Etnofood with a cocktail made of local ingredients, one of the best I have had. We canceled our dinner reservations!
Excellent tour - food was great, Bryan's knowledge was engaging and charming. Access to little known markets and food vendors.
Edgar was a fantastic guide! I really appreciated his expertise and engagement. It was a very enjoyable afternoon :)
Brian gave us an incredible tour of a local market that took us off the beaten path. The food was phenomenal, and the tour left us with interesting information specific to Oaxacan food culture. Highly recommend this experience! Come hungry :)
Edgar was an amazing tour guide. He was warm, friendly, and engaging. He did a great job introducing you to Oaxacan cuisine, its preparation methods, and its importance within regional culture. He did a great job showing me around a local market far removed from the touristy areas. I highly recommend this tour and having Edgar serve as your guide!
Some of the best food I've ever had and our tour guide Edgar was simply amazing. I'd definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Oaxaca city!!
My wife and I wanted to experience the food and hidden places that tourists may not know about. We loved every part of it! Our guide Ryan was amazing and really got to know us throughout the tour. 3 and a half hours of great food in one of the oldest markets in Oaxaca. We tried so much food and were educated around the origins of the food. As you walk around you feel welcomed by everyone who has a stall. We couldn’t recommend this more to couples but would also be great with a group of friends or a family.
I was lucky enough to be the only person on the tour. Hanging out with Edgar for 3 hours was great - he was really good company and started the tour asking my food likes & dislikes so he could tailor the tour for me. Genuinely starve yourself before because there is a lot of food! I was a bit worried how my sanitised European stomach would cope after eating at the market but I had no issues.Gracias Edgar!
Really enjoyed talking with the guide and learning some more about food in Oaxaca. It was a good tour in the moment, but I did get a bit sick afterwards from something I ate.
We had an excellent experience with Brian our guide who was fun and told us all about various oaxacan foods and there were several different tastings of some delicious food! We would highly recommend and request Brian if you can!
Edgar was a very friendly guide who knew a lot about Oaxaca and its culture and food. He was not shy to answer our many questions and was very helpful and kindhearted. The tour was as descrived 3-4 hours, but you won‘t get rushed by Edgar, ir was relaxing.
This tour is hands down one of the best tours that we have done. Brian was an incredible tour guide and host. He had an in-depth knowledge of the food, the markets, and was happy to share with us. If you like culture and eating then this is for you!! We made our own tacos, are plenty of local cuisine, and tried countless things. Would do again.
For those who love tours such as these we know that the guide is the key to a great tour. Brian was one of the best guides we have had on our many journeys throughout the years. Brian was very informative, patient, kind and you knew that his kindness was genuine because even the vendors in the market had a smile on their face as they greeted him. The tour was so much fun and we learned so much about life in a market the size of this one. It’s like walking into another world where people have worked and spent the majority of their lives for generations inside the dark, warm and stuffy expansive labyrinth of food and goods; when the outside world and beautiful weather is separated only by a few layers of corrugated tin. The people inside are hardworking, kind, funny and could be considered the lifeblood of the bustling city outside. You not only need to go for the experience, but also for the stark reality of how some people live their entire lives and somehow remain happy doing so. Te amo Oaxaca.
Edgar was a great guide. We got to see a local market that was really interesting. He did a great job explaining everything was very friendly and we had a really good time. Would recommend to all our friends and family
Edgar was a fantastic guide, with a group of 8 i was impressed he was so perdonable and able to keep us all together. He took us to spots we never would have found as visitors and he did a great job at explaining the foods and making it an interactive experience.
Our guide Edgar Rasgado was very good in explaining the food as well as the culture. We loved the memelas con tinga de pollo y chorizo most. Muchos gracias!
Super authentic experience. You shop and eat where the locals eat. You walk through local market and spend time learning about different foods.
Exploring the markets with Brian was an unforgettable experience. He is incredibly informative and deeply knowledgeable about the local culture. Instead of just guiding us, Brian introduced us to local vendors and made us feel like a true part of the community. The market was a sensory explosion of delicious food and fresh raw ingredients. The absolute best part was shopping for our own items and getting to make our own tacos together—it was incredibly fun and hands-on. If you want an authentic taste of Oaxaca, definitely book with Brian!
We enjoyed our tour with Edgar and were absolutely full to the brim by the end of it! There is plenty of food, and it was a great experience going to the market visiting many stalls and vendors that we wouldn’t have otherwise been able to do, not being Spanish speakers. The market has a very local feel and we particularly enjoyed gathering different ingredients to make our own custom taco. It would have been helpful if the agenda for the afternoon was explained to us at the meeting point as we just seemed to move off and begin walking towards the market not knowing what were doing. While it didn’t run as smoothly as other experiences we had done in Oaxaca, we still enjoyed ourselves, particularly considering the cost to some other food tours available.
Our tour guide Edgar is very experienced and thoughtful and patiently guided us at the local market. We had a great time trying all the local delicacies such as the tacos and quesadillas. I highly recommend you to take part in this small group of foodie tour.
True local food market with all the authentic sights, sounds and smells and of course great food. Guide Diego was terrific.
This experience was incredible. Pablo was a great tour kind! He was knowledgeable and fun! I learned a lot while also enjoying delicious food. Highly recommend!
Brian was such a wonderful, gentle and thoughtful guide. We spent three fantastic hours with him walking through the local market, sampling traditional Oaxacan food and drinks. The tour did not feel rushed. It’s a great way to get to know Mexican food and particularly Oaxacan cuisine.
Brian our tour guide was great and incredibly knowledgeable. He took us to a real, locals food market for an authentic experience. I highly recommend going to get the insider’s take on Oaxacan food.
We had a wonderful time on the tour. Edgar was a great host: funny and enthusiastic. We tried some incredible food at the market, with the memelas being the hightlight. Thanks Edgar!
Our tour with Brian was amazing. We went to Central de Abastos de Oaxaca -- the huge market where the locals (and virtually no tourists) shop (for everything) -- and got a truly immersive experience in the Oaxaqueñan food and traditions. The food was fantastic and so fresh (starting with a delicious taco campechano and moving on to quesadilla, different local mole dishes, memela, tejate, pulque, chapulines and churros). We got to interact with various vendors. Brian made it fun and did a great job explaining everything. And the market was a true feast for the senses with all the fresh produce and other food products, and I’ve been to a lot of mercados in Mexico. This really is a must for someone looking for a quick introduction to the local food.
Bryan was a great guide! Showed us around the market with ease and introduced foods we wouldn't have known about it.
I’m so glad I took tour because I would’ve have never discovered the many delicious dishes we tried at the Central Abastos Market! Brian was a friendly tour guide and very knowledgeable about all the delicious foods we tried. Highlight recommend for someone looking for an immersive Oaxacan experience!
Edgar gave us a wonderful tour of the massive local market in Oaxaca! He took us to the stalls with the best local dishes & we learned a ton about the ingredients and goods that are special here. Highly recommend for an authentic Oaxacan experience and an introduction to amazing local food!
It is a visitar to a very traditional market. We we experienced delicious traditional foods, did some shopping and made friends.
We had a great time exploring the huge Oaxaca market with Diego. He was very knowledgeable about all the different foods and we sampled many items from the local cuisine. It was truly immersive!
Brian was an excellent tour guide! He showed us so much of the market, introduced us to new foods and told us many wonderful things about Oaxacan and Mexican culture. We had a wonderful time!
Brian was a fantastic tour guide for the Central Abastos Market! The market is absolutely huge (15k stalls) and would've been impossible to navigate without him as an English only-speaking tourist. He took us to many stalls with fantastic bites - tacos we made by combining ingredients from several stalls, mole, molletes, and empanadas. He shared a lot about the market itself and the different food we were trying. We ended with a lovely mezcal cocktail. This was such a great way to spend the day in Oaxaca - highly recommend!
A brilliant food tour in Oaxaca's largest market. Roberto was an excellent guide. He took care of all the logistics so we were able to enjoy our culinary experience. We sampled a number of traditional dishes during our tour, all of which were excellent. Cooking our own tacos on a charcoal fire was a particular highlight! We would not have been able to have this experience without Roberto and I highly recommend this tour.
Super fun tour through the local's market
We were very happy with our tour with our friendly guides Brian and Edgar. It was a not to miss experience. It was a very authentic market and it also felt like the marketvenders got a fair price. The food was great and we learned a lot! Thanks
