What a morning on the ocean! Sea turtles, too many to count, and 2 elusive species; Byrde’s whale and a Leatherback turtle. And just for fun, Dolphins, humpback mother and baby, two kinds of stingrays and a yellow bellied sea snake. The guides were knowledgeable, on time, and are passionate about the ocean.
The entire journey was truly magical, made even more special by the incredible expertise of our guide. Their deep knowledge and fascinating, detailed explanations about each species we encountered (from the playful humpback whales to the graceful rays and sea turtles) transformed a simple boat trip into a profound connection with the ocean. It was an absolute privilege to learn so much while witnessing such stunning marine life in its natural hábitat.
2.5 hour whale watching. Actually, maybe 1.5 hour looking for sea animals the last 1+ hours the guide just started having conversations with people… not even looking for anything.
The seas were very choppy and there were so many participants, two boats were needed. Ours was the more crowded boat, so moving around was limited. I was one of a few of the participants who got seasick. Despite seeing two leatherback turtles, many small rays, and a humpback whale, I did not enjoy the excursion for obvious reasons. 🤢
They left on time, were well organized, and communicated well.
Great trip Saw 3 different mother/baby duos. Some breaching. Highly recommended
Nothing to compare it with we didn’t understand that we were supposed to arrive at meeting point 30 minutes prior and was contacted as we were en route. The person I spoke with stated they would wait 10 minutes and when I informed her we had just passed the airport she then replied “NO” you will not arrive in 10 minutes and they left without us. A party of 6.
We traveled alongside 2 adults with a calf for about a half hour, and then saw a pod of dolphins on our return trip. They gave my husband permission to jump in the water with his GoPro camera, but the dolphins were too quick. Also saw lots of turtles. In spite of large swells, the boat pilot did an amazing job. And we appreciate that they don't overbook, which meant we had plenty of room to move around.
We saw 3 Humpback whales, a pod of spotted dolphins, and 2 species of turtles. Guide had excellent knowledge & english.
Saw many turtles, dolphins and manta rays. Crew were excellent and our marine biologist was very knowledgeable
Ask questions. It’s not everyday you get hosted by a marine biologist. As a conservation photographer, I learned even more than I already knew. Saw many olive Ridley turtles and watched humpbacks: mom, calf and escort. The highlight was the fever of about 12 mobula rays! Even saw a few jump in the distance.
Seeing possibly 300 dolphins in one pod is something we will never forget, spotting a whale would have been like the icing on top of a cake. Maybe next time.
I had such a fantastic experience that I booked on to the tour again the next day. Thank you to Scarlett and Tito for being a brilliant guide and captain, respectively. We saw humpback whales (mother and baby), many dolphins (and heard them echolocate), jumping manta rays, lots of sea turtles and all the while respected the creatures' space and regulations of the national park. I cannot recommend this more highly.
We enjoyed the tour plenty! It was well organized and a small group on a small boat. The guides knew English and Spanish and they were very knowledgeable and spotting animals from far away. We didn't manage to see whales but we saw about hundred dolphins and many turtles and Mantas The tour was a little longer even in order for us to try another spot What I enjoyed most is that the guide seemed as excited as ourselves to see the animals
Peter and his assistant provided an amazing trip. It was very informative and well worth the money. Though we didn't get to see a whale, we did see sharks, dolfins, manta rays jumping and even saw sea turtles mating. We highly recommend Oceanico for a wonderful experience while holidaying in Huatulco Mexico.
Peter, Tito and team were absolutely the best and made our family - including our two young children, feel comfortable right from the get-go. Super knowledgeable and passionate about ocean conservation efforts, we got to see whales, dolphins, turtles, rays and even a sea snake on our morning trip. One of the highlights of our trip to Mexico this year - an absolute treat. Highly recommended!
We had such a special couple hours out on the ocean! We were only able to go for two hours but still saw huge pod of dolphins and a mama whale with her baby! Tito and Peter were very knowledgeable, warm and welcoming! We will definitely book again when we return, hopefully for a longer trip!!
Excellent all around! The guides were fun, engaging, and very knowledgeable. The boat was solid, comfortable, and fast. The place and wildlife were magnificent! I highly recommend getting out on the water with Oceánico Huatulco.
What a special Valentine’s Day. Three friends and I did a morning trip. We saw at least 15 whales, which we even heard singing; dolphins (but in the distance); about 30 sea snakes some of whom were mating; about 60 turtles including a leatherback; a jumping sail fish; jumping mobley rays; jelly fish and a percolating school of fish. Outstanding Day with this knowledgeable crew.
This was our 3rd time visiting Huatulco and our 3rd time we went on an excursion with Peter and his team. We did both a morning whale and dolphin adventure and later in the week a Private tour with whale and dolphin watching and snorkeling. Both excursions were excellent. On the first excursion we quickly found 4 humpback whales including a mother and her calf. Along with the humpbacks there were dolphins close by trying to play with the whales. Later in the week we went on a private tour. We found a group of 6 humpbacks that were very active. They would surface and start "trumpeting". It honestly sounded like a heard of elephants. They were bumping each other and trying to show who was superior. Peter said we were very lucky to witness this. After this group we found another group of 5. This group included a mother and calf. We safely followed them getting excellent views of spouts and tails. For snorkeling Peter and Tito found a calm bay where the snorkeling was excellent. The variety of colorful fish we saw was awesome. We will be back in Huatulco next January and we will be booking multiple excursions with Peter and his team!
Peter and Tito were amazing! It was really nice to be part of a smaller group and not herded onto a party barge. They had excellent Spanish and English-- Peter is Canadian-- and they knew so much! We saw a mom humpback and calf! Baby had the zoomies and breached several times. Mom breached once or twice as well. We saw rays leaping out of the water, caught a glimpse of sea turtles mating, saw a sea snake, and enjoyed a pod of dolphins. We were even able to listen to them talking via an on board microphone! Peter and Tito kept a respectful distance to the wildlife and limited the length of time we could be close. They were mindful of avoiding causing stress to the animals. We also enjoyed the snorkeling at the national park. They had chosen a spot that had a huge variety of fish to see and was relatively calm. An excellent place to see stunning and colorful fish! The boat ride was very comfortable and there was a small washroom on board. With their knowledge and their humour Peter and Tito provided us with a wonderful afternoon. Five stars would highly recommend!
Very informative venture with experts in marine biology who are conversant in several languages. We saw two pods of dolphins, bottlenose and spotted, many Ridley turtles, yellow-bellied sea snakes, a leaping sailfish. No whales today, but the rest was fantastic. This was an excellent trip!
We opted for an early 2-hour tour and it was perfect. Easy to get to from our hotel (marina), and a small group event. Owner Peter along with colleague Tony shared a lot of knowledge about the whales and turtles and quickly located whales to follow. We watched a mama and baby for a while saw a few sea turtles and also a man o ray flipping in the air over the water. All very cool! The boat was very small with little sun protection and could be hot if you are not properly dressed. Bring water and wear a hat & sunscreen! We enjoyed being up front watching all the action!
On Jan 15, 25 We experienced the most remarkable whale watching tour with Oceanico in Huatulco. It was truly spectacular seeing dolphins within 15 minutes of the tour. We were treated to the breathtaking display of at least 5 Orcas and 2 Whales joceling for the best seafood about 7km off shore. We also saw at least 15 turtles, many manteray, and even a sea snake. We highly recommend this tour operator for their indepth knowledge of sea life, and giving guests an experience like no other...Thank you
Great guide who was very informative. Saw many green turtles, spotted dolphins and three grey whales!
Amazing tour the biologists were so knowledgeable and respectful of the whales and turtles we saw. Experience of a lifetime.
It was such a fun experience, the captain and guide were able to help us feel comfortable being out on the ocean and snorkeling for our first time. They even extended the tour because we were seeing so many species out on the ocean!
My wife and I have visited Huatulco twice now and we just booked our 3rd visit for January 2025. In our previous visits we went on 2 excursions each year with Oceanico Huatulco. The whale watching was awesome. We got up close with humpback whales and dolphins. On 2 of the excursions we also saw newborn humpback whales estimated to be only 3 weeks old. Along with the humpback whales we also saw dolphins swimming along side the humpbacks. The team of Peter, Mariano, Maria, and the experienced captain provided such wonderful experiences. We were so close to these beautiful creatures. Oceanico Huatulco is so knowledgeable and passionate about the cetaceans in this area. We learned so much about all the marine life. We also had the opportunity to snorkel in 2 of the beautiful bays. I highly recommend Oceanico Huatulco. You will have an awesome experience!
Whether you are an avid expert, or just curious novice when it comes to learning about the marine creatures of all varieties, and also the birds that depend on the ocean to sustain themselves, Peter and his assistant guide are well versed on the species found off of the shores of Huatulco. During our time out on the water with him we were literally surrounded by a pod of dolphins, just magnificent! We saw so many turtles, I lost count! We even had a chance to go snorkeling. Excellent experience! Highly recommended!
My partner and I went on a trip with Oceanico Huatulco and it was incredible. I really appreciated she eco aspect of it. I’m always a bit skeptical of whale watching but I knew this organization was very eco friendly and informative. The crew did an amazing job and I highly recommend and I hope I get to go again!
The 9 bays of Huatulco are so beautiful and visitors include many species of rays, turtles, dolphins and whales. Oceanico Huatulco is the best option to go explore the bays and marine species. Highly recommended!
Peter was wonderful and did everything possible to make the trip special for us. He is extremely kind and knowledgeable about our oceans.
From the moment I reached to schedule the tour, I was greeted with kindness and all my questions were answered. And I had a lot of questions! The tour was 2 hours, and we arrived 10 minutes early. The biologist and boat captain informed us there was unusual exciting activity happening immediately and so we set out a little early. Within 12 minutes, we were watching one of the most rare sights on the Oaxacan coast - Sperm Whales. We were educated about them and also the other species of whales. There was an underwater sound system on board allowing us to hear the communication of whales. The captain and biologist were so excited themselves, emotional, professional and truly shared with us their enthusiasm for the jobs. I can not say enough about the experience. We had children and adults - both English and Spanish speakers.
It has been one of the best days of my life, without a doubt. We have finally been able to see an orca in the wild. It has been magnificent. The guides accompanied us at all times and with some very good explanations. Without a doubt, we would do it again.
On time, Scarlett was always very friendly and gave all the details with scientific and friendly approach. It was responsible sailing we kept distance with marine fauna Unfortunately other vessels did not
All right, they're very punctual, they give you an excellent explanation.
A little more layout of the guide is required for searching the organisms and stopping the vessel for a few moments to achieve photographs.
We had a spectacular experience in which we could observe hundreds of dolphins and several humpback whales. The guides are excellent and have a lot of knowledge about the species in this region, the trip was not only fun but very informative. Peter’s treatment is extremely kind and generous, not only with his knowledge but also trying his best to create an unforgettable experience for all attendees. 100% recommended!
The tour consisted of whale, dolphin and turtle watching. Although not as many whales arrive in Huatulco as in Baja California, we achieved our goal of seeing two adult whales and a whale, as well as dolphins, rays and turtles. Very nice experience, excellent treatment from the staff, from Luc, who was our guide. Highly recommended.
Spectacular. Unforgettable. Excellent experience. Very professional. We saw turtles, whales, dolphins. And we snort on reefs.
I loved the whole experience, from the moment we arrived at the place the guides were very friendly and made sure that we were all comfortable, they explained it to us very well and the moment of meeting the whales was unique!! I would highly recommend the experience to everyone, they are the best in the place, thank you so much for all your attention!!
