Our hike in the Sierra Norte was great. Daniel was a super guide, with loads of knowledge about the area. The pace was great and we really enjoyed the views and the cooler climate of the mountains.

Itinerary
We will visit this small market, popular with the local people of Oaxaca, to charge our body and be ready to do our hike in the mountain, in this market we will find various options for breakfast, between fresh fruit juices and seasonal fruits, as well as tamales of beans, mole, dulce or pumpkin flower, quesadillas and delicious memelitas. Fresh fruit waters or smoothies we can also find here!
Here we will do our hiking! In the forests of the Sierra Norte de Oaxaca, temperate ecosystems of great ecological importance that are home to pine and oak forests, mesophilic cloud forests. This region is famous for its unique biodiversity, high concentration of endemic species of flora and fauna, such as the multicolored hummingbird, and spectacular landscapes characterized by the presence of fog and epiphytes. Local communities have preserved these forests for centuries, and today they are a key destination for ecotourism and adventure tourism in Mexico. Guided by a local guide, we will make an easy and beautiful 3-hour hike into the most beautiful forests of Mexico, considered among the most diverse in the world with lush vegetation, gazebos and beautiful panoramic views of the Oaxaca Valley.
We will pause for lunch before returning to the city in one of the most attractive restaurants in the Sierra Norte de Oaxaca, where we can find delicious local food such as hot drinks like coffee, water chocolate or milk chocolate, yolk bread, atole and champurrados, as well as fresh fruit juices and traditional dishes like chilaquiles and memelitas or quesadillas, definitely a mandatory break after our adventure through the forest!

The most amazing hike with our guide Daniel. Even though it was cold and wet he was enthusiastic and intresting. A must do in any weather.
Easy pickup, a really nice guide, and a lovely group! It was fun chatting with Daniel and we had a great time overall. Would definitely recommend!
Excellent guide and a lovely trail hike in the Sierra Norte. Highly recommended!
A super enjoyable day hiking in a beautiful area and route - through forest and up to an amazing view! One of my favourite days in Oaxaca! Lovely small group (3 in total). Everything was well organised and smooth. There was an opportunity to buy some snacks before we set off. We didn’t end up going for the lunch at the end of the trip as we spent longer on the hike/at the viewing point, but the group were all happy with this. Daniel is a very friendly guide, with lots of local knowledge and switches between Spanish and English to accommodate the group. Highly highly recommend this peaceful and gorgeous trip!
Daniel made this an easy 10/10. Friendly, funny, and knows the Sierra Norte inside out. The market, the drive, the hike — all gorgeous. If you're in town and have a day to spare, go hiking with this guy he is awesome!
I loved this beautiful hike! A bit challenging for me @ 78, but Daniel was very patient and even provided helpful walking sticks. The group was small, so we each had time to ask questions, and I learned many Spanish words, though Daniel led the tour in perfect English. He taught us about fauna, flora and birdcalls. In case there's no time for lunch, make sure you bring hearty snacks. Well-organized, well-priced and lots of FUN. Highly recommended!
This was the best! Super personalized. I had a great time. Not a big production with a crowd of people. A real hike. Like you'd do at your favorite place with friends when you want to show them a place you love. Definitely recommend.
This was the perfect escape into nature from Oaxaca City. Especially if you are looking to do a half day trip. Daniel was super accommodating and tailored the trip to our small group. He even stopped the car by request to let us take photos. He was also very knowledgeable of local plants and birds. Highly recommend and will be booking with him again when I come back.
Excellent tour. Daniel was lovely and the hike was beautiful. Highlight of our trip.
It was a beautiful day of hiking at Sierra Norte! It took a while to get out of the city due to the blockade but when we got out, it was a smooth sailing. Daniel Is a kind and easy going young fellow and we enjoyed his company very much!!
Daniel was awesome. What a great experience to have. Hike was the perfect way to get out of the city for a day. Would definitely recommend.
Even though the weather unexpectedly turned cold and rainy and there was no visibility at the 10500 feet elevation we still enjoyed the fresh mountain air, the variety of plant life along the trail and the good companionship of Daniel and Andreas.
Although I enjoyed the trip a lot and found Daniel to be a very pleasant and knowledgeable guide there was an administrative error, which I believe was the fault of TripAdvisor, not the company and meant that we had too many people booked on the trip. My return journey turned out to be very uncomfortable as a result!,
A magical day with Daniel and his brother. We had a delicious stop off at a local market for breakfast and then headed into the mountains. It was a beautiful day with a lovely group of people. Daniel was very kind and engaging and gave many interesting insights about the area. I would highly recommend this tour with a lovely chill human. Thanks, Daniel!
We had such a great experience with Daniel! Unfortunately for us I cut open my foot the day before we were supposed to go on a hike, so we had to change our plans a bit. But Daniel was really flexible and kind. He took us up to the mountains anyway and took us for a shorter hike I could do on flip flops. We’ll have to come back for the proper hike! But besides that he’s really knowledgeable about all the flora and fauna, and really friendly. We had a lovely chat the whole ride up and down, and the whole hike as well. 100% would recommend!
We absolutely loved our experience Hiking with Daniel. From the moment we first booked, we got a very positive feeling from our interactions with him. He was such a great communicator, very friendly, incredibly helpful and a great conversationalist. He was very knowledgable about the area. He was also very caring when my partner was struggling a little bit on the hike. If you’re looking for a wonderful half-day experience, I cannot recommend him highly enough. We were also very lucky and that the weather was fabulous and we got clear views of the mountains, all around us when we got to the top. It was also really fun when Daniel made the cowboy coffee - or that’s what I like to call campfire coffee! Be sure to pack a jacket because the mountains can get cool.
Great hike! Beautiful scenery and views! Daniel did a great job. Even made us coffee at the turn around point!
Daniel is a great guide, and the tour is excellent in every way. Took us to a lovely market experience with tasty food, he is a very good driver, mellow, professional tour operator of high integrity. He taught me how to listen for hummingbirds, told some wonderful stories, showed us cool plants and flowers, and was so kind, generous and passionate about the precious nature in Oaxaca. Peaceful high elevation trails; views were to die for! I’d been dreaming of getting away from town and up into the mountains for years on previous visits, and felt like I hit the jackpot! Highly recommended. Unforgettable experience! A real highlight!
My cousin and I booked a hike and Daniel was our guide. He took us to a local market first for breakfast and I had the best tamales ever! The hike itself was wonderful. There were no others on the trail which was nice. Daniel was a great guide. He taught us many things about Oaxaca, the mountains, etc. The hardest part of the hike was the last 20-30 mins of the ascent… difficult primarily because of the altitude. Otherwise, we were met with amazing views and hot coffee/tea to warm up. The descent was easy. We saw many cows, mushrooms, local plants, an hummingbirds. Highly recommend this hike. A great way to start our trip in Oaxaca.
Our group had a wonderful hike in Sierra Norte with Danial, our guide. The hike was beautiful! The forest was extremely green as we were at the end of the rainy season, and we saw mushrooms, hummingbirds, a frog, and even a tiny snake! At the mountain lookout point the views were spectacular, and we all enjoyed camping coffee to celebrate our successful climb. What a wonderful way to spend half a day in Oaxaca, especially if the chaos of the city is driving you a little crazy.
A fantastic day hike in the Sierra Norte mountains! Daniel our guide was very friendly and could communicate in both English and Spanish with ease. Our hike wasn't too strenuous, although the incline at the end of the first half did give us a workout! The forests, mountains, and views were wonderful. Just the thing to set you right if you are looking to escape the chaos of Oaxaca.
Spent a great day hiking through the amazingly biodiverse and beautiful Sierra Norte with Daniel as our gracious guide. The drive alone has breathtaking 360 views of the surrounding mountains. We learned a great deal about the area and people who live there. The mirador has a great view of the Oaxaca valley. A definite highlight of our trip to Oaxaca. Don't miss out on this amazing experience.
Beautifully easy mysterious hike through the mountains. Migual is a legend , super friendly , positive and full of good vibes . So worth any of his tours just for him !!!
My friends and I had a great time hiking the Sierra Norte with Daniel. I had already been on a bike tour with Daniel and I contacted him about doing hiking options near Oaxaca. This conversation turned into a wonderful afternoon that Daniel was able to customize for our group of 4. He picked us up, we went to a local market for breakfast, then off the the Sierra Norte mountains. It was a lovely hike and Daniel was knowledgeable and personable. It was exactly what we were hoping for an would recommend it 100%. Daniel is a great guide and I'm sure he could be flexible (within reason) if someone had specific needs on the hike. If I'm ever back in Oaxaca, I will be sure to look up Daniel and take another hike!
I had a wonderful experience hiking in the Sierra Norte, just outside Oaxaca. Our guide, Daniel, made the day really special. He first took us to a local market where we could enjoy a traditional breakfast, and later in the forest he even brewed fresh coffee for us at a lookout point with views over the forest. The forest felt moist, misty, and full of life, almost mystical in atmosphere. I loved exploring the trails and just taking in the peaceful nature all around us. Highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to see a different, quieter side of Oaxaca and connect with nature. Thank you, Daniel, for a memorable day.
We had a really good time with Daniel, a very nice get a way from the city with surprising nature! Definitely recommend :)
Super fun trip! The mountains are amazing and Daniel is a great guide, it was definitely one of my favorite activities in Oaxaca, definitely worth it.
A great escape from Oaxaca City! Was exactly what we were specting, beautiful hiking moring in the forest of Sierras Norte my friend and i enjoyed out time with Daniel. We did the moring one, took us to a local market for food and had a small delicious tamale and fresh juice (we paid ours, very cheap, bring cash!)... then we head up to the mountains, we hiked for 2 and a half hours, was exactly what we wanted, not hard, but we sweat but with good distance on hiking trails sorrounded with dense forest and fresh air and great view of the mountains, the drive to get there was quick (around 40 min drive), after we head back to the City, we did 4 and a half hours total since we met at the starting point. 100% WORTH IT!!
I had an amazing time with Daniel, who was so friendly and the knowledgable about the Sierra Norte. This is a great way to see the Sierra Norte and meet a local Oaxacan. The walk through the beautiful forest to the viewpoint was not overly challenging but felt exactly the right distance to get a good taste of the forest and the views were absolutely spectacular. Highly recommend this to anyone looking to get out in nature and leave the city. From start to finish the tour lasted about 5 hours - it felt the perfect length. Thanks Daniel, and thanks for the coffee!
Great tour! Our group decided to go straight to the hiking without making another stop and Daniel, our guide, was super flexible. The place is super nice, and although it is a good trek (about 10km), it is not difficult.
Magnificent :) I liked it a lot!
The weather was fine, and we climbed with an English couple, aiming for the observatory. On the way, our guide Daniel slowly put us through our paces, taking pictures of mushrooms and flowers, without any rush. When I arrived at the observatory, Daniel boiled water and made coffee for me. The view from the observation deck with that coffee was amazing. I learned about the natural wonders of Oaxaca ❣️ Harumi
Water, sunglasses are essential for cap enhancement We'll go to the observatory at a slow pace! And there the guide made coffee for us❣️ Take in the beautiful scenery while I thought it was good to climb up to this point❣️
We did a walk in the forest super cute, about 2 1/2 hours, just what we expected. The distance from the center to the Sierra was less than an hour, we stopped at a market for some fruit and coffee, and continued on to our tour. An experience that you should do when you visit Oaxaca, without doubt super nice, also organizes bike tours that we also did with him in the city. Daniel is a good local guide with a lot of knowledge about Oaxaca and Mexico! Thanks Daniel!
This tour was awesome! Daniel explains everything about the geography and history of the region, and also had a drone to take photos from afar. When we get to the viewpoint, it's a little cold. But, no problem because Daniel brought a stove and coffee for a nice warm coffee. It was a memorable experience, and I would do it again. It is highly recommended and will be a wonderful day.
