My sister-in-law and I took this tour during our recent trip to Oaxaca, and Hierve el Agua was a highlight! Since our hotel was in Teotitlán del Valle, Paul kindly arranged pickup near the town entrance instead of in Centro. The team was responsive and helpful in accommodating us. We stopped at a local bakery for treats and coffee before heading to the mountains. Our guide, Rocio, was friendly and knowledgeable, sharing the area’s history, and descriptions of the plant life, throughout the hike. She allowed time to take photos—even offering to take some for us. We spent about an hour at the falls, followed by lunch at a nearby restaurant. The tour also offered optional visits to a weaving studio and a mezcal production center, both at an additional cost. We skipped these and returned to our hotel by tuk-tuk after being dropped off in Teotitlán del Valle. Clearer information beforehand about the extra fees and transportation arrangements for those declining the activities would have been helpful, though this may have been explained in Centro before we joined. Overall, this was a beautiful experience and a wonderful way to spend time outside Oaxaca City. Thank you to Paul, Rocio, and the team for a memorable adventure!

Paul was great, professional and very prompt. Nice group of people joined us too
We had a fantastic half-day trip to Hierve el Agua from Oaxaca! Our guide Luis was friendly and helpful from the very beginning, and he did a great job explaining the different sights and towns we passed along the drive. He and our naturalist guide were both extremely knowledgeable and made exploring Hierve el Agua even more interesting. Luis also gave us some great local food recommendations in Oaxaca, and one of the restaurants he suggested ended up being our favorite meal of the entire trip! Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we’d highly recommend Luis and the tour.
The trip to Hierve el Agua with Paul was fantastic! He was friendly and knowledgeable, bring swim stuff , water shoes and towel to enjoy a dip in the pools after the hike. Thank you Paul for helping us make amazing memories!
Paul (fluent English) is an incredible guide - expert about the mineral life/composition of the area, plant life, and villages we passed on the way. But what stood out was his kindness and genuine attentiveness, showing concern and guiding slower participants. Leaving early meant we beat the crowds; we did not run into any other visitors on our way down the falls. The pools are amazing and cool photo ops. Highly recommend all around.
This was such a good tour! Our guide Paul was amazing. Highly recommend.
It was a great trip to Hierve el agua. Paul as a guide is such a nice dude who makes you feel welcome from the get go. He is never tired of explaining things to you and has great recommendations beyond the trip. I can only highly recommend this trip with Paul
We had a fantastic day visiting Hierve el Agua with Paul as our guide. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and shared so much about the history, culture, and local area throughout the trip. The day was well organised, relaxed, and enjoyable. We learned so much and would highly recommend Paul - thank you for such a memorable experience!
I had a confirmed reservation for this tour, but unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. The tour was cancelled the night before, leaving me with very limited time to reorganize my plans in Oaxaca. I understand that unexpected situations can happen, but the way this was handled was not acceptable. Viator processed a full refund, but the refund does not change the fact that I lost valuable travel time and had to rearrange my plans at the last minute. My review is based on the overall handling of the situation: confirmed booking, last-minute cancellation, and the lack of a clear alternative solution. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this operator.
We had a fabulous day with Paul touring Hierve el Agua. The scenery was beautiful and we especially loved swimming in the pools after a bit arduous and hot hike. Overall, Paul took good care of us and made sure we had enough time to enjoy the pools and lunch.
Unique natural wonder. Wonderful fresh pools. Paul was a friendly and knowledgeable guide. Unforgettable scenery
Paul cancelled at 11pm the night before my booked trip because his car was being serviced. I understand that issues like this can happen unexpectedly, but I would have hoped for more notice so that I had time to make alternative plans. If you're tight on time I'd book with a different operator that isn't reliant on one vehicle, as looking at other reviews it sounds like he has recurring car troubles!
This natural wonder is not to be missed. Bus ride is long but everything worked perfectly. Guides were knowledgeable, especially about plants.
We had a lovely time on this half day trip to Hierve El Agua with Paul and Luiz. They were both lovely and chatty, and very knowledgeable about the local flora. It’s a short hike to the bottom and back up so would recommend good sandals or sneakers. Swimming in the pools was also a highlight!
This tour was perfect! We met up early and avoided the crowds, first we did a small hike to observe the waterfall from below, then had some time to enjoy the view and swim in the natural pool. It was not crowded at all and Paul was very knowledgeable and nice, it felt like going on an excursion with a friend. Highly recommended!
Well coordinated trip. We got to Hierve el Agua early and did the route so that we weren't stuck in any crowds. Luis, our guide, was friendly and knowledgeable.
Paul Lopez was an excellent guide and even helped us with lunch ordering. He made the experience of visiting Hierve el Agua memorable.
Very smooth, friendly and informative tour to a beautiful sight! It was great all around! Would definitely recommend (to anybody reasonably fit) :)
Paul was a great tour guide who went above and beyond. The tour was perfect length as we got back around 1:30pm with plenty of time left in the day. Hierve el agua is absolutely worth visiting and Paul is the perfect person to lead you there
I would give a very high rating for Paul, even if I could not do the trip with him in the end, as he had technical difficulties with his car. He helped us very efficiently to find another tour with an other professional guide, the same day and the same time, with guarantee of the same price. His organizing was quick and very helpful. I imagine his tours are great, but if there are other circumstances you can count on him too! Thank you Paul! We did have a wonderful time with your help in the end!
This was a very enjoyable, relaxed trip. Luis did a great job keeping us on time but not rushed, so we saw everything. It was a very informative outing, with him and our local guide sharing great information about Oaxacan geography and culture. The preparation information beforehand was also helpful.
The guide, Paul, was very knowledgeable about the history of Hierve el Agua and the community caring for the place. He was professional and friendly. He chose a wonderful Fonda for lunch. I will say as an active, older person the climb from the bottom of the falls to the pools was not easy. It’s important to remember that the site is at approximately 3000 meters in altitude. I recommend this trip because you will be at the site before the crowds and you will learn a little about the culture of Oaxaca.
Paul was an amazing guide. We proceeded from Oaxaca City directly to the “waterfalls” in a comfortable SUV. On the trip Paul gave us lots of information about the areas we were driving through and what to expect once we arrived. Upon arrival we were oriented to the site and then started a hike to view the waterfalls from various angles stopping to take pictures. Then we changed and experienced swimming in the mineral pools. Fantastic! From start to finish a wonderful experience. Highly recommend this tour and Paul.
The guide was upbeat and knowledgeable and was always available for questions and concerns. I really enjoyed the trip and glad we were able to have lunch together with the guides recommendations.
Had a wonderful experience visiting this unique and majestic place. We got there right as it opened, in the middle of the week, and there were few people. I had one of the pools to myself for half an hour and it was magical. I was having knee problems and did not do the hike down to the bottom of the larger falls, which is very steep and not good for people with mobility issues. Even the paved path up from the pools to the parking lot, although not far, was very steep. The area around the pools is fairly flat but can be slippery. The tour itself was fine and an easy way to visit this place. My one critique is that the guide did not give any heads up on details, like we would be stopping for bathroom breaks or eating lunch on site. The itinerary was very good nonetheless.
Paul was amazing. He was welcoming, punctual, informative and had a great vibe. He respects the locals and nature. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. 1000/10
Was a wonderful experience, great to go earlier in the morning so it was not as crowded. The site was amazing and we learned some interesting facts about the plant life in the area. Was amazing to swim in the pools after the hot hike as well. Only critique I had was that the tour description mentioned that water was provided, and as such, I did not bring my own water, and guide did not offer this to us before we started the hike, so I was very thirsty at some point, as I thought he would have brought some along. Just a note to make sure everyone is hydrated before starting the activity. Not a big issue but just to be aware for future tours🙏
A definite must do if you can. The hike may be challenging for some. Wear suitable shoes. The early morning start, and no other stops made this a great experience. This will be my favorite memory of this trip to Mexico.
Paul was an amazing guide and the whole trip was so much fun! I love the fact that the group was small and it felt intimate. I highly recommend.
Thanks Paul for the amazing trip! Highly recommended! Professional, well explained, really the tour that you want to do, avoiding tourist traps and unnecessary stops. Muchas gracias!
Really nice day exploring a super unique spot. Paul was great- really helpful and friendly. I forgot my sneakers and was able to walk the trail in sandals without a problem.
The site is spectacular - like nowhere else in the world. It was fun to swim in the (cold!) natural mineral water pools. More importantly, our guide, Paul, was wonderful: He was very solicitous and helpful to members of our group who worried that the hike might be too strenuous. (It IS fairly strenuous - wear good hiking shoes! -but they provide hiking poles, which are helpful.). Also, Paul has a deep knowledge of the area, the unusual trees and agave plants, and the indigenous people’s system for making mezcal - and his English is perfect.
We had a great visit to the Hierve el Agua with Paul! We loved the extra hiking and extended time at the falls. Local information was very helpful and informative. Super tour!
Excellent tour with Paul. Leaving early to beat the crowds and heat is well worth the early start!! The hike delivers breathtaking views of the falls, mountains and springs. Our local guide, Miguel was highly knowledgeable and explained about the various agaves and how the falls and pools are formed. For English only speakers, Paul’s English translation was excellent. Paul provided hiking poles, which was much appreciated by me, a 64 year old woman with arthritis. We had time to swim and cool off in the pools and to have lunch before returning to the city. There were 12 on the tour and the van was very comfortable. There was no rushing, it was a relaxed pace. One of the best things to do while visiting Oaxaca.
This entire experience was amazing and highly recommend. Paul was an amazing guide, and the entire experience was informative, well paced and truly unique. Bring your sneakers, sunscreen, a hat and a water bottle for the hike down and up the waterfall and bring your bathing suit and a towel for the pools (although the water is extremely cold). There are bathrooms and changing rooms for the pools, and the entire drive to and from the waterfall is about 1.5 hours each way. Cannot recommend the experience enough!
This is really worth the trip! And it is nice to travel early to get a head start. The guide was really good and took good care of everybody. The "waterfall" was impressive and unique. A really cool spot!
Enjoyed the tour. Avoided all the tourist trap locations and Luis our guide was excellent and gave us lots of local info about Oaxaca and also some great restaurant and bar recommendations. The hike was very chill. Got back into town at about 1:45pm which was perfect.
The park is enormous, but the area around the waterfall is concentrated and easy to experience. There are many stairs. Photos don't do it justice; this us absolutely worth seeing. You don't need to swim (my partner did). We came early on a weekday, and it was quiet and uncrowded. Our ticket included entrance fee and a guide. Luis, our driver and guide, was terrific. He engaged a guide in the park who told us about Hierve de Agua, plants, etc. (In Spanish). During the trip, Luis talked to us about Oaxaca State, the folks who live here, the history, mezcal, etc. Highy recommend this trip and Luis!
This was a great trip that took us straight to Hierve el Agua and after a short hike we were ready to cool off in the pools (very refreshing). The pools and views are just stunning! Then we stopped for a lunch at local restaurant before heading back. Overall, a great half-day trip!
On a whim, my wife and I decided to check out the half-day tour to Hierve el Agua, and could not have been happier! Our guide, Paul, was super-knowledgeable and we felt very safe in his care. The mountain and canyon views were nothing short of spectacular and warm mineral pools did wonders for my aches LOL. After a leisurely and informative tour of the area, we had a delicious lunch before heading back to Oaxaca. About 15 minutes after being dropped off, I realized I left something behind. Paul did not hesitate to come back and drop it off for me, thanks again Paul!
Paul, our tour guide was great. The trip starts early in the morning so we were there before the crowds--perfect! The hike is fairly rigorous, but incredibly beautiful!!! I highly recommend it.
This tour is exactly what it looks like on the tin – a beautiful half-day experience in breathtaking nature with a kind, organised, thoughtful, and intelligent guide (Paul) and his excellent colleague (Luis). Everything is perfectly organised – transport is comfortable, and the schedule is unhurried with time managed perfectly. We looked carefully for what we wanted and this was it. Can highly recommend.
I had a wonderful time on this tour and would definitely recommend it to others. The organization was smooth.
Our tour guide Luis did an incredible job. It was amazing hiking together in our group with a local guiding us as well. We learned about the community, the mineral springs and history of the land. The tour made our Oaxaca experience most memorable. It was fun and again thank you Luis for taking care of us at Hierve el Agua!
The tour was great and just long enough for kids (age 5, 7). Out kids are active. Paul was a knowledgeable tour guide. He was fun and enjoyed imparting his knowledge of the history. He also provided some lovely tips on local eats which was really grand.
This is a must do activity when visiting Oaxaca. Fanatic views and getting there early to beat the crowds was added bonus. Allowing us to still have the whole afternoon to explore Oaxaca. Well priced trip. Our guide Luis was brilliant - smiley friendly and approachable the whole trip. During the hike was brilliant at educating us on the local area and nature. Couldn’t recommend this trip more.
This was spectacular. The whole morning was perfect from start to finish. Can not recommend highly enough!
The tour was absolutely brilliant.- really smooth pickup and and journey and Paul was incredibly helpful and knowledgable and catered to our wants and needs. I really enjoyed myself as a solo traveller! Would recommend this tour to anyone!
Paul was a fantastic tour leader. Tour was exactly as per the description on the website - highly recommended.
Paul was an excellent guide and was sensitive to my partners physical limits. Took good care of us and pointed out alot of interesting things on the way to the falls.
