Joscelyn, our guide, for the hike. She was excellent and knowledgeable. She was also personable and accommodating; offering to take photos. She never left the slower ones in the group. The place is absolutely beautiful. The petrified waterfalls are worth seeing and swimming in the mineral pools.

Itinerary
Transfer time to Hierve el agua: You will be able to know the way to the route for one and half hour
Hierve el Agua is an impressive set of petrified waterfalls located in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. These natural formations originated from the accumulation of calcium carbonate over thousands of years, creating the appearance of "boiling water" over the cliffs. In addition to its natural beauty, Hierve el Agua offers opportunities to swim in natural pools and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, so bring your swimsuit and dive in. It is a popular tourist destination that combines impressive landscapes with unique geological elements. Here, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural pools and take an exciting hike of approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to the main waterfall. (Optional + local guide) The transfer to Hierve el Agua is 1 hour and a half one way and another hour and a half returning, giving a total of 6 hours.
Return to the city of Oaxaca for one hour and 30 minutes

Driver was friendly and a good driver. Guides areavailable when you get there, and highly recommended. He helped us with the different walk/hike paths available. We stopped at a mezcal distillery afterwards, and it was great! They have a big selection, including some not found elsewhere.
Had an amazing day at the Hierve del Agua! Federico was an amazing guide and was very knowledgeable about the landscape and the best photo spots! The optional hike was also a great experience and it was so good to be included in the price.
It was a lot of fun. The descent part of the hike is quite easy, the ascent can be difficult to the untrained but it’s quite a short ascent. The water is really nice to swim in and the guide was super informative. The whole tour from A-Z was super smooth. Highly recommend.
Nice tour and hike to the Hierve del Agua, well worth the time for the stunning views, the little hike and the dip into the pools! The guides were knowledgeable about the place and pointed out some interesting sights along the way also.
Francisco was a fantastic guide and Rigo was an excellent driver. 🙌🏼
No pick up point mentioned anywhere for my Oct 14 trip 😅
Everything was great! Loved the whole experience. Our driver was accompanying and knowledgeable. The hike was strenuous and a climb. Make sure to wear the proper shoes. After the hike you’re rewarded with the spring pools. And not to mention the spectacular views of the petrified waterfalls. A must do experience!
Perfect amount of time to hike the surrounding area and relax in the pool. Would probably be too long if you only went to the pool
This tour is the best to spend enough time in Hierve el Agua: 90 mn hike and 90 mn in the pools. There are bathrooms and changing rooms by the pools. You can buy food and snacks by the parking lot. Bring small bills and coins.
Great trip. Julia was an excellent facilitator. There is no guided tour included in this booking, but she went above and beyond! She led my kids on a short walk to a scenic spot, and talked to them about the regional history and wildlife. She is very knowledgeable in her field.
Beautiful scenery. The hike and the pools were amazing. An excellent day with an excellent guide, Francisco.
Good tour overall, the guide was very good and got some great photographs! Things were explained well in both English & Spanish.
Avoid by all means, they cancelled evening before by mail leaving us with no options, be aware of such operators
Awesome trip to the falls. We specifically chose this one as it is a half day and just focused on what we wanted to see without distractions.
Great trip. The steps down to the bottom of the waterfall are tough, and im in pretty good shape. Some are really tall.
The Hierve el Agua location was very sunny the day of my trip. If other people have similar conditions on the day of their trip, then a wide brimmed hat is probably a good idea and also plenty of water for the hike. If you're prone to sunburn, take sunscreen or wear a long sleeve shirt.
Very nice day trip! We were picked up near our hotel and our guide gave us nice information about the history of Oaxaca and the environment on our way to the Hierve el Agua. At the place, we did a nice hike together with our guide and a local guide. They were both passionate and friendly in informing us during the hike. After the hike we had 1,5 hour to have a nice swim. During our way back, our guide also gave some nice tips for the rest of our holiday.
Such an awesome tour , the tour guide did a great job of explaining everything to us on the way . Also a very beautiful place to visit .
10/10 experience. Vladimir was an extremely informative and engaging guide. On arriving at Hierve el Agua, we had a second local guide, I believe Leo was his name, who took us on a guided hike which ended at the pools at no extra cost (there was also the option to go straight to the pools or shorten the hike depending on each individual's preference - we all opted to do the full hike though, which was very doable for most people of normal fitness levels). An added bonus was that there were only four of us total (2 couples), so it was almost a private tour. On the way back we were given the option to stop at a Mezcal distillery and have a tasting session, which we all opted for at no extra cost. Highly recommended!
This is a very basic tour. Valeria was nice as the guide but essentially this was 1.5 hr. drive in the small van each way-then dropped off for 3 hrs. That's it. The water pools were okay. Didn't do the hike to the limestone cascades as it was a hot day.
Beautiful place to visit, Valeria was a great guide and you get a good amount of time at the end of the short hike to look around/chill/take a dip in the pools. Very scenic journey from Oaxaca into the mountains
Very interesting rock formations, and then a nice swim at the end, some moderate hiking up and down in the heat
Amazing boat trip through the canyon. We saw crocodiles, monkeys and many birds in this national park guided and driven by welcoming professionals.
Take snacks with you as there are only stalls at the top! Remember sun cream as it’s really hot & hardly any shade. We didn’t do the hike as we got there at midday so was super hot, instead just walked to a little hut you can see after dipping in the pools. The pools are not warm!!
Very good experience ! I really liked it
Such a beautiful experience! Staff was so kind and educated! Would 100% recommend! I went as a solo traveler and had no troubles at all.
What a beautiful place! We enjoyed our tour and our guide, Michelle and totally recommend the half day tour. We found this one activity was plenty for one day.
Great day out! Easy pick up from the pick up point. Our guide was really lovely. You get the option once you arrive to go on a hike with a guide first then onto the pools. I would only go on the hike if you are fit and used to walking as it's very hot there and a steep walk back to the pools. You can't wear suncream in the water so make sure you bring a hat and loose top to swim in. There's places to buy food and drink, as well as changing rooms, showers and toilets. Would recommend!
We met the van at 10:30 am and drove to the site. By the time we started down the trail it was around noon. We hiked down to view the waterfall and then had to hike up a very steep climb in the blazing heat. I was feeling unwell and likely had heat exhaustion. I would have been a much better trip had it started earlier rather that at the hottest part of the day. Our guide was very caring and once I got in the mineral pools I felt much better.
Had an amazing tour, our tour guide was so knowledgeable about the history of the area, the people and the agave/mezcal! He showed us important sights on the drive in and was really helpful at explaining each stage of the tour and making sure we were having a good time. Thank you so much!
Tour is meh. Expensive bus ride to the falls. There are many reviews out there describing this as hot springs... It is NOT. The hike is steep, if you are not used to it or are old so be mindful and water is freezing cold. The food at the courts is great. Best quesadilla ever.
The destination was great and local guide Aurelio made it even better, Julia and Rigoberto with Oaxaca Tours very good too.
Really enjoyed this trip, very scenic and relaxing, worth doing. Guide and driver were very professional
A fantastic geographical site - well worth a visit. Our guide was helpful and knowledgable. It’s worth doing the walk too.
Very stimulating and interesting tour. Vlad was a excellent guide and a real fountain of knowledge. He was also very attentive and professional .
Bring water, a hat, and water shoes, if needed, but NO Sunscreen! The pool is protected and drained once/month so the less sunscreen chemicals, the better for all to enjoy. Our local native guide, Julia, explained the flora, fauna and history of Hierve el Agua., adding to this unique experience. The tour started at 10:30a and ended at 4:45p. We paid $83 for 2 seniors…money well spent!
Well organized, everything on time, very friendly guide Valeria, stunning views! Enjoyed it a lot! Highly recommended!
Our guide Julia was excellent. She was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. The van was comfortable with ample leg room. The educational commentary on the van en route to the site was appreciated.
We enjoyed the bilingual guides Julia and Vladimir as my husband speaks some spanish but not well enough. We had great time in the hike and enjoyed the pools very much. Instructions were clear and everything went smooth as planned.
The climb down and up is difficult but worth it. If you have hiking poles definitely take them!!! Pools are a bit chilly but after the climb it was refreshing. Scenery all around was picturesque.
The view from the pools is spectacular. There are free change rooms at the pools so you can change in to and out of your bathing suit. Bathrooms are 5 pesos and very clean.
Happy I chose this tour, it was a very windy day and even still so it was very enjoyable. We had amazing tour guides and they also allowed free time to do our own thing, so either swim, hike, shop, eat, etc. which I really enjoyed!
Everything perfect. Really cool guide. Straight to the site no detour. And really ponctual and confortable.
The guide has rich knowledge and very friendly, very nice and patient. We have had wonderful experiences in this beautiful site
Great trip with two unexpected drops at a local bread maker and mezcal distillery. Loads of time to see the site and trails plus the water pools. The guide was good and the transfer driver was very good.
Poncho our guide was amazing! Very professional and helpful. Took extra care of us as a bit more senior than the other people! Hierve el Agua was beautiful and a lively way to spend the day.
The hike to the pool is not bad. Most in our group did not make it all the way. For anyone 60+ that does not have good knees/elevation is very hard
Hierve el agua was a spectacular place. We hired a local guide, and even though we don't speak Spanish, he knew all the best spots for the photos, so it was well worth it. We stopped for a mezcal tasting on the drive back, which we didn't expect, but it was interesting.
This was a bit of a strange experience. We were with a small group on the bus but very free to do what we wanted. Hierve El Agua is a wonderful place to visit and we had plenty of time out there to enjoy it (about 2h30 on site - enough time to go do the hike around the site which is about 45min and then swim / bathe in the cool pools and eat). We arrived around noon so be aware that if you go on the hike, it's at the hottest time of the day and that shade is almost non-existent. It's still very beautiful but if I had paid better attention to the time, I would have preferred a trip that left earlier. Also, this was not a straight and back trip despite being advertised as such. We stopped on the way to the site at a bakery for a few minutes (pit stop) and on the way back to a mezcal shop (where we were told about the process and offered to taste some). Both were fine places to stop to, we just weren't aware before we were on our way on the bus. We ended up taking 2h to get to Hierve El Agua and 2h20 back so also be aware that this is a 6+ hours trip.
