This tour was so great!! Our tour guide was Margarita, she was amazing! I don't think this day would have been the same without her! All fees were included in this tour which was super convenient! The road to Hierve el Agua is tricky, but our driver Emmanuel was such a pro! We had plenty of time to cite see, swim and eat! And the best part, the Mezcal!

An unforgettable day out – Leon made the tour! We had an amazing day exploring Hierve el Agua and visiting the local mezcal distilleries in Oaxaca. The scenery at Hierve el Agua was incredible, and the mezcal tour was a brilliant way to learn about the local culture and traditions. However, the real highlight of the day was our tour guide, Leon. He was an absolute legend – friendly, knowledgeable, funny, and genuinely passionate about what he does. He made everyone feel welcome, kept the day entertaining, and went above and beyond to make sure we all had the best experience possible. He really brought the whole tour to life and made it so much more than just visiting the sights. If you’re thinking about doing this tour, I couldn’t recommend it enough, especially if you get Leon as your guide. He made the entire day unforgettable! 10/10 experience – ask for Leon!
Margarita and Kevin led a great tour. Hierve el Agua is very scenic and the Mezcal distillery was very cool- the tasting was bottomless!
Had an amazing time on this tour to Hierve el Agua! Everything was well organized from start to finish, and the experience itself was unforgettable. The views are absolutely stunning, and getting to explore such a unique natural site was incredible. What really made the trip special, though, was the group and our guide. It was a group of 10 really fun, friendly people, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Our guide was both knowledgeable and entertaining, sharing interesting facts while keeping the energy light and fun throughout the day. One of the highlights was visiting a mezcal distillery for a tour and tasting. Even though I’m not usually the biggest fan of mezcal, I really came to appreciate it after learning about the process and trying a few varieties. It added a unique cultural touch to the experience. Overall, it was a perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and great company. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Oaxaca!
Absolutely would recommend this tour, our tour guide Leon and driver Otto. The guide was fantastic. He has great experience and enthusiasm.
The pacing was really nice and the group was small and friendly. Leon was a very charming host! He gave us options of what we wanted to do and how long to spend at each place, so although it wasn't a private tour we still felt like we had some control over the day. He was funny and gave excellent food recommendations! Hierve is magical place to visit, take a small hike and swim in the pools. Good facilities there and food stalls- we had memelitas and a banging tlayuda! Leon gave us the option for a few extra stops at a bakery for delicious tamales with agua de chocolate, and also the Tula tree. The Mezcal distillery tour was excellent, Santiago was a knowledgeable guy and the dog quesadillas was so cute. The only thing I would have liked to do in addition was the chance to walk through the agave fields. We got back with enough to time to still have a lovely evening dinner in Oaxaca City, as well as it was too early start. Thanks Leon for such a great experience I'll never forget!!
The hike is nice, and even if the water is freezing, I recommend going for a swim! Leon was a really great tour guide.
Great guides and great experiences. Hierva del aqua was fantastic and the Mezcal tasting well organized. Mezcal was good too.
This trip was great! Margarita was so fun and energetic. The drive wasn't too long and the stop at the bakery along the way was great. Hierve del Agua was well worth the trip and 3 hours was the perfect amount of time to go on the long hike, swim in the pools, and have a bite to eat after. The distillery was a lot of fun - be prepared to drink a lot of mezcal! Overall would definitely recommend. It was a great day.
Awesome trip with Margarita and Rodrigo. Stopped at a bakery first and had some good bread. Then headed to Hierve el Agua which was our primary destination and it did not disappoint. We hiked the full loop for best view of the petrified waterfalls and then had time to take a dip in the refreshing pools and finished with a quick bite to eat. Then headed to a mezcal factory to learn about the process of making the mezcal. And had tastings where we tried 15 different flavors and they were generous with the pours. Both guides were very knowledgeable about the area and Oaxacan culture and we learned a lot of facts. and made the tour interesting and fun. I would recommend oaxaca by locals company and definitely Margarita and Rodrigo.
Stef was a great host, engaging and funny throughout. The trip also felt like we had the perfect amount of time in each place
Margarita was very knowledgeable and funny, the timings of the trip were just right for those who wanted to hike and those who didn’t, loved the stops at the Bakery and the Mezcal Distillery, really interesting. Carlos the driver was a very safe driver 🙏
Everything was wonderful The guides were extremely informative and super up beat and made for a great group experience. We also had superb weather which definitely made the hiking experience a day to remember The mezcal tasting was very enjoyable and provided a good understanding of the types and processes that go into making mezcal I highly recommend recommend this for a great day trip while in Oaxaca
Excellent trip to Hierve al agua. Enjoyed visiting the bakery and the fabulous hike around the falls, swim was so refreshing and buying lunch there was great. Also enjoyed learning about making mezcal and they were very generous with the tastings. It was plenty to do in one day. Love tours by this company.
Great tour led by Adriel, who was affable and informative. I would definitely recommend to those wanting to visit hierve el Agua and for a foray into the world of mezcal.
Love the experience but I think it should be shorter trip ………,….to much time in the Mezcal distillery
Fanny was our guide and she was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and had great energy. We got to quickly visit a panadería with delicious food, spend plenty of time at hierve el agua, and then had an informative and fun mezcal tour and tasting. One of our favorite parts of our trip! Thanks, Fanny!
Great tour to Hierve el Agua and Mezcal Distillery. Nice Van and excellent tour guide. Plenty of time at Hierve el Agua to take a hike.
We had the best time with Margerita and Pinky! They were easily able to adapt to the bloqueos and still managed to do everything on the Hierve el agua tour. We had plenty of time at Hierve el Agua, the bakery and the Mezcal tasting. I would highly recommend booking with Oaxaca by Locals so you get the most authentic experience and support the locals that know the most about the area.
We had the best time with Margarita and Pinky. The meetup location was easy to find and they even sell coffees and snacks. I loved how organized and prompt everything was. Our tour guide Margarita was full of sweet energy, her and the driver Pinky, taught us a lot about Oaxaca and Mezcal. We stopped at a bakery on the way to Hierve el Agua and sampled some of the most amazing authentic sweet Oaxacan bread. The drive to Hierve el Agua was smooth and Margarita put on a fun playlist for us to listen to. Once we got to location, we were off on our own to explore for about 3 hours. There are tour guides there to hire if you want to hike but every one is local. Make sure you bring change with you for the bathrooms. The water was freezing but the views of Oaxaca were breathtaking. There is plenty of time to hike, explore, bath, drink, and eat. Also, the dogs at the location are the sweetest in the whole world. The drive to the distillery took about 40 minutes but it was so worth it! You get to sample so much Mezcal and the prices are unbeatable. My friend and I even tried worms for the first time. I highly recommend this excursion!
Great tour. Duration and contents was perfect. Our guide Miguel was very informative and great to be with. Thank you so much.
The hike was more physically demanding than expected. A few of us had issues with the altitude but we all enjoyed the scenery and especially the water pools at the end. We wished we would have had more time at the pools and would have skipped the distillery tour for more time at the Hierve el Agua. Our guide was amazing. She was knowledgeable and fun to be around. I highly recommend this tour!
Our tour guide Veronica had great energy and was very friendly. We enjoyed the bread tasting at the start of the day and the petrified waterfalls were amazing to look at! We dipped our feet in the natural pools to cool down and then had lunch at Comedor Diana, recommended by Veronica. The Mezcal tasting was very interesting and we bought a few souvenirs!
Oaxaca by Locals was recommended by a friend who visits Oaxaca frequently. I liked the friendly, knowledgeable vibe of the tour and the price was extremely fair. I highly recommend Hierve el Agua and the Mezcal distillery. Bring a hat! I also did the art walk and that was also great, and a great way to understand more about the culture of Oaxaca.
This trip was lovely. You got the opportunities of taking a bath in the pools, and of course taking a walk. The walk can be little bit hard, but deffinetely worth it.
We had a great time! Our guide, Tanya, was fantastic, very energetic and knowledgeable, with some great tips for the rest of our stay in Oaxaca. The hike was a challenge but manageable, and the pools were very refreshing after the hot walk!
Very well organised, comfortable transfers and lots of good information. Well worth it. Although the hike at the site has to be done by a local person ( I.e in Spanish)there is generally some who can translate. It’s a nice way to spend a few hours out of the city
Wonderful day and super value tour! Easy to find and check in. Great mercedes sprinter bus and left on time! Julio was an excellent host, Shared good info but not intrustive. Hierve de Agua is totally worth it but note the loop hike around it gets very hot and can be steep. Not for beginners or sandals on feet! 3 hours was perfect to explore, hike, dip in the pools and grab a bit to eat. People were in pools but a bit too cold for us to go all the way in, we just waded on edge. I can't imagine cramming it into the tours other groups offer that add even more stops. Mezcal Distillery was cool and informative and gave as many tastings as wanted. Tired at end of a great day!
We did the Only Hierve el Agua and Mezcal Distillery Tour and we would recommend this so highly! We had the best tour guide ever, Rodrigo and driver, Manuel. Really informative and funny and day was structured so well allowing a great amount of time at each stop! Great value for money as such a brilliant trip.
We had an incredible time. It was almost cancelled the night before due to rain but we asked if we could still continue and were so glad we did. We were the only ones booked in, so it was a private tour. It was a bit gray and the water was a little cold, but we're from the UK so were used to worse! Hierve El Agua was incredible and so worth visiting. We had a good few hours swimming in the pools before the rain picked up. And it wasn't too busy when we were there. We didn't do the hike to the top of the waterfall and decided to be lazy, but that's an option for those who want the walk. (You get a good view of the waterfall from the pools) The tour was organised amazingly well - we stopped off at a bakery in the morning, were treated to some amazing mango for lunch and the mezcal tasting in the afternoon was great. Our tour guide was lovely and very informative but also let us do our own thing at the pools. The drive up there is a little bumpy but very worth it. We'd definitely recommend Oaxaca by Locals.
Good day trip to see the waterfalls. They are worth visiting. We had a decent amount of time there and then the mezcal tasting on the way back. Our guide tania was very informative and helpful
Coco nuestro guía fue cordial, informativo y paciente. We enjoyed our tour! Coco was very courteous, knowledgeable, and a very safe driver. We plan on going with them on our next visit!
Highly recommended. The guide puts a lot of love in it, it keeps telling you anecdotes and curiosities.
