We had no guide that traveled to the sites with us (and no information at all given at the Tule tree or Hierve el agua), only a driver. The main problem is that this is advertised as a bilingual tour… I am glad I speak Spanish and English. When we boarded the van, nothing was said to us until we got to the Tule tree, and then it was just that we had 30 min to walk around. No information about the site or its significance. However what was said, was in Spanish only, so I translated for some of the non-Spanish speakers, who, bear in mind, thought they signed up for an English tour. When we got to the next stops, a Spanish/English speaking participant of the group had to translate the instructions that were given from the driver. It is not the fault of the participants for not knowing Spanish if they signed up for a tour that was advertised as being in English… and that was for the stops where we had a guide.
It's a great experience, time goes so quick, really experienced guide and driver, bring some cash it's not necessary but it's nice to have
That it is a must when they visit Oaxaca. The tour was amazing. Angel the guide was outstanding. Amazing.
The views were genuinely good. Our bus driver was amazing, took care of my entire group. Mezcal tasting was a wonderful final event. The artisan experience, alongside Angel our host, was amazing. The art was amazing.
Very well organized, good driver, excellent guide, very knowledge and funny, long trip but worth it, would recommend!
Long day, but totally worth it! I loved the variety of activities, the fun international group and the masterful tour guide. I felt that I got to SEE Oaxaca, from pre Columbia to modern times. The calcified waterfalls were better that any pictures I saw before hand and were the highlight of the day. There was a great balance of tour and solo time.
Our tour was absolutely fantastic and exceptionally well-planned. From start to finish, everything was seamless, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience. Our guide, Angel, was outstanding. His deep knowledge of each site, combined with his gift for storytelling, brought history to life in a way that was both engaging and informative. You could truly see his passion for his work, which made the tour even more special. Beyond just sharing facts, he made every moment captivating, and we thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with him. Our driver, Hector, was an absolute gem—kind, courteous, and always looking out for us. He ensured we traveled comfortably and safely, always ready to lend a hand as we got in and out of the vehicle. Together, Angel and Hector made this tour an unforgettable experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better team, and we highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an amazing journey!
Great value a full day. Get to see alot of places. Angel tour guide was very knowledgeable and passion about Oaxaca.
This tour was fantastic! There is a great diversity of destinations and you learn a lot about local indigenous cultures. Our tour guide Angel was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The van was very comfortable and everything was well organized. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and would recommend it to anyone looking to get out of Oaxaca for a full day!
Angel was a wonderful guide. We had a great trip! Tour is quite long but great option for someone who wants to cover many sights on one day. Herve del aqua is beautiful and it was interesting to see the mezcal distilling process too.
This is a great tour if you have limited time in Oaxaca, this day trip will give you the experience of true Oaxacan culture, my favorite was driving through the sierra madre mountains to see Hierve el agua (boil water) the amazing petrified waterfall, the view is amazing! The lunch buffet was great, got to taste a little bit of many traditional foods. Textile making was super interesting, talk about sustainability and using everything that nature gives you to create this amazing Art! And of course, Mezcal, Oaxaca water! Mezcal tasting in the palenque was amazing! Our guide was super nice and friendly and explain everything step by step. Our Oaxacan native guide spoke perfect English, I was blown away! I 100% recommend this trip.
I had a great time visiting the various points of interest around Oaxaca. I especially enjoyed the mezcal tasting and the fabulous restaurant buffet.
I took the all-day tour that included the giant tree in Santa Maria Tule, the hand-dyed and hand-woven rug factory in Teotitlán, Hierve de Agua, the ruins in Mitla, and a mezcal factory in Tlacolula. Moses was our guide, and he was excellent. He had a lot of energy and had lots to say about every place we visited. He made the trip very interesting. I was blown away be the processes involved in making the rugs. From how the sheep’s wool is turned into yarn, to how it is dyed, and then woven – all was very interesting and impressive. Hieve de Agua was unique. I walked down to the third viewpoint and was impressed with this amazing, gigantic statue created by nature. The restaurant we stopped at for lunch had lots of different choices and everything I ate was delicious. The mezcal factory was a fun finale to the day. One word of advice – Bring a snack to eat along the way. We didn’t eat lunch until 3:30pm.
The guides were attentive, accomodating, knowledgeable, and considerate. I will book a tour again when I return to Oaxaca.
I rarely leave a bad review but this one is warranted and I would hate for you to waste your money. The minibus driver is essentially the tour guide. However someone did meet us briefly at Tule Tree, Teotitlan del Valle and Mitla. who spoken very broken English. And unfortunately for me, the driving did not speak a word of English so half the time I had no clue where i was, what the next stop was or what was happening. This was frustrating as I did select that I wanted the english tour guide. AT Teotitlan del Valle the presenter/ weaver explained the whole process in her native tongue, however when it came to trying to sell the rugs she was able to speak english fluently At Hierve el Agua the minibus driver just dropped us at the car park, and we had to find our own way to the spring. Thankfully there was other tourists that could point me in the direction of where the spring was. There was of course people charging to guide you to the springs. PLEASE DO NOT PAY FOR THIS. Once you find the paved path it is just a 15min walk down hill The Buffet is the worst lukewarm poorest representation of Mexican cuisine ever and not worth it. The mezcal tasting experience was also tragic. When we got there we were just walked around the small n courtyard and given the option to sample 4 mezcals. To finish we was taken to a bakery ... why i do not know. This was random as it was not on the description. we was given a talk about the bread (in spanish) by giggling boys and of course was encouraged to the buy baked goods At every point of this tour, we either had to PAY EXTRA to access the sites or was expected to make a purchase. The sites are incredible and worth seeing, but considering you still have to provide your own entrance fee and the lack of guidance, I would plan your own excursion!
IT WAS GREAT!...WORTHEVERY PENNY!...Its a fun and memorable time. The guide was great and very well knowledgeon the sitea and facts....
Very nice Tour, much of sightseeing, high professional guide, excellent organisation. Warmly recommended
Very good day trip from Oaxaca. They picked us up right from our doorstep but upon returning, they dropped us 15 minutes walk away.
Amado was an excellent driver, was highly competent and honest. It was a great tour - everything advertised was included with a perfect amount of time allocated to each stop on the tour. It was a long day - 12 or 13 hours - and it was worth every minute. I definitely recommend this tour.
The tour guide was excellent. Really knowledgeable and brought the destinations to life. Mitla and Hierve el Agua are must sees. We would have loved to know the end time of the tour. Didn't arrive back until 730pm.
First half of the tour was great - the guide was knowledgeable and eager to help, answer all the questions I had and also spoke pretty good English. We saw the Tule tree and visited Mitla archaeological ruins, followed by the handicrafts demonstration which was impressive and then the Mezcal tasting which was fun. However the second half became a little unorganised as the tour guide had to escort back one of the tourists, leaving the rest of the group at mercy of the Spanish speaking driver and a local guide. We had to hike to the dried up limestone waterfalls which was anyway tricky because of the high temperature and with the local guide who wouldn't explain anything in English, navigating the terrain was difficult. Rest, it was a satisfactory tour.
This has been the worst experience. The company did not inform the tour guide about what my package included. I had to be following and reminding him. The visits to the sites were self-guided as we were just dropped off with minimal or nonexistent explanation of the place or how to navigate. I was charged $78 USD, and others only paid $200 or $300 pesos. Big difference. A complete disappointment.
My partner and I are backpackers and we could not recommend this company enough. From the two gentlemen at the desk, to the tour guide, to the bus driver, everyone was so friendly and had a clear passion about what they do. We did the full day tour and couldn't believe the value for money in relation to other tours within the area. The guides information about the palace in Mitla was the standout for us (his English was also fantastic!). Thank you for having us Lescas Co Tours!
Wouldn't recommend. Organisation not great as meeting point unclear and despite arriving early my partner and I were separated on the very cramped minibus and in the worst seats with no chance to sit together over the course of a very long day. The tour tries to fit in too much and some stops are too long e.g. lunch, Tule tree and Hierve el Agua. Didn't get to mezcal tasting til after 6 by which point most just wanted to get back. Lunch buffet was also very poor quality. I'd suggest doing a shorter tour to make it more enjoyable. The tour guide himself was very good though but was only around for just over half the day.
Fantastic and completely day. Our guide Miguel Angel was very insightful, patient and friendly. Did every stop worth seeing and at the best price!
Angell, our guide was upbeat and informative literally on Christmas! From the world's widest tree to learning about handmade Zapotec rugs and seeing the history of Mitla, my family and I truly enjoyed our adventures in the Oaxacan countryside. If you want to swim in Hierva al Agua (I did) be warned that it's cold and bring a towel and flip-flops unless you want sandy feet :) Mezcal tasting was fun but it would be nice to visit smaller distilleries so that the tourist dollars are more evenly distributed than these larger tour bus circuit stops. I miss Oaxaca already!
Great staff, really supportive and knowledgeable. They were patient and took the time to explain the different aspects of the tour well
The first half of the tour was very informative and felt relaxed (Tule, rug making, and Mitla) The second half felt rushed and the guide didn’t really have much to say about boil the water. We were only there for 1.5 hours, but after using the restroom and walking all the way down to it, felt more like 40 minutes. Wish we were there longer and guide would have talked to us about it. The mezcal tasting was fun. The person that worked there talked to us about the process of making it. If I were to do it again, I would seperate them. Much to see and do!
Awesome !!! If this your first time in Oaxaca , gotta do it !!! Our guide was really good Si es su primera vez en Oaxaca, este tour es buenisimo , un poco de todo para todos
Boil the water is a great place to visit, our trip was a later in the afternoon and started to get a bit cold ,so unable to dip in the pool. The other visits were good places to stop and capture the history and local traditions being still traded.
Good and affordable tour. The guides at the sites were really good and the sites definitely worth visiting if you have a full day available in Oaxaca. If buffet restaurant is not your thing, byo lunch, because you are taken to a hotel with just the buffet food option (which is the only downside for me).
Dreadful experience. Spent an hour driving round town before we set off and we passed our hotel again twice. Poor organisation. Apart from at the ruin site very little information was given on the order of the day. We did not have an English speaking guide for most parts of the day. The water falls were not worth the gruelling journey and seemed to be more of a resort way past it prime. All the toilets on this trip were awful even when you paid for them The buffet lunch was okay but a bit of a bun fight and you had to queue for ages. Opportunity to buy carpets and mescal. Dropped off at one site to ve told that's the tree there's the toilets. Would certainly not recommend this tour. You have to pay for all your entrances although they do say this on the website. Also they say small groups, your not really we had at least 40 in two buses.
We enjoyed visiting the Tule Tree, Mitla, and even the weaving demonstration. Our issues were with the fact that Hierve el Agua was the last stop and the sun was already going down and the wind was chilly. I had worn a swimsuit that looks like shorts, thinking I would dry quickly, but I was determined to go in the water at this beautiful place. We should've gone to Hierve el Agua FIRST, with the other places on the way back. As it was, my suit couldn't dry, the wind was freezing, and I had to buy a pair of shorts to change into at the craft market there. The 2nd issue was the mezcal tasting: saying it's over 40 "flavors" is b.s. We tried 4 or 5 types of mezcal and the rest were flavored creamy liqueurs with barely a hint of mezcal in them, and it still didn't add up close to 40. If you tasted each one, maybe 15-20 total. So, do this tour at the height of summer if you want to swim at Hierve el Agua, or do a shorter tour with fewer stops. Oh, and the buffet lunch at Donaji was low quality, cafeteria food.
Awesome tour for you to get to know many of the most important places in Oaxaca, I got to share the tour with awesome people too so I really enjoyed it. I put 4/5 because it didn’t include the fee for every place you went to, but overall it was pretty cool. Much recommended!
I don't have the patience to detail all of the disappointments we had with this excursion, but I agree with other negative reviews on this site. To summarize: Website says 6 to 12 hours, but it was a FULL 12 hours . The timing of the stops was accurate, but what they don't tell you is how far each site is and there was a LOT of driving (sometimes on bumpy dirt roads). The extra cost for admissions was a hassle and wasn't really explained well in the description. We signed up for an English tour, but it was more like 80% Spanish and 20% English. The van was clean and nice, but we were the last guests to be picked up and had to spend the entire trip at the very back of the bus for 12 hours. Lunch was mediocre. I'm getting annoyed all over again just writing this, but I felt like I needed to try and help other travelers to know the truth about this excursion.
It was super smooth and a lot was put in the day. Our guide Angel really was an angel. Very informative and good storytelling. I felt like we had enough time at every stop even though it was short so that we could fit everything in.
Really good tour, bring water and hat for the sun..Guide was honest..informational and great...............................two thumbs up
This was a looong tour. But it covered a lot and gave an appropriate amount of time at each attraction. The value was great for as much as we saw in a day. Angel was the guide and he is wonderful. Engaging and informative. Speaks both Spanish and English. No food is included but there are stops for lunch at a decent, reasonable buffet and later at a bakery. Would recommend this tour.
Hierve el Agua was absolutely amazing! Such a beautiful place, with the mountains as a backdrop. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, as you will be doing LOTS of very high stairs. Our guide was incredible fit and nimble, and helped us take great photos. The visit to the weaving workshop taught us all about the weaving methods traditions there (bring your $$). The mezcal tasting tour was informative—and tasty. Mitla and Tule were cool as well. We had a great driver, who kept the vibe pleasant with great music. His ability to navigate those narrow mountain roads is nothing short of commendable. A great trip!
A full day of activities. Beautiful views, friendly tour guides. We were also picked up by our air bnb which was super convenient
Was a good tour overall and glad we picked this one. - good variety of activities - comfortable van and good driver - picked us up and dropped us home - loved the rug workshop, so beautiful. - knowledgeable guide Only 4 stars because - mezcal tour was a bit disappointing. - guide for ruins wasn’t very knowledgeable - good spot for lunch Be prepared to pay your entrance around $200 each person.
I would like to begin by saying that the tour guide, Angel, was amazing. He is passionate, knowledgeable and super friendly. 5 stars for him! However, we found the overall tour quite underwhelming. The bus was extremely small. I'm 6'2 and could not fit in the seat without sitting sideways, I was left with lots of body pains at the end of the day. The mezcal tasting was at breakfast time and offered around 8 varieties as opposed to the 25 that were mentioned. The main event, Hierve el Agua, was so busy to the point where you could not get in the hot springs and probably didn't want to with the high numbers or children. So based on this I wouldn't recommend the tour.
Mitla, Hierve de Agua, Árbol de Tule, El Rey de Matatlan Mezcaleria, Manos Tejiendo Tapetes, and Panadería Tradicional Yazmín. This tour was very busy and overcrowded at times probably due to it being Semana Santa. All of the stops are very interesting and the guide Angel was well informed and bilingual although at times too soft spoken to be heard by all. One guide was shared between various vans of 22 people and separated from us after the lunch. The driver was then our guide for the last two stops and was an excellent driver and guide. I think everyone felt a lack of organization in managing the large groups from start to finish. Door to door was 13 hours so it was a very long day.
First part of the tour with an English speaking guide was excellent. The second part with no guide was disappointing in particular as this was the main part of the tour. As there are no signs at the top of Hierve and the local guides or the bus driver did not speak English a map or written directions would be useful.
The trip was good. However we only had an English tour guide for the first part. The last half of the trip I had to get someone to translate what the driver was saying. There were also a lot more people than 20 on the trip. It was okay because we were in two buses. Hierve de Agua would have been much better with some explanation. However, It was nice to swim on a hot day. The company should consider adding all of the admissions to the total price. It was very annoying to have to come up with payment each time for a site admission.
Wonderful well paced trip - we especially enjoyed the parts we didn’t think we’d like- the mezcal factory and rug artisans were really interesting. Miguel our guide and Jorge our driver were professional and fun. Our van was extremely clean and nice. The 11 hours went by very fast . When I left my cell phone on board the van , they went out of their way to return it to me. I would highly recommend this tour company. Really loved the day!!
We had signed up for a Mitla and Hierve el Agua trip and picked this one specifically because it did not mention mezcal or handcrafts. So it was disappointing that it took 5 hours to get to the first destination, after stops were they were trying to sell us things
This was an absolutely wonderful tour and I don’t usually take tours unless I have to. Everything was on time. The buffet lunch was surprisingly good and we had plenty of time at each stop. Make sure you see the Hierve el Agua, but enjoy the Tule tree, local weavers, mezcal making and Mitla ruins. Our guide, Angel, was fabulous bringing each site alive with his descriptions. Well worth the whole day spent touring.
We really enjoyed this whole tour. I thought that the price we paid was a very good value. It is important to note that you will need to bring some extra money for the following: 1. 5 pesos coins for the restrooms 2. Lunch + drinks at lunch 3. Admission for the tree (20 pesos), Mitla site (50 pesos?) and Hierve el Agua (70 pesos) -- best to have exact cash for these if possible We also purchased rugs from the textile factory and mezcal from El Rey de Matatlan -- you can use a credit card for these. At El Rey you can only use a credit card if purchasing 800 pesos worth or more. Also you should definitely tip your driver -- they are putting in over 11 hours driving you around and having to ensure everyone is getting back into the van! While there was not one dedicated guide throughout the whole experience, this was not a problem for me and the driver did a good job of finding English speaking guides at each site we visited. Also, Miguel who works with the tour company did an awesome job of translating to English when we visited the rug factory. Highly recommend and this is such a good way to see all the sights that would otherwise require you to book a taxi!
