This was a day of wonderful experiences. Our guide, Adriel (sorry if that is spelt wrong!) was absolutely fantastic. He gave us a local angle as well as the history and context of our visits. He was really considerate of all of our individual needs. Our driver was great, we felt safe even on the windy mountain roads, I think his name was Enrico. I highly recommend this days tour.

Adriele and the driver were excellent throughout the trip. I learned so much and the experience went very smoothly.
Great experience and guide. It was very organized and comfortable
Great, we went to a lot of places and the tour is 13 hours long. Pretty tired after the tour but it was fun!
Great tour visiting 5 sites with our excellent guide Kevin. Kevin is very friendly and knowledgeable and he helped make it be a fun experience. Tule, Mitla and Hierve were all wonderful visits and the Tequila tasting was a blast.
This was one of the best tours I’ve been on! Everything about it was incredible and our guide, Fanny (Estafanie) was wonderful!!! She was so much fun and so knowledgeable and made the trip so much better! Highly highly highly recommend!!!!
We spent the day touring with Steph. She was fun, funny and very well versed on the history of all the sites we went to. Really great tour and guide! Highly recommend and ask for Steph.
Full day of interesting sites and fun. Manuel and Adriel did a great job of listening to individual needs and helping each of us have a wonderful day.
It was a really great trip! Perfect locations and everything flowed smoothly. My tour guide was fun, kind, organized, helpful, and patient. He shared really interesting facts about the city and made the trip fun for everyone! I had a fun time.
Choose any other tour provider. They don’t provide support when you need it and further they lied to Viator about my request for assistance. Get your guide is a much better booking platform
An amazing all encompassing experience! If you have limited time in Oaxaca, or if you’re there for a few days, you have to do this tour. It has a little bit of everything for everyone, and seeing the Mitla archaeological site was super cool. The pools at hierve del agua were a bit cool in October but still manageable. Kevin was also a really great tour guide. 10/10 would recommend!
We traveled around 20% of Oaxaca and had a wonderful time seeing the sights with Kevin and Angel! We fortunately saw the tule tree during a festival in which we got to touch the tree, which was cool. Definitely recommend the tour!! The buffet was good too!
This is an example of how a tour should be run - everything happened as described, on time and clearly explained along the way. Kevin made sure the group bonded as one cohesive unit we had a great time and the little surprises and touches Kevin layered on throughout the day was Great! Book this if you want to go to these Oaxacan sites!
Wonderful way to see so much of outside of Oaxaca! Each part of the tour had a very knowledgeable tour guide that brought new energy to the tour group. Mitla and Hierve el Agua are very special places and should not be missed on a visit to Oaxaca.
Our guide Adriel was incredible, outstanding, excellent, and he spoke English perfectly with a California accent. He made everyone feel welcomed (in 2 languages)! Even though it was a very long day, it's a very enjoyable trip and every stop was worthwhile. We learned, we laughed, and we really appreciate that they give you 2 hours at Hierve El Agua. We hiked the entire 3 km trail to the bottom of the petrified falls, about 1.25 hours. Only 3 out of 13 people in our group did the big hike, you need to be in good condition. The mezcal distillery tour at the end of the day was another highlight. We did a different mezcal tasting at another vendor, and we thought this one was superior. We have done tours like this all over the world and I would rate this in the top three. We booked it through Costco Travel and Viator.
Adriel was really interactive, friendly, informative and fun! Him and his crew made the tour very lively and safe while telling us all about Oaxaca unfiltered and historically accurate.
We had a great time with Andrea. This was an awesome tour where we covered the main things to do and see east of town. Hierve el Agua is beautiful, we had a lot of great mezcal, and learned about Mitla. Highly recommend.
Adriel was our tour guide and David was a very capable driver. Adriel made everything very easy, his English was perfect and he was easy to understand because he spoke with a California accent! (Made us feel at home because we are from Sacramento/Lake Tahoe) Be aware that the Hierve El Agua Route is an 11.5 hour marathon tour and it's a wonderful excursion but it's a very long day! The highlights include a very extensive mezcal tasting at a local distillery. We ended the day with a very pleasant buzz (not staggering drunk). We highly recommend "Oaxaca By Locals" as one of the premier companies in the area. Our next trip will be their Jalatlaco Free Walking Tour.
Andrea is an exceptional guide! We had such a wonderful time with her and the fellow members of our group. She is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and kind. We had a little rain during our trip and she adjusted perfectly! We especially enjoyed our time at the mezcal distillery afterwards!
This was a great experience.Adriel and David were a great team. I also enjoyed all the learning and I’m pretty sure at the distillery, the cat was the star of the show. One suggestion, because it was difficult to find where we were meeting… the name of the tour company along with the address could help people find the meeting place easier especially us who are español challenged. Todo… We Loved it! Everything was great!!! Thank you!!!
Our tour guide Miguel was very friendly and knew a lot about the places we visited. He gave us briefs on the bus and let us use all the time to wander which I valued because it's often hard to keep up with tour guides on group walks. The activities were also informative and great fun. Hierve el Agua and swimming in the pools were the highlight for us!
5/5 Stars – Absolutely incredible day in Oaxaca! This tour was the highlight of our trip! Every stop—from the breathtaking views at Hierve el Agua to the massive Tule Tree, the history at Mitla, and the delicious mezcal tasting—was perfectly paced and well organized. What really made the day unforgettable, though, were Adriel and David. Adriel was an outstanding guide—so knowledgeable, passionate, friendly, and fantastic at sharing the rich culture and history behind every site while keeping the energy super fun. David was an incredible driver—drove smoothly and safely, kept everything running on time, and made sure we were comfortable from start to finish. They genuinely went above and beyond to make sure everyone had an amazing experience. I couldn't recommend this tour (and this dream team) more!
Great option to explore parts of Oaxaca, Steph and the rest of the crew we’re phenomenal! Easy, convenient and very helpful staff.
Must do! Tour guide Miguel was very patient and extremely informative was able to answer all of my questions
Kevin (guide) and David (driver) were wonderful! The tour was filled with jokes, surprising gifts, and thoughtful touches. We hit so many landmarks, with just the right amount of time for each so nothing felt rushed. At the Hierve el Agua (1 hr 20 minutes), we took the longer loop around; the views were amazing. I would recommend packing some snacks and having a heavier breakfast (lunch stop is at 3 pm). It was a fun day meeting other travelers and having a great guide. Highly recommended!
Stephanie was a fantastic guide! She went above and beyond in accommodating the group and the history and detail she provided was very insightful.
An absolute highlight of our honeymoon in Mexico! Estefany was an incredible guide - so knowledgeable, attentive, and accommodating to everyone in the group. Ángel, our driver, was equally fantastic, keeping everything smooth and effortless. The entire experience was delivered perfectly in both English and Spanish, and it allowed us to pack in way more than we ever could have managed on our own. We can't recommend this team highly enough!
The tour was amazing! Estephanie was our guide, and she was wonderful. The day is jam-packed with activities, but don’t worry, at no point did it feel rushed. We had “free time” at every stop, which is exactly my style of tour. We also got extremely lucky with the weather. It was cool and overcast, which was perfect for all the walking we did. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I would absolutely recommend this tour! Good weather not guaranteed ;)
Had an amazing time on our tour! Stephanie was a great tour guide and very insightful about all of the places we visited. She went out of her way to make sure everyone on the tour was having a good time. The tour was very diverse, there’s something for everyone. Historical sights, cultural & gastronomical experiences, outdoor activities, and a mezcal distillery tour and tasting to end. Don’t be afraid of the long tour time! At each stop there were plenty of opportunities to find water, a snack, or a toilet! Overall, a great well-rounded tour! We had so much fun!
An absolute must-do when visiting Oaxaca! The itinerary is packed with amazing sights. And then there was our guide, Estefany. Phenomenal, super knowledgeable, and super friendly. She made sure everyone had an amazing time from start to finish with her positive energy and great vibe. Five stars all around! Hierve el Agua: A giant speleothem-like calcified tower. At the top, you can swim in natural pools, and/or you can walk a circular path to the bottom of the tower and up again. The Tule Tree: A fascinatingly broad taxodium tree. A must-see even if you are not a dendroenthusiast. The rug workshop: Where you can see a family workshop, get insights into which dyes are used, and learn the technique of rug-making. Mitla: A fascinating archaeological site of the place that served as the main religious and spiritual center for the Zapotec civilization. There is also a stop for an optional lunch where you can taste many typical Oaxacan dishes. Mezcal distillery: At the end, you finish with a mezcal distillery visit where they explain the production from the plant to the bottle, and conclude the visit by tasting all the mezcales you learned about during the presentation.
Kevin was a great tour guide! Very full (but not too taxing or difficult) day tour! Definitely recommend and not surprised it’s the top rated one of these for Oaxaca.
We really enjoyed the trip: also because of Miguel, the excellent guide. alle worked out in a nice way
We had a great experience and learned a lot about the history of the places we visited from our guide. It was a long day with kids, but there were breaks at just the right times. Ending the day with mezcal tasting was perfect. I would definitely recommend.
This was one of the best experiences we've had in Mexico so far. We were lucky enough to have the best guide ever: Stef. Anyone who has the chance to spend the day with her is in for a truly unforgettable experience. Even though we all still had sleepy eyes early in the morning, she brought such a wonderful energy from the very first moment. Throughout the day, she taught us a lot: from the Aztec calendar and the Tule Tree to nahuales and Hierve el Agua. Her passion, knowledge, and storytelling made every stop come alive. ¡Muchísimas gracias, Stef, for the magical day. It was an experience we'll carry in our hearts forever ❤️
Adriel did an AMAZING job with our group!! He was very attentive and had so mic knowledge to share about each place. At every stop and along the way he kept asking if anyone had questions or if we needed anything. The rides to each place felt so short due to his way of connecting with everyone. Amazing job Adriel! Thank you for the experience!!
Excellent experience. Kevin our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. I loved experiencing his pride and joy for Oaxaca. He did an excellent job balancing translating simultaneously every fact he shared . Our driver was great too. He was safe and obliged with our music requests. This is a great tour to book if you have 4 days or less and want to see a lot. It’ll be a little quick but it’s worth experiencing alot in a day to let you decided afterwards where you would want to visit again with more time invested.
Uriel was an amazing fun guide. His stories and legends were just what we were looking for! Go for it!
Great tour and Steffany our tour guide did an amazing job and I will recommend this tour when u visit Oaxaca
Great tour, there was a good variety of activities so anyone would find a few things on the day that they really enjoy. Kevin was a great host, he kept a good pace on the day without pushing the group too hard.
This was an amazing marathon tour. We covered so much in one day and we traveled in a very comfortable tour van with a fun international group of fellow tourists. Our guide Estefania was great at breaking the ice and creating a relaxed mood for the long day and was very patient with our questions and in explaining things. We found the Tule tree and Hierve el Agua particularly special experiences and would just recommend cleared instructions for the hike without a lox tour at Hierve el Agua. It is recommended to bring a towel and bathing suit for this experience as well as a comfortable walking shoes and snacks. We did have opportunities to buy street food along the way but the lunch stop was at 4pm, so we were grateful to have things to munch on in the car. The Mezcal tour and tasting was extremely informative and a great final bonding experience with the whole group. Also a great opportunity to buy gifts. Overall, amazing and absolutely worthwhile.
The tour was amazing.. the tour guide was really good and friendly. The food was very tasty. We had an amazing day.
Adriel and David are fantastic! Adriel's explanations are very clear and I got to see aspects of the Oaxacan countryside I likely never would have discovered on my own. The tour provided a window into the history and culture of this beautiful state and made me excited to come back one day. The sites—the Tule tree, Teotitlan del Valle, Mitlan, and Hierve el Agua—did not disappoint, and the mezcal tasting was fun, informative, and generous. Favorite tour in Oaxaca!
We had an incredible experience with Miguel from Oaxaca by Locals. From the moment we left at 8am sharp until we returned around 7:30 pm, he kept the day engaging, informative, and fun. Miguel was extremely knowledgeable at every stop, from the majestic Tule Tree and the textile workshops of Teotitlán del Valle to Mitla, Hierve el Agua, and the mezcal distillery. He answered every question we threw at him and even taught us indigenous terminology and local expressions that helped us better understand Oaxaca’s rich cultural heritage. What really stood out was how much context he provided throughout the day. Each destination felt more meaningful because Miguel explained not just what we were seeing, but why it mattered. If you've already visited Monte Albán, this tour is an excellent follow-up because it helps connect the story of what may have happened after the Zapotecs left the mountaintop city. Seeing places like Mitla and learning about the surrounding valleys adds another layer of understanding to Oaxaca's history and makes the region's past feel much more connected. The schedule was packed, but the time flew by thanks to Miguel's fun and funny enthusiasm. We enjoyed the tour so much that we ended up purchasing a souvenir at just about every stop. It was a long day, but it was filled with memorable experiences, beautiful sights, fascinating history, and plenty of laughs. If you're looking for a guide who is knowledgeable, patient, personable, and passionate about Oaxaca, Miguel from Oaxaca by Locals is an excellent choice. Highly recommended!
Which a great day . Stops in a good timing. Locations of interest really good . End of day with a lot of good mezcal . Great tour guide Adriel . Definitely recommend it .
One of the most amazing experiences I had with Adriel and Otoniel and the group! Places to change and eat so don’t worry or stress that part out. It’s really was worth it!
So good! I can't believe we fit it all in and they were all such good experiences. The guide was very nice, knowledgeable, and fun. Such a good way to learn about Oaxaca.
Miguel and our driver were AMAZING! Great experience and they were very knowledgeable about Oaxaca and the surrounding areas. Punctual, professional and friendly.
Miguel was our tour guide, he was great! We went to a few spots outside of Oaxaca and learned a lot. We spent just the right amount of each spot so I didn't get bored. we also got some mezcal to pre game, everything was great! Auto was our driver and he did great job driving and made us feel safe. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone, and if your worried about the hike like I was done be, I opted out for the hike and still had a great time sight seeing.
This was a great tour. A very authentic way to experience a lot of what the Oaxaqueño state has to offer. Adriel was a wonderful tour guide. Extremely friendly, full of knowledge and fun to be around! He was extremely inclusive and worked hard to make everyone feel comfortable. I highly recommend doing this tour. I even won a free bottle of mezcal. Worth every penny!!!
Great tour. The day was packed and very hot so don’t forget to bring some water and sunscreen. Great guide. Explained everything in English
