Our guides and the family behind the distillery are passionate about their work, and it shows in the care given on this tour. The information was very interesting, and Mariana had such a nice, enthusiastic energy in the telling. We enjoyed the history, the process of distillation, and learning about the different agaves. The mezcals we tasted were wonderful, very smooth, with such different “notes.” And we enjoyed different traditional snacks. Highly recommend!

A really interesting experience learning about mezcal production and tasting many different types of Mezcal. Our guide was passionate about mezcal and its spiritual and magical properties. I appreciated the subtle flavours of the different varieties of agave and really enjoyed the smoky chilli salt made with worms!

Marianna was awesome. She explained the process of making Mezcal in the traditional way. Mr Juan joined in at the end of the tasting and you could really see how passionate he was about the integrity of the Mezcal. They offered many tasting options to the group. I do wish that there had actually been some Mezcal production happening at the time of our visit. That would have made the experience more complete for me.

What an interesting tour, where we actually learned about the handcrafting of Mezcal from a guide that is very passionate about the topic. The tastings were generous and everyone found a spirit that "spoke" to them. A fun afternoon for sure.

I was definitely overcharged 0n mezcal purchase 2-250ml bottles,1-750ml mezcal cream and 3 coffee mugs for 2,900 pesos I was rushed and didn't pay enough attention to what I was being charged. So beware

Must book! Mariana’s passion for what she does shows when she taught us about mezcal. I’ve gone on alcohol tours before and don’t usually pay attention. Just go to drink. Theres something about her delivery and the history of mezcal that left me in awe. I walked away with respect for not only the spirit but also the process. Very interesting and informative tour! Mariana did an excellent job of explaining the ancestral and current day processes of making mezcal. We had the opportunity to taste many different selections. We started with a welcome meszcalita beverage.

Mariana was the best tour guide we could have imagined. In the beginning the tour was rather theoretical. But we had fun.

My wife and I left the kids at the rental and spent a lovely afternoon at this lovely and unique mezcal distillery. I thought I knew what mezcal tasted like (strong and smoky), but the quality and variance of their offerings left me amazed! Some of them were, yes, smoky, but the wild agave mezcals, in particular, were like nothing else, brimming with subtle flavors of earth, fruit, and sea. Our hostess, Marianna, was absolutely lovely and knowledgeable, explaining the process and the history of this special place. Even if you think you don't like mezcal, I highly recommend this experience. You won't be disappointed!

The family house where they hold the tasting is lovely and they make you feel very at home! Learning about the process of making mezcal and the specific way that this family produces it was endlessly fascinating and stories behind the making and names of specific mezcals were enchanting. Mariana was an excellent tour guide and very knowledgeable! I would recommend this experience to anyone and everyone especially if you have a love for this beautiful Oaxacan elixir!

Old school farming and unlimited mezcal as part of the tour is a nice touch. Tour was the right amount of time, and it’s always interesting to see how different liquors are made. Would recommend

Marianna and her colleague Tamara went above and beyond to ensure we had a perfect experience at the distillery. We had access to way more mescal than we could possibly consume, and they provided tasty complimentary snacks. The family participated in the tour of the distillery, answering our questions patiently and with lots ofdetail. Marianna sent a taxi to pick us up and drop us off. It is important to note the distillery does not have agave fields on site, which was a little disappointing but the rest of the experience was stellar!

Great tour. Mariana, the host was very welcoming and engaging with the group. The tour was a great balance of general education of Mezcal, history and then a tour of the production area. Lastly, the tasting event was a lot of fun and the Mezcal is great quality. The family producing the Mezcal were very lovely people and seemed very happy to have us. Highly recommend.

We had an amazing experience with Puerto Mezcal Tours during our stay in Puerto Escondido! They came to our Airbnb to do a mezcal tasting for our group of 14, and it was an absolute blast. Jazmin kicked things off with a fantastic presentation about the different types of mezcal, which was both informative and engaging. They had no problem doing the entire tasting in English, which made it even easier for everyone in our group to follow and enjoy. The tasting itself was so much fun, and they even provided delicious snacks to pair with the mezcal, which was a great touch. If you’re looking for a fun and unique activity while in Puerto, I would highly recommend Puerto Mezcal Tours. It’s perfect for groups and a great way to learn about and enjoy the local culture!

I've done several high end mezcal tastings with well known groups in Mexico City. This one was actually more informative and it was helpful to see how parts of the process actually work. Quite varied artisinals mezcals to try also. Was a very enjoyable part of the trip.

We had sooo much fun!!!!! We love mezcal so coming on this tour was a perfect adventure for us! Our guide was very knowledgeable and FUN! The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Plus, we had 10 month old baby with us and they were terrific with him!! We learned so much about the process of making Mezcal and the sampling was incredible! We tasted 10 different varieties and the snacks to accompany our tastings were plentiful and varied! From nuts to grasshoppers to worms to chips! I HIGHLY recommend this tour - everyone who participated, had high energy and great attitudes! I am so glad we were able to purchase some of the family brand of mezcal to bring home to share!!

Absolute MUST if visiting Oaxaca! The mezcal was absolutely outstanding and our tour guides Rodolfo and Tamara were so fantastic. Transformed the tour from just a touristy visit to a truly memorable and fun time! Will absolutely go again when back in the area and cannot recommend this tour enough! This tour was awesome! I learned a lot about the history, making, and cultural significance of Mezcal. Our guides, Rodolfo and Tamara made the experience comfortable, fun, and educational! We tasted I think 10? unique mezcals. They all rated a little differently on the strong/smoky/sweet/fruity rating. Our tour with Ruu Piiil - which has been in the same family for generations - offered some tastings of mezcal only available in the area. Mezcal, much like champagne, can only be labeled as such when it is produced in a certain region. We were provided with a rating chart for our own use to help us better distinguish the flavor, discuss the mezcals, and keep track of our favorites. My personal favorite was the Especial! During the tour of the distillery, we were offered the opportunity to use some of the traditional tools to break up the agave plant. We were able to taste the agave/mezcal at different stages in the process which was pretty cool and helped inform the rest of the tasting. Learning the more authentic ways to drink mezcal, the traditional pairings, and the lore behind the common “cheers” special to mezcal has made me excited to pass that knowledge on to my friends and family back home! Our guide Rodolfo was a delight! He was a great teacher and companion for the tour! Very knowledgeable, personable, and easy to talk to. He was able to match our energy and be fun while also staying professional and informative. He was happy to answer our questions and offer his insight on both the mezcal and the area overall. Tamara was friendly, sweet, and made sure we were all comfortable and taken care of. There were fans available - both electric and handheld. She was the one pouring the mezcal and bringing our pairings like the sal de gusano, salt, citrus, nuts, etc. Tamara also made the guacamole for the table which - just as an aside - was absolutely delicious! We were picked up and dropped off at the place we are staying in Puerto Escondido. It was very nice not having to worry about transportation - especially after the tour. My group booked online ahead of time for our friend’s birthday. Their communication following the booking was enthusiastic and consistent which helped us relax and get excited for the tour. All of this made it even easier to have fun and enjoy the experience. A delightful surprise to me was the lack of hangover! Our guide said that because of the purity of the mezcal and its distillation, our bodies are able to process the alcohol in it more easily than in other drinks. I was skeptical at first but still felt great the next day! I am new to drinking mezcal and this tour was perfect for me. I absolutely recommend the experience!

Would recommend to everyone visiting Puerto Escondido who wants to learn a little about mezcal after a morning at the beach. The entire team was incredible and we had a hard time deciding which of the 10 mezcals we tried was our favorite. We booked last minute on our last day in town and Antoine and Jazmin kindly made quick adjustments so we could make it. Perfect afternoon.

Due to a slow day at the distillery, I unexpectedly got my own personal tour and tasting and it was an amazing time! Jazmin was my guide and she was a blast to listen to and enjoy the mezcals with. Her passion for mezcal is evident by the way she speaks about it and her enthusiasm for it is delightful. Her presentation on the history of mezcal was interesting and she conducted a great tour (she also speaks English very well). She also prepared some traditional Oaxacan snacks for the tasting and I got to try 10 mezcals (all of which were better than the 3 I tried at another more commercial distillery outside of Oaxaca city). It was an absolute pleasure to do the tasting with Jazmin and chat with her while sipping and eating. I highly recommend this distillery and tour to anyone in the area, hopefully Jazmin will be your guide!

This was a great and informative your. Such a personal look into the family connection and pride of the generations making mezcal. Adele was wonderful translating sharing so much information. The mezcal was delicious! I cannot recommend this experience more.

Worth every peso and every second. I’ve done a lot of distillery and brewery tours and have never been so engaged the entire time, had so much fun, or tried and learned so much. We felt like we were drinking at our local bar with old friends. 11/10 recommend. Antione, Tomas, Maria, and the rest of the team are absolute stars.

Such a fun experience!! I definition recommend this tour, in this very authentic small mezcaleria. I had absolutely no expectations, and it was probably one of the most fun things I’ve done at puerto Escondido! The person who was leading the tour was very knowledgeable, and seeing how it’s been made on site definitively changed my vision of Mescal. After the tour, at the restaurant/bar, you’ll also look at the menu from a new perspective We had the honor to see one of the family member from the mezcaleria: Thomas.

I had an amazing time, Jasmine was a great host and gave us all the attention in the world. I was a bit worried as I recently was in Oaxaca City and did a tour there of various Palenque’s but I was not disappointed. Learning about Thomas and his family’s unique Mezcal traditions added to my appreciation on this art form. The Mezcal was amazing and authentic, I would highly recommend.
