The streets of Oaxaca City are filled with so much beautiful wheat pasted street art and murals and getting a tour around town to give them more life and story is very special. Margaux was a wonderful tour guide and had so many great recommendations for the things to do within the city.
This was a great experience. Marguax was very engaging and the tour was well paced. Great to explore the neighborhood and learn about the street art and block printing. Was also great to try a hand at block printing and the cocoa tasting was a great way to end a great morning. Highly recommend!
I love street art, and Margaux was a fantastic guide for the murals and galleries throughout Oaxaca. She was interesting and engaging, and I really enjoyed the relaxing day learning about the Oaxaca art scene, creating my own piece of art, and learning about cacao. I would definitely recommend booking her.
We had a good conversation and the guide showed us some hidden graffiti and explained the political significance of a lot of the art that we passed.
I booked a private tour for my family of 7 (from 14 years to 80). Margaux guided us through beautiful Oaxaca and showed us many great Murals to which she had a lot to say. Not only got we to see he art in Oaxaca but also hidden boutique stores and cafes in different neighborhoods . Margaux showed us print workshops and explained everything about lithography and other printing techniques. With some prints and a great art project she supports prisoners. With some refreshments and her lively manner, she made our tour very pleasant and interesting. At the end, the chocolate tasting was a perfect way to end the tour and leave us with a big smile. Thank you very much Margaux and all the best.
You get to see some places that you wouldn’t if you were walking around on your own. Tony was a great guide and knew a lot about all the murals that he was showing me. Plus, you get to make a little wood print and have a cacao tasting.!!!
Was a great way to get to know the barrio de Jalatlaco. Our guide Margaux was very knowledgeable about the neighbourhood and took us to see the many colourful and unique murals on the walls of homes and businesses. Amazing.
Wow! Margaux was an amazing guide - incredibly informative about local art and artists, friendly, and engaging. Very thoughtfully planned tour that built in rest breaks and multiple activities, including wood block printing and a chocolate tasting! Tour cost also supports art programs in prison, so going on this tour felt particularly meaningful in supporting community. Would highly recommend!!

Loved the art work our guide showed us on the tour. He was also very good at explaining the process and even the politics behind the pieces.
An absolute fantastic tour! Highly recommend! Our guide Tony spoke perfect English and as a local Oaxacan with great understanding of street arts was able to provide us with an in-depth understanding of the graphic arts of the region. Outside of visiting many of the street murals around the city, the tour also takes you to one of the most creative graphic studios in Oaxaca and closes with a visit to an out of this world chocolate store where we learned about the entire process of making chocolate. Truly a fantastic afternoon!
Great informative tour of Oaxaca with an emphasis on murals and local history. Tony did an awesome job. One of the best experiences we have ever had on Viator.
Our guide Tony was knowledgeable and easy to work with. I really like that we were taken to a craft cacao shop rather than a place like Mayordomo. I appreciated the political context of the art and the artisans we visited
The art walk with Tony was informative about the protest nature of the wall murals and broadsides seen around town. Printing our own block prints was great fun. And the cacao demonstration was extremely interesting.
We loved learning about the murals in Jalatlaco with Margaux. We learned about the importance of print making and were rewarded with an opportunity to select a print to make and take home. Margaux has extensive connections in the Oaxacan print community and took us to many galleries to see the presses, the process and the final products. The chocolate tasting was a treat and very educational.
We enjoyed our tour and learned a lot from Toni. The street art in Oaxaca is bueno and you learn a lot about the history and current politics of a place through its art. Toni was fun and knowledgeable and we loved the cacao at the end of the tour.
Tony’s art walk and cocoa tour was fantastic! He was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing the local culture and history. We learned so much and had a great time throughout the experience. We highly recommend Tony for this tour and for any other tours you’re planning in Oaxaca!
I had a delightful day wandering the area with Tony as my guide. The artistic talent concentrated in this area is incredible. The street art is beautiful as well as socially responsible in its commentary. Tony is a great guide, very knowledgeable about the area and a very pleasant companion. Truly enjoyed my time with him.
Tony is an excellent guide to Oaxaca. His deep knowledge of local art and culture made our walk through the area of Jalatlaco especially meaningful as he explained the history and symbolism behind the vibrant street murals. Throughout the tour, he highlighted artists, their influences, and hidden gems I never would have found on my own. His passion for the city really shined, and the cacao tasting was a delicious and memorable bonus. When visiting Oaxaca this excursion is a must!
We did multiple tours with Margaux during Day of the Dead and each tour was wonderful! They were personalized to our family, fun, interesting, and local. Margaux and Tony are excellent. We would highly recommend any of their tours! We’ll be back and will definitely book them again!
The tour starts early, 9:30. Tony, who was so interesting, walked a group of 7 around the Jalisco neighborhood explaining the murals and political art. We went in to a museum, and a few art galleries to see different examples of art. No pressure at all to buy, but you could have. One highlight was going into a printing gallery where we made copies of a choice of lithographs. Lovely meeting the people there. Walked away with a numbered print. The end of tour we then sat down for a very educational and delicious chocolate tasting. Again, no pressure to buy chocolate, but had opportunity to and of course we did because it was delicious.
Tony was excellent and accommodating to our group. The chocolate tasting was informative and delicious and We really enjoyed the printmaking and art studios. Jalatlaco is charming and colorful.
Highly recommended this incredible tour. Tony was so knowledgeable and fun. He gave us great insight into the incredible art and history of this magical city. It was a perfect way to spend the day. There is a lot of walking but it’s not at a fast pace and very doable for me and my little dog. Thank you so much!
A great tour of the art work and city streets, Antonio was a great guide and introduced us to so much artists and places to come back and explore later as well.
Vamos a Que provided a great introduction to Oaxaca's introducing art community. Maisie reached out a week or so before our tour to make sure we had their contact information and to remind us of the itinerary. She was always quick to respond to any request. Tony is an excellent guide to Oaxaca. His knowledge of various artists, their history and contribution to Oaxaca was shown repeatedly during our tour. Starting with Subterraneo's print workshop and gallery, he took us into Centro and artsy Jocalatco and numerous galleries and shops to let us see different works of art and talk with the artists. Notable were the group of wood-block artists who create social and political commentaries, the large number of street murals and his knowledge of those artists, the home donated by an artist as a museum, and the graphic print workshop that produces works created by Oaxacan prison inmates. Throughout the day, Tony was very patient, and made sure any questions we had were fully answered. The tour ended at a "secret" cacao shop which conducts orientation to cacao - its origin and processes to create chocolate. This was a nice break, and might be considered earlier in the day as a rest stop.
Tony was super knowledgeable about Oaxaca art and culture. We toured the Barrio de Jalatlaco where he explained the history and background of works of street art. We then visited print shops and exhibit spaces. I went to so many places I would not have gone on my own. The tasting at Chimalapa was also outstanding. Highly recommend!
Really enjoyed the Art Walk & Cacao Delight tour! The guide, Tony, was so knowledgeable and did a great job sharing the amazing art and artists Oaxaca has to offer. He was able to explain the background and meanings of the art as well, which gave insight into Oaxaca’s past and people. The cacao portion of the tour was informative and fun, with tastings-giving me a new appreciation for artisanal chocolate!
We saw and did such a lot on this tour with Tony. So interesting to hear the stories behind some of the murals. And see places we hadn’t yet visited in Oaxaca. The artisanal chocolate tasting was amazing, really interesting. 5 stars for Tony he was a great guide, the whole tour was about 4 hours but we didn’t get bored 😊. I have way too many photos now though !
Had a great time seeing all the street art!! Saw many artists with different styles. The chocolate tasting was the bet. Don't mss this experience.
🌟 This is the tour you want and Tony is your guide: one of the best walking tours I've experienced in Mexico, my native country. The vivid, symbolic art is accompanied by Tony's expert rendition of background and influences. The cacao experience rivals those of neighboring regions: which to choose? Heck - you deserve all! Highly recommended. 🌟
Tony was an outstanding guide!. My husband and I learned much about the local street art, history of Oaxaca region and surroundings, cacoa history/tasting (so good, esp. Coral), print making and more! Our tour experience was more and better than expected! Recommending to local friends. Thanks Tony and Vamos!
In depth explanation of the political meanings + inspiration behind the murals which gave us more insight into Oaxacan culture.
This tour was the highlight of my time in Oaxaca! It was such a treat to get to visit the artists’ studios and talk to them about their work and see how printmaking, lithographs and other forms of art were performed. And of course, the chocolate was EXCELLENT. Margaux is an excellent tour guide; she’s warm, knowledgeable, and built great relationships with the artists she works with. I was the only person signed up for the tour and was lucky to have her!
Great way to explore the urban and modern art scene! Loved all murals and getting to know about modern history through art.
We saw and experienced things we would have missed on our own. Every shop we went to was locally owned and socially concerned.
I highly recommend this tour - amazing guide and really felt like the focus was on giving back to the community and supporting local businesses. Our guide was so informative and explained the background and history behind many of the murals in Oaxaca. We also visited several local businesses, including a tile shop with the most amazing designs. I also very much enjoyed Subterraneos and learning more about it as a school and their works that I had seen around town. The cacao tasting was also super informative and I very much appreciated that it was at a small family run business with a focus on sustainability. The tour is definitely value for money - given the amount of information & the length of the tour, would have happily paid much more.
This tour was amazing, we had a wonderful time with Tony! We spent three hours walking and touring the beautiful murals of Oaxaca and getting the full scoop of why an artist may have chosen a particular area/wall and also the hidden meanings throughout the artwork. We also got to make our own prints which was so fun! We ended our tour with a delicious cacao tasting which didn't disappoint. I would just give a heads up to people that it's a LOT of standing (versus actually walking for a full three hours). There are times to sit but you are really standing for a lot of the time so if you aren't able to sustain that perhaps rethink this particular tour. Overall I would HIGHLY recommend though!!
Great insight into the the street art and artists of Oaxaca. Interesting to learn the political connections with some of the art. Our guide, Tony was good. Loved the paper-appliqué murals; they are unique, and learning about how they are made added to their appeal.
This tour was very educational as well as being enjoyable. Our guide was quite knowledgeable and engaging.
Tony was a great guide. We learned a lot about the history of Oaxaca and its artists. The printmaking and cacao portions were a lot of fun.
It involves a lot of walking in a hot environment. Need to bring water and hat. Guide was very knowledgable and friendly (Tony). Need comfortable shoes!
Fun and informative for those who are interested in learning about the rice paper rebellion focused murals. Wear comfortable shoes and plan to stand or walk most of the time. Bring a snack, we got hungry during the active 5 hrs. Tony was an energetic and intelligent tour guide. English easy to understand.
Tony, the guide to as very informative and helpful. Really enjoyed the murals and printing. The cacao was also really enjoyable, learned lots about the origins of chocolate as well as geography and history. The tastings were delicious. Margot also gave great recommendations of places to eat afterwards.
The guides for both experiences were so knowledgeable! Both Tony (art) and Martin (chocolate) explained and interwove our experiences with the history, culture, and significance to Oaxaca! So interesting and well paced! Thanks for the coffee break, Tony; and chocolate tastings, Martin!
There are many wonderful murals, art studios, and artists in Oaxaca that to learn about it is special. Antonio was an excellent guide showing us the way. The chocolate tasting experience made it a memorable ending.
This experience was absolutely amazing. I was able to learn about the art of the city, and even more so about the culture and people and religion and beliefs and how people are making change thru art. The experience was amazing and the cacao tasting was another in depth learning experience. I loved this tour and would absolutely recommend!
We had a wonderful time with Tony. This tour felt special on multiple levels: visiting an artists' collective/studio/workshop, learning about street art in Oaxaca, a studio promoting social justice through teaching art, and a cacao/chocolate tasting. It really hit some highlights "off the beaten path." Tony was engaging and so generous with his time, and Margaux's studio where we were able to do our own prints from her studio's artists felt like a meaningful and fun souvenir. Give yourself a little more time than allotted, as there's so much to do and see, it's a gift to be able to do more; you also get out of the experience what you put in, so be curious and ask questions (it's not a lecture). Great photo opportunities with the street art, a nice coffee break in the Jalatlaco neighborhood, and a nice balance of experiential and visual learning (street art, do your own prints, and the chocolate tasting). Thanks for everything!
Excellent tour by Tony! He is very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. We also were able to woodblock print and do a wonderful cacao tasting.🌟🌟🌟
Tony was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable and personable. Margaux was very communicative, kind and accommodating. The itinerary was packed with so much great information and experiences. My favorites were interacting with local artists, learning more about the area and its history, contributing to people that partner with local prisons to share art and don’t get me started on the chocolate experience! It was so informative, entertaining and delicious. Highly recommend!
