Our tour guide, Jr, went above and beyond to make sure our experience was filled with fun and education. This was my families first trip to Oaxaca, and we couldn’t have picked a better tour. From our trip to Monte Albán, to mezcal tasting, to recreating scenes from Nacho Libre, Jr made sure we got the most out of our day. We definitely can’t wait for our next visit. Thank you so much for showing us the beauty Oaxaca has to offer, and for making us feel so welcomed !!

Itinerary
You will visit the famous Santiario de las Peñitas. Church that was used for the filming of the Nacho Libre film.
A guided tour of this majestic pre-Hispanic city takes place, taking photographs and recreating the moment of the end of the film.
Visit a Palenque where the drink is made, emblematic of Oaxaca, which is the mezcal. Perhaps one of these Mezcals is one of those used by the father at Mass to commune. They will know the process and have the opportunity to taste various Mezcales to bless their way.
You will go to a workshop-house where the most beautiful textiles in all Mexico are made. You’ll be surprised how they use natural elements like flowers, insects and fruit to dye sheep wool. You will see, for example, how a plant becomes the indigo blue, just like Nacho’s mask.
The service will be fulfilled, leaving them at the aqueduct, where several scenes of the film were filmed. In one of the scenes, the skeleton attacks Nacho in the back.

Found out about this awesome tour through my IG algorithm which is full of Nacho content. When I came across JR's videos I saved it for when I'd visit Oaxaca again. Time came and it was so amazing! You can tell he enjoys what he does by curating a tour based off the movie and beautiful Oaxaca. He was personable and very knowledgeable. Monte Alban is so full of wonder, it's such a pleasure to hear the deep history of the mountains. The drive betweens stops were so fun jamming to our different music tastes, it seemed like a mini road trip with friends. Connecting through the movie and music definitely made the tour feel less like a typical tour. We had a blast shooting the scenes, we couldn't stop laughing. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves the movie and wants to get a little taste of the glory (that is Oaxaca). I won't stop talking about this tour and will tell everyone who enjoys this film as much as I do about it.
My wife came for the culture. I came for Nacho Libre. We both left convinced Junior should have his own movie. This is the original After the Footsteps of Nacho Libre tour and it's brilliantly designed. A day that flies by because it's so much more than a movie tour. It's Oaxaca's history, culture, and heart, with Nacho as the thread. We went from a guided and informative tour of Monte Alban where we recreated the finale on top of the ruins, then to the market where Nacho bought his white shoes, then to the charming Santuario de las Peñitas in San Agustin Etla (the church and orphanage) then to Teotitlán del Valle where a family workshop showed us how they turn flowers, insects and fruit into dyes, including that indigo blue just like Nacho's pants (this was much more fun than i thought it would be), to a place that teaches you how to make mezcal, to the fattest tree in the world (Nacho would certainly approve) and finally to the aqueduct in Centro where Esqueleto attacks Nacho from behind (our most dramatic reenactment). Our guide Junior, made it perfect. Attentive - he watched our belongings, timed everything perfectly, picked us up on time and never rushed us. Creative - he pulled up clips to set up each scene, directed our goofy reenactments (my wife's Esqueleto deserves an Oscar), and was our personal photographer with excellent shots. Helpful - deep history of every site, translation, food recommendations, you name it. Friendly - funny, warm, endlessly patient. It was informative, funny, fun, and deeply Oaxacan. Book this tour! Get that corn outta my face and book it!
Junior went above and beyond in delivering an amazing experience. He was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable on the history and film trivia of all the locations we went to. 1000% reccomend!
I am, I am...if ya know, ya know!! Wow. From the very easy pick up to the drop off, Junior catered the tour to what we wanted. The flexibility of the private tour allowed us to beat the tourist buses and therefore we got to see and walk into a tomb!! The Zona Arqueológica de Monte Albán is a highlight for me as i have seen Roman ruins and this was ...mind blowing. We were comfortable with recreating in video some scenes but had the option to take photos only.. it was really left up to us how much we wanted out of it...just fyi Im sure Junior was a movie director in a previous life as he did a great job getting the best angles and scenes with the original background. We visited a local family who still make rugs, runners, purses in the authentic way and this was another highlight... Highly recommend not just for Nacho Libre fans, but those who want to learn more about the culture and heritage of Oaxaca. Thankyou
What a day out with Junior!!! Why should you go … because its the best!!! With the convenience of a private tour, we packed a huge amount into the tour. And whilst we are huge Nacho fans the day would appeal to people with no knowledge of the movie.
My Dad booked this tour because he knows how much our family (me mainly) love the film. Junior was absolutely incredible showing us all the iconic spots and helping us recreate each scene from the movie. He also was very passionate and educated about the heritage sights and the history behind them. We were all blown away by Monte Alban and loved the local family we visited that makes the traditional wool products. He also took us to one of his favourite lunch spots. And it wasn’t part of the tour but he took us to the incredible Tule tree (the widest tree in the world). Had such a fun and memorable time thanks to Junior.
Had the most amazing time on this tour. Juan is energetic, engaging, and full of knowledge! He tailored the tour to our needs and made sure we had a great experience while in Oaxaca. I highly recommend taking his tour, you won’t regret it!
It was awesome! Such a great time. Juan is energetic and engaging during the entire tour. he is full of knowledge and really takes the time to dive deep into the history of all sites visited. Highly recommend it!
Started our Nacho Libre Tour in the morning. Juan picked us up on time and at our hotel. Juan is a certified tour guide who knows so much about Oaxaca. We first enjoyed Monte Alban and we were blown away by the beauty of this archeological site. Juan was our driver, our tour guide and our personal photographer. He took some great shots of us and we even recreated some of the most iconic scenes of the movie…. We visited santuario Las Peñitas, a textile workshop where we got to see the artist doing what they love most. We visited a mezcaleria and we visited other Nacho Libre movie locations. We had an amazing time.. thank you Juan. We are definitely recommending you to our family and friends.
Jr is without a doubt, the best tour guide I’ve ever had. His extensive knowledge about all parts of the tour made the whole day incredibly engaging. One question would lead to a whole discussion and backstory, which gave way to even more questions and he could answer all of them. I left the tour knowing so much more about Oaxaca, and even Mexico as a whole. He is also incredibly accommodating. He let us stop for food, restroom, even took us back to a previous site to look for a hat that my partner and I had lost on the tour. He made the whole tour very comfortable and welcoming. Finally, Jr is just so FUN! We had a blast recreating scene from Nacho Libre. He has a very playful and lighthearted attitude that made the whole day more engaging. We laughed for the whole day :) Cannot recommend this tour enough!
This is a great tour to learn about culture and at the same time very fun. Our family learned to appreciate more Oaxaca. The acting scenes were so much fun. Everyone got to act. It will be a family favorite for many years.
This tour is not just for Nacho Libre fans, but also for experiencing Oaxaca's culture and history. I booked this tour for my family because we are fans of the movie, but little did we know that our tour would be so much more. Junior our tour guide had so much passion and knowledge about the history and culture of Oaxaca. We would definitely make the time to do this tour again. We learned so much and laughed a lot. Thank you, Junior for this experience.
The tour was full of great stops. Juan was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the day feel very personal. Highly recommend this tour if you’re visiting Oaxaca!
Everything was amazing! Juan was so knowledgable about not just the scenes from the movie but about the people, history and culture of Oaxaca. He was so friendly and welcoming. This is a tour that you should definitely take even if you haven’t seen Nacho Libre.
Wonderful experience! Took this tour with my fiancé who is a big Nacho Libre fan for his birthday. Jr. went above and beyond for us, even stopping before our tour started so that we can buy a luchador mask. On the first stop he made sure we had some breakfast before moving on. He was sure to provide knowledgeable and interesting facts all day. He helped celebrate our engagement by having the distillery to play our song and getting us some mezcal. We had a wonderful day! Highly recommend you take a tour with him if you are visiting Oaxaca.
My wife and I have had a number of guides over the years and Juan would certainly be at the top of the list. Personable, funny (I think he's actually a comedian on the side!) and very knowledgeable. He brings an enthusiasm to even minor details that make his activities all the more interesting. He's a man who clearly enjoys what he does and loves interacting with people and it reflects in the tours that he runs. This latest tour is a hoot for anyone who is a big fan of Nacho Libre! Enjoy what the master has prepared for you!
Daniel was an awesome Guide. Tour was amazing. Rain unfortunately cut our trip short but that had nothing to do with him. Definitely recommend After the footsteps
My son is a Nacho Libre fan and this tour did not disappoint. Our tour guide, Edmundo, picked up on this so continued to show us short clips of the movie as we hit 3 movie related stops within our tour. We started off by seeing the church from the movie where Nacho’s clothes catch fire. The town was celebrating an annual town celebration so we were able to get some local food only footsteps away from the church. Next we stopped by Monte Alban where we were able to climb the ruins just like Nacho did at the end of the movie. We wanted to recreate two scenes from the movie and with the help of Edmundo we were able to do just that- when Nacho climb up the top of the ruin as well as a family picture with part of the ruin in the background. The textile workshop was engaging and we were fully immersed in learning about the culture of this town, their customs, the making of candles, the meaning behind the textile color and patterns, and how each color is extracted from nature. We each were able to create a flower petal from bees wax, handle three different natural elements on the palm of our hands to see how three different colors are created and used in dying the lamb wool, separate wool fibers, as well as help in the textile weaving technique. Next we stopped by a mezcal distillery where we were walked through the entire process. We were able to taste a piece of the agave heart that had been cooked in partial underground oven last week- it reminded us of sugar cane and was very sweet. Next we were able to taste a bit of sweet agave syrup. Lastly we got to sample 9 different kinds of mezcal. The guide there was great, informative, and had a great sense of humor. Lastly we stopped at the place where Nacho confronted Esqueleto and once again took several pictures and videos. On our way back, we were dropped off by the Church of Santo Domingo where our tour guide recommended several place to eat as well as informed us that we would be able to experience several weddings while walking around the area. The tour was informative and engaging. I would highly recommend it as well as this company. They were prompt, communicative, patient, and knowledgeable.
Stop searching and just book with Junior. He was so Professional, punctual, and incredibly passionate about Oaxaca. Junior tailored the day to our interests, navigated the city like a pro, and gave us recommendations for dinner that were better than anything we found online. Not only did Junior show us the sights; he made us fall in love with the city. Junior clearly has a great relationship with the local vendors, which made the whole experience feel authentic and welcoming. Don’t bother with the big tour buses; this is the real deal. If you want to go beyond the surface-level tourist spots, you have to book a tour with Junoir. I 100% recommend this tour with. 10/10!
A truly magical day with Juan, so friendly and kept us all genuinely engaged and curious throughout the entire tour. If you’re a fan of Nacho and find yourself in the area, this tour is a must!!
Wow, what an experience. This tour has everything: sights, culture, mezcal, worms and of course - Nacho Libre. Going to see the iconic locations from one of my all-time favourite movies was amazing. But it wouldn't have been nearly as impactful without our fabulous tour guide, Jaun, who really brought the whole experience to life with his enthusiasm and vast knowledge of the area. Easily one of the best days I had on my trip to Mexico, and I'll be recommending it to anyone who plans to visit :)
What an experience. I went with my family and it was easily the best day of our whole trip. My family and I are all big fans of the film, so to see these places was amazing. Beyond this however the elements of the trip beyond the film were also incredible, we managed to fit in so much fun stuff, seeing many facets of what Oaxaca offers. Juan was a legend; insightful, funny, kind, knowledgable and unbelievably accommodating. I could not imagine a better guide. He was such a fun and cohesive part of this wonderful day with my family.
This tour was without doubt the absolute highlight of our trip. Can’t praise Juan enough, he was the most AMAZING, endearing, engaging and knowledgeable guide, and his English was fluent and excellent. He made the day super interactive and fun, and we also learned loads of interesting facts about Mexican history and culture. If you are fans of Nacho Libre - or even if you’re not - I’d strongly advise a tour with Juan. We all had a brilliant day, just so good. 🤩🙌
We just had the best day with Juan and David our driver. We are big fans of Nacho Libre and had so much fun visiting the sites and even recreating scenes from the film (and who knew we would become TikTok sensations?). But so much more than that, Juan is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the history and culture of Oaxaca and shared that with us in a fun and interesting way (and with perfect English). Could not recommend this tour or Juan more highly. Thanks for a fabulous day!
Excellent service from Juan (Jr.). He did EVERYTHING so that we could cover the movie's locations, recorded us, took photos, watched our belongings, and above all, made us have an excellent experience. He is a great guy! Furthermore, he was attentive to our doubts and questions at all times and made the moment enjoyable with his good humor! Highly recommended and without a doubt, we will be back!
After watching the operator's videos on social media, I had certain expectations for the tour, and the truth is that it was better than expected. Despite being a tour oriented toward visiting certain locations from the movie Nacho Libre, Junior strives to share the history and facts about the places visited. From the first meeting, he is attentive, kind, and makes the experience very enjoyable (and let's not even talk about his ability to take photos and videos at the places visited). He proposes ideas for your photos and videos, and if you have something in mind, he helps you carry it out. We were very impressed and grateful for the experience. We will definitely look for them when we are back in Oaxaca!
I booked with a gentleman named Juan, who was very kind; besides knowing and explaining very well everything we were seeing and doing, he was also very friendly. I give it a 10 out of 10
A visit that not only amazes you with its structural beauty, but throughout the tour, the entire culture is explained to you in detail, and you take away an unforgettable experience.
Juan is the best guide in the world. The tour is super well planned, I visited the iconic places from the movie, also the other places we visited, besides those from the movie, were wonderful. On the other hand, I liked that the tour was personal and not a group tour. That helped me to better enjoy the places and take my time. He is a person who knows a lot about Oaxaca and Nacho Libre, he answered everything from the simplest questions to the most random ones, he spreads his enthusiasm for these topics. Likewise, he always had a good topic of conversation. It is important to mention that he has an adventurous personality and is extremely kind. I traveled alone and felt very comfortable and safe at all times. He has a wonderful service attitude, he took all the photos and videos I needed to have a beautiful memory of this trip and I want to highlight that he is a guide who listens to you and tries to make the tour as personalized as possible, for example, at the restaurant where we stopped to eat he asked them to play my favorite singer and during the drive he played my favorite scene from the movie, I can safely say that that greatly elevated the experience. His attention to detail is unreal. Without a doubt, when I return to Oaxaca I will look for him. Thank you Juan! :D
A tour that is very much worth it. We visited the iconic places for Nacho Libre fans, and even if you are not a fan of the movie, it is fascinating to tour them and learn more about the history. Juan was extremely kind and made sure that the whole trip was comfortable and pleasant. We highly recommend this experience, it is fun, cultural, and different. Thank you very much for everything, Juan :)
Juan was super attentive and kind the whole time, he remembers the scenes perfectly to recreate them, he is very willing to help you record and take your souvenir photos, plus the explanations and the atmosphere he creates turn the experience into something unforgettable.
Without a doubt the best tour, the perfect combination of history, culture, flavors, and fun while recreating scenes from the movie. Juan (junior) was an excellent guide; he was attentive to us at all times, which made the day very pleasant.
It was something very interesting and with a lot of enthusiasm. Monte Alban is something else, and the sites are not very far. Juan treated us with much affection and respect, and the places are worth it.
Excellent Tour, great fun! Daniel was a great guide. Your knowledge about everything Oaxaca, Monte Alban and the incredible mezcal ds. His talk was very enjoyable. The transport and comfort of the tour is very good. It is a tour that I definitely recommend because it is unique and very local. Not everyone gets to perform the activities that here with what they can not miss it
The experience with Trip Tour Oaxaca was wonderful, from the moment of booking, the communication when passing by us super attentive, friendly, gentlemanly, was always on the lookout for us, also along the way if we wanted to stop to the bathroom, buy etcetera provided us that confidence but above all laughter never lacked. As far as the tour was very complete, you have a lot of knowledge in general of all Oaxaca and Mexico we talk very enjoyable of other travel experiences, even give us extra tips! Thanks for everything, for the friendship and trust we hope to return very soon for the following tours. You have your doors open in southern Mexico.
