I'd like to share a history of staying at this hotel going back 30 years. Hotel Santa Fe was the only truly luxury hotel in Puerto Escondido at that time. I recall it was owned by the Cleaver family and it was amazing. The rooms were beautiful and while it may need updates, it has a wonderful resturant and it's worthy of revisiting. In fact, my husband and I are planning to visit Puerto Escondido again this winter. Don't give up on this gem.

Avoid this hotel at all costs. It’s honestly shocking that a place charging $250+ per night doesn’t even have a basic backup generator. On my second night, the entire hotel lost electricity completely unacceptable for a property in this price range. It doesn’t stop there: the rooms have a noticeable humidity problem, the bathrooms smell unpleasant, and the shower drainage is so poor you end up standing in pooled water. For the price they charge, this level of neglect is ridiculous. There are far better options don’t waste your money here. Only thing good is the people working here, they are attentive and kind. Except the fact that they didnt even apologise for the no electricity for a whole night!
I stayed at Hotel Santa Fe in Puerto Escondido for one week (March 14–21), and overall it was a fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a junior suite, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The staff was excellent — always friendly, attentive, and ready to help with anything we needed. The breakfast was very good, and the overall structure of the hotel is beautiful and well maintained. One of the things I appreciated most was the tranquility and peace of the place, perfect for relaxing and unwinding. Honestly, there’s nothing negative worth mentioning. Everything met or exceeded expectations. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would gladly stay here again.
This is a very basic hotel. While it has a great location, nice size rooms and great aesthetic, that is where my compliments will end. We (2 adults, 1 child) stayed for 4 nights and it left a lot to be desired. As many others have said, it was hard to get sufficient towels everyday. In addition, while the base price is reasonable, they charge or threaten to charge for everything. You have to sign for pool towels every time, despite there being plenty. The rooms also don’t come with standard items I’ve seen in every room (ie hairdryer and iron). You have to request them. The main reason I chose this hotel is because it professes to be “family friendly”; yet I don’t think that’s accurate. They offer a minimal free breakfast, but orange juice is an extra charge. For a family friendly hotel, this seems weird as children generally drink juice with breakfast. Moreover and more importantly, the website says babysitting services are offered for a surcharge and I confirmed via What’s App before arriving. Yet, when I arrived, no one seemed to know what I was talking about. They did offer to contract out a babysitter for a price I found super expensive. When I found a cheaper option, on my own, they mentioned that normally the hotel charges an extra 500 pesos just for the person to sit in the room - not use amenities or stay overnight. That seems ridiculous to me. Finally, I’m fairly certain we experienced a racist incident as we were leaving. We previously arranged for a taxi to the airport days before our last day. It was supposed to be there at noon. We confirmed this when we checked out at 10:30. When we arrived back at noon, no taxi was waiting. We were told to wait while one was called - again despite having it confirmed just an hour & a half earlier. As we were waiting, I see a taxi pull up. I thought it was ours. However, a white couple - who had not been waiting - walked up to the Host and he let them get in ahead of us. Our taxi didn’t come until 12:15. I didn’t appreciate the Host putting the white couple in a taxi ahead of us. For all these reasons, I will not stay here again, nor will o recommend it. There are several nicer hotels nearby and in La Punta that I would choose even if more expensive.
Great Valentine's weekend. Room was nice. The beds were super comfortable! I ordered the fish tacos at the restaurant and they were delicious. I liked the location and felt safe walking 10 min down to the main beach area.
