Mezcal Tasting Menu with Tere on the rooftop was the perfect intro to different agaves, how the taste profiles change by Pueblo, the clay or metallic pot it’s brewed in, and how the sugar in the agava is caramelized through different processes including the use of corn husks to cover the agave. Tere really knows her stuff. This was the perfect intro before we experience a full mezcal tour tomorrow!! Definitely do the mezcal tasting with Tere if you’re close or staying here!! The ancestral mezcal (pictured below) was my favorite. Sweet, aromatic, fragrant. It didn’t feel super alcoholic on the tongue or your breath. It was really perfect!!

echoing other’s experiences here, this hotel has nice common areas, but lots of drawbacks, and constant things that shows they dont pay attention to detail, and dont deserve to command the price in the market they are in given there are much better alternatives. the bad: - constant construction next to the hotel means you will hear concrete being pounded since 7am till late - rooms are extremely small - restrooms suck, no air ventilation, no water pressure, first day here there was no water for half the day - any time i had an issue, hotel staff though friendly, never showed any initiative to want to resolve - pool is tiny - breakfast is honestly quite small and not good the good: - location is central i would not stay here again, and would not recommend you do either
Needed to leave a review for other travelers like me. 1. I was so excited to spend part of our trip to Oaxaca here to relax at the pool and enjoy some of the hotels AMAZING drinks - some of my favorite our whole trip - however the pool is right next to one of Oaxaca's busier roads with diesel powered Binnibuses going by constantly - it is very loud at the pool, with lots of exhaust and dust from the street. After an hour or two I couldn't sit any more - it is not a relaxing space unfortunately although it is very pretty looking. If you are looking for a hotel pool respite from the city while in Oaxaca de Juarez I would not recommend this hotel. It is just in the wrong place for it - even the rooftop terrace bar must be loud constantly. Bummer, but only if you are hoping to hang out at the pool! 2. The rooms are aesthetically pleasing concrete and wood and very cool but they are a little dark and there is no fan in the bathroom so it can get quite humid in the whole room after you shower. The lot next door is under construction as of January of 2026 - we couldn't have our terrace door open at all because it was just too loud and dusty. Because of the road, it may be like this even when the construction is finished :( But, the construction was very loud starting at about 730am both mornings we woke up here. 3. We had 3 smallish cockroaches in our room on the first night when we got back from dinner which we took care of ourselves - of course it is a tropical place and this happens, but we did not see bugs in either of our other two less expensive hotels in Oaxaca de Juarez. This may bother some people more than others! I saw another review noting this so it seemed important to note. Overall a very cool hotel with a friendly team and great drinks, but for me I did not personally feel it was worth the money versus the experiences we had at our other hotels in this beautiful city.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Escondido in Oaxaca City. Pros; Our room was comfortable, bed and bath linens were high quality, as were the bathroom amenities. The hotel common areas are attractive and nice for hanging out, the vibe was relaxed and unpretentious. The daily continental breakfast was good, plenty of fresh juices, fruits, cold meats and cheeses and lovely baked goods. The staff we encountered were all delighful. particularly the young man at breakfast, the young man who waited on us with cocktails in the evening and the doormen. The doormen were really friendly, helpful and welcoming. Cons; the lighting in the bathroom was poor, it would be totally inappropriate for a lady who likes to apply a lot of makeup. I wish our room (12) had been a touch larger, it had a small balcony which was nice but had the room been 5 - 10 sq meters larger it would have been perfect. The rooms are not very sound proof and traffic noise can be quite loud early in the morning. Recommended !!
I am writing this review from our room at Hotel Escondido as we finish up a wonderful stay here. The property is stunning - from the finishes to the planting to all the artisanal details (the sitting room is a perfect place to read and relax!) and the beds are super comfortable. Yes, as some of the reviewers have mentioned there is some noise - but it’s a noisy city everywhere and it’s not so much as to disturb your stay. We stayed in room 10 and it was magical to wake up each morning to a beautiful view of the city in a corner room with huge clean windows and a balcony. But the thing that really made our stay special was the service! Everyone was so kind and welcoming but the standouts were Sabino, who greeted us each day with a smile, and Olin and Alan at the bar / restaurant who gave us such wonderful service when we had dinner there (which was also delicious and one of the best we had during our whole stay, by the way!) We will definitely be back someday and are so sad to leave in the morning!
