My husband and I, along with some friends, vacationed in Huatulco at Dreams a few weeks ago. We were not familiar with the area as we had always gone to Cancun/Riviera Maya, but we absolutely loved it. Its not nearly as crowded, the beaches are gorgeous, the resort is exceptional, and the staff was wonderful. A huge shout out to some of our favs; Christina in the preferred guest lounge, Janet our housekeeper, Eddy at the pool, Giovani & Neptale our waiters at Himitsu and many others. We took a private boat excursion to the 7 coves, saw some whales and snorkeled. So much fun and our captain, William, was amazing. We truly hated to say goodbye, and hope to see everyone again on our next visit very soon.

Travelled : March 22-29, 2026 2 Friends, sharing a room Stayed in a Double Queen Room, Preferred Club We really enjoyed our stay at Dreams Hualtuco, here is a high level overview: 1) Arrival & Check in: on the bus from the airport, ride took about 20 minutes or so. We arrived around 11AM but our room was not ready until after check-out time. This was a bit disappointing as it was hot and we wanted to take full advantage of the day but we were able to stow our luggage and explore the resort. 2) Our room: We stayed in a double room on the 6th floor. Facilities were fine, TV worked and the beds were reasonably comfortable. Air conditioner in your room which you have the ability to control, kept the room very comfortable. 3) The Resort: The hotel feels a bit dated, in need of some maintenence but you can tell the staff is working very hard to keep it clean and presentable. The pool & beach chairs book up very quickly in the morning. If you are looking for a good spot, you should have it booked by 6:30 in the morning. The Resort offered a lot of great activities, there was always something going on in the pool and the TV had a schedule letting you know all the things availbale to you. We personally did snorkelling (hotel has equipment) and kayaking one of the days. I felt the snorkelling was very good for this location and a fun daily activity. I saw a lot of fish, different kinds and colours, a puffer fish, a sting ray and 4 manta rays. All about 30 feet from the shore! 4) The Food: The food was really the downfall of this resort. We tried a few ala carts and attended the Mexican night in the courtyard. For the Mexican Night, it was really fun and interesting to see show and try foods different from the restaurants. The street corn cart was great but the rest of food was just ok. All I wanted was some really good tacos! For the Restaurants, the best was hands down the Asian Restaurant. It had a bit of a wait but they have buzzers you can take and move around with. Sushi was fresh and good. The Italian place was good, very good wine, my steak was very overdone but overall it was a decent experience. Breakfast and Lunch are at the buffets, the options are pretty similar day to day so it got pretty repetitive. 5) Preferred Club: With this upgrade it gave us a room on the top floor and access to a private lounge which had snacks and a bar. It was a nice place to have a drink before dinner or to grab a snack but it wasn't a massive plus. The best part of being Preferred Club was getting access to the private beach area which was less competitive and in a quieter area of the beach. You also had a server to bring you drinks. This was worth it for me. 6) Other item to note, we took a taxi into Hualtuco 2 of the nights for dinner. Taxis can be caught right out front and cost about 90-100 pesos each way (15 minute drive). There is lots going on and lots of restaurants around the town centre. It felt very safe (we are 2 women) and we covered quite a bit of ground. We stopped at La Crema for dinner and we highly recommend. We also went to Don Porfirio across the street on our last night, I don't recommend, the food was fine but very overpriced to what you can get a short cab ride away. (Dinner for 2 with 1 drink each was $300 CAD). 7) The weather was hot each day, the evenings are warm too, I did not wear my sweater or jacket once and was very comfortable. The heat of the day wasn't bad in the shade on the beach but it always felt much hotter up by the pool. Overall, we really enjoyed the laid back, sleepy vibe of this resort and this area of Mexico. If you are comfortable to venture off and experience the town, this is a really good vacation option for both family, couples or a friend vacation.
This is a great resort grate food and grate service. Rooms are beautiful. Ocean view is beautiful. I love it. 🥰 There is a lot of good food places around here. Pools are great for swimming. They also have 6 pools 2 are 13+. It was a little bit hot. 🥵
This is a beautiful resort. The beach is very walkable and you can also go walking outside the resort to several viewpoints. They have three large infinity pools, which were very quiet with very minimal loud music blaring. We prefer to sit on the beach where the water is warm and fairly calm. I highly recommend bringing a floatie for the water. I can’t say enough about the staff, they work very hard and are always pleasant. The food was ok, lots of variety. There are no reservations for the à la carte restaurants, they are first come first serve. And be prepared to get up by 6 am to get a chair by the pool or by the beach. Although I did see security taking towels off chairs for people who tried to reserve chairs too early.
Run down. Broken down. Dirty omelet station. All buffet areas look tacky like a school lunch line. Lacks decor touches. Food is the worst of all dreams I have been to. Tiles broken EVERYWHERE and was scary to walk out of my room. Ancient elevators. Shows were nice but not impressive and in our 5 nights, there was only 1 show. Staff is nice. Pool areas are clean. Daily room cleaning is nice. Beds are old and creaky. Bathroom appliances are ancient. Pictures online are deceiving. No preferred restaurant no pool for preferred guests either like other dreams locations . Preferred bar is terrible. Great beach front location. Room service comes late. Many couples complained of diarrhea and getting sick with colds in the middle and end of their trips including my husband and I so hygiene in the kitchen and cleaning of cups and utensils must be bad along with staff not cleaning hands as they clean up tables / pick up plates and deliver food / drinks. It is a quiet hotel with about 80% Canadian seniors who were lovely to talk to.
