The park features beautifully landscaped walking and biking trails, scenic picnic areas, sports fields, and interpretive signs that honor the region’s industrial and community history. Rising from the melting pot are 23 flags representing the different nations and communities whose people helped shape Whitney Pier and Sydney.
Polar Bear Beach is a small but unique spot along the coast of Sydney, Cape Breton. It’s most famous for the annual New Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim, where brave locals and visitors plunge into the icy Atlantic waters to celebrate the start of the year. Throughout the year, the beach offers beautiful ocean views, fresh sea air, and a glimpse into Sydney’s coastal charm. While it’s not a typical swimming beach, it’s a fun and memorable stop—especially if you visit during the winter tradition that gave the beach its name.

This striking red-and-white octagonal tower offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, rocky shorelines, and passing ships. Informative tour of downtown Sydney. Including historic sites. Lovely drive in the countryside. Lots of beautiful trees displaying fall colors. Historic light houses along the route.
Kavy was an amazing tour guide. Very friendly, personable and informative. He is also a great photographer. 😉. Highly recommended.
This tour was amazing! We had a fantastic time with City Hearts Tour and our guide was excellent!! Highly recommend it!
Nice private tour. So far, so good
The tour started out shaky because the pick up location and time had changed but once we got rolling it was great. Kavy was informative. Shared a lot of history. Took some pictures for us. Was very happy I took the tour.
Our tour guide was wonderful. But we booked thru TripAdvisor for 11 am and when we got off our cruise boat it had been rescheduled for 2 pm. I had even called the day b4 and told TripAdvisor I didn’t have service on the cruise boat to get any confirmation from the tour guide. If I wanted 2 pm I would have scheduled it for that time. So we were out in the cold windy weather from 10:15 to 1:45. Just beware of the schedule.
Easy and informative Drive was very scenic and enjoyed our driver explanation Finding guide was easy from the port
The tour was nice, but not really that much to see!
KV was a wonderful tour guide! I’ll make it back to Sydney one day and will definitely look for another tour with City Heart Tours.
Guide met us on time at the cruise port. He gave us the history of Sydney, Nova Scotia as he drove just the 2 of us around the island in a minivan. The weather was not great, drizzly and cold, but we had a very nice tour of Sydney.
7 adults were packed into a small suv like sardines. It was excessively cramped and uncomfortable. The highlight of this tour was looking at a vacant lot while the guide, who spoke broken English at best, described what used to be there. This tour should be labeled “involuntary confinement”.
Very good little short tour to see beauty of Sydney city and great history tooo
Very interesting as of small town great history and best scenic views and very friendly people
The ride which I had booked was worth it, the driver was good, hassle free booking
The tour itself was great! But I wish the advertising was much more clear. This is a small group tour in a car, not a tour group on a bus. The time was vague and says they are flexible so when I booked I requested afternoon. I found out the day before it was only at 10:30 and anything later would be a private tour for $120 more. Being in a car with a small group ending out being great! But we had no idea it was a small group, in a car, at 10:30 because none of that was clear when we booked.
Very weak guide who did not communicate well or have much to add above the scenery. Sydney is a small town in Nova Scotia and guide had little to say unless we asked questions.
Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and shared his passion for Sydney. He pointed aut interesting historical events in the city and expanded my global understanding of the world.
Sydney is a small port trying to make it. Our tour was in a taxi with five adult seats and one more for a small child. They tried to squeeze six adults in it. Fortunately complaining put two in another cab. Drove by a few sites, stopped at two quick stops. Got a little history. Then got dumped in town. Check the other tours. Skip this one.
It was a wonderful way to see the sights especially if you’re short on time. Kulveer Singh TD1332 was a wonderful tour guide. He was so knowledgeable about the sights. He was extremely personable and friendly. He was a great company which made our tour even better.
There isn’t much to see in Sydney. There are beautiful shorelines & seascapes. Our driver may have needed more rest, didn’t seem as enthusiastic for our tour. Lots of construction around the town/city.
Nothing to do. Tours boring. No foliage. History and map l e syrup, too expensive. Oysters 4.00 each!¡ why...the whole thing was disappointing
Best short tour ever happened did not planned as it and want to extend which was no problem from the guide and thank you guys fir booking as we requested You guys are very goid with care taking Thanks alott
Our Sydney city tour was such a pleasant surprise and a highlight of our trip to Cape Breton Island. The city is full of history, culture, and beautiful scenery. We saw the famous Big Fiddle, visited historic sites, and enjoyed the waterfront views that made for some amazing photos. The tour was comfortable and well-paced, with plenty of chances to explore and ask questions. Our guide really knew the area and shared so many interesting stories about the people, industries, and local life that brought the city’s history to life. From the ocean views to the cultural stops, everything was well planned. It was a fun and informative way to experience Sydney and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Cape Breton Island.
We had a amazing Sydney city tour with Jassi and it was one of the best days of our trip. The lighthouse was beautiful with stunning ocean views all around, and the beach had water so clear you just want to jump in. We also got to see windmills along the way, which made the scenery even more special. The military museum was very interesting with guns and bunkers full of history. Very good short tour to do while you are in Sydney Nova Scotia.Never knew that this small place has too much history to look about , Quite interesting , It was the perfect mix of nature, culture and history. I highly recomend this tour! Suggestions - Do little bit longer to see more things around .... Thanks for a wonderful time Alex Taylor
This tour was an amazing way to explore Sydney and see places I never expected. The highlight for me was visiting the lighthouse and walking along the rocky beach, where the views were absolutely stunning. We also stopped at a volunteering museum that holds so much hidden history—it was both surprising and inspiring to learn about it. The whole experience felt well balanced, with the right mix of sightseeing, storytelling, and time to enjoy each stop. Everything was well organized and easy to follow. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see the best of Sydney.
This was such a great way to explore Sydney! The harbour views were stunning, and we got to see both the city highlights and the beautiful coastline. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the experience really enjoyable with interesting stories about the area. I loved how the tour was well-paced—we had plenty of time for photos and to soak in the scenery without ever feeling rushed. It felt like the perfect mix of sightseeing, history, and local charm. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Sydney—it’s an unforgettable experience and a fantastic way to see the city!
