It’s a big fortress with alot of walking. We went in the fall perfect weather. Not as much going on as during the high summer season but completely worth the experience. The lighthouse was beautiful as well. After awhile they all look alike. Driver was great gave us as much time as we wanted within reason. He was happy to answer questions and give background as we drove. These type of tours are not personalized they take you and you are on your own. I highly recommend them.

During the time of year we were there it was about third closed. which I do understand, but the cost of the tickets I believe was the same as a summer visit with full access. With that being said the views from the fort and surrounding area was amazing. The history was in depth and the characters appeared to be spot on.
Great day visiting the fort. No guide, but period dressed actors in the restored houses on the interior of the fort to answer questions.
We had good communication with the company and found the agent just outside the gate from the ship. After identifying ourselves we were told to follow a young man who took us to a Mazda 3 sedan with a Taxi sign. He was a good driver but not an experienced guide. He spoke about some generalizations about the town and area on the drive. The first stop was the Railroad Museum which was closed, so off to the Lighthouse. We were given a little introduction to the lighthouse and left to explore the area trail and the lighthouse on our own. We next went to Louisbourg. We were taken to the ticket office where he purchased our $7.50 tickets and told he would meet us in the parking lot in an hour and a half. We were left to self guide the complex. We didn’t find it that interesting. You should know it’s a recent and complete reconstruction as a tourist attraction. I would say the guy was a careful driver and very courteous, but not really a guide. I wouldn’t do it again. You could rent a car and do the whole thing yourself.
Great communication from the tour provider. Picked up at the port at the appointed time by a friendly guide. Saw what we wanted and had a bonus visit on the way back to the charming little railway museum. Very pleased.
Fortress was interesting but not a guided tour. A few guides here and there to explain what you were looking at. Our driver was very good. He didn’t have a lot to share about the area but was willing to answer our questions.
The tour was exactly as advertised. Our driver/guide, Amanjot, was exceptional, timely, professional, knowledgeable and very friendly.
Well where do I start. I go to the meeting point by the cruise ship terminal and find out the tour time was pushed back. Instead of notifying me by text the time change was sent through their site. I was put in the front seat of a Toyota with two other passengers in the back seat. We drive to the fortress and was just dropped off. Admission was to be included (guided tour). It wasn’t. He ended up walking around on our own. We were to meet by the entrance at 1:00. It started to rain about 12:45 so I went to the entrance. He’s not there with the car. I am standing in the rain and finally called him to ask where he was. He finally drives up about 1:10. I am drenched. The fortress is truly amazing. The driver was nice but had a difficult time understanding him. This was the only Viator tour that I ever experienced.
We did only 2 of the 4 stops listed in the itinerary and both were picturesque and very enjoyable. Our guide Manny was friendly and very knowledgeable about the history of Sydney, the Fortress and lighthouse. This Viator tour did not list a start time which led to confusion and waiting for people that never showed up. We ended up with 4 people in a small clean, AC van. Our guide did not seem to know the complete itinerary or the duration of each stop according to the Viator tour listing. Bring food/water as the one restaurant was full with large groups. With a 4-5 hour time frame, a lunch in Louisbourg town would have been appreciated. We found one place on the fortress grounds that had pulled pork and soft drinks. Between that and packed snacks, we were fine. We definitely enjoyed our outing today.
Great spot to visit. The guide was most helpful and went beyond the stated purpose of the tour
The Fortress of Louisbourg was a great experience. The location is amazing. They also took us to the Lighthouse
The tour was well planned. It was my first time visiting the fortress and the whole experience was fun and a chance to learn about the fort's history. All thanks to Red leaf, they totally made every penny worth it to spend. I was so happy with their service, they made sure i make the best memories.
Fantastic guide, very personable gave us all the time we needed. Even stopped at the store on the way back!
Jack was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable about the fort, a lighthouse on the island, and the town of Sydney. It was nice to travel in a minibus in what was basically a private tour. Jack was very conscientious about making sure we were comfortable and that we could hear him in the back of the van. It would have been nice if he had a microphone, but he made it work. Jack really knew his history. He was a good driver and made sure we were back on time. I would recommend this tour group.
We loved this tour! Kulwinder "Jack" was personable and very knowledgeable. He was willing to listen to preferences of any of the four of us who were with him and accommodated those requests. He was excellent with history. We learned a lot while enjoying the beautiful scenery along the route. The fortress exceeded our expectations. The various reconstructed buildings were all very interesting and the furnishings were authentic to the time period. We enjoyed the small group tour experience with our friendly and capable guide.
Arrie was our amazing tour guide to Fortress Louisbourg. He tailored the tour to our taste so we stopped in the Railroad Museum and the nearby lighthouse. It was a magical day of wonderful sights— i’ve always wanted to see Louisbourg which was above expectations. Arrie made it extremely comfortable with excellent guiding and easy manner. I can’t wait to return to Sydney to hire him again for another fabulous day. My husband and I were both so pleased. Do not hesitate to book this great service.
Too short a duration for the visit to Louisbourg (90 minutes). The majority of the characters speak French, which was a plus for our visit. The driver gave very good explanations and answered various questions. Drove well and carefully. The vehicle was comfortable and clean. We appreciated the attention at the end of the excursion. Watch out at the lighthouse, there are no restroom facilities. It is still a very beautiful place to visit.
Our taxi was on time when we arrived on cruise. The driver told us about the history of Sydney and the Fortress on the way. Very courteous and well organized.
