Itinerary
Your adventurous day begins with a scenic drive to Peggy’s Cove. Located just under an hour’s drive away from Halifax, Peggy’s Cove is a picturesque fishing village with plenty to see and do. While driving up to Peggy’s Cove, your guide will point out notable sights, landmark, and scenic views. Upon arrival at Peggy’s Cove you will be given plenty of free time in which you can explore the area around the historical lighthouse, stroll along the ocean looking for tidal pools, head into the village to watch the fishermen come and go, or go shopping in one of the small boutiques and shops.
It is perhaps best known as the final resting place for over one hundred victims of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. Officially known as Fairview Lawn Cemetery, the non-denominational cemetery is run by the Parks Department of the Halifax Regional Municipality
Halifax Public Gardens are one of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian garden in North America. They were founded by the Nova Scotia Horticultural Society in 1836 and were recognized as a National Historic Site in 1984. The Halifax Public Gardens is also part of Canada’s Garden Route.
Drive by the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market, one of the oldest continuously operating farmers’ markets in North America, known for its vibrant local vendors and waterfront location.
Pass by Pier 21, Canada’s historic gateway to immigration where over one million newcomers first arrived in the country between 1928 and 1971.
Next you will stop at Citadel Hill. Throughout the tour you will explore prison cells and alleyways that date back to 1745. At the end of the tour you will watch the daily noon cannon fire.

The trip to the Titanic Cemetary was very moving and the Citidel was interesting. Peggy's Cove was wonderful, but the real star of the day was our guide, Neal. He was so knowlegable, not only about our sites, but all things Halifax. He was so personable when delivering facts that it felt like we were good friends and he was sharing his town. We just loved it. If you're in Halifax, ask to book withe neal.
Fabulous tour! Allowed plenty of time at each stop. Tour guide, Suzanne, was excellent!! She tailored so we were able to see cannon firing at citadel. Great experience!
There is a lot of driving and traffic in the city. That being said, it Was well worth it. Peggy’s cove was gorgeous, a quaint little neighborhood with a beautiful light house. You have to be at the Citadel before noon so you can watch the cannon go off….what a sight (and sound!!!). Titanic cemetery was a lovely tribute to all the souls onboard who didn’t make it. Suzanne, our guide, was personable and funny. Born and raised here she was knowledgeable about everything. Would definitely recommend.
Great tour. Small group. Plenty of time allocated at each stop.
very cute fishing village and the best lobster rolls! we had plenty of time to tour, shop and see the area and we enjoyed the whole trip
Fantastic tour. It was well organized and the tour guide was flexible, nice and knowledgeable. The time spent at each location was reasonable, too.
Jessica was very curt matter of fact, book teaching tour I would not recommend this tour to anyone she truly should no interaction with our group. It was one of the most bland boring tours we have ever been on. I/we felt like she was doing as only a pay check before you departed to go to South Korea to teach
We booked the Best of Halifax tour through Viator, not our cruise. It was an incredible value for the tour offered. Our tour guide, Suzanne, is a Halifax local who knew the area well and was a joy to speak with. The Mercedes van was comfortable and Suzanne was a safe driver. Peggy’s Cove is a beautiful stop and it was great to get away from the port. The citadel visit was very interesting and enjoyable to learn about. The Titanic Graveyard was fascinating but sad, Suzanne was a great source of information.
Our tour driver was just that a driver. He provided no information. We stopped at The Cidadel, Peggy’s Cove, and the Titanic Cemetery. At stayed with his vehicle and never provided gave any infirmation
Suzanne was excellent and very knowledgeable, would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to spend an afternoon enjoying everything Nova Scotia has to offer.
Kingsley was knowledgeable and excellent guide. Learned history Of Halifax and appreciated the banter
I had a great time! Highly recommend
Our guide was purely a driver. He was not a guide. His van was in poor condition and tight for six people. His accent made it very difficult to understand much of what he did say. We were extremely disappointed with this tour as we were very much looking forward to seeing Halifax. All of our prior Viator tours have been very good, but this certainly did not meet our expectations.
Good things I know about the tour, the driver gives Story and background of why it’s called Peggy’s cove
Our guide Jessica was absolutely awesome. She shared her knowledge and expertise at each planned stop along with so much information about the city and areas we traveled through. Just Outstanding!! I would leave more then 5 Stars with that were an option. If it is available, I would highly recommend this tour. Hands down one of the best we had on this cruise.
Tour guide must be on time with signage with Viator name. Location was not clear,no security people in bldg knew about Viator where to pick up. Where to stand. We were coming from a NCL cruise with limited time to take tour.no way to reach us cause on cruise. The start of trip was dis organized I felt we had a bad start. Your company Viator needs to improve communication and have your guide early to collect the passengers. My worst experience . I’m a repeat member of Viator I would like to request a refund. The tour guide just kept saying “Sorry” it’s not enough. Sorry does not help with the confusing and delay we had. Not happy not worth $100 each, very disappointed. Pat Quadir .
Such a knowledgeable driver, we learned a lot about Halifax and all the history or the region. Would highly recommend.
Great half day in Halifax. There were only 6 on our tour so everything was personalized. Jessica was great. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Stopped when people wanted photos (fall foliage). Started tour with the Citadel, then Titanic Cemetary, and last but not least Peggy's Cove.
Ashley is only 23 years old and is such a wealth of knowledge. We all so much enjoyed our experience.
Need an experienced guide otherwise it’s quite boring. Most of time you are in the car driving. Without commentary it’s not enjoyable
We finally found out tour guide at the cruise port and then we had to wait for 2 additional passengers. Our driver, Oksana, did a great job of driving safely and sharing lots of information about the area. Peggy's Cove was soooo crowded and there were only 4 bathrooms for both men and women to utilize.
The guide was very good. Jessica told us about history! People on the tour did not listen. One couple never came out of tje Citidal. Jessica went in to look for them twice, called and texted. We left and went back after the cemetery but we still could not fine them. They never informed the guide as to where they went. We wanted time trying to find them
This company must have been short staffed because they brought in a new person from another state. It was his first day and he told us absolutely nothing about the places that we saw. He just dropped us off and said he'd be back at a certain time. I knew nothing about the Citadel before the tour, no background information was given. Same thing with Peggy's Lighthouse. We didn't get to go to the Cemetery because we ran out of time and had to get back to our cruise ship. I thought we spent too much time at the lighthouse so I think the time could have been managed a little better. I did like the small group of five people and the van ride was comfortable.
The tour started very inauspiciously. Someone at the tour company never bothered to check which pier our cruise ship was arriving at (not the usual one I was told but easily verified online). There were two other couples on our tour, all from our ship and all were told different meeting places. We lost almost a half hour while the guide found and collected us, separately, from around the cruise port. We were on a tight schedule given our ship's all aboard time. We ended up not stopping at the Citadel and just driving by it. On the positive side, our guide, Ashley, was very pleasant and knowledgeable and we enjoyed having her as our guide and I think the other couples shared that view. Ashley added a lot of value on a hectic day.
For us it was a worthwhile shore excursion just to see some of the sights outside of the port area. Our guide was very good, a smart and friendly young lady. The Mercedes van we traveled in was top notch. After the excursion, we really enjoyed a meal at the Five Fishermen in Halifax which was the highlight of our day.
We enjoyed this day trip of Halifax and Peggy's Cove. Our tour guide Ashley was extremely knowledgeable of the area and so sweet. Our ship didn't get clearance for us to get off at the time we had scheduled. She patiently waited more than 30 minutes for us to get off. That meant alot. Sightsee tours are fortunate to have her.
It’s a great trip. The tour guides really told us about the history of the places that we visited. Very informative and fun.
Primarily for cruise passengers, so you need to get to the cruise terminals for pickup. Comfortable minivan, but be aware of this in terms of bringing stuff and if you have mobility issues. (For older participants, there are toilets at Peggys Cove and inside the Citadel) June was an incredibly knowledgable and helpful guide. We were very lucky with the weather - beautiful journey through autumn landscape to Peggy's Cove, which was (relatively) busy with tours even in October - you're unlikely to get a photo without someone else in it, but it'll still be stunning. We got about 45 minutes there, but the place is so small, that was long enough to get the obvious photo shot and to explore the shops - as a taster of it, it was perfect. The 6 of us on the tour all got chatting very quickly, June set up a very friendly vibe in the van, and gave us lots of background information about the area, and recommendations of other places to go to find out more. The Citadel was very interesting, but again, for walkers, the top of the walls are not accessible for those with high mobility issues. We had about an hour to explore before being picked up, with the option of going back to the cruise terminal, or dropped elsewhere in downtown, eg the Public Gardens, and it was fine for me to say good bye to everyone and leave the trip to walk down to the waterside. Communication about pick up from the company was very clear. Excellent value, and June deserves a rise please (or someway we could tip?)
Overall, a good tour, however, I was disappointed that it did not include the Titanic museum. My bad when picking the tour.
Our tour guide met us near our ship and took us on a great tour to Peggy's Cove and the Halifax cemetery where many Titanic passengers were buried. Our trip was not able to include a tour of the fort (but we drove around it) due to a late morning cruise ship being late and other passengers in our van wanting to make an early arrival to their ship. The guide did a great job of meeting the needs of everyone.
It would be nicer if the times at each location was a little bit longer, but considering the amount of what we got to see within the 4 hours (and that our tour guide June was delightful and knowledgeable) was worth the experience.
Oksana was really nice and she was on time. Travelling solo I felt very comfortable and secure. I loved Peggy’s , was my goal to visit from my whole trip. Small group also I recommend!
Very windy on the coast.. Peggy's cove is beautiful but, Time a little short to do everything there. Titanic gravesite is very solemn. The Citadel is a wonder.
Our tour guide/driver, June, was exceptional. She was an excellent driver and very knowledgeable of the historical areas.
Driver was a no show! We waited 45 minutes and emailed, called, and texted them to send out another driver. It was frustrating to say the least. Although Peggy’s Cove was beautiful, getting there was an awful experience.
It’s a lot of travel time (about an hour each way) from Halifax. Our guide, Oksana, while her English was adequate, spoke too quickly and with her accent, she was difficult to understand.
June was an exceptional tour guide. Would give her 10+ rating. Very informative and knowledgeable throughout tour. Great sense of humor and made the tour fun. Went above and beyond in helping stranded travelers find a way back to ship. Would highly recommend!
I wanted to shout out Suzanne for making the entire group feel comfortable, she made sure everyone was happy and enjoying the tour. As a solo traveler I felt safe and had a blast.
Cheaper than the excursion offered on the cruise. 6 persons in a comfortable van with A Tour guide. Our guide was Jordyn. She was knowledgeable of the sites we visited and we enjoyed her bubbly personality and stories.
Too much time at the Citadel, not a lot of information given on the tour by the guide. Not worth the price
Don’t miss it! We were in a very comfortable SUV that held 6 passengers! Oksama did an awesome job! Peggy’s Cove is a 40 min drive out but so worth it! I would do it again!
It was wonderful. I think its important to know that if you are traveling with another couple or group, make 1 reservation. The couple we traveled with were on another bus. Viatour should have some way of indicating it on the reservation if you are traveling with someone else on the same excursion. Also want to give a shout out to Neil, he was great!!So informative, knowledgeable and very kind. He is an asset to Viatour!
We've done this tour twice now, and I'm now of the opinion, I'd recommend doing a different tour that simply focuses on what is probably most people's favorite - Peggy's Cove. Given the distance and the inclusion of the two other locations (Citadel, and Titanic graveyard), there just isn't enough time to fully enjoy any of them. On our last tour, we spent so much time at the Citadel, that Peggy's cove only had 30 mins.. and that's after a loooonnnngg drive to get there, more than a bit disappointing. The Titanic graveyard... a total snooze IMO. I think your best bet is any tour that only focuses on one or two... only because the distances between are so far.
This tour is nice, however WAY too much time was spent at the Citidel on our recent outing, with only 30 mins allotted for Peggy's Cove, which is arguably the best part. The cemetery was a disappointment, over 5 different busses all there at the same time. Ultimately wont do this tour again, rather just a direct to Peggy's Cove if returning.
Tour guide was friendly, but would've thought she would accompany us into the Citadel and give us commentary which she did later on in the van. Titanic graveyard was unimpressive. Not enough time in Peggys Cove.
Friendly and knowlegable driver. Fun experience. Stayed on time with schedule. Pickup was on time. Would recommend. Needs more time at Peggy’s cove.
It was a fun afternoon, once we got underway. A total snafu at pickup for others who had paid for this tour. So our guide had to help navigate that. A bit disappointing we had to waste our time for that. Too long at citadel and not long enough at Peggy’s Cove. Our guide, June was wonderful.
Our tour guide, Oksanq, very sweet and very knowledgeable. We learned alot thanks to Oksana. Our ship was late coming in and we communicated with Oksana and she kept us in the loop
Great trip ~ a snapshot of Halifax in a few hours. We visited Peggys Cove with amazing views across the sea, the Titanic Cemetery which was a moving and poignant experience and finally onto the Citadel with views across Halifax. Our driver and Guide was fantastic and provided useful and interesting information throughout the half day trip. Shame cannot remember his name but he was a young guy with a floppy hat 🙂. Our Guide was kind enough to drop us off at the Harbour front instead of our hotel
