Itinerary
At the heart of Durham's historic old town, your guide will tell the story of Lord Londonderry, whose statue dominates the scenery, and Durham's mining heritage.
Situated on the winding River Wear, above the former dungeons of Durham, Elvet Bridge sets the scene for the story of Jimmy Allen, the People's Piper, who had a nightclub named after him.
Home to the stunning Hotel Indigo and Prison Green, where convicts were executed in Durham, the historic street of Old Elvet is where travellers will hear about Britain's first (and most notorious) female serial killer.
Part of the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site, Durham's impressive Norman castle is now home to students, but also allegedly to two mysterious ghosts...
Durham's UNESCO World Heritage Site landmark is located opposite the castle. The Cathedral IS Durham's skyline and your guide will tell you about one peculiar saint, who is buried there, and had a college named after him.
With a view once painted by none other than William Turner himself, Prebends Bridge leads the travellers to an inconspicuous object, which might have inspired a certain C.S. Lewis one cold winter...
Along the banks of the River Wear, a famous local legend was spun, involving a knight, a dragon, a witch and a curse. Here travellers can enjoy one of the postcard views of Durham Cathedral and the Old Corn Mill by the Riverside.
Leading up to Silver Street, your guide will tell the story of Durham's own Dick Whittington and his shiny fortune. Just mind the seagulls!

A lot of fun. Tom is friendly, funny, and engaging. Great stories too! Also very knowledgeable about a city he clearly loves. His many skills include walking backwards and spotting cows. Thank you, Tom. 5 stars
Our guide, Tom was fantastic; amusing, very knowledgeable and kept us all focused, engaged and entertained despite a wide age range in the group. A definite 'Recommend' from us! Durham is a hilly place, so do wear appropriate footwear.
I was blown away by how good the tour was. Super knowledgeable and charismatic.
My partner and I joined Tom on his walking tour this weekend - informative, engaging, funny, thoroughly interesting - and a great value for money too. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Durham!
We had a fabulous time on this tour! Tom was both knowledgeable and entertaining, the walking pace was perfectly pitched, we saw things we’d not otherwise have spotted, and Tom shared a wealth of information that really enhanced our visit to the city. Highly recommended. Thank you ☺️
Tom was a brilliant guide and we can thoroughly recommend him. As we walked around the city we learned interesting and unusual facts and stories about some of its previous inhabitants and key buildings and monuments. We learned much more than we could have done by using a guidebook or audio guide and it was clear that Tom loves the city of Durham and has undertaken significant research which is keen to share with his customers. Thank you Tom!
Very interesting tour & Tom was an excellent knowledgeable & entertaining guide. I would definitely recommend him to friends.
Tom was brilliant. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had quite a range in our group 21-65 but everyone learnt something. Tom was also very flexible when my mum became ill and we needed to change the dates last minute-thank you Tom! He was also patient with my mum and her slower walking and mobility not to mention her funny questions. Would highly recommend for something different in Durham!
Interesting tour, great guide & excellent value. Highly recommend.

Great guide. Knowledgeable about Durham. hilly, so be prepared to walk. Guide was humorous and interesting.
Tom was a fantastic guide. He was engaging, funny and extremely knowledgeable. He always had answers to our questions and encouraging our participation in the tour.
Tom is such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. Enjoyed hearing about the history and folklore of Durham, as first time visitors. Enjoyed crossing the Ove Arup bridge, taking a different route and perspective we would never have discovered on our short trip. We were puzzled as to why our fellow Scots kept trying to take the Castle and Durham over the centuries until unification....definitely would have been in my 'too hard' box! Highly recommend this tour and worth way more than £11 per person 😊
Really enjoyed the walk around Durham on what was a lovely sunny day. Our guide was a really friendly person who was very knowledgeable and had a good store of interesting (from a historical and character point of view) and at times amusing stories. A great way to spend 90 mins in Durham

We struck lucky with this one. When we met Thomas our guide he told us we were the only two people on the tour. What followed was a really personal, funny, entertaining and very informative tour of the city. Amazing guide, great value and very highly recommended.
Brilliant tour! Tom is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Tour is very well thought out and informative. Would heavily recommend to anyone, well worth the money :)
My teen son and I went on this tour and it was absolutely amazing. We come to the area regularly to visit family so know the area a bit but this tour brought Durham to life with the stories and history. My 13 year old still talks about this tour so thank you. It was so engaging and interesting. The tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and kept us entertained with stories of Durham and its historic people. The tour guide was so good he should be hosting his own history show on TV!!!
My guide was very informative and insightful. He provided a stellar introduction to the history of Durham and many of the curious inhabitants who've walked its cobbled streets. Absolutely a must do if, like me, you're new not just to Durham but the whole region. I did an evening tour in February so some areas got a little dark but that made it atmospheric for me.
A really enjoyable and knowledgeable tour of Durham. Great to get to see places we would not have stumbled upon. Great value for money!
