We initially looked for a physical guide, but couldn’t find one to suit our availability, so went for the audio guide as second choice. What a great revelation. The App used GPS to trigger comments for the local and very well informed guide. This meant you could move at your own pace, stop for a look at a shop or even take a coffee mid-way through the tour. Devon, who voices the guide was informative, humourous and a local, which added to the experience. First time we’ve tried an audio walking guide and would seriously consider using one again. It was inexpensive and highly recommended for anyone wanting to hear about Whitby from an enthusiastic resident.

A very good informative tour that you can do at your own pace
Perfect tour. Very informative with good humour
Would highly recommend this tour. We had a fab time doing this with our two dogs. It really made a wet gloomy day so much more fun. Super easy to set up and follow.
Listen and Enjoy! Loved it! It was great to stop and start when I wanted. I veered off the tour for a bit to look at something else along the way and then simply took up where I left off! Lots of great information I shared with locals who are keen to do the tour! Excellent way to begin a visit to Whitby! This would be great for all the small townships around Whitby!
Very interesting tour of the town with lots of quirky historical stories and information provided. Guide is very passionate about the town which showed in the level of detail. Highly recommended.
Excellent self guided tour. So easy to set up and use, brilliant that it can be paused along the way. Very interesting information that appealed to us and our teenagers. Good value for money.
We came in to Whitby on the Middlesborough train joining at Castleton Moor at around 11.00. We left Whitby at 16.00 for the return. It was charming and scenic. This line is a lot cheaper than from Pickering, except without any steam engines.
Only went for the day this time had a fabulous lunch at Marine the sea food platter excellent. Whitby is a charming sea side town with many good shops and bars.
First time to use this type of app and found it very easy to use. The narrator was excellent, both informative, light hearted and easy to listen to. The whole package is excellent with the ability to pause and rejoin the tour or to listen to the commentary away from the tour to remind yourself about certain facts or stories. Highly recommended and would use similar tours again.
Great audio tour of Whitby. We liked the way it stopped when we stopped for a beer or cake. The narrator was amusing and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.
Found the app very easy to use. Tour was a really good way of seeing interesting points in Whitby as we have never been before. We had a good couple of hours as didn't rush it. Would definitely recommend.
Was great to walk at own pace and have an individual tour by some who knew the local area and history. As the tour used your allocation you could stop and look around and when you moved on the tour continued. Very easy to follow as directed where to go with very clear directions. Very enjoyable
really enjoyable information about Whitby with a good 1 hour plus walk. Took a stop for coffee and just continued
We loved this little self guided audio tour. It afforded the ability to stop whenever we wanted and take in the sights. The guide was fun & very knowledgeable. We learned many things we would have had no idea about had we not been told by a local. Thanks so much!!!
what a AMAZING experience this was… i’m so glad we decided to take this tour… it really was a inspiring insight into whitby. we was still talking about it the next day and reciting bits we had learnt. i’d definitely recommend anyone to to this at the start of their stay in whitby… it was very easy to follow. a great way to explore the sights
Good tour & nice manner. Pointed out things we’d have missed otherwise. Just needs updating slightly (we did the tour in December 23 -Cook Museum closed down & sculpture at the end of the pier apparently gone).
Very simple to download and install app for a turn by turn review of the historical sites of Whitby, starting at the Cook memorial and finishing across on the opposite side at the Abbey. Lots of information given, well worth it to settle you in to a break in Whitby
The tour was a really great thing to do by myself whilst the rest of my family went sea fishing. It was really easy to download and follow. I really enjoyed the history and stories about Whitby. I have visited Whitby several times but it was great to have things pointed out that I would have previously not noticed.
What a wonderful overview of the history of Whitby, it’s really enhanced our visit. I’m not very technical but despite that we managed to get everything working. We did the tour over three days, it was great to be able to stop and start multiple times. The route is quite hilly in parts (not surprisingly) but we’ll worth the effort. Thanks, loved every minute and every nugget of information, great fun.
The app was easy to load and the instructions were very clear. The comentary was excellent giving us easy directions to each stopping point where he pointed out interesting places giving the history as well as local stories/legends. It was a great way to see Whitby visiting different parts of the town we wouldn't have seen. An excellent day and at avery reasonable price., so worth it.
Really good tour, covers all the historic spots and highlights in Whitby. It takes a couple of hours but you can stop and start wherever you like, which is lucky as I needed.a drink after the 199 Steps!
we enjoyed the tour and learnt some unexpected details about Whitby and the people who lived there. We forgot our ear plugs but we managed to listen, although it was more difficult to hear with outside noises.I would do it again.! we relly enjoyed it as we could go at our own pace.
It was perfectly timed, an easy to follow and informative audio tour of Whitby. Thoroughly recommend
Absolutely brilliant. We have been to Whitby previously but missed so much. Loads of information gained from this walking tour. Loved it!!
Even though we have been to Whitby previously we learnt so much from this informative audio. It was just about right in its length and content. We would highly recommend it as it is well worth the cost.
Great walking tour on fantastic app. Really informative from a historical perspective. Great instructions and directions. Walks and pauses with you (if stopping for refreshments). Gives you a real sense of the town and helps you get your bearings. All im a lovely local accent.
Really informative tour with easy to follow instructions. The guide being local made it seem even more relevant.
Clear and informative narrative made this walk fascinating and very enjoyable. I’m a woman of few words, so that’s all I have to say
Great idea however due to mobility restrictions we were unable to start the tour from the 1st point of interest and then found it hard to catch up so we were unable to complete the tour. It would be great if there was an alternative tour which started on the pier then you can look up to the 1st point.
Excellent tour. Really enjoyed it. Very informative and interesting. Just the right length. Would recommend. The mist came in so added to the atmosphere.
Whitby is a lovely town with a lot to do and see. Great atmosphere and great fish and chips! Beware the seagulls, they like them too!
Fantastic way to explore Whitby and great price too. You can stop and start at your own pace. I believe this audio is also available in other cities.
Iain helped me overcome a few technical difficulties before we set off. Informative and very interesting. Never having been to Whitby before it was an ideal introduction to the town.
The whole experience was amazing, knowing where to go and what it is we were looking at. We rely got to see the hidden bits of Whitby that without the tour we'd struggle to find.
This tour was well devised and entertaining. What a wonderful idea to be able to take this tour at our own pace and to stop and pick up again if needed, the information contained was interesting. I will be recommending the tour and using it again in other places.
What a brilliant way to understand this beautiful place. An ear bud each, two dogs and a fascinating walk with the funny, informative and crucially - local guide. We could stop and start as needed to include pub stops and photo opportunities.
The tour was really interesting, the right mix of history and curiosities about Whitby. It was a pleasure to listen to the guide
This is incredible! Like being shown round by a local - mentions pubs, famous sites, spooky details. Really excellent!
Whitby is small town with a lot of interesting places. this tour enabled us to get around and learn what we was looking at. It was very easy to operate and you could return as and when you were ready
This was the first time I have ever used an GPS-triggered audio tour of a town. I must say my wife and I were pleasantly surprised at how well this tour worked. The narrator gave clear directions to help navigate around the city. He gave detailed explanations of all the key landmarks, and a few side alleys thrown in for good measure. He painted a quaint picture of the town and helped us to appreciate its beauty even more. It is worth pointing out that following a self-guided tour allows you to take it at your own pace, and also revisit places on another occasion. As for the technical aspects, overall the tour works very well. It uses GPS to trigger the audio when you are within a certain distance of a point of interest. It does presumably mean you need adequate 3G signal strength. I would, to avoid technical hitches, recommend downloading the audio using WiFi, before you set off on the tour. When my wife and I were using the tour on our own separate devices, we did find that the audio triggered at slightly different times, but this was not a major issue as we could pause and rewind the audio. Turning off power-saving modes on our phones made things trigger more in synchrony. While using the tour our phones seemed to drain a lot of battery. I presume this is because we had the screen turned on to use the map and due to its use of GPS. Hence I would recommend starting the tour with as much battery charge as possible, or use a portable battery charger.
First time I've used a narrated self guided tour and it was great, would highly recommend it, all worked well after restarting the app
Whitby is amazing, lots of little shops, pubs and restaurant/cafes, busy times of the year or weekends expect a bit of a queue, will be going again. Plenty of B&B's or camping options.
Absolutely brilliant! We downloaded the tour prior to visiting, and the weather wasn’t too kind to us, but the tour gave us an opportunity to learn and see bits of Whitby we probably would t have gone to without it…..like the floral clock. We did it over two days….paused for fish n chips in the drizzle, and deciding to continue the next day……. I liked the personality of the tour guide which came through. I just put one ear bud in ……and we downloaded to our two phones…..excellent value for money….and I got brownie points from my Hubbie.
This tour takes about 2.5 hours - we did it over two mornings which was perfect for us - you could do it over a day and stop for lunch It was good to find out about the history of Whitby and also the connection of Dracula with this town Definitely worth the money
I bought two tours. Mine worked brilliantly for two stops but the other had the map but no audio. We then received no further communication from the tour for the whole of our day (5 hour visit) . Such a shame as what we heard was really interesting.
This tour was easy to load onto our phone and gave us a really interesting walking tour of Whitby, which we could do at our own pace. We stopped off en route to visit the Whitby Museum and then for a cuppa and cake in Sanders Yard Restaurant. Our local guide was Devon Howard, who had superb knowledge of Whitby and guided us around, with a great sense of humour. A fab way to see this glorious town, even during Coronavirus restrictions.
Excellent tour. Automatically picks up where you are and stops and starts depending on your progress. Informative and amusing in equal part. Thoroughly recommended.
Great audio tour which was as good as using a local guide. Easy to use & follow using your smartphone. Very informative & well narrated with various points of interest.
An thoroughly engaging tour. The local narrator gave it an added air of authenticity. The app worked well with my iPhone and Bluetooth earbuds, which allows my partner and I to share the experience.
