I’m from Co Durham originally and was visiting the area with friends from the Midlands. Ken was an excellent guide. He gave us a lot of information about the history of the city and its surrounding towns and villages. It was useful to hear about Lord Londonderry’s influencer in the area as a trip to Seaham was on our itinerary. I would certainly recommend his tours.
Ken is an excellent tour guide. Very good knowledge and company. Would highly recommend. This was done at very short notice 👌
Excellent Durham City Tour led by very well informed, enthusiastic and friendly guide Ken. He took into account places we’d already explored and adjusted the walk accordingly. A thoroughly enjoyable and informative couple of hours.
Spent a great two hours with Ken. There were just two of us on the tour. He is warm and friendly and knowledgeable. Nice easy tour of beautiful Durham. Not a strenuous walking tour as Durham is not big, suitable for most people. Great tour guide. Thanks for making it fun Ken! Sarah and Tom from New Zealand.
Ken was a friendly and knowleadgable guide - providing local history and stories with connections to other parts of Britain. We learned a few new things about William the Conqueror and his superstitions as well as an unlikely friendship between a near-giant man and a poetic Polish dwarf. This 2 hour walk also gives some good exercise.
Ken's in-depth knowledge of Durham's history, including the city, surrounding area, and the magnificent cathedral; along with his excellent presentation skills, provided for a very memorable experience.
An excellent walking tour of Durham with many interesting stories along the way. I would highly recommend Ken if you’re wanting to know more about this beautiful place.
Ken was really helpful in setting up the tour and being flexible around timings and locations. On the day he brought each place to life with interesting stories, and is a font of knowledge on all things Durham. There were lots of places we would have missed if not for the tour. Highly recommended!
Ken provided a great private walking tour for our group of 8 book club friends who had read the wonderful novel ‘Cuddy’ He had lots of interesting information about characters & buildings in the city & he delivered the tour at an appropriate walking /talking pace. We all really enjoyed the 2 hours we spent together & would recommend Ken if you are looking for some accessible history! Thanks Ken.
We all really enjoyed this walking tour around Durham and would recommend Ken for the interesting and engaging stories he shared. We visited parts of medieval Durham we would never have discovered on our own. Worth every penny
Great knowledgeable guide visiting interesting places that you wouldn’t know to look at . 2hour tour walking from cathedral , river side and central Durham
Great and very insightful shame about the weather. Really highly recommended was first time me and June done anything like this and will do it again in another city
Ken provided a fascinating tour of Durham. He knows the historical dates and events, adds in a bit of humor and is very courteous. His flexibility afforded me the opportunity to see things I was most interested in. Great tour.
We booked the Durham city and cathedral tour and so glad we did. The communication in advance from Ken was excellent and hence the meeting point, time and type of tour was well planned. Ken’s knowledge of both the city and cathedral was incredible and so well delivered. The pace of the tour was perfect and at two hours was excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much Ken
Ken was a marvelous guide in Durham, we saw town historic sites, the outside of the cathedral and and even had a lovely short river walk. He was full of information and answered our questions as well. He kept the pace just right for us and was very accommodating!
Hello all from Cliff the Aussie, currently in Durham City U.K. My wife and I are in Durham for a few months more before returning to Western Australia. With some time to spare this morning after walking around the centre of the area we thought to go for a wander and find somewhere for coffee and lunch. A short walk and we found "The Neighbourhood at Hotel Indigo Durham". Open for breakfast and lunch the place is just minutes walking distance from the thriving centre of Durham City. Inside the decor is friendly and tidy with space to spare on the ground and upper levels. The cafe is open for breakfast and lunch and the menu is substantial and realistically priced to cater for locals and travellers. The cakes were delicious and our meals were tasty. My wife recommends the Turkey Club Baguette and my breakfast wrap fed my healthy appetite with ease. The staff went above and beyond to attend to our needs. They were efficient and super friendly and we look forward to seeing the team again next year. Thanks for everything. Cliff and Susan the Aussies.
This was a terrific tour. Ken was interesting and so very knowledgeable about Durham. I saw much more of the town on the tour and the views were beautiful. I highly recommend this tour
Ken is a knowledgeable guide who makes history come alive. It was an informative and entertaining tour. Highly recommended.
Wonderful guide: knowledgeable, witty and generally a nice bloke. Also volunteers at the cathedral. Definitely worth booking.
Guide was excellent. Good company. Informative. Very responsive. The tour was very well paced. He explained what was planned and checked we were happy with it. He also made further recommendations for our afternoon exploring Durham. Highly recommend
Ken was a fabulous tour guide for our family trip to Durham. He personalized our walking tour to suit our interests at our pace. He is a polished communicator and shared many points of interest and stories we would not have found on or own or with guide books. His local and historical knowledge was remarkable. He also pointed out some great places to eat during our visit. I highly recommend his walking tour. Thank you Ken!
Despite heavy rain, Ken provided an informative tour of Durham, providing some intriguing historical gems.
Ken was very informative with so much knowledge but put it across in a very informal way so not too high brow. We saw some lovely views of the city that you would not find on your own and his knowledge of the cathedral when inside just brought it to life for you. Great tour fully recommend.
Time went past so quickly, Ken is so engaging and informative, a real gem to get an insight into the area and its history. Blue badge holder too. I would 100% recommend this tour, you cannot get this from a book, so don't waste your time, start your adventure with the knowledge that makes everything else you see fall into place. Excellence absolutely. Thank you Ken!
Incredibly informative, a really nice experience and we learnt lots about Durham. If you want to learn a lot about Durham and it’s history, try this tour with Ken.
Ken is the most informative, amusing and knowledgeable guide I've ever come across. Absolutely amazing. Can't recommend highly enough.
So knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, funny, great company - couldn't have asked for a better companion.
A wonderful two hours. Ken is exceptionally knowledgable and goes at a good pace, allowing for a lot of questions and history to be included from whatever angle takes your fancy. There is a beautiful part of the walk along the riverbank which made Durham really very special. Strongly recommend this tour.
Excellent tour guide! Very knowledgeable and professional, highly recommended! Have learned so much just In couple of hours! Recommended tour at 100%. Love Durham! Certainly will be back! Thank you 🙏 😊😊
We did the City tour, plus an add on Cathedral tour with Ken on a rainy day in March. Ken is a walking encyclopedia, full of knowledge about Durham'spast and the many fascinating features of the city's mighty cathedral. Durham Cathedral is a Norman building constructed between 1093 and 1133 in the Romanesque style to house the shrine of St. Cuthbert. Given the persistent showers, we were glad we added the extra time in the cathedral as Ken's commentary brought the building to life. If you love history and want to get immersed in local lore, go with Ken! As an added bonus, take the 300 plus steps up the claustrophobic stairway to the cathedral tower - the clouds lifted for us and the views were magnificent...
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 hour walking tour of Durham with Ken as our guide. We decided we would like a historic overview of the city and he was happy to accommodate our wishes. His tour was extremely accessible and interesting with many different points of interest. We’d definitely recommend Ken as a knowledgeable and entertaining guide.
Great overview of the history of the city and the context of how and why it has developed and grown as it has.
Me and my partner had a fantastic couple off hours exploring and learning the sights around Durham even if the weather was against us very enjoyed walking around the cathedral thanks again Ken
Thank you Ken for a friendly, informative and interesting tour. We appreciated your offer of a general city tour or city plus cathedral. We felt that you gave us a really good understanding of the history of Durham and your knowledge of the cathedral added an extra dimension to our visit.
We eventually got to Durham after cancellations due to train strikes which Ken was very accommodating about. We met at The Market Square and as the weather was against us Ken tailored our 2 hour tour to try and keep us dry. Very interesting history of the Market Square and surrounds and then an interesting route to the cathedral which is stunning, Kens knowledge of the building and history was insightful and fascinating. We then left through the cloisters and made our way to the river where we parted company. The tour enhanced our visit no end and we recommend him wholeheartedly.
A lovely couple of hours exploring the famous sights as well as all the nooks and crannies of Durham with Ken, who was a wealth of interesting information. The perfect introduction to a beautiful and historic city.
My wife and I greatly enjoyed our walking tour of Durham with Ken Bradshaw. Ken was friendly, courteous and well-informed. He had a very comprehensive understanding of the city and its buildings and history. His tour was a pleasure and a highlight of our trip to Durham. We would highly recommend Ken's tour to any visitor to Durham. R. Beattie, Toronto, Canada
Ken Bradshaw have us a wonderful tour of Durham Cathedral and the river area . His facts and information was very informative . Thank you
Ken gave our group a brilliant tour of Durham Cathedral and City centre. He tailored the content of the tour perfectly to the interests of our group and was full of interesting anecdotes to make the city come alive for us. I'd highly recommend him.
Ken was so knowledgeable and engaging during our Durham City tour. I highly recommend him and we learned a great deal about Durham!
A very belated thank you to Ken for providing a really nice look at Durham and some of the local, lesser known history. I also really appreciate him accommodating the extreme heat to provide the walk. Please consider this walking tour if you go to Durham. Really nice walk full of history and conversation! A lot of walking tours seem like "productions" but this one was really nice. Will be bringing my Fiancé back in October for another tour with Ken. Despite the oppressive heat, we had a nice walk. You will end up in the Cathedral and Ken know this place in so much detail.
My daughter and I met Ken in the market place and he very kindly waited while we grabbed some water. He had also pushed our tour back as it was so hot when we visited - this meant that we had a beautiful evening stroll. Ken was in touch with us beforehand to make sure that everything was clear and this was very much appreciated. The tour itself was extremely informative. Ken took us through Durham at a leisurely pace so that we traversed the historical streets gaining knowledge and a sense of the place as we wandered. We would never have been able to do this for ourselves. Ken has a very pleasant manner and we felt confident with him as well as entertained by his knowledge. I would thoroughly recommend this to visitors to the area and also to students wishing to find out more about their new home.
Ken was a friendly & knowledgeable guide. Who I would highly recommend! Well worth it! A good 2 hours of getting to know Durham!
Ken communicated with me beforehand about a meet-up point so we didn’t lose any time with that. His tour, based on Durham history, was easy to understand with also some humor spiked in. We covered a good share of the central area on foot.
Ken was an excellent tour guide. He really knows his stuff. He was also very flexible, going where we requested. It was a private tour, but this was unexpected and we didn't pay a private tour fee. Ken also changed the start time from 1630 to 0800 to accommodate our schedule. He was one of the best and most knowledgeable tour guides we have ever experienced
Ken is a wonderful guide, full of facts, humour and great stories which really bring the city to life. We all absolutely loved it and we were still talking about what we’d learnt for days after. We were a mixed bunch and Ken made sure he included and considered all members of our group. It’s amazing what you can find out in an hour in this beautiful historic city and we loved the hidden highlights just off the trodden path. Would definitely recommend. Thanks Ken!
Ken did a walking tour for our mixed group of locals with a baby and out-of-towners with a teen. He was a reassuring and friendly guide who really knew his stuff. Ken took us to see hidden bits of the castle wall, shared great insights about the history of Durham, and gave us a great sense of what the buildings, city and area are all about. The tour was both entertaining and educational. He's highly recommended by all of us!
Ken was brilliant! He was both knowledgable and humorous and had us captivated right from the start. Even though we have been to Durham many times before, he showed us lots of new things. He amazed us with interesting and memorable things about Durham which we had never seen or heard before. Thoroughly recommended!
