Peter was a great guide. He had been accidentally double booked so had us join his Pub and History tour. It was just four of us on tour and Peter provided a very personable tour of Durham.
Peter was an extremely knowledgeable and fun tour guide. We learnt and saw lots. Highly recommended his tour.
Peter is very knowledgeable, kind and patient. He made Durham come alive. He made the time go so fast as if one is transported into another time.
This tour was fantastic, it was engaging, interesting and we learnt so much!! Peter was such a good tour guide, he was so knowledgeable and friendly - Definitely an activity worth doing if you’re in Durham!! We absolutely loved it!!
This is a must do walking tour of Durham, we had a great guide (a former teacher) who filled us in on the history and ghost stories for this great city!
We stopped off in Durham on way home, while fairly familiar with North East, didn’t know much about Durham. Oh boy has that now changed. Met Peter our guideline the market square for what turned out to be a superb tour of the city and its history, the good the bad and the weird. Expertly told and re counted. Some stand outs for me were saint Cuthbert and his journey and various ‘miracles’ he performed. DUrham prison, not least as it was the location of one of my favourite films McVicar. All in all a brilliant 90 minutes in the company of a brilliant host, thank you Peter. Highly recommended.
Just 2 of us on the tour which made it very conversational and informal. A great selection of stories as we walked around the centre of historic Durham. The 90 minutes went really fast. Highly recommended.
A pleasant walk around a visually impressive city with a knowledgable and entertaining guide. Interesting and insightful, packed with often quirky details.
The guide was very knowledgeable and the history of Durham was amazing. Very enjoyable, definitely recommend
The Dark Durham Tour was really interesting and Peter was entertaining. A great tour - we are local to Durham and we learned lots of things we'd never heard before. Saw Durham in a new light! My 11 and 13 year old enjoyed it to.
Excellent tour. Lots of interesting facts. Lots of history. Don't like the Scot's!!
Lovely walk around Durham with some interesting history. Not too ghoulish which I was pleased about! Atmospheric in the dark and mild drizzle.
Me and my sisters (after meeting up for a family reunion) joined this tour on a Friday night - meeting Peter in the Market Place where our tour started. There were two couples joining us. We really enjoyed walking around Durham and listening to stories and facts - many of which I had never heard before ( grew up in Durham City! ) The walking pace was great - one of us is not keen on walking too fast! it was a cold evening (luckily dry) so we walked and stopped but didn’t get too cold. Peter lead us around a great picturesque route full of information - with a gentle manner and humour- thank you so much 😊 The tour took about an hour and a half. Excellent value for the experience.
Peter is very experienced and the tour is also well structured. I was in town for work and this tour was perfect for me. Not only I’ve learned some “dark” side of Durham history but also some fun stuff. Highly recommended for anyone. Bring a torch for this time of the year will help as it gets quite dark in certain places.
The guide took us on a tour around the city, stopping at historical points of interest. The tour also featured various tales throughout the city's history and some ghost stories. The guide was local so knew a lot of the history and was really entertaining
Really enjoyed the dark tour. Peter was a great guide. Learned a lots about Durham’s history that I never knew despite living in the area as a student.
Lived near Durham all our lives and found the guided tour around the city centre very interesting and informative. Guide very knowledgeable bringing to life the history of this beautiful city of which we’re very proud of . We will definitely be revisiting some of the areas on the tour to explore further.
The guide, was absolutely fantastic. He was very engaging, answered all our questions with great knowledge and humour.I have less mobility and use a walking aide, and he checked in with me often. His background in geography was an added bonus. This is an absolute must when in Durham.
5 of us went along. Family from Belgium & 3 locals Teens to seniors. We all enjoyed it equally! So informative and the sights were lovely Lived local most my life but found out so many new things I’d happily do it again :)
The guide was great, friendly and knowledgeable. I would really recommend doing this to find out about the interesting facts of Durham.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Full of interesting facts and myths about the people that lived and died here. Our guide was superb and clearly knew his stuff making the tour really interesting and engaging. It lasted about one hour 20 mins which was perfect. Would thoroughly recommend if you’re in Durham.
Interesting tour of durham. I have lived there for 4 years and still learnt so much about the area and its history. The guide was really friendly. Overall would recommend.
This was a great way to explore a stunning city with such a historical, dark and lengthy history. The tour guide was super friendly, accommodating and educated on the extensive history of the city, it's surrounding areas and even wider afield. He even answered questions that were completely of topic and casually chatted about his own history, personal experience and hobbies We would highly recommend this to everyone!
A very well informed tour guide and lots of things to see! We really enjoyed the history of the courthouse and the cathedral.
Really interesting tour of the city, went in the winter in the evening which really added to the atmosphere and was a good opportunity to see the city lit up in the dark. Peter had an extensive knowledge of the city and told it well, it was a smaller tour group that night but he was still able to fill up a full 90 minute tour and answer all questions.
This walking tour around Durham was excellent, our guide was very knowledgeable and brought the history of Durham alive for us. The tour lasted 90min starting in the market square and included the cathedral, university and prison. The pace of the tour was easy with only one steep path to negotiate and ending under Elvet bridge meant we were in the middle of town ideal for a bite to eat or a couple of pints.
As a group of friends who regularly go to Durham we were absolutely intrigued by the history and tales our tour guide Peter presented us with. Loads of stories we knew nothing about which made it more interesting. An excellent way of getting to know more about Durhams secret dark past highly recommend the tour and the tour guide Peter
What an excellent tour, Peter was so knowledgeable, answered every one of our questions but not just with facts he also gave us tales that we would never have known if we’d just walked around by ourselves, couldn’t recommend this trip more
Me and my friend really enjoyed this tour - it was just the 2 of us plus the guide so it was very friendly and interactive! He also had a great sense of humour and didn't mind us taking a couple of drinks around with us. Great value for money, very pleased we booked
Wow what a knowledgable and friendly tour guide. A fabulous tour exploring the history of the darker side of Durham. An absolute must do if you are in this historic city. Would have paid more for this tour 👌
