Sadly, a really disappointing experience. We paid over £300 for our room but had to leave after less than three hours because our son unexpectedly needed hospital treatment in Bradford. We didn’t use breakfast or any of the hotel facilities, so given the circumstances I was genuinely surprised by the complete lack of flexibility. I fully understand that hotels have policies, but I would have expected some compassion and at least a partial refund, credit or goodwill gesture. For a hotel charging this level of price, the response felt incredibly rigid and lacking in understanding. It has definitely put me off returning.

Disappointing experience for what should have been a special stay. We booked two nights at The Devonshire Arms specifically as a relaxing break after our wedding. Unfortunately, what should have been a special and stress-free couple of days instead became an added source of stress. We completely understand that things happen and that the spa becoming unavailable may have been outside the hotel’s control. What was disappointing was how the situation was handled. We were contacted by the spa team to cancel our treatnebt appointment, but the hotel did not proactively contact us to explain what had happened or discuss our booking. When we called reception ourselves, we were simply passed back to the spa team, who did not answer despite multiple attempts to reach them. For a hotel that positions itself as a luxury establishment, we expected a much higher standard of communication and customer service — particularly given the circumstances and the importance of our stay, which we had communicated in advance. It wasn’t the fact that the spa had broken that disappointed us; it was the lack of communication, care and ownership from the hotel. We would have expected the hotel to contact us directly, acknowledge the situation and make an effort to help. A real shame, as we had been looking forward to staying here after our wedding.
A very nice location. Arranged prior to visit that my wife has cancer and is a coeliac. I expressly said no special treatment that I just wanted the stay to go smoothly with no upset. We had an upgrade and some chocolates. The food on the brasserie we amazing, top notch.
A quintessential English and traditional country hotel and spa. We loved the location, the food, the service and a comfortable room. The rooms are traditional with a shower above the bath but it was fine for us, we had brought our own USB plug as we suspected it may be needed - it was. We eat in the brasserie - truly delicious! We had a very relaxing massage treatment in the spa and enjoyed the pool and steam room. Exceptional service which was exemplified by Jane’s guided tour of the estate, this was such an unexpected bonus, if you have the time to build this into your schedule, definitely do this! The service throughout our stay has been exceptional, we leave highly relaxed and would love to return. With thanks Ed & Jo
Recently, I had hired out a private space to propose to my partner. As part of our visit we had a private dining experience and an overnight stay. We are both so incredibly thankful for the effort put in by the whole team at the Devonshire Arms, you have all gone above and beyond. We were both so impressed and amazed with how the room had been decorated for the proposal. The staff as a whole have been excellent, it was so lovely speaking with them all. They seemed just as invested in the proposal! No request was too big or too small as you have all been very accommodating. The customer experience was five-star. All of this just added to what was already such a special day for both of us that we will always look back at it with such fondness.
