Amazing little gem of a hotel. Plenty of parking, generous check in times (we were late and it was no problem). Comfy room, super clean, great bed and next level brew treats provided, not just one pack of biscuits but 2 and 3 chocolate eclairs. There was was even a little tuck shop with an honesty box in the lounge. Best of all there's a smart little pool and a sauna with beautiful views over the moors. Absolute bliss to listen to the curlew while the sauna warmed up.
Ideally situated just out of Howarth. Only five minute ride into town. Nobody on reception when we arrived, had to go to the pub next door to get our key. Was shown to room, but no explanation of amenities such as pool. Had to fill in a questionnaire in regards to following morning breakfast (at the pub next door). Make sure you are on time as we were thirty seconds late and after a comment by staff, we felt like we were in their bad books. We were quickly seated for our evening meal, but unfortunately wasn't nothing special. The onion rings were very greasy and didn't finish them as was worried about my cholesterol level shooting up. My steak was nice, but asked for medium, but was actually served well done. The home made chips seemed to be warmed up and very mushy. My wife's salmon was swimming in sauce. It was a Friday night, and was busy, so was not possible to get seated in the bar area for an after meal drink. Our room was perfectly fine for an over night stay but seemed a bit tired and needed a freshen up. Although the bed was comfy and had a good night's sleep. A word of advice is the walls seem very thin. I know this as I needn't had set my alarm as I was abruptly woken by someone next door having bad flatulence that made the walls and windows rattle, sounding like a trumpeting baby elephant. Who ever he/she was I strongly urge them to see a doctor, as it didn't sound normal. Overall it was a pleasant stay, and can't be too critical for the price and location was value for money, but have stayed in better.
Good all round for a non attendance hotel. Rooms clean, service good and the views and the peace and quiet make it. If I had a constructive criticism it would be it needs a few touch ups here and there. Hey, you won't be in your room all day and it doesn't and hasn't affected my stay or my score. Dog & Gun next door is superb, both food wise and beer wise
The room we stayed in was clean however there was a door to an adjacent room and you could hear everything that was said in the room nextdoor room by other guests - I presume they could hear us talking too. Being on the ground floor there was no security locking device on the window to be able to leave the window open for fresh air - this could be a problem in the summer as the room got quite stuffy while we resided there. The bathroom although a good size had a few problems. The cold tap ran hot water, the shower screen could not be opened so this made it tricky for myself (slight disability) to reach the plughole and to run a bath. No grab handles to get in or out of the bath. Lots of mouldy mildew along the windows, window blind, sink and a fitting in the roof. The pool was a bonus for my husband who used it several times during our 2 night stay. The food at night in the pub nextdoor couldn't be faulted however the breakfast although it had a good choice had been kept under a heat lamp and came out lukewarm with only the egg being hot. The staff were very friendly and we couldn't fault them.
