Private Walking Guided Tour Of Historic Bayeux English Or French

We had an amazing private tour of Bayeux with Marie! She kindly met us at our hotel and led us on a fascinating historical tour of Bayeux. It was great to get some context about the beautiful historic buildings and we were also able to see the inside of the Notre-Dame de Bayeux. Marie was full of knowledge! We weren’t able to make the timing of the group tour so opted for an afternoon private tour and the price was very reasonable for a 2 hour experience. Would not hesitate to book again. Do it, do it, do it!

My father, 20-something son, and I went on the Bayeux history walking tour with "Green Hat Lady" Marie-Noëlle as our guide. We were in Bayeux the day prior to going on a full day D-Day tour and took advantage of an early train from Paris in order to meet up for the tour at 3 p.m. It was well worth it. Bayeux has a rich history, spanning more than 1000 years and involving so many familiar names from history -- French, English, and Viking. It was fascinating, we learned and saw many things we definitely would not have on our own. I highly recommend this tour -- and you will want to make a reservation well in advance to be sure you can be on it.

This was the perfect introduction to Bayeu. Cristele was a lively and friendly guide who spoke perfect English and also seemed to know half the people in town. Highly recommend!

We took this tour on our 4th day in Bayeux. So we had seen the city but not understood the historical significance of the city. Christele changed that for us. She is a charming and knowledgeable guide. Not only was she great at the history but she provided insights through the eyes of an art historian. She took us through history from the Middle Ages to today inside the very small area of Bayeux. Because of the rain we opted not venture out to the British cemetery but she described why that area is of importance to the people here (the liberation and De Gaulle). It's good to know how the future is molded by the past. Unfortunately the Tapestry museum had just closed for a 2 year period to allow for a new building to be constructed. So we had a full tour of the cathedral. Private tours are really the better option if you want to know what you are seeing. Thank you, Christele.

Great tour of Bayeux, friendly guide. Particularly interested in the history of the Cathedral . Only minor comment, we would as been as happy to pay same for a slightly shorter tour. 2hrs was rather too long.

Excellent tour, I would highly recommend. The tour was informative and interesting, giving a brilliant historical account of Bayeux while walking around the beautiful town & looking at different areas, buildings & squares of historical interest. Christèle was a great and friendly guide who made the tour very engaging with the use of pictures from her folder to further explain details when needed. I hadn't realised I had booked a one to one tour, however it was a great experience. We finished by visiting a really lovely & unusual pink cafe near the cathedral, Les Volets Roses. Christele Tait was an awesome tour guide, we thoroughly enjoyed our two hour tour. She was loud enough for us to hear and understand as we were walking in 50 mile an hour wind. She was very conscientious of our comfort level and constantly receive all of the stories together, and did it great summary at the end. Highly recommend

Christele is beyond amazing! As a 60-something female traveling solo, she went above and beyond to introduce me to Bayeux. Her storytelling ability, her recaps weaving the collective history together, and her entertaining sense of humor kept me hanging on her every word. By far, this was the best tour I have ever taken as a solo traveler--highly, highly recommend!

Our guide was very knowledgeable. It was difficult to imagine life from the 900s to the 1400s. Yes, we are amazed by the age of buildings, but what was life like for the people of such a village? Also, making it more relatable to tourists in 2024, focus on the past 2-3 centuries rather than 1000 years ago. How about some stories of the people?

We had an excellent experience on our private walking tour with Christele. She was so knowledgeable about Bayeux and shared so much information with us. It was the day before the 80th anniversary of D-day so there were some obstacles in town, but Christele took the time to find ways around and still give us a wonderful tour. She even finagled our way into a private manor where she knew the caretakers and was able to show us the beautiful garden and a portion of the residence. It was such a treat. My sister and I booked a private tour with the wonderful Christèle for the 2nd March 2023. We were met with smiles and a warm welcome. The whole experience was so enjoyable and Christèle's knowledge was fantastic. It was lovely to see her greeting other local people throughout the morning, at one point she said hello to a lady who then opened up her home (it was an historic building) so we could see the inner courtyard. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt relaxed, looked after and educated. We were a family group of six (younger couple and both sets of parents) visiting Normandy and had signed up for a private tour of Bayeux with Discovery Walks. Our guide was Christele who was wonderful--full of knowledge and fun stories and very humorous and pleasant also. We did quite a bit of walking and covered much of the town. All of us are interested in history, so it was a great fit for us. I would recommend Discovery Walks very highly! And Bayeux was a fascinating place to do a walking tour!
