We are 6 adults in our 70's, and chose a bucket-list private tour not knowing what to expect. We booked directly on the Gold Beach website and the experience was positive. Lucas met us promptly at our rented house each morning for 2 days of tours and a third day to Mont St, Michel. His out-going personality put us all at ease immediately and he soon felt like part of the group (by the end of the third day he even had a touch of southern accent)! Being from the area his knowledge and passion for the subject matter made the trip extremely interesting. He was very good at keeping us ahead of much of the crowd and showed us sights off the beaten path that we had never imagined. Every request was respected, and every question was answered (or if he did not know the answer he did not try to BS his way through it). His presentations at each stop were easy to follow and he was able to relate the facts about the Battle of Normandy to all of us even though we had different levels of education on the subject. If Lucas is indicative of all the guides at Gold Beach then why go anywhere else?

Our guide, Adrian was absolutely great!! The day tour was amazing! We wished we could’ve stayed another day. Adrian’s enthusiasm and knowledge of DDay was impressive. We really enjoyed the tour and learned a lot!
Adrian, our guide was wonderful. His knowledge and enthusiasm were superb. We saw so much and with his explanations and context it was very meaningful to us.
Our guide, Adrian, was an excellent guide and driver. He was very knowledgeable and shared insightful information. We appreciate his professionalism. Highly recommend.
Kate was a wonderful guide- so knowledgeable about WWII history in the area! She knew facts and dates and places, but seasoned it with personal, true stories of people who lived in Normandy at that time. At one point she had us in tears. We enjoyed our day immensely and would highly recommend a guided day with Kate.
Amandine was amazing! So knowledgeable about the area, answered all our questions, was a safe driver. She even knew the area where our father/grandfather landed on Utah Beach. Can’t recommend this tour enough!
We had an excellent experience with Arthur, a truly top notch guide. We were picked us up at our hotel outside of town in a new very comfortable car. Arthur was very knowledgeable and engaging. He had wealth of interesting details about the battle of Normandy and Allied invasion. And we enjoyed interacting with him. He took us to great spots that weren’t crowded but had incredible views of the beaches. Definitely recommend GoldBeachCompany and Arthur!
We had an incredible experience and tour of the sites in Normandy. Our guide Eliza was exceptionally knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We had such a memorable day I highly recommend
We did a 2 day private tour with Gold Beach company. The tour included Utah and Omaha beaches on day 1, as well as the american cemetary, Sainte-Mere-Eglise and Pointe-du-Hoc. The second day included Gold and Juno beaches, Batterie de Longes-sur-Mer, and lunch in Arromanches-les-Bains. The second day also included a Calvados tasting which we requested. Each day included a trip to one of the many museums in the area, and we were able to choose the museums which interested us most. Our guide was Adrien, and he was great!! He was very knowledgeable about the whole area, and was easily able to customize the trip to our preferences. Also, Gold Beach company was very responsive to my questions before the trip. They were very easy to work with. I highly recommend Gold Beach Company, and Adrien.
Great visit to all of the ww2 sites in Normandy. Kate was tremendous. She is knowledgeable and passionate. This was my 3rd time touring with her and she was as enthusiastic as the first time I toured with her
Eric was great! My 10 year old daughter loved it. I wish we had a second day to visit the Canadian and British landing beaches.
Our family's (me and my adult children) tour with Alex was the highlight of our two week trip to England and France. We booked the visit to Normandy to visit the grave of our first cousin (once, twice removed) who is buried there. I let Alex know in advance our cousin's name and expected him to let the cemetery know we were coming. He went above and beyond. He researched our cousin's service record and let us know that he did not actually die while parachuting out of a plane but that his plane, which was carrying munitions as well as paratroopers, was shot down over Magneville, a French village many miles away from its target. He took us to that site where we learned that there is a monument to the men who died in that crash. All the names of the soldiers are listed; it was so moving to see our cousin's name listed and visit this site in (literally) the middle of nowhere where he was first buried. Alex also offered to stop at a German cemetery, as it was on the way to Normandy, and the contrast between that and the American cemetery was stark. Alex has a wealth of knowledge about D-day and the WWII in general that he clearly enjoys sharing. He has a quick wit and we developed a fun rapport with him during our tour. Other family members of mine have hired guides and made the pilgrimage to Normandy to visit our cousin's grave but no other tour guide took the time to do the research and none of my other family members were able to visit the monument in Magneville because we did not know it was there. I highly recommend Alex fora personalized tour. Thank you Alex!
Our guide Thomas is both a Historian and Archaeologist. Having grown up in the region, he has the perfect background for a tour guide. He enthusiasticly shares his knowledge of the D Day invasion with both a historical perspective as well as with anecdotes he has gathered from returning veterans. His day tour of the American beaches includes all of the key locations. And, if you want to visit a specific site, he will take you there as well.
We could not have asked for a better guide to show us around. Victor was friendly, funny and extremely knowledgeable. We learned so much. We had an amazing day and are so thankful he was our guide. Book this tour you will not be disappointed.
We had an amazing day! Our tour guide Amandine was so knowledgeable and had so much passion for the history of D-Day. She had many interesting facts. My father landed on the Omaha beaches on the second day of the invasion. She made sure we went to Omaha beach! Very emotional to retrace the steps of my father. We also went to the American Cemetery. Amandine told us exactly where to stand during the end of the day taps ceremony. We had other folks on our tour and it was so fun chatting with them during lunch and throughout the day, great group!
We were privileged to have Matt as our guide for two full days touring the American landings in Normandy. He has an in-depth knowledge that separates the facts from the Hollywood fiction. You can tell this is very personal for him since his grandfather landed here as part of the British forces. It isn’t just the historical facts that make this tour exceptional, it is the personal stories he shares. He goes above and beyond. His work to find the remains of a GI buried in a mass grave with Germans and return them to the soldier’s family so he could be interred in the American Cemetery was phenomenal. We will be back to tour the British and Canadian landings and Matt will be our guide!
Excellent trip Lucas ran in a knowledgeable, efficient and accommodating way. His English was perfect. He took time to gauge what we were interested in and when we said, the individuals stories bring the history alive, he creatively tailored the trip to small sites he said he often didn’t go to but this led to a fascinating trip. He did the headline sites too. Unhurried, keen to answer detailed history questions, we had an age range of 72 to 22 and all loved the day. I would strongly recommend this tour and if fortunate enough, Lucas as the guide.
My entire life I have wanted to come study in the footsteps that my Grandfather took in Normandy. I was extremely close to him and this was a very personal experience. No ordinary guide would do. I have a B.A. in Military history which set the standards high. To make things even more difficult, I needed to see where the 90th Division fought which is not as nearly publicized as other units. When we arrived in Normandy Matt had requested a brief ice breaker in the evening before we got together the next day. Matt arrived and immediately pulled out a photo of my Granddad and said “Is this Seth?”. I couldn’t believe it! It was a photo even I had never seen. He had spent much time studying and preparing for us. I immediately knew we had the right man! Matt took us to the main attractions as expected yet went above and beyond taking us to all the off the beaten path locations making my personal trip more than I could have ever asked for!
Igor Was a real professional and a fountain of knowledge. We were two families with 14 teenagers and he customized the tour and made it very real for them. Excellent experience. Thank you, Igor!
Amazing tour! Our guide, Matt was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was surreal to stand and see the places in so many movies and history documentaries. This should be on your bucket list.
Overwhelming experience! Olivier gave us the best day! Engaging, extremely knowledgeable, and flexible; the tour with him will exceed expectations. Highly recommend.
Oh my goodness! I just looked at my bookings on my current trip and saw I failed to leave a review for this tour. We were very impressed with the historical knowledge that was given to us as we traveled throughout the area. Our guide was very thoughtful and made every effort to take us to the sites that mattered most to us. In addition, we were taken to a lovely restaurant for a much needed break and sustenance! Following our last stop and before being taken to the train station, he was kind enough to take us to a grocery store so we could buy provisions for our long train ride back to Paris. Best picnic in a long time!
We had a wonderful 8 hour tour with John taking in all the D Day sights. He was extremely knowledgeable about the activities of the WWII that surrounded the landing at Normandy, both on the beaches and the surrounding countryside. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting an account of what happened during this amazing time in history!!
This tour was everything I hoped for and more. Eric, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. He was attentive and accommodating. Eric spent extra time at Omaha Beach because that’s where my Dad landed on June 6, 1944 with “The Big Red One” and he knew it was important to me. He showed me in detail where my Dad landed and the route he took to the church where they set up camp. He highlighted a map of my Dad’s journey for me to see and keep. Eric also brought a humanness to the stories he told about all the different types of landings in the invasion and to the different sides of the war. I would highly recommend this tour!
Arthur, our guide, was perfect! Knowledgeable and delightful. It was exactly what we were looking for! His passion for history added to his presentation. He was personable and we felt so comfortable asking anything! We wanted to specifically go to the area of the beach where my husbands father had been on an LCI and he took us exactly there!
Katell was an absolutely amazing guide. Our group included a history major and multiple people with a lot of historical knowledge. She was so informative and ready to answer all the questions we had. I'm so glad Katell was our guide!
We had a two-day private tour with Alex. Thorough, thoughtful, detailed and enlightening visits and insights to Juno, Omaha and Gold beach invasions. My only regret is that we didn't have longer. We are big fans of one-on-one tours and Alex was as good as one can get. Simply terrific two days! Thank you, Alex and Gold Beach Company.
Great and interesting tour - wonderful guide who took us to places we would not have known to go on our own. Highly recommended.
Alex was a wonderful tour guide! He researched where we wanted to go since we had a person in our group whose Dad had parachuted in on D-Day. He was thorough, funny, and a wealth of knowledge. We spent two days with him and he picked out great lunch spots! I highly recommend him!
The best thing about our vacation to France was our private D-Day tour with the most knowledgeable tour guide Matt from Gold Beach Company. We were promptly picked up at our hotel in Bayeux. Matt's knowledge was impressive! Together we retraced the route that our Dad traveled after landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day with the 29th Division 115th regiment. Matt's research yielded some specific memorial markers including the 29th Division Monument & Memorial Garden at Le Pont de la Pierre as well as a crossroads war memorial for the 29th Infantry Division in Le Carrefour des Vignes aux Gendres. It was a humbling day and memorable experience thanks to Matt who is so personable and gracious. Ask for Matt to be your tour guide -- his knowledge is outstanding!
Our guide, Eric, was a pleasant host and expert guide. We really got the most out of our day. My son is a military history enthusiast and this was the highlight of the trip for him. Highly recommend!
Our guide (Sofie) was very friendly, informed, and helpful. The entire family enjoyed the professional and interesting tour.
We had an outstanding day with Arnaud. He is not only extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of D-Day but also adds other aspects of the history of the Normandy region as well. He was very receptive to our desire to change the standard tour format to accommodate our desires for the day. We could not have asked for a better guide. We highly recommend him for anyone considering a D-Day tour.
We booked a private all day tour with Matt that traveled the route our Dad did for D-Day . He was with the 29th Division 115th regiment , Co E . He landed in 2nd wave of Omaha Beach. Knowing that Matt researched information with the help of Joseph Balkowski of places to visit. We had a memorable experience, perfect in every way. I highly recommend him & this Co for your tour needs.
cannot recommend Gold Beach tour company enough. My family went on a private tour with Matt (June 2023) and had the best time. Matt conversed with us ahead of time in order to research and prepare to take us to specific sites that my grandfather's unit, 29th infantry went through. He found memorials and sites specific to places my grandfather marched through, had written home or talked about from the war. We saw everything we hoped to and more. Matt took us to a bar on Utah beach and knew to tell the owner that we had family on the beach, enabling us to write his name and unit on the wall. It was such a special touch for us. Matt was kind, patient, knowledgeable and very professional. We enjoyed getting to know him and learning from him throughout our visit. 770 / 100 minimum
Arthur was an exceptional guide and provided us with a rewarding and personalized experience. Our tour was on June 6, the busiest day to visit, but he knew how to avoid the crowds without missing any of the major sites. He was knowledgeable and passionate about WW2 history and showed us many lesser known sites with fascinating scenery and artifacts. Highly recommended
Very interesting and our guide was amazing. Very informative and changed my perspective on a lot of what happened.
Tour guide, Eric, spoke excellent English and French. He grew up in Canada. Was extremely knowledgeable and focused on army and airborne strategy. He shared a lot of personal stories about soldiers and their experiences. Fascinating. Highly recommend!
Jean-Charles was expert, engaging, and adaptable to some changes we had to make. We were with our family, including 18 and 21 year olds. They loved it and it’s in part because of him.
This tour was absolutely amazing, and made so by our tour guide. She was so well-educated on the history of the areas we visited on and around the Normandy landing beaches. She made everything interesting and the history came alive for us. The countryside was beautiful and flowering in May so it was a wonderful time to visit even though we had to dodge raindrops (rainy season). We initially were going to visit on our own without a tour guide but that would have been a big mistake. We would have missed so many stories and it would not have been nearly as meaningful. The money was well worth it. I would highly recommend Gold Company and would use them again in a heartbeat.
Julie is an amazing guide! Her knowledge combined with her natural story telling ability and passion created the perfect day for my Dad's trip to the WWII sites where his father and uncle served. Julie is sensitive to the goals of her participants, extremely witty and sensitive. (She shed a few tears with my Dad - but don't tell her we saw her.) She is sooooo good we asked for a second day before we even stopped for lunch. We highly recemmend this tour and encourage you to book with Julie.
Eric was our guide. He was very knowledgeable and had good stories about the Normandy history. The trip was educational, fun and very entertaining. Our 11 year old son had a great time as well.
Julie was the best tour guide we have ever experienced. Extremely informed, expressive and humorous. If you take this tour, which we highly recommend, make sure to ask for Julie. Thank you!
We had an outstanding private tour with Thomas. His passion and knowledge of WWII in general and of the sites we saw was far beyond our expectations. He was kind and patient with our questions. He took us off the beaten path to see some unique bunkers that were not on the main tourist sites. He kept our 3 teenage daughters engaged with his props and pictures and stories about specific soldiers. I truly recommend a private tour with this company and with Thomas if you are able to book with him. It was a highlight of our trip and well worth the money.
We were so fortunate to have Kate as our guide for two days. Her knowledge and experience made our trip personalized and comprehensive. She prepares materials and maps to complement her tours and has an extensive knowledge of Normandy and DDay. We felt encouraged to ask questions and learned so much. She paced each day to our interested and energy level. We relied on her knowledge and language skills to assist at pharmacies or pop into a clothing store. Excellent guide in every way.
Highly recommend. Information and interesting details. Very glad we did this (Tour Guide was Matt). He is passionate about the subject. A fountain of knowledge- learned many new things. Can’t recommend it highly enough!
We had a superb tour with our guide Elizabeth. She insured we were able to see the places we wanted to go. Her extensive knowledge of the Normandy invasion was impressive and added to the overall excellent experience. Cannot say enough about what a great guide she is and how she made the day so memorable.
Kate was with us for 5 days and she treated us like family! It couldn't have been any better. I was overwhelmed by the extent of her knowledge and it was very moving to hear about her personal experiences growing up in the Normandy area and her experiences with her Dad and Grandfather. And the extra steps she took to make our trip memorable, like planning to end one of our days at the American cemetery to watch the retiring of the colors and hear taps played, just added to our experience. I would highly recommend Kate for anyone that wants a truly memorable and moving experience visiting this important part of our history. Thank you so much Kate!!
We just returned to Ohio, after spending an amazing 5 days with our tour guide Kate. She was absolutely delightful. Her knowledge of the historical events, made the tour very educational and memorable. If visiting the Normandy region, I would highly recommend this tour guide.
Our tour guide, Kate, was phenomenal. Her wealth of knowledge on the Normandy invasion, historical context, and welcoming personality made our experience both educational and memorable. We highly recommend the company and our wonderful guide.
