After driving about an hour and a half (times depends on your hotel location). During this first stage, I will talk to you about the succession of events which led France to be occupied by the Nazis in 1940. We will then talk about the planning and preparation operations for the landing of June 6, 1944 and finally discuss the exploits of the 225 men of Colonel Rudder's second ranger battalion.
We will stop in the heart of Omaha Beach in Saint-Laurent sur mer, where you can take some photos and I will suggest some restaurants so you can have a quick lunch before heading to our next stop.
The American cemetery of Colleville sur mer is the most visited site on the landing beaches. We will stop to see, if you wish, a short film which pays tribute to some soldiers who died in combat during the Battle of Normandy. It will also be possible at this location to visit a small commemorative museum. We will then walk with respect among the 9387 tombs of the heroes who died to liberate Europe.
At Longues-sur-Mer we can stop to see the casmates which still host the 155 mm cannons forming part of the famous Atlantic Wall installed in Europe by the Nazis from 1942.
We will stop at Arromanches les Bains to see the remains of the artificial port installed by the allies in the first days of the assault. Here again I will explain to you the planning and installation of this gigantic site necessary for supplying the Allied army.
If you wish, we will return to your hotel along the landing beaches to the eastern sector of the assault and we will thus be able to cross the Benouville bridge renamed Pegasus bridge in honor of a commando of the sixth airborne British division who heroically seized the site on the night of June 5 to 6, 1944. We will then drive back to your hotel.

Gilles and his team were absolutely amazing!!!! We had 8 people total and two very comfortable, clean, well stocked cars (food and beverages), that made our trip from the cruise port to Normandy very relaxing. Along the way, Gilles told us about the history leading up to the Normandy invasion which was so very informative, even as a HS History teacher myself! The other car was able to hear all the info as well due to his communication set up…it was wonderful!!! We stopped at the Point du Hoc first and received his guided tour along the way! After that, he arranged lunch for our group that was super delicious! Next stop was Omaha Beach, then the cemetery, the Mulberry Harbors and the Atlantic Wall, finishing off with the gun emplacements!!!! It was absolutely an amazing day!!!! I can’t tell you how highly I recommend this tour!!!! All 8 people in our group agreed that this was their favorite tour on our 2 week British Isle cruise!!!
Gilles is amazing. What a great person! Our train trip to Caen had an unexpected incident on the track which caused us to have to go back to LeHavre. He drove there and picked us up. He brought croissant for the whole family. He had a smile on his face and truly enjoyed the day with us. Very accommodating, very friendly. I would not tour with anyone else after this! Trusted with my whole family including a 10 year old and he did not disappoint! Cannot say enough nice things about the tour and how informative and fun it was. I got to go inside a German Gun emplacement and stand on the actual beach where it happened and look toward the shore. Bucket list items get checked off here. Life changing! Merci Gilles!

This private tour was spectacular, Gilles was very knowledgeable and eager to share history and anecdotes of the landing circumstances and events. He was very accommodating to your needs and desires and at the end of the your we had not only visited the historic sites but had enriched or knowledge, gained respect and honored the braves that have their lives for liberty. We were a group of friends staying in different hotels and Gilles could arrange to pick us up in each of our locations. During the your he had excellent recommendations for a lunch stop at a historic site.
Giles was a wreath of knowledge of the history of the area. We learned so much and had time to really cover the area. He took the time to reserve a table for us to have a very good French lunch. We wanted to see The Beaches of Normandy and Giles covered everything so well. It was a delightful excursion.

Gilles was amazing for our tour of the landing beaches! His communication was great both beforehand and in person (he has a really engaging personality). Gilles has extensive knowledge about the area and it's history and adapted this to us and what we were interested in. He followed our pace and was so intuitive with giving us time on our own at certain points and then guiding us during others. His van is luxurious and the choice of snacks and drinks were really appreciated. Wish we could have had more tours with him!

This tour was fabulous! Giles was a wonderful and thoughtful tour guide and took extra care to understanding what sites were most important to us. As an American traveler- we chose a private tour as we wanted to spend extra time seeing where our relatives landed and do our best to understand the impact D Day had on ending WW2. Gilles was very thoughtful and gracious on allowing time to take in the beaches and cemetery- and also gave us some insight from the local French people on DDay. Gilles was an excellent tour guide for our girls trip to France. He customized the tour throughout Normandy to our desires. We were two couples staying in Honfleur two days prior to embarking on a cruise out of LeHavre. We contacted Gilles months in advance and never had a worry that our trip to Normany would fall through. He picked us up at our VRBO apartment in a very clean Mercedes van complete with water and great snacks. Gilles was so knowledgeable about the entire area from Honfleur to the Normandy points of interest. He gave us some time to explore the beaches and American Cemetery on our own. I would highly recommend him. Additionally, we needed transportation to the cruise port the next day and he contacted a driver friend of his to get us to the port. Impossible to overstate what a magnificent guide is Gilles Denis. We are two couples arriving Honfleur by cruise ship, and engaged Gilles for a full day guided tour. Every single aspect, from initial booking to scheduling communication to itinerary planning could not have been better. Gilles picked us up at the port, explained the history of the war and post war era, took us to major and minor battle sites, the incredibly moving American Cemetery, small villages, etc. My advice: If perchance Gilles is not available on your first choice day to tour, change your date! Giles was a pleasure to be with. He went over and above to make us comfortable throughout the full one-day tour and the Mercedes van we toured in was extremely spacious, comfortable and clean. His knowledge of thr Normandy area was outstanding, He gave a great recount and added perspective of the events as they would have happened on June 6th, the day of the Normandy invasion. I wouldn't recommend anyone else.
We had a wonderful tour with Gilles. He was so informative and could not have seen so much in one day without him. As far as history goes, everyone should take this tour and realize the sacrifices from that day. If we were not successful, the world would not be like it is today. This was by far out best experience in France. We've been to Normandy once before and used another tour comoany and it was horrible. This tour however was on a whole other level. Gilles is amazing. Super nice, knowledgeable, funny, and so easy to get along with. My wife is Mexican and doesn't speak great English, no problem, Gilles speaks Spanish also. We started with the landing beaches tour and wound up spending 3 days with Gilles. He picked us up in Paris. His van is spotless and stocked with snacks and beverages. His driving was super smooth. His knowledge of the area is incredible. I thought I was fairly knowledgeable about the war and the history. Nope, Gilles is like a college professor. He explained so much and patiently answered all of our questions. I feel like he did a great job customizing the tour to our likes and interests. He took us to Deauville/Trouville, Honfleur, and Rouen. It was an amazing 3 days. There is so much history in the area and thanks Gilles we got to experience it a way like never before.
