With this admission ticket, relive the Battle of Normandy through the 20 minutes' long film. You will watch the film on the Circular Cinema's 9 screens and in High Definition for a completely immersive experience. The images projected on nine screens stem from British, Canadian, German, American and French archives. On both sides of the Channel, one was preparing for this long-awaited moment. Then, in spite of unfavourable weather conditions, came the morning of June 6, 1944, the first step towards the liberation of Western Europe. From the landings on the 5 beaches of the Manche and Calvados departments to the tragic bombing of Le Havre on September 12, the Battle of Normandy lasted 100 days. Experience 20 minutes of pure historical intensity!

Located at top of hill. great views down to ocean and beach. Lots of original pictures taken from D-Day.
We had planned in spending an hour or two here before moving on, but in the end we spent the best part of a full day in the memorial. The exhibitions are thoughtfully and respectfully displayed with a great attention to detail. We also enjoyed the Cold War exhibition and other temporary photography exhibitions. We stayed so long we ended up having lunch there, which was very pleasant and excellent value for money too. Highly recommend!
Interesting insights. The video clips and brief recollections from veterans really bring it to life. Even more impressive are the beautiful views of the bay from the height which allows you to reimagine the whole scene. The monuments here are the real stars of the show. Visually stunning.
We caught a Public bus out from Caen where we were staying. The Office de Tourisme in Caen is outstanding. Our School French is hideous sadly but all Staff went to great efforts to provide us with Bus info. Easy trips out and back. The Caen Memorial building is modern, spacious and facilities and Staff excellent. The various Halls and Theatres easily accessed and crowds flowed well. It was extremely well done and evocative of the timeline and horror. The World looked on and ignored the visible signs of madness for years. As relevant today as ever. The separate Elevator access to a Bunker was well done too. Lovely garden area. The Gift Shop had a huge Book Store stocked with relevant material. Very upmarket Restaurant. In 2023 we had managed to visit the D Day Beaches whilst staying in beautiful Bayeux but think Caen might be an easier town to Hub in actually for access to all the beaches and other memorials and museums.
Interactive, entertaining presentation of the eras. At times graphic, a bit sad and graphic, and others, a bit too light hearted, in my opinion.
What a waste of an opportunity. Overlooking the beach that saw the Mulberry B harbour built, the film is about the first 100 days after D-Day. A subject that is covered in other locations, and much better. Not a mention of the harbours. Yet this location is all about the harbours. Recommend - don’t waste your money. Unless they change the film. And be careful of the climb to the cinema, it’s very steep and punishing.
We have visited this cinema 5 times in the last 15 years or so, each time with different family members and friends. Originally, the film was effective and emotive. It showed the horrors of war, the noise of war, the destruction, the booming guns of the boats shelling the batteries prior to the invasion. It showed how it was during the landings and how it is today. Veterans talked of their experiences. "Some people can't imagine the horrors that took place here. Others, can't forget" I looked forward to new visitors being impressed with it, but what did I get? A new film, no booming guns, no film of before and today, a basic history lesson which is better told at other venues throughout Normandie. It finishes with some upbeat, Elvis style song that is so disrespectful of the victims of war it has been put together by someone who has no emotional attachment to the events of the landings.. Please can you throw out this latest travesty, this amateur clap trap? Just admit what a huge error of judgement you have made and reinstate the emotive and respectful film of years gone by. A complete waste of time and money.
On a trip to pay homage to the allied troops that participated in the D Day landings. They don't make em like that any more! The 360 cinema at Arromanches was great value for money and educational.
If you you want to know about the Mulberry Harbour and Normandy Landings look elsewhere. I assume the sadly skewed tripe we had to stand and endure for 25mins was assembled by some sixth formers on day release. This expensive installation is located at the actual site of the extraordinary Mulberry Harbour, arguably one of the most important engineering feats of the 20th Century, however you will not learn who designed it, how it actually got there or see much of the remaining infrastructure outside in use - in fact the British, apart from a minuscule quote from Churchill are hardly represented at all, possibly they were there but really didn’t do a lot (apart from design, build, transport snd erect the most important infrastructure of D-Day, securing the landings in the terrible storms that shortly ensued) - More time is spent with footage of sobbing French women who lost homes and loved ones in the distraction raids that preceded the invasion - massively outnumbered by the young blood of foreign allies who were to liberate them. The credits are played out for some bizarre reasons to an American Deep South black blues track which would have been unknown to all but the most avant guarde of the allied services. An expensive and uninformed load of tripe that could - and should be so much more. I suggest they employ adults and re-do the whole thing as it’s not worth a fraction of the E7.00 entrance fee.
Reasonably priced and regular showings of the film. We loved the little museum before the cinema - it went through the D-Day landings and liberation of Normandy in a chronological way - so very helpful for the beginning of our visit. The film itself was very clever - showed lots of images and made you feel part of it. I just wish there had been a bit more dialogue to go with it - more veterans speaking about there experiences would have made it even more meaningful.
This was one of the highlights of my trip. I added it last-minute, not knowing how incredible it would be. The park around it had one of my favorite monuments and the view of the remnants of the harbor were worth the visit all on its own. But the cinema itself is almost indescribable. I wanted to go back to watch the film over and over - I’ve done a lot of reading of the history and seen a lot of footage but this felt almost immersive. I would highly recommend to anyone going to the area.
Must be my 10th plus visit over the years. New film this year with very different & interesting ending. (No spoilers) Be aware if you are taking younger folks in there sre scenes that may upset. As well as very loud munition explosions.
As a United States Marine, this hollowed ground is on the bucket list of to do's if you can. The Sacrifice and Valor of all that are interred here is a testament and validation of the effort to make the world a safer, more inclusive , and totalitarian free world. This was the first thing we did on our tour of Normandy beaches and we really enjoyed it. It was a good introduction and I think did a nice job of not glorifying war. War is a last resort and nasty business for everyone, including the victors.
Really great intro to the d-day landings. Plenty of subtitles for most speakers. Could go many times and see different and more bits as the screens are all around showing different stories.
First of all I say possibly not for kids because of how much reading their is. I'm not against that myself but I feel kids may get bored and rush around. The museum at the entrance isn't well thought out as as soon as you enter the turnstiles you're at the start of a history wall with lots of writing about the timeline of how the second world war came about. The artifacts on display were brilliant and I really enjoyed looking around these. Lots of information for every single piece. There are short films in places and areas to have a sit down along with some interactive bits too. The bunker I found a bit disappointing personally but the gardens were very impressive. I really enjoyed the food. We went to the restaurant around by the cinema area and had the burgers. Some of the best food I've had at a visitor attraction
This has to be one of the best museums that I have been to that tells the military history of the area during WW2, there is a brief overview of WW1 With several cinemas along with a 360 degree visual experience is a must see for anyone interested in history. There is a good display of artifacts including a Mig jet in the lower area of the museum, there was a tank and rocket launcher but on the day I visited they we unable to be viewed. To the side of the building is a lift that takes you to the WW2 bunker giving you an explanation for its use. We were there for over 5 hours and I thought it was good value for money. They is a restaurant and extensive book shop selling books pertaining to the Second World War.
It was exactly what I expected, but nothing more than that. Actually, a lot of these historic images come back in about all the musea in this region... Still worthwile to see.
Big museum that covers the road to WW2, WW2, the Normandy landings, the Cold War, and Berlin during the Cold War. You can al sado visit the underground German bunker on which the museum is built. Too much to take in all in one visit. Also, lots of reading in small font size. On the other hand: good information, good overview of 20th century history. We had a combi-ticket with the 360cinema Arromanches and La Cite de la Mer for €124 pp in stead of €137, which is valid until December and allows you to enter the museum several times. And you can use the priority queue😉 My teenage boys as well as my husband and I (History teacher😉) enjoyed the museum!
If you want to only see one 'WW2' battle film; go to this one. Having been numerous times with school parties, it is a different view every time now I go. You can spend your time watching just a few screens, or rotate your head and watch all around. Some new sequences inserted since my last viewing - but still the story remains the same. Peace to all please.
An outstanding show giving a very sensory experience of the Battle of Normandy. Sculptures outside are an extremely moving depiction of the D-Day landings.
It was a blustery day but well worth the visit, the 360o screen had an incredible effect and the images were breathtaking. It was fantastic, and worth the 4E to park in the lot rather than up the hill on the side of the road
Although I was fortunate enough to have been born 10 years after those dark moments of history, the rest of the family and I were highly impacted by this tremendous cinematic experience. An absolute must for anyone even remotely interested in mid 20th century history and the changes the Battle of Normandy brought about to help end the war. The only downside is inadequate and expensive EUR 7 parking and Gendarmerie that appear to pick on especially foreigners trying to park off road whilst ignoring others - be warned!
No traffic control. Took taxi from Bayeux to Arromaches. Traffic backed up 2-3 miles from dirt parking lot. Took over an hour to get to cinema. Movie is only 20 min and not a methodically narrative. Film restoration amazing.
Outsanding show ! Very good animation and film. Superbe store at the way out. Not too long, not too short, right timing.
You're up close and personal with the horrors of war and the sounds make it pretty real too. Hang on to the leaning bar as you watch the continuous series of events that was D- Day and the start of the delivery of peace. There are some graphic pics of dead bodies so hold onto the kids. Good value and well put together. Take the free bus right outside the door, to Omaha beach and its remnants of war just lying there.
Impressive film, I would definitely go for the climb up.
Beautiful experience in a unique place. So many photos, so many videos. You have to come to appreciate these powerful and so important moments.
4 hours of visit. Memorial very well staged a must-do to fully understand this part of our history that must not be forgotten
A superb experience We enjoyed the city and local specialties Calvados.
Place full of emotions that traces the genesis and the Second World War. To do absolutely even and especially with children not to forget
The second day of our Normandy trip we visited the Mémorial de Caen, I was here in 1994, and my memory of how they were was not true at all. The museum is big and nice and is itself a monument, but the contents of the large building are mostly information to read about different stages before and during the war. There is not much material or things to look at, so if you already know the history and / or no desire to read about it again, you can skip this, there is much better
Very nice with real images.maybe even with Italian subtitles was not bad.o an audio guide
Visit of the memorial completed by the very exciting circular cinema session. Memorial that tells very well the Normandy landings and that does not leave you indifferent. Well maintained site with breathtaking pieces of history for some. Shivers and emotions guaranteed in tribute to these men sacrificed for the liberation of France.
Museum really amazing. The Caen Memorial is one of the most beautiful we have visited. Immersion in the Second World War is total, we allow ourselves to be completely transported by the richness of the contents and the emotion that emerges from it. We also enjoyed the retro space, which brings an original touch to the whole. The entrance fee is largely justified. The gardens are superb and perfectly maintained. I recommend 10,000%! Little clarification: the visit can be a little long with young children, to be expected according to their age and patience.
Very disappointing. No comment. Just a succession of small movies and pictures. No emotion can be felt considering the way this film is made. I regret my 6 € not counting the 2.50 €/ hour for parking. A real scam
Great exhibition organization thanks to which you can walk during the worst European darkness walking on the rubble of our peoples
Passionate about Things to do around the landing, we were very disappointed by this short projection which brings nothing new. The most expensive movie screening ever.
Suggestive, nice review of history, maybe a bit expensive the entrance fee despite the Family plan. Absolutely to follow with audio guide
I only gave 3 stars because I stayed hungry during this visit. Indeed, objects and photos give emotion but the sequence of events, taken one after the other, disappointed me a little. I visited the memorial of Peronne on the First World War and I did not find in Caen the height gain to understand the reasons for certain situations or decisions. Some summaries or no side were missing that would have given me to see the picture in its entirety. In particular, I found the Pacific war sections too succinct. The landing room is only a list of dates and, as for the rest, this lacks explanation. For example, we see a gallen station, it is said that it is easy to manufacture itself. But what a gallen post is never explained. Finally, we went to see the "Film 360° immersive": “Europe, our history”. I found this way of projecting images everywhere chaotically very uncomfortable. We must constantly turn to see everywhere if we really want to see everything and as for the rest, there is only an accumulation of images illustrating events but without any explanation. In addition, it would perhaps be interesting to revisit the subject a little and because even if this is Europe we are talking about, it is not isolated from the rest of the world and in this film, it seems that if...
Visit to the Caen Memorial Museum with entry to the temporary exhibition at the dawn of the American century from 1933 to 1844 Interesting subject until January. 2025 beautiful objects collected to understand the history of this new world country Allow one day to do the complete visit of both with a lunch break
We started with the 360° in Arromanches then the Caen memorial. Magnificent immersions in the history of the Second World War and particularly the landings. A great review of the school program before the college certificate!
Average for a family visit with a child aged 10 and 13. Not necessarily a must for us. Lots of groups in large numbers, even first thing in the morning.
Superb and very informative panoramic cinema, the staff is very professional more city tour Arromanches
L histoire et bien raconter moi j aurai aimer qu'il soit plus long car on plonge très vite dans l histoire et on veut savoir encore plus Bravo on a adorer
If you have already seen information and other films about WWII, this is no added value. The town is small and you can see everything in half a day.
Perfect museum to understand all of the Second World War, allow at least 3 hours with a good pace (you have to read a lot) difficult to go with children under 10 years old (long and sometimes hard to get through)
Prachtige ervaring, mooi in beeld gebracht. We zagen ook gezinnen met peuters/kleuters, dat zou ik toch niet aanraden.
A place to meditate, wonder and discover the history of one of the most painful moments in human history. Keep the memory alive so as not to repeat the horrors of the past. Excellent very didactic display
