We booked an English-speaking tour of Mont Saint-Michel and paid $120 for two people. Unfortunately, 7 out of 9 participants spoke French, so most of the tour was conducted in French and the English explanations were much shorter. The guide did her best to accommodate everyone, and apart from the language issue, everything was fine. I wanted to give 2 stars, but we chose 3 to acknowledge the guide’s efforts, as it wasn’t her fault. However, we hope other travelers know this can happen even when booking an English-language tour.

We looked forward to our tour of Mont Saint Michel. We got a text from Jacky the evening before our outing advising that the weather was going to be bad in the morning and would we like to reschedule for 2 pm. We replied yes. And Jacky never showed up, or contacted us again. We had to buy tickets (which we had already purchased) and go on our own. We want our money back.
It was advertised as an English tour, but our group was half French and half English so our tour guide had to switch radio channels and repeat everything. It made the tour drag out a bit, and she would repeat herself. The tour took 2 hours to get up the island to the abbey, and the tour guide doesn’t go into the abbey with you. The guide was nice but again it was an ok tour because of the split languages. The radios were also not the best, a lot of static throughout. If I did this again, I would do a tour of the abbey not the island.
Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Mont St. Michel. He was also very personable & enjoyable to spend time with.
Our tour guide was really good, in much of the tour he avoided the very crowded streets that are overflowing with tourists and he had a great deal of knowledge about the history of this magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site
Honere was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. His humour was refreshing. We learned about the natural landscape as well as the history of Mont Saint Michel. Well worth it .
The guide Honore was great, kind, informative and entertaining. The tour is definitely worth the price to understand everything about Mont St Michel.
Honore was a wonderful tour guide. There was so much information about Mont Saint-Michel. So glad we went!
Stephanie is a very knowledgeable and experienced guide. She informed us of the history of Mont Saint-Michel very comprehensively whilst answering questions and keeping the group together. Her knowledge allowed us to enter via a smaller, lesser know entrance so we could avoid the crowds for as long as possible. An excellent 2 hours plus for.my wife and I.
Unique. The guide was knowledable and also had a deep knowledge of the history of the Mount as well as France in general. The guide was also well traveled which allowed him to relate on various levels. Affable and gregarious, Honere was a great guide.
Great tour that provided a nice overview of Mt. Sain Michel history and progression through the years. Our guide, Alice, was super well informed and added a bit of humor wherever possible that really made for a nice tour.
Honore was an excellent guide. His knowledge and delivery were spot on. We use guides on most of our stops. He was one of the best
Very easy to find Honore. We got a shortcut to get the shuttle and generally were largely able to avoid the massive crowds on this tour. Interesting and engaging. A good way to do Mont Saint Michele. Honor was really funny and enjoyable to be with.
Alice was great! Was a very hot day and she found shady places for us to wind around to discuss the history. My husband is also battling cancer and he wanted me to go into the Abby, but he could not make the full journey so the guide at the end of the tour sat with him and showed pictures of what the Abby looked like while I went through quickly. Above and beyond for sure! I can’t imagine not having a tour so you understand the history of The Mont!
Our tour guide Honore' was outstanding!!!! He was so knowledgeable, engaging, and funny. He was an absolute pleasure to have as a tour guide!
Honoré was a wonderful guide! He gave us lots of history and moved us around to multiple areas of Mont St. Michel. He had a great sense of humor and his assistant Julie was positive and helpful, as well. We had a great day learning about the history, taking in all the views, and climbing lots of stairs!
Our guide Honore was very knowledgeable & friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed all the information he gave us. Highly recommend him
Worth the extra cost to get the historic information
Wonderful guide! Very engaged and knowledgeable!! The beauty it has is wonderful! We got the tour with tickets to Abby and it was worth it! Didn’t have any wait.
Stephanie was an outstanding guide. Not only was she incredibly knowledgeable about Mont Saint-Michel, but she also carefully designed the two-hour tour to give us the best possible experience. I don’t want to say too much and spoil it—you should discover it for yourself! Stephanie is a fascinating person, and following her through the village was both enjoyable and engaging. The two hours flew by, and we came away with a much deeper appreciation of this remarkable place. Highly recommended!
Our guide with UTG through Viator was excellent. He was very friendly, and knowledgeable about Mont Saint Michel. He kept the tour moving and kept everyone engaged. And it was very nice going a different route than all the tourist were to avoid the crowds.
It was really in depth and a good time, we have to explore around saint michelle. I would say the additional purchase of the abbey, isn't really needed - unless you're a history buff. You do get additional views (great for photos), but the tour guide was amazing itself.
Great tour. Honore was great. Informative and interesting.
Our tour guide was very patient and made sure we met with him, in spite of our misdirection. He had the patience of a Saint!
Stephanie was very informative and great at improvising. There was some kind of emergency that required a helicopter, but she was able to reroute us easily and pivot when needed. It was rainy and windy too, but still lovely.
Our guide met us just outside the entry doors of the Office de Tourisme, in Beauvoir. Right near the huge parking area. After our hellos, he took us to a bus that ends right near the entrance. We walked all around the streets. Even one that was an inspiration for Diagon Alley! He explained much of the history, including how hard it was to build. Building materials had to be brought in only at high tide and best during the spring Tides with a full moon or new moon. So it was a very long and arduous process to build this beautiful place. Highly highly recommend! Get the group tour with Abbey entry tickets for 35 Euros. That will do you just fine!
Alice our guide was superb. We were escorted to the Mont on the bus and commenced the guided tour via the back door ! Avoiding the masses. Alice was articulate and fluent in English and gave us a lot of detail and background on the history and development of the site. Alice gave us additional advice for the "freetime" we had after the guided tour which was invaluable. The cost of the tour with the inclusion of access to the Abbey was well worth it.
We had many stairs to climb up and down, so be prepared for walking a lot. Make sure you have comfortable shoes.
Without going into to many details , our tour guide was overloading too much information and detail on the history of st michel. If we did not pay attention he would get annoyed , I have used Viator for many years, this was the worse experience I have had. The tour could have been much more pleasant with another guide.
Our guide Alice was exceptional. Had lots of facinating stories and was great fun
Of course, there was lots of walking. However, if you have trouble with upward slopes, be forewarned, there is A LOT in this tour. We did get to see everything, and then had time to visit the village. Very enjoyable
A lot of walking! Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk up and down lots of stairs and steep inclines. Our guide, Honoré, was great!
It was exactly what it was promised - a walk on the ocean bottom and experiencing quick sands. The guide was professional and fun, he explained our group the 2 ways to get out of the quick sands and we had several chances to try. I worried that I would freeze in shorts and being bare feet )) But no! It was not cold at all, and while escaping the sands I was even hot! ))
Lovely morning stroll through Mont Saint Michel to the abbey! Stephanie, our guide, was a wealth of knowledge and really brought us to places off the beaten path to experience Mont Saint Michel as it was originally intended - away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds. Highly recommend!
My family and I were disappointed. We expected to walk across the bridge since it was a walking tour but the guide had us take the tram. We also were bored as our guide seemed to not be a very vibrant story teller and she didn’t walk and talk, she’d drop every 10 feet or so to tell another long boring story. We also expected that the tour would include discussion and tour inside the abbey and were very disappointed to learn she would just leave us outside the abbey and end the tour there. I feel this tour wasn’t representative of what it advertised.
It is worth the money to get to understand the history and culture of the area to help the trip be more meaningful.
Guide super nice and explain everything very well. Only a recommandation for the organization : in case of last minute requests, ensure a prompt feedback before the tour start
This was a wonderful experience! Our kids loved it! We would recommend warm clothes as near the ocean can be cold.
Only 50% of the tour were in English so we had to wait 50% of the time. Less than 1 hour of information. Quite expensive . The guide was very friendly and knew a lot. But the agency should have send one group for each language.
I have visited Mont St. Michel several times. On this tour with Alice, i learned so many new things that made the visit even more exciting. She is very knowledgeable and delivers the information in an engaging way. Her English is very good and I would recommend her tour.
If visiting Mont Saint Michel then this short tour with the optional abbey tickets add on is a must! Our guide was an excellent story teller, giving us an overview of the history of the Mont through the ages and the uniqueness of various aspects of the region. Since we were staying on the island for a few nights, this tour was perfect in that it gave us insight into daily life on the island and context of what we were to see in the abbey. Visiting the abbey was awesome, navigating the labyrinth of passages and stairs through the halls up to the ramparts. Note, if you struggle with stairs then this is not for you. We had an incredible time and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Mont.
Stephanie was great explaining the history of Mont Saint Michel! We finished the tour with a self guided walk thru the Abbey.
On a recent trip to Bayeux, Normandy, to explore all the D-Day beaches and displays we did a day trip to the captivating Mont St Michel. We were fortunate to find our guide, Eva Ruttger, of visitnormandybeaches (info@visitnormandybeaches.com). Eva met us promptly in the morning and she drove us in her very comfortable car, our group was 4 adults, for the 1.5 hour drive to the island (excellent driver by the way). If you are in the area I heartily recommend to visit this fascinating site. All during the trip Eva provided interesting background. Then, when at the site, her experience helped us navigate quickly up to and through the town, and the Abbey. Even though it was October there were still large crowds. Her special knowledge really helped us. If you are not aware of Mont St Michel it is a tidal island surrounded by vast expanse of water, and at low tide it is somewhat disconcerting to see people walking across large areas of the flats. We were struck by the incredibly complicated task facing the builders to erect a huge Cathedral and Abbey on such a small parcel, and overcoming intense inclines. The stained glass if marvelous also. I highly recommend Eva and this tour. Eva is charming, articulate, and most enjoyable company.
This tour does not offer good value because we paid for a 2 hour tour, but the guide took both English speakers and French speakers, so half the time was spent doing the tour in French. This is a waste of your clients’ time and not how your groups should be handled.
Great opportunity to visit the village and learn about the history of Mt St Michel. We enjoyed learning about this beautiful place and Stephanie our tour guide had vast knowledge.
Fabulous guide who made the whole experience fun and enjoyable. Magnificent place and not to missed when visiting.
Honare was our tour guide. He was very informative. Really knew his history and made it fun. We enjoyed it thoroughly. Would highly recommend
Excellent guide who was very passionate and very knowledgeable. Just the right length and pace for a challenging walk.
The tourist info center is at the parking lot bus stop. We did not see the sign on the building as it is small and close to the ground. We waited for a bus and rode all the way to the Mont, and then realized our mistake. Our guide called me quickly but we couldn't receive the call for some reason. I called her back and we were able to reconnect quickly but perhaps we should not have arrived so early! Our guide Alice was excellent. Warning to all visitors - be prepare to walk a lot and there are many many steps, some with no railings. It is magnificent so hopefully it will not be too hard for you.
Our guide Honoré was fantastic! He lead us away from the crowds to communicate the fascinating history associated with all aspects of the island. He was fun, personably and keen to share. He had a great sense of fun and made our day very memorable.
