Philip was amazing and made the whole tour an experience with his knowledge and made was very interactive by asking questions. You will not be disappointed if he is your guide.

Itinerary
Your Gentleman Sider (guide/driver) will meet you with his vintage sidecar at the pickup location of your choice, or at the parking lot of the Bayeux Battle of Normandy Museum, or at the Bayeux bus station. He will help you gear up with helmets, gloves, and retro goggles before getting you comfortably settled in the sidecar. There will, of course, be stops along the way to take breaks and capture photos.
INCLUDED IN OPTIONS: 2-HOUR BRITISH SECTOR – HALF DAY – FULL DAY Your driver will take you to Arromanches-les-Bains. It was on this beach that, during the Battle of Normandy, immediately after D-Day on June 6th, 1944, the Allies established Mulberry B, a temporary artificial harbor designed to allow the landing of heavy equipment without having to wait for the capture of deep-water ports such as Le Havre or Cherbourg (Cherbourg-en-Cotentin since 2016). Although located in the center of the Gold Beach landing zone, Arromanches was spared the worst of the fighting on D-Day. To enable the rapid installation and proper functioning of the harbor, it was essential not to damage the beach and to preserve the surrounding communication routes. British troops therefore landed farther east, between Asnelles and Ver-sur-Mer, and liberated Arromanches by land on the evening of June 6th. The harbor was put into service on June 14th.
INCLUDED IN OPTIONS 2: HOUR BRITISH SECTOR – HALF DAY – FULL DAY The Longues-sur-Mer battery is one of the artillery batteries of the Atlantic Wall, located in the coastal commune of Longues-sur-Mer in the Calvados region. The site consisted of four long-range 150 mm naval guns, each protected by a reinforced concrete casemate, along with various installations used to operate and defend them. Situated in the Allied Normandy landing zone, between Omaha Beach and Gold Beach, the battery was subjected to intense aerial and naval bombardments, preventing it from fully engaging on D-Day. It was captured the following day by British troops. Listed as a Historic Monument, the battery is remarkably well preserved. The site is now developed for visitors and has become a popular stop during tours of the D-Day landing sites.
INCLUDED IN OPTIONS: 2-HOUR AMERICAN SECTOR – HALF DAY – FULL DAY Liberated on June 8th, 1944 by the 47th Royal Marines Commando during Operation Overlord, Port-en-Bessin became, as early as June 16th, the central hub of a pipeline network of approximately 120 km designed to supply Allied armies with fuel. By the end of August 1944, this system was expanded through Operation PLUTO, which involved laying underwater pipelines between the Isle of Wight and Querqueville near Cherbourg.
INCLUDED IN OPTIONS: 2-HOUR AMERICAN SECTOR – HALF DAY – FULL DAY Omaha Beach remains one of the most iconic D-Day landing sites, holding undeniable historical significance. Here, you will stand on the very sands where thousands of American soldiers bravely landed amid intense gunfire and artillery bombardment. Your guide will share moving accounts of the challenges the soldiers faced during this fierce battle. As you walk along the beach, take a moment to pay tribute at the memorials and reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought here.
INCLUDED IN OPTIONS: 2-HOUR AMERICAN SECTOR – HALF DAY – FULL DAY The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, perched on a cliff overlooking Omaha Beach, offers a poignant and deeply moving tribute to the fallen soldiers. As you walk among the rows of white marble crosses and Stars of David, you will be filled with a profound sense of gratitude and respect for those who sacrificed their lives for freedom. Your guide will share stories about some of the individuals laid to rest here and provide meaningful insight into the historical impact of their sacrifice. *During the low season, the cemetery closes early. Any tour starting at 4:00 PM will not be able to include the cemetery visit.* *Please note that starting in 2026, the visit to the Omaha Cemetery cannot be guaranteed and will be replaced by the visit of WN60.*
ONLY FOR THE 6-HOUR OPTION Pointe du Hoc became a crucial strategic battleground during the Allied landings in Normandy on June 6th, 1944. Located between Utah Beach to the west and Omaha Beach to the east, this promontory was fiercely fortified by the Germans (WN 751). Allied aerial reconnaissance revealed the presence of powerful long-range artillery pieces threatening both neighboring beaches. Quickly neutralizing these guns was considered essential to ensure the success of the landings. Explore this historic site with fascination, where courage and strategy played a decisive role in the path to liberation.

My family LOVED this tour/ experience! It was so much fun to ride in the Retro Tour Sidecars. We were picked up from our hotel with our two guides on the sidecars! They provided with helmets and gloves and then we hopped on for a great ride to the British Beaches. Driving through the area on these is different than being in a car or van. Plus our guides Phillip and Thomas were so knowledgeable! My 87 year old father loved all of their knowledge and it was really worth seeing the British Beaches in addition to Omaha and Utah (American Beaches). The photos we have on the sidecars on the beaches might be my favorite from the entire trip! If you're going to Normandy you must plan a sidecar tour with Retro Tour Normandy and specifically with Phillip and Thomas.
What an amazing experience! My mom and I decided to try this unique way to see the Normandy beaches in memory of my uncle - who was a WWII historian and rode a motorcycle his entire life - and my grandfather who was a WWII veteran. When Remi pulled up in a sidecar named Charles - both my grandfather and my uncle's name - we knew we DEFINITELY made the right decision! My Pop was originally assigned to an infantry division, but he was moved to the motor pool. His original unit was part of the D-Day invasion, and sadly, most didn't return. We thought this would be a great way to honor both of my family members, and we were NOT disappointed! Remi was amazing! He was personable, very knowledgeable, and patient with us. Unfortunately, the weather was not good at the start, but Remi had rain gear for us that kept us dry. The weather cleared up about halfway into the tour, so that was great. I rode on the back, and my mom rode in the sidecar. We did go faster than we expected (I guess we thought we would be tootling around like in a golf cart, but NOPE!), and it was so much fun! I saw a review that said if you sit behind the driver to hold on tight, and they are correct, but we felt completely safe! Remi was a great guide and took care of us ladies! We really enjoyed learning about the strategy at the beaches, and felt moved at the cemetery. We were able to stop at a place and buy some souvenirs as well. Highly recommend this tour and Remi as your guide!
This was a very unique and enjoyable experience. If you ride a motorcycle, do not hesitate to become a sidecar passenger on this immersive tour of the D-Day invasion… Be prepared to be amazed. The side car seat was way more comfortable than the seat on the train from Paris to Bayeau! Remi, my guide, was very knowledgeable and personable. He truly made the trip and experience to remember. The lunch stop was also an experience in and of itself whatever you do try the croissant burger!
Rain or shine plus includes driver. The person behind the driver must be prepared to hold on tight..
Phillippe, Thomas and John were delightful, knowledgeable and attentive. Our group of five included our 82-year-old parents who felt safe and had so much fun. We all voted for this tour as our favourite excursion during our 10-day visit to Normandy. Highly recommend this novel ride through beautiful Normandy road and villages. Diane
We did this tour on a rainy September day. Rain gear and gloves were provided. Had an absolutely amazing and exciting experience. Extremely fun and knowledgeable guide/driver. John and Remy (spelling?). This deserves 10 stars out of 5!!!! Couldn’t be better.
The best way to tour Normandy!! Remy was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Had a wonderful time!
We had a blast. We are seniors so I was worried we would not be comfortable, but we loved it. Philippe was an excellent tour guide and extremely knowledgeable about D Day invasion. Highly recommend this tour
This was our first time in France and all of the reviews for this tour were amazing so we decided to do it. John, our pilot, did not disappoint. He was fun, knowledgeable, and kind. I could not recommend this tour anymore. We would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you John for a very memorable time in Normandy! What a way to travel and take in history at the same time.
What a great experience. Especially because we were late to ride due to our own mistake in booking. The three gentleman were incredibly knowledgeable, very kind and a lot of fun to spend a few hours with. Recommend making sure you eat a snack beforehand. We loved their cheeky banter!
Great experience. Outside of the sites visited and the information shared, John and Philip were awesome drivers and guides. They were knowledgeable, helpful, accommodating and funny. I would recommend to anyone coming to Normandy. Only did the 3.5 hr due to time restrictions, but would suggest the full 6 hr.
Superfun experience and a great guide This was much more than a historylesson
We had the best guide! Remi was friendly, knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. We were treated to so many facts and stories about that day. We were taken places that, left on our own, we would not have seen. Or known the stories attached to them. We could not have been in better hands. If you’re considering this type of tour, hit the book tickets button. You won’t be disappointed.
It was loads of fun and we had really good weather for this ride. Our driver, Remi, was very informative and had a good sense of humor. He had a good perspective on historical events. We toured the British sector, Gold beach, which we hadn’t seen yet and it’s always an eye-opener to see these things in person. My only regret is that we took the two hour tour and not the four hour tour. It seemed to end too quickly.
Remmy & Philip were very friendly & knowledgeable. Travel by sidecar was certainly unique and exhilarating.
This was so much fun! John was a great tour guide. He is very funny and very knowledgeable of the war and the area. This is so much better than a bus tour exciting ride through the countryside. We toured Omaha Beach. Very thankful to see where our brave men fought and died to help our fellow man.
It was great traveling around on the motorcycle and side car. Visiting the Normandy breaches was a bucket list item.
I did this tour for 3 ½ hours with my son and was expecting a simple tour however it exceeded my expectations massively. Our guide provided us with some amazing history and stories of the places that we visited and was incredibly kind. Also he answered all of our questions! The motorbike and sidecar looks amazing and speeding along country roads in it is so much fun! So I would highly recommend this tour to anybody visting Normandy!
If you do nothing else this will be all you need. I cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful experience we had as a family of four. We had Phillipe and Remy as our guides. They were both so knowledgeable and passionate about the history and their patriotism. We were picked up at our hotel and the drive through country roads was incredibly beautiful. It was the highlight of our trip to France and worth every single penny. Book it now!
Great experience and very comfortable ride. John our tour guide was phenomenal. Checked off a bucket list with this tour. 5 stars!!
What an educational and memorable experience. John and Philippe took the 4 of us on a journey through the D-Day sites and provided interesting stories and being there brought history to life. The motorcycle sidecars were a fun way to traverse the area on a beautiful summer day.
Remy and Philip were wonderful drivers and history teachers. The teenagers loved their first time on a motorcycle.
Met our drivers Remy and John right on time in Arromanches. Super super friendly and super knowledgeable. The kids and I totally loved the experience of safely riding in the open and visiting the historical sites of D Day in a private setting. Totally recommend it. We had a blast.
Such an amazing day! 🏍️🇫🇷🇬🇧 Wow, what a great way to see the D-Day landing beaches. Our guide, John, was awesome — funny, friendly, and so knowledgeable. He really brought the history to life with great stories and facts, while keeping everything fun and easygoing. Riding on 'Monty' made it feel even more special and quite nostalgic and gave us a totally different perspective of the area. John was a fantastic guide and is really passionate about sharing the history of such a historical event. An unforgettable experience for me and my daughter from start to finish. Honestly, couldn’t recommend this tour highly enough. Thank you for the memories ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Had a great day with Remy, he was full of information and fun facts I thought I knew a lot about the d-day invasion but he taught us so much more Traveling down the back roads by motorcycle was excilerating and we caught the eye of many other tourists!
Be prepared to learn new things. Our driver, John, was extremely knowledgeable- he connected you to history and helped us understand the risks and challenges that were involved. Also, be prepared for an exciting ride - anticipate enjoying the tranquillity of the French countryside on your way to the somberness of the beaches.
This tour is an absolute MUST DO!!!! We had a simply AMAZING time!!! We were a private group of four women all over 50 years old and usually plan and do our day trips on our own. We decided to book the 6 hour sidecar tour simply for the uniqueness of the tour and we are so glad that we did. We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel. Our tour guides, Phillip and John were very knowledgeable. More importantly though, they asked questions and listened which allowed them to gear the tour toward what we wanted, all the while giving us such in depth information that we have a better understanding of the how D-Day played out, why it occurred the way it did, and how it set up what was to come. There is no way that we could have learned all of that by touring Normandy on our own. Our tour guides were kind and funny (hilarious in fact) and we enjoyed our day so much that when discussing our trip to France, all four of us agreed that it was the highlight of our trip. Not only did we have an amazing day that none of us wanted to see end, but they gave us information that helped us to tailor the rest of our time in the area. While we were worried about the cost, it was worth four times as much and I am so glad that we decided to take the tour. We could not have had a more enjoyable day and could not be more grateful to Phillip and John for making it so. I highly recommend this tour to anyone that wants an in depth, personalized tour of the area and we will definitely do this tour again when we return to the area.
It was a fun, exhilarating, safe, and historical way to see Normandy for our 82 yo mother and 10 yo daughter.
Really great 2 hour tour for 3 of us (husband and 21 year old son) around Arromanches and Longues-sur-Mer with drivers/guides Phillipe and Remy on/in their retro sidecars. Incredibly informative guiding, with very good detail and would highly recommend. A wonderful experience all round and super fun too!
Do not pass up this tour! John and Phillip are great historians, story tellers and engaging. We really enjoyed our tour, I am ready to go again and we just finished getting off the motorcycles
We had an excellent guide who was very knowledgeable and was very entertaining. The sidecar was terrific.
It is beyond fun and is a wonderful learning experience. Our guide John was a wealth of information and used our time together efficiently. We received a university-level tutorial on D-Day and, with his help, could envision the challenges facing the brave soldiers as they stormed the beaches. We highly recommend this experience!
Remy was amazing guide! The stories made the tour amazing and love the ride in the sidecar. Definitely a experience that we will not forget!
Remy was knowledgeable and provided detailed descriptions of Gold Beach and German bunkers on the 2 hour British Beach tour. He was very friendly and engaging. He made the whole experience enjoyable and informative. The sidecar motorcycle ride was a unique experience. I would highly recommend this tour for D-Day enthusiasts.
My sons had the best time, the trip being the best part of there holiday, sering places they never find themselves
Remy was our guide, he was excellent. He was prepared with rain gear to keep us dry on the tour during light rain that day. He know every detail about the several sites and made adjustments along the way. I done over 100 tours in 13 countries - Remy gave us the single best tour I have ever been on.
This was a really fun way to see the British sector of the DDay beaches and the Normandy countryside. Our guide John was also very knowledgeable and passionate about WW2 history so I learned a lot and he shared reading recommendations. Would definitely recommend.
Highly recommend this experience even with small children! We did it with 3 kids aged between 5 and 10 and they thoroughly enjoyed it as much as we did. Our guides were super accomodating for the kids and made sure they wearing sunscreen, were hydrated and felt comfortable on the drive. This is the only way you would want to do the D-Day tour. Each stop was accompanied by a detailed explanation and our guides took some lovely family photos (and a selfie 🤳🏽)
We had a fantastic half-day with John! Being a group of 2, we were able to get to/depart from all the sites quicker than any large group. Also had access to a few places the big tour groups could not access. Riding a motorcycle in the countryside was a very neat experience. And John was very knowledgeable, very kind, and let us choose where to go! The perfect trip!!
This tour was informative and relaxing for us. My husband always enjoys learning more about WW2 history. Remy, our guide told him things he did not know about. This tour has been our favorite thing we have done on our trip.
Had a great retro-style tour of British landing beaches. Our guide Remi was great: smart and safe. Goggles, helmet, bomber jacket, wind in the hair.
My friend and I did the 3 hour tour with John who was very knowledgeable and funny and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience with him. He took us to some off the beaten path spots (WN 60) as well as Longues-sur-Mer Battery, Royal Marine commando monument, Omaha beach, and the American cemetery. Our only regret was not doing the 6 hr tour instead !! My friend was the one interested in WW2 facts and he got exactly what he was hoping for - in depth descriptions and facts about D-Day. If you just want a tour of the sights and to wander around, this is not the tour for you. It was very personal and focused. If there are two of you and one person is less interested in all the nitty-gritty facts, it works out pretty well as you can wander while the other person gets the in-depth history lesson. Also, riding on the back of the bike was a blast! Absolutely 20/10 would do this again. Thanks John!!
Remi was an INCREDIBLE tour guide and he made our experience so amazing! Riding in the motorcycle was awesome and I wish we would have booked a longer tour with him! Highly recommend and it is a tour that we will never forget! ♥️
Remy and John were amazing guides. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would! We had the best day ever riding on the bikes with them and learning all of the history. It rained on us halfway through the trip, but somehow that just made the adventure even more enjoyable. I cannot say enough good things about this tour or about John and Remy. If you are visiting Normandy, this is MUST DO!
This was unforgettable!! The guides (Remi & John) were so friendly and knowledgeable. Riding on the bike was the best way to see everything!
This tour was great! The guides were knowledgeable, friendly and fun. They provided rain gear and were helpful with helmets and gloves, etc. My family of five saw a lot of the D-Day sights, the beautiful countryside of the area and learned a lot about the operation. I highly recommend!
This was such an amazing way to see some of the Normandy sites! Rémi and Monty were excellent guides and provided a wealth of information at each stop! They were very personable and a lot of fun!! We loved the entire experience!!
My husband and I had an amazing 3.5 hours with our guide Remy, exploring the D-day landing sites from our base in Bayeux. Remy was so knowledgable and keen to impart that knowledge with a clear passion and love for the history! Riding on the bike and sidecar added to the thrill of the day and Remy was a safe and competent driver. We had the best time and would highly recommend it to others!
What a fun adventure - totally out of the norm, but really awesome. The bikes were great and the drivers were fun and informative.
