If you’ve ever wanted to pay top dollar to sleep inside a damp sponge frozen in 1985, the Novotel Caen Côte de Nacre is waiting for you. Stepping into the room is a full sensory journey. The lack of ventilation creates a thick, perpetually damp microclimate, while the popcorn-textured walls and ceilings double as a fantastic cheese grater. The mattresses are so aggressively soft they collapse on impact... I woke up with back pain severe enough to warrant an orthopedic consult. As for my Accor loyalty status? It was recognized with the exact same enthusiasm you’d get at an unmanned toll booth. To top off the experience, they charge a wildly overpriced €20 for breakfast, presumably to cover the cost of lukewarm croissants served in a room that matches the vintage decay of your quarters. On the bright side, the parking is free and it sits right next to the highway, making it exceptionally convenient for a speedy escape.

Amazing friendly staff at reception, housekeeping and restaurant who helped us with all aspects of our stay. Love that there are free towels for the pool and fizzy or still water on tap to take to your room. Rooms are well laid out and well equipped with a fan. We enjoyed the food and the restaurant staff were an extremely helpful team….the best we found on our trip this year. The location is a bit out of the way but the tram was fun to ride in to town and the lovely extras of this hotel make up for it compared with more budget places with more a central location. Very good value for the price we paid for a family of four including breakfast as well. Would recommend.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good comfortable rooms and beds. Love the water tap/glassware and kids are in the reception area. Good small pool too - although didn’t use it. Breakfast was fantastic- lots of gluten free options and well labelled.
I had a good time at Novotel. Needed a place with ac because of the heatwave, they also have a small pool. I take a couple points off for saying they have room service (they didn't have room service for any time other than breakfast) and minibar (empty fridge). The location is in Caen, but doesn't have a view of anything. It was a bit pricey too. But the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
We had a very disappointing stay at this hotel. We deliberately drove 2.5 hours from Paris to avoid the heat wave, arriving as a family of four with two babies. However, nowhere during the booking process was it made clear that the hotel has no air conditioning. The room was unbearably hot, and we were all sweating, struggling to breathe, and feeling nauseous after the journey. The receptionist barely acknowledged our situation and immediately suggested we take towels to go to the pool, despite clearly seeing that we had just arrived exhausted with two babies. When I asked if there was at least a fan available since there was no air conditioning, I was told they couldn’t find one. To make matters worse, the elevator is located a long way from the reception, and our room was at the very end of the corridor. I had to carry all of our luggage for a family of four, including everything needed for two babies, all the way down the corridor just to reach the elevator, and then continue to our room. The room location was extremely inconvenient for a family traveling with young children. We had also requested a baby cot in advance, but instead of having it set up in our room, it was simply left at the end of the corridor, with the receptionist telling us, “It’s yours.” The overall cleanliness and maintenance were also disappointing. A cleaning vacuum cleaner was left outside our room, and there was vomit on the floor in front of the elevator that remained uncleaned. What disappointed us most was not only the lack of air conditioning but also the complete lack of professionalism, organization, and empathy from the staff. During a heat wave, especially when welcoming families with young children, basic comfort and attentive service should be a priority. Unfortunately, this hotel failed on both counts. We cannot recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.
