Your driver-guide will collect you from your Nice hotel and begin with a trip up to two of the city's finest viewpoints: Castle Hill and Mont Boron, where the full sweep of the Baie des Anges unfolds below you, and the Riviera stretches away toward the Italian border in one direction and the hills behind Nice in the other. It's a moment that sets the scene perfectly for the journey ahead, and your guide will use it to give you a feel for the geography and history of this extraordinary stretch of coastline before you head out to explore it.
From there, the road leads east along the Corniches, the magnificent trio of coastal roads that provide a picture-perfect Côte d’Azur experience. The route takes in some of the Riviera's most celebrated views, with stops to photograph the shimmering waters of Villefranche Bay, one of the deepest natural harbours in the Mediterranean, and the pine-fringed peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, for decades one of the most exclusive addresses in Europe.
The main stop on the way to Monaco is Èze, a striking medieval village perched on a rocky hilltop with narrow cobblestone streets and ancient stone houses. There will be time to wander at your own pace, to duck into the artisan boutiques, admire the Romanesque chapel, or simply soak in the atmosphere of a place that has changed remarkably little over the centuries. The visit also includes a guided tour of the celebrated Fragonard perfume factory, where the centuries-old craft of French perfume-making is brought to life. From the sourcing of raw ingredients to the extraordinary skill of the master perfumer, it gives an insight into one of France's most revered artisan traditions, as well as an opportunity to take a little of that tradition home with you thanks to an optional mini perfume-making workshop.
Then it's on to Monaco, the second smallest country in the world and undoubtedly one of the most glamorous. Your guide will offer context and orientation as you arrive, but the afternoon is yours to spend as you choose. Monte Carlo, the district that has become synonymous with the principality's glittering reputation, is the natural focal point, whether you want to try your luck at the legendary Casino de Monte-Carlo, whose gilded Belle Époque interiors are worth seeing whether you gamble or not, linger over a coffee at the Café de Paris and watch the procession of extraordinary cars and extraordinary people, browse the elegant boutiques that line the surrounding streets, or simply wander down to the harbour to take in the spectacle of the superyachts that congregate there. For those who want to go deeper into what Monaco has to offer.
Lunch is at your own leisure and expense, and your guide will be delighted to point you toward the best options for your taste and appetite, whether that means a relaxed terrace overlooking the harbour or something a little more tucked away. You can also visit the famous Exotic Garden in Èze or the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. Whilst tickets are not included, your guide can assist with making these arrangements as well.
As the afternoon draws to a close, your driver-guide will return you to your Nice hotel or any other destination of your choosing, having revealed the French Riviera at its finest, in the best possible company.
